Cropping to View or Cropping to Zoom Level

Just wondering if this is already an option and I just can't find it... I work with very large images, and having a television background, I am always looking for the Wide/Medium/Tight shots - for example, getting three different shots from the originals. When I am zooming in to make corrections or retouch, I find myself saying "Now THAT would make a GREAT image cropped exactly where it is". Instead of dragging out the Crop Tool and risk the image "moving" from the exact zoom level or view I have it at, is there a way to "CROP TO VIEW" or "CROP TO ZOOM LEVEL" with just one click that I am missing, or should this go to the Photoship Wish List? Thanks, all!

How to setup a 'duplicate/mirror view' with a different zoom level?

Hi Photoshop Gurus,
I constantly keep zooming in and out of the same images. It drives me crazy to view it at normal zoom level and zoom back into deep pixels.
Is there a way so that I have a duplicate floating window/view that shows realtime editing of an image at a different zoom level? (Think of it like a display mirroring, but, I am trying to mirror the same document at a normal zoom level).
This is my scenario:
- I usually work with small images/icons.
- I zoom deeply into an image at pixel level ~3000%.
- Change some pixels and do editing
- Zoom back out to 100% to view how it looks normally.
- Repeat and repeat.
Can I always have a 100% zoomed view along side the same document?

The navigator palette is just another document view. Open it, put it where you want, resize it, and you can use it to control (and see) what part of the docuemnt your zoomed in view is showing.

Auto resolution not adapting to zoom level

As the title states, the resolution does not adapt to the zoom level dispite having Auto selected.
I also checked in the advanced composition options and preserve resolution when nested is selected.
This issue happens in every comp and different project files.
I'm running CS5 on Mac OS X 10.6.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Auto Resolution doesn't do what you apparently think it does. Here's a quote taken from AE's Online Help about Auto Resolution:
"Adapts the resolution of the view in the Composition panel to render only the pixels necessary to preview the composition at the current zoom level. For example, if the view is zoomed out to 25%, then the resolution automatically adapts to a value of 1/4—shown as (Quarter)—as if you had manually chosen Quarter. If a panel contains multiple views, the resolution adapts to the view with the highest zoom level. This setting gives the best image quality while also avoiding rendering pixels unnecessary for the current zoom level."
Thus, if you look at your AE comp at something like 800%, you will see the pixels. You're simply looking at the comp as you would with a magnifying glass.
If you are scaling up a layer beyond 100% or if you're animating a camera to see only a very small section of a layer, AE will not automatically add resolution to the layer to make it nice and sharp. It can't. The only exception is when you use text layers, or use vector graphics with the Continuously Rasterize switch turned on.

REQ: Add 'Fit-width' or 'Fit-visible' view mode, in which the zoom level is automatically set based on the width of the _current_ page.

Currently, the default zoom level when viewing a page of a PDF file is automatically calculated based on the width of the "widest" page of the document. This means that, if the document contains one page that is wider than the others or is in landscape orientation, then the default zoom, when viewing all the other narrower pages, is set in a way so that the page does not use the full width of the screen. This results in very poor experience, because the zoom level and the visible area of the page have to be constantly adjusted for each page. The latest update (at the time of writing) has added some extra view modes, but not the much needed 'Fit width' or 'Fit visible'.
Personally, I can find no reason valid enough to justify the lack of such a view mode. Automatically setting the zoom level based on the width of the current page so as to take advantage of the full width of the screen should be a must have feature for mobile devices, if not the default behavior. The current default behavior regarding the zoom level is pretty much useless, even on 8"/10" screens. There should be a view mode in which the full width of the screen is always used to display the document.
Examples of documents for which the Adobe Reader for Android provides a poor reading experience are:
documents which contain some of their pages in landscape orientation.
publications which, apart from the main content, also contain the full front and back cover in a single page (usually first page which is much wider than the content pages) or any other extra pages like cards or application forms (that are meant to be printed) which usually use an A4/Letter page size etc.
documents which have been cropped by external utilities or scripts so as to eliminate unneeded white margins (in some cases not all pages have the same width).
Please consider fixing the default behavior in future releases of the Reader for Android or add a 'Fit width' or 'Fit visible' view mode.

Improved descriptions of example documents.

To add to this, if you prefer you can separate your JavaScript from your JSF pages.
Add a folder (I named mine 'js') to your application's ViewController project's public_html folder.
Via JDeveloper, create a new JavaScript file inside your newly created folder and place your JavaScript functions inside it.
You can then 'load' the .js file using the method Shantala described, with the addition of an added 'source' property to the af:reference tag.
(This can also be a URI reference to a JavaScript file hosted on a web server)

It appears however, that when using <af:resource> to load scripts, once the page has been submitted even once, the JavaScript is no longer available to the page. Which isn't very useful.
A solution is to use <trh:script>.
Add xmlns:trh="http://myfaces.apache.org/trinidad/html" to your <jsp:root> tag and install the library.
then in place of the above code use:

</f:facet>Now after a page submit the JavaScript still functions.

Video cropping and zooming issue

I'm new to this product and couldn't find my specific issue (or at least didn't recognize it).
I was using downloaded video to make a simple music video (to experiment with on the trial version). So I have the first clip in the sequence and then I add a second clip and after working with it for a few minutes notice that in the sequence viewer the video is enlarged and the sides are cropped so I'm only seeing an enlarged picture of the center. The zoom was still on fit though. I don't understand why the video was automatically zoomed and cropped by Premiere and when I delete the clip and put it back in it does the same.
Any insight?
The first clip in the video was a 640 x 360 While the second video was 1280 x 720 and both had square pixels (1.0)
They were however both WMVs.

The fact that the Zoom level is set to Fit means that the view in the Program Monitor is zoomed to fit the panel, not that the clip is scaled to fit the sequence.
If your second clip is larger than the first, and you place the second clip into a sequence that is sized for the first, then you are naturally only going to see a piece (such as the cropped center in your case) unless you scale the second clip down. Or use a bigger sequence.
If you want the clip to automatically be scaled to fit the sequence, then you can turn on the Default Scale To Frame Size preference. (See this for a video explanation of that preference.)
In general, you scale with the Scale property of the Motion effect, not with the Zoom setting in the panel.

Safari on rMBP has 200% zoom level by default when viewing standalone images.

I have a MacBook Air 13" Mid 2010 and recently purchased a MacBook Pro with Retina Display 15" Mid 2012. I have updated Safari to 6.0 on both machines, but here comes the problem when I use Safari to view a standalone image on my rMBP.
Normally when I view a standalone image on Safari, the zoom level is 100% which means I see the actual pixeles of the image. Once you open an image in a new tab or a new window, if the dimensions of the image is bigger than the window, let's say 5000x4000, the dimensions of the image will be adjusted to fit within the window. And then the cursor becomes a tiny circle with the "+" sign inside (sorry for my poor description, I hope you can get it) which is the zoom icon, by clicking the image you zoom to the actual pixels of the image which shows 100% of the image.
However this works on my MBA but it doesn't on my rMBP as the zoom level is 200% by default. The following web pages are the ones where I found to have the same problem and they have better explanations:

I've seen this reported before -- sometimes PSE needs to have the zoom set to even multiples of 25%. You can try searching Adobe's site to see if anyone has found a solution.

Can I lock in a zoom level (e.g. Page View) so it won't change?

I'm wondering if there is a way to prevent Adobe Reader from changing my zoom level. I prefer to read with the zoom level set to Fit Page. Every time I click on a bookmark to jump to another page in the document, the zoom level changes to Fit Width (I think). This is extremely annoying because I have to keep changing the view back to Fit Page. In preferences I have put the default zoom to Fit Page, but that only determines how it comes up initially. When I click on a bookmark it changes again.
I don't understand why the zoom changes when you click a bookmark at all. Why would I want the zoom to change on me?
FYI, I'm using Reader XI (11.0.08).

Thanks CtDave. I don't have anything besides the free reader, so I did some further research on the web and found a solution that is pretty "brute force", but is an option for others that only have the free reader. Here is a link to the full description:

Here is the basics: You can use a text editor and edit the PDF file. Once in the text editor you can search for /FitH or /Fit (there surely are other codes, but those are the only ones I know of). These are codes that tell Acrobat what kind of zoom level to apply to the destination of a jump. So the bookmarks should all have these. Simply do a search and replace with /XYZ. The /XYZ code tells Acrobat to leave the zoom level as it already is.
It might sound a bit weird, but I tried it on multiple files I was having trouble with and it worked great. Of course, my suggestion would be to make backup copy of the file before doing this in case something goes wrong.

Hierarchy Viewer: Setting default zoom level and levelFetchSize

I have couple of questions on Hierarchy Viewer:
(1) Is it possible to set the zoom level to say 50% by default when the HV is rendered first time. By default the nodes are rendered at 100%, but I would like to render them at 50% by default - and on hover show the 100%. Is this doable ? User can then decide to zoom to 100% if desired.
(2) Is it possible to change the levelFetchSize based on zoom level ? For example if the zoom level is 100%, levelFetchSize could be 4 but at 50%, it would be increased to 8 (since more real estate is available) ?

It seems like the DVT by default zooms to fit the available real estate. But is it possible to set a fixed zoom level (say 75%) even if the node does have 100% zoom level. We would like to show the 100% zoom level only on hover to the node. But by default, wanted to to set the viewer to always show 75% or 50% zoom level.

Comp viewer becomes flat blue at certain zoom levels

This is a problem I've had with several different versions of After Effects, and on more than one computer and I haven't been able to find any information about it.
Sometimes, especially after RAM previewing, my comp viewer will turn blue and I can't see my work unless I'm at a different zoom level. Sometimes after a while another zoom level will turn blue also.
I've tried purging, which solves the problem in the short term, but it tends to come after a short while. Thoughts? Thank you!

I see you have a Mac running AE CC 2014. If you're on Yosemite, you need to update AE so it works properly with AE. First thing to check.
I also see a frame rate of 23.98 in the preview panel. That's a non-existant frame rate in AE. It doesn't go by the mythical frame rate of 23.98, it uses the ACTUAL frame rate: 23.976. You should use it, too.

Getting flicker at top and bottom of screen - should I crop or zoom in?

Hi all, this is related to another thread I have here but I wanted to ask specifically...what is better...cropping or zooming?
I have just finished editing a long production in 16:9 and have been monitoring the edit process on a 16:9 television.
When the finished product is watched on the 16:9 tv, there is no flicker evidentat either the top or bottom of the screen.
When watched on a 4:3 television in letterbox mode, naturally the top and bottom edges are exposed and this presents some flicker at the top and bottom extremeties on some shots.
I can get rid of this flicker on the edges without re-editing time-consuming scenes by either zooming in a fraction or cropping the finished video top and bottom by a factor of 4 using the motion settings.
I have monitored the cropping method on the 16:9 screen and you cannot see it until it is cropped by a factor of 5, and of course on the 4:3 screen the cropping method will only mean there is slightly more black top and bottom on the letterbox effect.
I guess zooming in to get rid of the flickering will mean the quality of the picture degrades a little so cropping would probably be best.
Is this your opinion as weel?

Yes, any picture re-sizing degrades the original.

Yes. To avoid losing anything, you could always only crop the shots from the camera that has the flicker (might take a while).

Can I keep firefox at a 125% zoom level? I use my HDTV as a monitor and would like the view to be larger without having to hit "ctrl +" on each web page.

I would like firefox to default to a 125% zoom level. Is ther a way I can do this through firefox or through my desktop?

The following Add-on will allow you to set whatever default %-age works best for you. After install, go to Add-ons > Extensions > Default FullZoom Level > Options, in the Options window, "Default FullZoom Level (percent)". That will set ALL pages at your choice.

Zoom level feedback in full screen...

Now that the application bar has been dropped from CS6, the zoom level feedback is also gone in full screen mode.
It would be nice to see zoom level feedback similar to how Pixelmator displays the level with each zoom in or out in the center of the frame.
The UI device is similar to the feedback that the new crop tool displays to show the changing image size.

it's really not a big thing, I generally hang around during new releases to make sure there aren't any giant holes to fall into. If this is the worst thing that I can complain about in a new release then Adobe did a good job.
