Cross Connection Detected - Pipex DSL

I've recently had the mis-pleasure of having to re-install and archive my iMac G5 back to OSX 10.3.5 (was running on 10.3.9), as I was getting a blank grey screen on start-up, which I'm still at a loss as to why my iMac suddenly stopped working after two years of iMac joy.
Unfortunately, I didn't tick the box to keep all my user settings, [doh!], and have had to re-install and re-configure my dsl settings to connect to my isp Pipex.
I've followed their support instructions as detailed on their website to the below settings:
Location: Automatic
Show: Speedtouch USB
PPP
Service Provider: Pipex Xtreme
Account Name [email protected] (my username)
Password: .......
Telephone Number: 0,38
I've re-installed the Alcatel Speedtouch modem software, and the iMac recognises the modem, when it's plugged into any of the USB ports.
When I try and connect to the service, I get the message
"A cross connection has been detected, please verify your settings and try again", which I have done countless times.
I know my Pipex service is ok, as it works fine on my PC, from where I type this now.
I've left it several days, I've re-booted countless times.
Does anyone know what else I need to do?
I've emailed Pipex, in the hope their support team can help, but thought I'd try here as well.
What causes the above error?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

I am having exactly the same issues aswell and looking at the posts there was no end to the problem with the product working.  Can anyone shed some insight as I have tried all the same steps but to no avail.... the status tab gives me no IP/gateway/DNS information -
Connection Type: Automatic Configuration - DHCP     Internet IP Address: 0.0.0.0     Subnet Mask: 0.0.0.0     Default Gateway: 0.0.0.0
if i try and ping an IP address from my machine or using digits when connected direct to modem then I get correct response but when using the router with wired connection then it cannot find IP addresses and  times out...

  • My router RV180 doesn't detect my dsl gateway

I just bougth a RV router but when i logon to the interface to configure it the router doesn't detect internet connection, i connected the ethernet cable port 1 from dsl to the WAN port at the RV180, but doesn't detetct the gateway, need i a cross cable? Because i can logon to the configuration wizard but it seems the router cannot detect the dsl internet connection.

    Hello,
Usually a DSL connection will require that the modem be put into bridged mode, and then our device is configured as PPPoE.  To configure the modem you would need to speak with the ISP.  Some of them call this IP passthrough, one-to-one NAT, or just bridged mode.  You may have to ask for a supervisor before they will do this for you.
You will also need to get your PPPoE credentials from your provider.  Then you log into the admin page on the RV180, go to Networking >> WAN (Internet) >> PPPoE Profiles.  Click on Add and enter the information from the provider.  Then switch to the IPv4 WAN (Internet) page and change the connection type to PPPoE and select the profile you just created from the drop down menu.
While you are there you may also want to change your MTU from default to 1472, most DSL connections require this smaller MTU size to work properly.
If you do have any issues with that your new router does come with 1 year of technical support, so you can give us a call and we can help get you setup as well.
Cisco Small Business Support Center Contact Numbers
Please note you would still need to speak with the provider first to get the modem bridged and obtain the PPPoE credentials.
    Hope that helps.

  • Powerbook G4 with RAZR V3 as modem crossed connections error

I'm having what seems to be a very simple problem trying to use my phone as a modem. Unfortunately my new apartment isn't wired for cable or a landline, so I thought this would be the easiest option for Internet. Think again! I've been trying to reach T Mobile for 2 days, and have been left on hold for up to two hours. Finally they told me that the problem is with my Mac software and not the phone.
Basically the problem is this. When I try to dial up with my bluetooth (I have all the settings correct, I believe, plus the T Mobile password/number in place) it connects, and then immediately disconnects giving an error of:
"A crossed connection was detected. Please check your settings and try again."
I am at my wit's end and don't know what to do. My computer is about 2 years old - I don't know what version of OSX I have, because as you've seen, I have to send this message from work since I don't have Internet at home.
Is there a software update for bluetooth I should install? As far as I know I'm more or less up to date on my updates.
    Thank you!!!!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
They are right: this is an issue on your end involving your configuration. It involves the use of an inappropriate modem driver. Your Motorola RAZR V3 is a GPRS modem when connected to your computer using the Bluetooth dial-up networking [DUN] profile, and requires an appropriate modem script, account settings specific to your carrier, and a data plan.
If you are a T-Mobile subscriber with T-Mobile Unlimited Internet, you have the required data plan. Your Internet Connect settings should be:
    Telephone number: *99#
    Account name: voicestream
    Password: voicestream
The APN identifier is internet2.voicestream.com for standard connections and internet3.voicestream.com for virtual private networking connections. Which you are configure to use depends upon your prior communication with T-Mobile data specialists, but the default is the non-VPN internet2.voicestream.com identifier.
You can locate a GPRS script at Ross Barkman's site at…
    http://www.taniwha.org.uk
…or purchase Macron's GPRS Script Generator to create and fine-tune your own. More information about the Macron product is available here:

  • Amateur having trouble connecting to ATT DSL.  Not recognizing DSL signal

Just bought Airport extreme and tried connecting the lines as described in book but no signal is detected from DSL line into the base station. Please help

Hello calikid323...Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I'm assuming that you have the new 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn)...correct? If so, how do you have it connected to the Internet? Is it something like the following?
ATT ISP > (DSL line) > [DSL port] DSL modem [Ethernet port] > (Ethernet cable) > [WAN port] AEBSn > (wireless) > wireless devices

  • Issues with vpn connection thru ATT DSL

Hi I hope someone can help me out...
At work we use Cysco VPN Client Verstion 4.8.02.0010
Everyone (about 18 people) can connect to it from their homes. For some reason I am the only member who can not connect.
I am tryihg to connect Via ATT DSL and Cysco VPN Client shows that I am connected, however,
I have no access to any of the networks from work.
I have tried connecting using Cox Cable from a friend's home and it connects just fine.
I have read many threads online that indicate that this is a common occurance with ATT DSL users but I have not found
    the fix.
    I am using modem/router type 2701 HG-B
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,

Make sure the encrytpion and parameters such as VPN group are negtotiated properly between the client and the server. Refer http://cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk583/tk372/technologies_tech_note09186a00800949c5.shtml for most commonly occuring VPN issues . Contact ATT for configuring their servers.

  • Lost connection detection time difference

Having a problem understanding why a broken JDBC connection is detected under Windows much quicker than it is under Linux.
I have an process that opens a connection to MSSQL using JDBC, a Stored Procedure is then executed and the result set
processed, this execute step is repeated every 60 seconds or so. If any exception is thrown then resources are closed, sleep
for 60 seconds, the connection is reopened (if fails then sleeps and repeats), once reopened the process continues. There is logging throughout
    the above steps.
On Windows Vista 64bit Sun Java platform the process runs fine, if I deliberately break the connection (stop MSSQL service), the process
logs a problems within 60 seconds and starts handling the error, when the MSSQL comes back then within 60 seonds the connection is remade
and the process continues as expected.
Under Ubuntu 10 64bit both Sun and OpenJDK the process runs fine, until the connectionis broken, as it takes about 17 minutes for the exception to be thrown
for the broken connection (stopped MSSQL) to be detected, as opposed to under Windows taking seconds. Once detected then the process works as expected, retrying
    and reconnecting as it should.
The libs and code used are the same the only difference between the windows and linux versions are the logging path parameter, have tried with different versions of Java
and with different MSSQL JDBC drivers.
What could be the reason for the time difference in the lost connection detection between Windows and Linux? Any help tips would be most welcome.
    Thanks.

The connection is only made once and used throughout, it is only closed if there is a problem. This runs absolutely fine with logging for weeks, the execute and processing take millisecondsIt is pointless to keep the connection in that situation. Create it every time.
Doing that might even fix your problem. But regardless you should still not keep it.
Have jujst checked the timings and if the db connection is broken the on Linux (Ubuntu) the exception generated by step 4. takes up to 15 minutes 35 seconds to move on to step 7. on Windows though it is instant, there is a log message output prior to the execute statement this outputs then the exeception logged. You have an existing connection.
Then you attempt a request which I am guess takes 17 minutes to timeout. (That happens because you are testing by stopping the server.)
    That is the problem.
First verify the connection url. It might have timeout values in it.
If not then the next most likely cause is that someone changed the OS (not java) TCP timeout values. Bad idea if they did. And the only way to fix is to change them back to something reasonable. You can code around this by using two threads. One that sets a timer and the other that runs the request. If the timer fires then attempt to cancel the request (see the jdbc api.)

  • Hi..I have an AirPort Extreme base connected to my DSL Modem and has been working fine. But I recently bought another DSL modem along with the latest Airport Express. With this one however I can't get it to connect to the Internet. Any suggestions?

Hi..I have an AirPort Extreme base connected to my DSL Modem and has been working fine. But I recently bought another DSL modem along with the latest Airport Express. With this one however I can't get it to connect to the Internet. The light on the Express is flashing green though. Does it mean I have to re-set the settings on Airport Utility? I.e. the old settings haven't been cleared yet. Any suggestions?

Let's see if I can get this straight.
You have an Airport Extreme base station that is set to "Create a wireless network" and you have the box checked for "allow this network to be extended"....
Then you have an Airport Express that is set to "Extend a wireless network" which you selected the name of your network in the box...
    Correct?
    See this Apple document:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4259?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
The wireless unit on the right of the diagram can be either of the newer Apple base stations.
    Extreme, Express, Time Capsule

  • No Network Connections Detected

    Hello
I have installed Oracle Linux 6 on my Laptop (Vaio VPCEA 12EG)....Everything is going fine even my graphic card. But there is no connection detected. No wireless and ethernet.
When I use Lspci I can see the drivers for both wireless and eth but still when i use network manager to connect to a network I can not see anything. Also when I connect my laptop
to a cable still I do not have anything.
    Wireless: Atheros ar9285
    Eth: Marvell Yukon 88E8059
I m a new user to linux. Guide me please.
    Thanks in Advance.

Some projects might help you to use your Ethernet card in Enterprise Linux. For instance: http://elrepo.org/tiki/tiki-index.php which has support for kmod-sk98lin, but I'm not sure if it works in version 6. Your Wireless card will be another story.
I would also suggest to try a Linux distribution like Fedora or Ubuntu. If you really need Enterprise Linux, for instance to install Oracle Database, you might consider using free Oracle Virtualbox, which also works under Windows.

  • Can't connect G3 to DSL

My friend has a dead hard drive on her Gateway (Windows 98) which was connected to a DSL modem. I tried to let her connect with my old Powerbook G3. We hooked up the network cable to the G3 and connected her monitor (the G3 screen is dim). The browsers would try to connect but always failed. Is there something else I could do? The Embarq tech support was unable to help. They did try, but were really not familiar with Mac, at least one that old. I have Internet Explorer on that computer and i think that is the only available browser. If I can connect, I will try to download a better one, if I can find one that will work! Thanks for any help.
    Ann

The main focus for getting OS 9 to connect would be the TCP/IP Control Panel. You enter whatever the ISP tells you to put in. Then you MUST close the window and save changes to have them take effect.
If they want you to use a username and password to connect, that is likely to be PPPoE, and you would need an additional program like MacPoet (which the ISP may be able to supply), a Router, or an Upgrade to Mac OS X 10.2 or later which supports PPPoE built-in (but would require 256 MB or more RAM to run properly).

  • Sun Cluster & 6130/6140 thru switch with cross-connections not supported?

    Hi:
I noticed that the 6140 does not support cross-connecting the 2 controllers to 2 switches for higher availability when using Sun Cluster:
    http://docs.sun.com/source/819-7497-10/chapter3.html
Does anyone know why this restriction is there?
    Thanks!

Since there was no real answer to the question in this forum, I cross posted this issue to the cluster forum.
See http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5261282&tstart=0 for the full thread.
Basically, the restriction against cross-connections is no longer valid and the documentation should be updated to remove the note.
This is all a good thing, because I had my 6140's wired into my sun cluster environment via the 'cross-connections' method diagramed in figure 3-4. :-)

  • Cisco 3020 internal cross-connect

    Hey, network professionals!
I found the following text about the Cisco 3020 switch:
Dual-purpose external/internal 10/100/1000BASE-T copper Gigabit Ethernet uplink ports. These
ports can be configured for internal 1000BASE-X cross-connection with a corresponding switch
module. When ports 23x and 24x are in external operation mode, they support auto-MDIX and
autonegotiation. The default is external operation mode.
But how exactly are the internal connections between my 6 cisco 3020 switches in the c7000 HP Blade enclosure ?
What does "corresponding switch module" means ?
    Thank you
    Constantin

I have to say yes, it can since the concentrator can be defined as a hub for vpn traffic, in here I will ask you a question. Do the devices on the "outside" meaning on the public side of the concentrator know how to reach the vpn client? In other words do these devices have a route back to the concetrator to reach the vpn client's pool?

  • Bypass(IPS or TAP) network cross-connect the two RJ45 connectors electrically thus creating an extended Layer 1 network

Thanks for your time and knowledge. I am trying to understand how bypass mode works in terms of cross connection.
Bypass mode:  network relays cross-connect the two RJ45 connectors electrically thus creating an extended Layer 1 network
Let us focus on one connection  COM1 ---  3560 ---  ELFIQ (Link Balancer) ---- ASA.
Basically ELFIQ will be a bypass mode when power is gone.
The engineer told me that I have to put cross cable between ELFIQ and ASA5505 only which is "2" cable from below diagram.
     So, it will be
COM1 ------(Straight)-----  3560 -----(straight)------  ELFIQ (Link Balancer) -----(cross)--- ASA.
And he told me also that if there is no switch (in future). I need to put both cables as cross cables.
     COM1 ------------- (Cross) ------------------ ELFIQ-------------- (Cross) ------------------ ASA5505
I couldn't see any consistency from this bypass works because case 1 (with switch) and case 2 (without switch)
Is my understanding right like below?
     case 1: straight - straight - cross : cross

  • Do mutiple 6120 cross-connect (heartbeat) work through a switch?

We have two 6120s connected to two UCS 5108s in two separate rooms in our building.  We have just completed a 2nd formal server room and will be moving one of the 6120/5108 pairs into that room.  Currently, the 6120's are cross connected (1Gig copper) to each other and all of the 10Gig connections are appropriately connected.
The issue is that the two server rooms are more than 100m apart so there is no copper connections between the rooms.  We have switches in each room connected via 10Gig fiber.
Our VAR who installed originally this sent an e-mail that these 1Gig copper cross connects must not pass through a switch.  He has left to get married and is gone for a few weeks.
We are not moving this until November, but I'm not willing to wait a couple of weeks until the engineer returns to get the answer to this question.  I have looked on CCO and other than identifying the 1Gig ports as "cross-connect" or "cluster", I can't find anything out.
I would think that they would work through a switch, perhaps in their own non-routed VLAN or something.
Will this work?  Is there a design guide on CCO that shows it?
    Thanks!
    /alan

    Alan
What you are asking for is an enhancement which I fully agree with.
Latency is not the issue here. It is how the software which manages the L1-L2 links on the FI's.
They are bonded internally. Not expecting any other traffic (CDP, BPDU or anything else when you connect to a switch for example amongst other things). You connect a switch in between and bonding breaks. You could now potentially think of 1 link to get around bonding or turn channel-group explicitly on the switch etc..
But the fact of the matter is that it has neither been tested/blessed nor advertised as a possible workaround.
So currently it won't work and *if* it does, you are in unchartered territory where support if something breaks is going to be an issue.
If you look at the User Guide at
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/sw/gui/config/guide/b_GUI_Config_Guide.html
Page 63 and 65 have references to it -
The L1 ports on both fabric interconnects are directly connected to each other.
The L2 ports on both fabric interconnects are directly connected to each other.
To use the cluster configuration, the two fabric interconnects must be directly connected together using Ethernet cables between the L1 (L1-to-L1) and L2 (L2-to-L2) high availability ports, with no other fabric interconnects in between.
Note: I would have written  "with no other *switches* in between" rather than fabric interconnect above but then thats me.
The 10 Gig links cannot be used for heartbeat either. All mgmt is the 4 1 gig ports that you see on the FI's. 10gig's are data.
Sorry to be the bearer of the bad news

I purchased yesterday an airport extreme, everything works fine, but the thing is that when I close my laptop (just shutting down the screen) and then reopen it, instead of conecting to the airport extreme network I created, it connects to my DSL connection. Is this normal? Do I have to keep entering my own airport extreme network after I close/shut down my computer? Thank you very much
