Cropping tool for illustrator

hello,
does anyone know of a similar plugin or a script or something that can do Cropping like Kimbo did, but for CC?
I've searched, but I haven't found anything and it seems crazy that no one would try to replicate that function.
this is the plug I'm refering to
http://members.shaw.ca/spvincent/plugins/Kimbo_files/Kimbo.html
but I actually only care for the rectangle cut tool. it is very hepful for cropping nasty autocad imports.

http://www.astutegraphics.com has several plug ins which will allow similar operations as the Kimbo plug in used to.
As for the simple cutting, Illustrator's built in Pathfinder can complete that. There is a Pathfinder > Crop option. It won't work on all object (rasters, meshes), but other than that, it will crop shapes as needed.

  • Cropping tool now deletes whole image in Photoshop CS4

Recently the cropping tool has taken to deleting the whole image, no matter what is cropped.  I've been attempting to trim the edges, something that was working just fine a few months ago (now operating under Snow Leopard, so wouldn't be awfully surprised if it was an SL glitch). But...suddenly, for no obvious reason, when I select part or most of an image and then hit return to crop, the entire image disappears and I'm left with nothing.
I've scanned through the preferences but can't find anything related that might be set or checked where it shouldn't be.  Wondering if this is where we throw out the plist and try again; and also if this is a phenomenon others have encountered.
    thanks,
    gf

    Wade,
Sorry I didn't answer your previous post. No, resetting the crop tool, for whatever reason, didn't wipe that 1pixel measurement in Width (and frankly I still don't know when or how it arrived in the first place, but clearly must have been me at some point).  I've used Photoshop for more than a decade and it's the first time I've bunged that up quite so cleverly.  Now you mention it, though, it's odd a reset didn't wipe out that measurement.  Now at least I'll be watching to see if and how it returns.

  • Crop Tool went missing  5.1

OK, I am not new to PS5.1 Extended.  I have been using Photoshop and the Crop Tool for years. . .  tonight, I was going through a long list of photos, cropping, savings, closing, opening, cropping, saving. . . and I may have dragged the mouse across the page or something, but whatever I did, I have lost the crop tool.  It's gone.
And on top of that, if I open a JPG image and then go to the Image menu item, the Crop selection is grayed out. . .
What the h^$% have I done and how can I get it back?
I have tried reseting my work place (Essentials) but that has not worked.

The crop tool is grouped with the slice tools in the toolbox and the crop menu item is grayed out unless you have an active selection or the crop tool drawn out.

  • Crop tool won't deselect

I was trying out the crop tool on Illustrator CS3 on Windows XP. I can access other tools but when I use the select tools it keeps returning to the crop tool. The file is a pdf opened in Illustrator (raster). Vector files are not a problem -
When I go back to the original pdf and open it the crop tool still appears and I get a horizontal band already selected. This band an be deleted or resized but I cannot access the area I want to use.
How do I get the crop tool off?

    Frustrating isn't the word.
I reported this through a previous post (much the same as you are experiencing).
    crop not keeping to ratio
It was ok in LR3 and is ok in LR5 (I think)
so they have fixed the bug, but where does that leave the LR4.4 users ??
    Upgrade to LR5 ?
Surely there should be a LR4.4 bug fix that can be downloaded instead of yet another purchase to upgrade.

    Hi,
I'm working with Illustrator CS3 and seem to have a problem with the crop area tool. When exporting an image in "save for web", however, Illustrator just ignores the settings and crops to the artboard.
Is this a know bug? Or my computer going nuts? What should I do?

Basically, I would do this as James does. However, James is assuming you know what he means by "Use two applications of Transform effect to make the 3 x 4 array." Since you or another reader may not, I offer the following recipe that I prepared some time ago for a class. It's for 8-up business cards that will fit on letter-size stock.
    SETTING UP THE ELEMENTS
New document, rename Layer 1 to Cards.
Make a rectangle 3.5 X 2 inches (the size of a standard business card). Give it no stroke and a light gray fill (so you can see it as reference; you can clear the fill later).
Make a single set of crop marks for the top left corner. I made a 27-pt. square (3/8 inch) - no stroke or fill - and another at 18 pts (1/4 inch) - .25 stroke, no fill. Copy a horizontal segment from the smaller square, paste, and drag it to snap its left anchor to the bottom left anchor of the larger square. Copy a vertical segment from the small square, paste, and drag it to snap its upper anchor to the top right corner of the larger square. Delete the small square and group the segments/large square. Drag this group into the Symbols panel so you never have to make one again. The group on the page is now a Symbol; drag it by its lower right anchor to snap to the upper left corner of the business card rectangle. The two quarter-inch crop marks are offset from the card by 1/8 inch.
    Select the crop symbol.
Go to Effect > Distort & Transform > Transform
Move Horizontal: 3.5 inches (the width of the card)
    Move Vertical: 0
    Copies: 1.
Reference Point (tic-tac-toe thing): right column
    Reflect X: On
OK. The crop marks appear on the upper right corner of the card.
    Effect > Distort & Transform > Transform
    (Warning box: Apply New Effect)
    Move Horizontal: 0
    Move Vertical: -2
    Copies: 1
    Reference Point: lower row
    Reflect Y: On
OK. Crop marks appear on all four corners of the card.
At this point you can give the card rectangle a fill and stroke of None, and save the card/crop marks combination as a symbol. Call it BC.
Delete all the unused Symbols and Save Symbol Library: "BC"
Target the Card layer (click on the circle)
    Effect > Distort & Transform > Transform
    Move Horizontal: 4 inches
    Move Vertical: 0
    Copies: 1
    Reference Point: any
    Reflect: Both Off
OK. A copy of the card with its crop marks appears 1/2 inch to right of original.
    Effect > Distort & Transform > Transform
    Move Horizontal: 0
    Move Vertical: -2.5 inches
    Copies: 3
    Reference Point: any
    Reflect: Both Off
OK. 3 new rows of cards and crops appear below the first row
You now have crop marks for 8-up business cards; the original crop symbol and card rectangle are selected.
Go to the Graphic Styles panel and make this a new graphic style; name it BC 8-Up. Delete all the unused Graphic Styles, and Save Graphic Style Library as "BC 8-UP"
    USING THE ELEMENTS
New document. Drag out an instance of the BC symbol, and put it in the upper left corner of your letter-size page.
Click the BC 8-Up Graphic Style. Eight blank business cards are laid out.
New layer. Over the top left business card create or place any combination of type or art you want repeated on all the cards.
Target the layer and click the BC 8-Up Graphic Style. The artwork appears in place on all the cards. Any editing you do in the top left card is instantly reflected in the others. Also, because the style is applied to the layer, anything you put on this layer will have the style applied to it.
New layer. Over the top left business card place any type you want to be different on each card. With it selected as an object, click the BC 8-Up style - the type appears on all the cards.
Object > Expand Appearance. The type on each card is now individually editable.

  • Recommended tool for technical illustrations to be embedded in FrameMaker document?

I'm new to Framemaker and don't know, if this is the right tool for me.
I have written a technical document of about 500 pages using MS-Word. Now I want to figure out, if FrameMaker would be a good alternative. I think it could be.
But one of my needs is to be able to create technical illustrations (diagrams with shapes with text and arrows, lines and arrows linked to the shapes when repositioned).
In my opinion the capabilities of FrameMaker to create such illustrations are very limited.
Currently I create the illustrations using MS-Word-2010. I think concerning illustrations MS-Word is more capable than FrameMaker.
On the other hand the capabilities of Adobe Illustrator are plenty too much for me.
Can you recommend some external tool for creating illustrations, which can be easily integrated into a FrameMaker document?
    Regards,
    Martin

Import the ai file directly into the FrameMaker doc.
Select where you want the illustration to be located (use the smart select tool and click on the area in your text flow)
    File>Import>File
If you want to have the illustration in the document to automatically update when the drawing changes, select Import By Reference.
Once imported you have the option of positioning where you want it to be located relative to the text.
Right click the anchored frame, select Anchored Frame
Select the Anchoring Position, Alignment, etc.
Adobe Illustrator is all you need to create quality Technical Illustrations.

  • CS6 PS Cropping Tool has many problems for working professionals...

Ok, I understand that the kids at Adobe would like to change things around in "upgrade versions" of Photoshop.  However for working photographers and professionals that crop A LOT of images in the course of their work, the new cropping tool is a DISASTER!  A few may like the new tool... however, there are many that don't.  http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/photoshop_6_crop_tool?utm_content=re ply_link&utm_medium=email&utm_source=reply_notification#reply_10280572
To the point, here's how to fix the problem.  Adobe, you have the CS5 PS cropping tool code... please put that code EXACTLY as it is in CS5 into the "Classic" option for CS6 PS.  This way, those who WORK with Photoshop and PAY to use the software can get their work done using the excellent crop tool as was in CS5 (which I have downgraded to so I can get work done) and those who are giddy about the new crop tool can play to their hearts content.
Adobe, you are upsetting a lot of paying clients with your new crop tool and the "faux" classic tool option.  You might want to address this issue soon!

Ken, I have to say that I too chose to go back to CS5.  I feel like I got nailed with being an "early adopter", you know the guys that get to do the bug testing for a company because they didn't know how to do it or were too cheap.
That is something that  Noel (How you doing Noel? You probably don't remember me from back in the Macromedia user group days, but thought I'd say hi anyhow) either doesn't understand or isn't acknowledging so far.
I am judging by his like 19k+ posts that he's either a rep on behalf of Photoshop or an avid user.   I appreciate what he is trying to do, but on the other hand, just admit the tool is a pain.  It isn't intuitive. It does take WAY too long to figure out to use.
I have NEVER had this much problem with any tool in Photoshop. This tool represents the biggest pain I have EVER experienced with a Photoshop tool and I've used it since '93. I adore Photoshop. I am a power user. Those words aren't the words of a flippant newbie.
I know if I use it for 8 hours a day like you Noel, that I will get used to it, but that isn't the point.
The point is that I feel like I was hit with a poorly thought out tool, with a poorly implemented "Classic" mode that feels buggy, to say the least. It's usability doesn't "flow" because for example what genius thought of hitting the P key to go into Classic mode, when that conflicts with the Pen/Paths tool? Really? My deeper concern is that Photoshop is slipping on it's usability standards like Apple is on it's iPhones.  In the words of usability guru, Steve Krug "Don't make me think."
What I chose to do is this:
1)Grudgingly use CS6 for the things it does really really well. Can I just say I love the new Raw interface, and love "Clarity" for example? Great job guys. I watched a tutorial and got it almost instantly.
2)Continue to use CS5 for cropping lot's of images, something I also do a lot of.  Cross my fingers that whoever dropped the ball on this gets their act together and makes this tool truly usable and intuitive.   At the very least they will make the Classic mode work properly.  For example, why do I keep popping out of Classic mode? Why doesn't the preference stick consistently? There shouldn't be a learning curve this steep on a crop tool. I'm really surprised this didn't come up in usability testing.
I hate being the first adopter, because they get to work out all the kinks for the people who failed to do their job in the first place. That's what feels like happened here.  If users don't complain and give feedback, Adobe will never fix the problem, right?
Now before somebody freaks out and calls this a flame, it isn't. No emotion is to be read into this that isn't expressly stated.  I'm not being sarcastic, sardonic or unfriendly. Whatever tone is being read into this is a projection of your own mind.

  • Crop tool in Camera Raw 8.4 for PS CS6

I recently downloaded camera raw 8.4 for use with photoshop CS6. The crop tool in camera raw now only allows me to crop to a ratio rather than to a specific size. I usually crop to 9x13 or 17x22 inches. How do I get this feature back?  I prefer and need to crop my work to a specific size.
    Thanks, Jeff D.

    Good day!
I notice no difference to prior to 8.4.
But maybe the ACR Forum may be a better place for questions realted to ACR.

  • Dimension tool plugin necessary for Illustrator ?

    Hello,
unfortunatley my company bought CS4, but a few employees also sometimes need  to add dimensions to drawings similar like in CAD software for engineer drawings possible.
But it looks like that it is NOT working with Illustrator CS4. (although written in Wikipedia, that illustrator closes gap between CAD and pixel basing software.)
Is there any possibility to install plugin for Illustrator or is Illustrator having such tool ?
    Thanks for helping !
    Jan

I have an AI Javascript that I built for my own convenience, which creates simple linear dimension callouts, as described here.
It is dependendent upon two Graphic Styles and one Paragraph Style which can be added to your documents (or templates) by copying / pasting from the .ai file that is included in the download .zip. However...
It is little unbelievable that Adobe, eliminated dimension tool from Illustrator. Why ?
    Illustrator never had dimension tools.
although written in Wikipedia, that illustrator closes gap between CAD and pixel basing software
Whomever wrote that should be horse-whipped. (Or worse, forced to do techish commercial drawing with Illustrator in a roomful of others who are using either Canvas or CorelDraw.) That is probably the worst mis-characterization of what Illustrator is that I have ever heard.
Did my company buy the wrong software ?
Probably. If dimension tools and a few other very common features necessary for techish illustration are a frequent need, absolutely. Illustrator not only lacks ordinary dimension tools, it also lacks:
    Reliable snaps.
    User-defined drawing scales.
    Connector lines.
    Callout objects.
Live shape primitives (rectangles, polygons, ellipses, arcs) with geometric parameters (corner radii, etc.) that can be adjusted after creation.
Proper corner rounding / chamfering commands.
Any feature assist for mechanically corrrect perspective construction.
Is there any other software from adope, which is able to work on .jpg picture and using dimensioning, too ?
JPEG is just a lossy compression format for raster images. I don't know what it, in particular, would have to do with what you have described so far (using a mainstream drawing program to make attractive commercial illustration based on line work exported from CAD software).
But unlike most of its direct competitors these days, Illustrator does not provide any features (other than the ability to apply Photoshop filters) for actually editing raster images. It can import a raster image (JPEG or other) and manipulate it as an object (rotate it, scale it, mask it, etc.). But there are no pixel-editing features.
You have not very well described what your company's needs are. But just given your mention of dimension tools as being important and your need for something to "bridge" between working product drawings and commercial product illustration, I dare say you would be far better off with Canvas, Corel Draw, or Corel Designer.
Unlike its competitors, Illustrator has always treated anything the least bit "techish" as if it's something to fear. It's competitors embrace it as what it is: a huge segment of the overall mainstream commercial illustration world. And it isn't just this seeming "technical" vs. "paper doily" aversion. Much of it is simply the fact that Illustrator has never kept up with its competitors in straighforward, no-nonsense path drawing features. Illustrator has always sat too fat-and-lazy on its Adobe label for market share.
People (including myself) do technical/commercial illustration in Illustrator all the time. Most commerical product illustration is of that nature. But in doing so, they constantly employ tedious, cumbersome, and time-wasteful workarounds for the pathetically weak feature set of Illustrator--or they buy add-ons which cost half what they paid for Illustrator all over again. (I've never understood that mindset. No matter how well-done the plug-in, it's never as cleanly-integrated with the overall program as built-in features; and you have to put up with everything that goes along with mission-critical dependency upon add-ons from small third-party providers.)
