Cropping the top of photos off

Hi,
Lightroom is cropping the top of my photos off. I'm new at this still and I don't know how to fix it. The photo looks fine in Preview, so I'm at a loss. What did I do, and how can I fix this?

The options screen(box) opens so big the top is cut off and cannot access anything but the general screen?
I have my resolution set to native 1600x900 100%. Decreasing page (home page) size does not help.
I am running Windows7 on NEW COMPUTER.

It does it in safe mode as well. It does it intermittently so I can't trace it to an extension.

  • I'm editing a wedding that I shot for a family member but when I play it in the viewing  window the top of it is cropped off but I can see the whole image in the project  strip. will the whole image transfer  when I make a dvd or will it crop the top ?

I'm editing a wedding that I shot for a family member, But when I play it the top of the image is cropped off in the veiwing window but it shows the whole image in the project strip. When I make a DVD with it transfer the whole image or will it be the chopped off image and how do I make sure it is the whole image ?

What version of iMovie are you using?
    For 9.09..
If the image is not 720p, you might have to crop it to have freehand control over which bit gets cut off.
    How to crop it...
In the project window hover your cursor over a section of the clip in the bottom right corner as seen below:
Click on the cog and open up Cropping,Ken Burns and Rotation.
Click on Crop and drag and set to where you want it to be cropped, then click Done. (Because mine isn't 720p, iMovie automatically makes it so I cannot include the black border. If you do not mind this click Allow Black.)
Glad if this helped! Please rate up.

  • Crop the top of a *.swf or *.fla

i want to crop a *.fla file so that the top margin is reduced
instead of the bottom. Is this possible?

No actual crop in flash. You need to reposition all you
    content manually using the
EDIT MULTIPLE FRAME option once you adjust the stage size.
I believe there is some kind of JSFL that makes it easier,
but there is no such option
    in flash itself.

  • I found an old iPod classic of mine.  It's not synced to my new MacBook Pro.  How can I get the music and photos off of it and on to my new computer?  When I plug it in to my new computer it wants to erase what is on it and transfer from my new computer.

I found an old iPod classic of mine that is synced to a computer that is long gone.  I want to get the music and photos from this old iPod onto my new computer.  Every time I hook the iPod up to my new computer it wants to delete what is on the iPod and replace with the contents of the iTunes that is currently on the new computer.  I don't want to do that.  I want to keep what is on the old iPod and transfer it to iTunes.  Any help?  Thanks!

I am having a recurring proble with my screen suddenly enalrging to the point where it is unusable. The power button is also not working.  When I try to shut off the phone to restart it, I cannot swipe across the top to power off vbecause the screen is so big and unresponsive.  Can someone help me with this problem?

Double tap the screen with three fingers to switch off zoom, then go to setting and disable it to make sure you don't switch it on again by accident.

  • Panorama groups are moving above the top of the page

When I go into my panorama some of the groups migrate up the space so that the tops are cut off by the top of the window. It goes away if I adjust the size of any window, and it doesn't always happen. However, it is happening with the 4RC and it happened with some of the Betas as well.

  • TS3989 Photos are ok in aperture and iphoto but in photostream on ipad and iphone the top of all portrait photos is chopped off. I tried switching photostream off and on but got the same. Only happened with photos added today, all past photos are fine

I have never had any problems before but all portrait photos added today have the top chopped off. For example , people's heads are missing or roofs or buildings are chopped off. Photos are fine on the camera and on my mac in iphoto and aperture. Switched off photostream on my ipad...all photos were deleted. Switched photostream back on and all photos uploaded again and portrait photos are cropped again

It sounds like while trying to import the photos with insufficient disk space those image files were damaged and not copied fully.  Now that you have sufficient space (a minimum of 10 GB is recommended) the latest imports are good.
What do you get if you export one of the problem photos out of iPhoto as Kind=Original and try to open it with Preview.  If it appears the same then there's nothing you can to do recover them.

  • My photos are OK in the organizer, but the portrait photos are cut off from the top or bottom when u

My photos are OK in the Organizer, but the portrait photos are cut off at the top or bottom when used in a slide show.  I have checked the "Crop to Fit" portrait selection but it makes no difference.  I have Version 9 of Elements.

    Hi,
I suggest that you try unchecking both of the crop options - landscape & portrait.
To re-create your situation, I had to check the crop for landscape pictures option.
I prefer to have control over any cropping so I tend to crop each image first before creating the slide show.

  • Using the crop tool in Lightroom 5 I can only move and crop my photos from the top. Am I doing something wrong?

I am new to Lightroom 5 and find I cannot crop my photos as easily as I did in iPhoto. I would like to be able to drag them if I choose a custom size or crop them from the bottom as well as from the top but my two sided arrow disappears when I work at the bottom of the photo. Am I doing something wrong?

I would suggest you trash the prefs.
    Quit Lightroom
Launch Finder and find the user Library by clicking the Go menu whilst holding down the Optn (alt) key (n.b. the library is hidden until you press the optn key) and inside the Library folder select the preferences folder. Then trash the following file:
    com.adobe.Lightroom5.plist
    Then re-launch Lightroom
It’s then worth clearing each cache. Go to the top menu bar:
Lightroom >> Preferences >> File Handling (tab)
Click the Purge Cache button under Camera Raw Cache Settings; then click the Purge Cache button under Video Cache Settings. Finally click OK.

  • I can not move the screen on Elements 11 on a MAC.  The top part of the application is cut off and I can't see the top row of photos.  I can attach a photo but I am not sure how to do that.   have OS 10.9

See the attached photo.  I have a photo open but I cannot see the top part of the application.  It will not let me scroll up.  I cannot move the application.  When I click on F3 I can see the full screen and can see the photo but as soon as I click anywhere it goes back to the cup off screen.

That's the organizer? Sorry, but the Grab menu is in front in your screenshot.
If so, go to your username>library>Application Support>Adobe/>Elements Organizer/11.0>organizer and delete status.dat.
BTW, just for future reference, you don't need to bother with Grab for general screenshots. Cmd+shift+3 captures the whole screen, cmd+shift+4 and drag to capture part of it. Here are some other shortcuts (article is for 10.8 but they're the same in 10.9)

  • When using the crop button in my photos, my ipod shuts off on me. What's going on?

I wnated to crop one of my photos. When I go to select the tool, my screen flashes white then it shuts off completely. Can someone please tell me what's going on and how to fix it?

I do not want to delete these photos. I cannot sync these photos to my laptop either because I am a student borrowing the laptop for the school year.

  • When printing from Iphoto the photo is cropped at the top

When printing from Iphoto, the image is not the same size as in Iphoto.  The top of the photo is always lost.
If I copy the image to preview and thence to Word the photo prints in full.....  Why?

Because you are printing a different size than the image - you give no details so one can only provide generalities
If you have an image that is 4:3 in dimensions and print it as an 8x10 image something has to give - it is the top or side of the image
Crop to the dimensions of the print - and you will lose nothing

  • Photosmart c4480 cutting off top of photos

hi, i bought this printer today and thought i would give it a test run on photos from a memory card on 6x4 paper but it keeps cutting the top of the photo off a little bit
am i doing something wrong? is there a way of stopping this happening?
    thanks mandy

It has to do with how all the camera sensors are made.
You can't change the aspect ratio in the camera.  You need to crop the photo using some sort of photo modification software.  I think all the picture editors have a crop function.  So, the picture is a 4x3 aspect ratio.  You need to cut about 10-12% off the short dimension on the computer.
Of course, the dorky workaround is to always take pictures with about 5% of stuff you don't care about on the top and bottom of the picture.  So, you zoom out a little, and, when you print the picture, it will crop stuff that's okay to crop.  Of course, if the pictures are already taken, that doesn't work.
    Sorry about the frustration!
Let me know how it goes!
