Cross-dissolve from white frame to adjustment layer no longer works in CC 2014

Windows 7, Premiere Pro CC 2014
I have a video clip in a nested sequence on V1 and an adjustment layer on V2.
I want to dissolve from a white frame to the clip using the adjustment layer.
In PP CC (not 2014) this was simple:
Starting with a white PNG graphic on V2, cross-dissolve to the adjustment layer.
However, in PP CC 2014, this causes a dissolve to BLACK over the duration of the dissolve and then a CUT to the video.
This behavior in CC 2014 is illogical. Why has it changed?
There are other ways to do this, but this one was quick and easy, and is required for hundreds of clips in existing sequences / projects.

For me with a color matte it shows exactly the same behavior as with a PNG.
You're dissolving between the matte and the adjustment layer on V2?

for example
1) keyframe -> @0% the second keyframe @100% the video is all in color ,doesn't matter how many keyframes i add
2) first key @100% second @0% (opacity) the video is all in black and white , again doesn't matter how many keyframes i add , only the first is read
i tried the black and white effect , on video ,titles and so on and it works perfectly , it doesn't work on the adjustament layer
i tried others effects on adjustament layer and they work
is a bug ?
is there an known bug in prev. versions?

Creating cross-dissolve from still photo to video

Hello all ...
I'm try to create a simple cross-dissolve between a black-and-white photo (imported into FCE as an RGB Photoshop file) and a color (1440x1080) video clip. My problem is that FCE will only insert the dissolve on the right (video) side of the edit, the result being that the photo abruptly goes to black, followed by a gradual fading-in of the video. This is not the effect I want – I'm hoping to create a smoother transition between the two. I suspect that I haven't saved the still photo in the correct format, but I can't seem to find any help in my various FCE books.
So: How do I apply the transition to both sides of the edit? Is it even possible?

Tom, I figured it out. The audio for the video clip was overlapping the edit (i.e. it extended to the left, so that the video clip's audio ran under the still pic). When I got rid of the (easily replaced) audio, the regular cross-dissolve worked.
Now I just need to figure out how to make the transition last longer than 13 frames!

Cross-references from one Frame book to another

I have a client who has two FrameMaker 8 books. The books were a mess (left over from a previous contractor - it was a nightmare) and they hired me to fix them.
But one thing that did work in the old books was their cross-ref setup - they need cross-refs from each book to the other one. The client knew that they had to have the Frame and pdf files in a stable folder structure that did not change. Then, when they created their two pdfs, the cross-refs "found each other" properly.
I fixed everything in the Frame docs EXCEPT those book-to-book cross-refs. I told my client that they would have to create those on their own, because I couldn't duplicate their folder structure - and they were fine with that. But I DID create all cross-refs that were within each individual book (hundreds of them - very technical books).
But now they are getting hundreds of unresolved cross-refs when they open the files in each book. I thought they must have moved some files out of the folders that I gave them in their zip files, but they swear they haven't done so.
For the life of me, I can't think of any other reason why they're having trouble with the cross-refs. Any ideas?

Gilda, Here are some simple rules for creating book-to-book links in PDFs from FM: 1. If you're creating the PDFs of the books as a single PDF, then you must have the respective ".book" files open (no need for the .fm files to be open), when creating the PDFs. Otherwise, the "external" links will be made to the specific pdf equivalent of the ".fm" file, if the ".book" file is not open. 2. The links between the books on the same disk drive, will be as relative links, which need to preserved if the files are moved. 3. If the goal is to have all of the book PDFs in one place for distribution, then it's best to place all of the .book files in the same folder to begin with. The .fm files can be in their own respective project folders, but you have to keep the books together. Caution: simply moving/copying (or doing a Save As from within FM) the .book files to the common folder will not work, as they will be missing the (relative) path to the actual .fm files. You'll need to either recreate the book files (be careful with TOC, IX and other generated files - you have to recreate, not add, these to book) in the target folder or do some spelunking in a .mif version of the .book to adjust the path on the "<FileName" entry of each book component. [This sounds like a job for Framescript... ;-) ] 4. If the names of the .book files are not the names that you want to have on the final PDF files, then change the .book filenames to what you want before creating the PDFs. When the .book files are open for creating PDFs, FM will use the .book filename for the target in cross-book links. Let FM always handle the naming, otherwise you run a very good chance of breaking cross-book links. 5. If you are producing the PDFs as individual files of the component .fm files in the book, then things are a bit trickier. You have to do each component file, one at a time and have the target .book file open when going down this route. It won't work as you expect when trying to print using the "*" directive for the multiple files at once. IIRC, there was a plug-in from Mekon quite a while ago that fixed this situation for FM5 and 6. I don't know if it's needed now, as I tend to avoid the SaveAs PDF route in the newer versions, so I haven't tested this issue with FM8 or FM9. I hope this helps clarify some things. And the grand master of all things FM to PDF (Shlomo Perets) may be all over this if I've got something wrong or have outdated advice. In that case, never mind...

Weird Cross Dissolve From Video to Image Causes Video to Fade Left!!

Hello.
Since the snippet of video was not long enough I had to extend time by creating a still frame. That part worked great. No issues.
However once I added the cross dissolve going from the video to the image and then again from the image ot the next video snippet -- it fadically shifts the frame of the video going left as it fades.

Where you see the rear of the jeep and the tag line "Adios Alaska".
It's my first ever video edit so don't laugh. It's the best I could do given all the garage I hd to work with.
Any other suggestions are appreciated too.

What I do is extend my 2nd and 3rd track clips beyond the cut point, then disable the right side of the cut on tracks 2 and 3.
I then line up the dissolve across the three tracks. This works great, especially if I want to maintain the continuity of the disabled tracks for later use.
I use different methods depending on how much work I want to do, what I have available in front of me and any other effects at that particular point in time.

Cross dissolve and still frame problem

Sorry for reposting this issue but I am still have problems. In fact, it is extremely frustrating and I don't know why.
I am using FCP X 10.0.8 and when I try to add cross dissolves to some still frames it will not allow me.
I get the following error msg.
The Japanese error msg says that there is insufficient media length outside the clip edge to make a transition. And it asks whether I want to make a ripple trim to the media in order to make the transition. It says that if I decide to do so then the overall project duration will be shortened. However, even if I decide to do the later it will not let me make the cross dessolve.
As you can see there should be enough length outside the clip edge to allow this. Or am I misleading myself in this view?
According to me - and I know that I am a sheer novice at this, there should be enough media length to allow the transition. This is happening in not only cross dissolves but any other dissolve which I attempt to add. The problem seems to be intermittent or varies. If I replace the still frame then sometimes it will allow the transition but effects subsequent frames. Either putting in "flash" or bogus frames - even just a black frame. These I can only detect when I expand the timeline to the very limit. And on some occassions there is nothing whatsoever that seems to be blocking the adding of the cross dissolve. This will be the 3rd time which I have had to restart the project and it is getting rather annoying, not to say that I am approaching the time limit which is adding even more pressure.
Can you suggest what the problem is and how I should go about rectifying it please? Is anybody else having the same issue?

This is what I see but it doesn't quite make sense to me. One, I don't know why there should be two AUDIO01 files showing. The still frame which I am trying to add the crossover to is FRTOTSUKA. It will allow me to add to the end but not to the start. The same is happening with a couple of other frames. If I add one to the start it won't allow me to add it to the end.

Since updating to v.3.4.5 adjustment brushes no longer work? Please help??

I have just updated to Aperture 3.4.5.
Annoyingly the adjustment brushes and sliders such as "straighten" no longer work. They are added to my adjustments panel when I select them from the drop-down menu, but are accompanied by the sound of the dreaded apple beep (suggesting something is wrong) and do not change the cursor into the appropriate tool, thus preventing me from carrying out these particular adjustments.
If someone has any solutions for this problem, it would be greatly appreciated!

Test again in a different user account with a small test library. Does it still not work for a different user after reinstalling?

is it possibly something to do with an incombatiability between the new update and a plug-in?

Many videos from iPhone that were in iPhoto no longer work and all have lost their thumbnails. It won't let me import videos at all now.

After installing Yosemite many of the videos I had in iPhoto won't play at all. All the videos (including missing ones) now have dashes around a thumbnail shape instead of the thumbnails that were there. When I click on the thumbnail shape of any of the ones it won't play it says "The operation couldn't be completed (OSStatus error -54.)" These are videos that were there in Mavericks before I installed Yosemite and worked fine then. Also now I am unable to import any videos from my iPhone or my desktop, even ones that it took before. It says the file is an unrecognized format.
What I want to know is - is this on purpose? Did Apple suddenly withdraw all support for videos in iPhoto and in the process destroy the ones that were there or is something wrong with my system? Do other people see thumbnails and are able to play videos and import new ones in iPhoto in Yosemite? I wouldn't be surprised if something is wrong with my system since after upgrading to Yosemite ALL the thousands of carefully organized songs in my iTunes playlists were missing and I don't think that was on purpose but the fact that I can't import new videos makes me think this is on purpose.
If this is on purpose, if iPhoto on Yosemite is really no longer able to take videos what can I use instead? In iPhoto my many videos were organized into folders and subfolders and sub-sub folders. I can't do that in iTunes and also can't adjust thumbnail size in iTunes so videos take up way too much space there. Any suggestions on third party programs that will let me organize videos into folders and subfolders, etc and see thumbnails at small sizes? I just need to be able to organize the videos and click them to play.

I noticed this morning a lot of the thumbnails were back that weren't there last night. It must have very slowly been bringing them back, but the videos that would not play at all were still not working and there were still quite a few without thumbnails. I followed your suggestion and I'm amazed! That actually fixed everything! Now all the thumbnails are back, the videos that wouldn't play at all now work fine, and iPhoto let me import the videos that it wouldn't last night . I hope it stays like that but at least I know what to do if this happens again, if I dare to install any updates.
What does holding down the option key with launching the program do? I might need to use this again or with other programs.

Rented a movie from iTunes, playback has stopped and no longer works.

Today I rented and downloaded a movie from the iTunes store. Got about 5 minutes into it and the playback froze.... I tried to fast forward... Nothing. Tried to rewind. Nothing. So I closed iTunes completely and reopened. Now when I try to play the rental, I just get a black screen. I don't want to waste $4.

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista but my iTunes will no longer work. It says file can not be located when I try to play a song.

I recently upgraded my operating system from Vista to Windows 7. Ibacked up all of my music on an external hard drive before I reformatted my computer. I have reloaded iTunes several times and attempted to transer my files back to my computer. Everything appears to transfer but once I remove the external hard drive I get a message stated file cannot be located. What am I doing wrong?

Is anyone having problems with the new Xerox printer driver update from Apple? My 8700S is no longer working with QuarkXPress.

I allowed a System Update that included a Xerox Printer update. I am running a MacPro 10.6.8 with Quark 8.5.1 and a Xerox ColorQube 8700S. EVERY was working perfectly before the "update" but afterwards anything sent to the printer from Quark would stall the printer. I went to the Xerox website and downloaded their Printer Driver and tried again. Now I could print from Quark but I can NOT get to the printer window to change the type of paper, etc. So, the problem still persists.
Should I try going into Time Machine and trying to find the Xerox Print Driver in the Library folder?
Should I upgrade the whole system software? (I wouldn't mind doing that AFTER I get this magazine off to the commerical printer)
Should I upgrade to Quark 9?
Any help here would be apprciated.

As a general rule of thumb, I never install updates until I read its info and I am having problems with my current software. I hide the updates until I need them. Usually this happens when I update or upgrade my os. I don't fix what ain't broken is my golden rule.
It is possible that you need to update or upgrade Quark in order for your newer printer driver to work. First I would try the following....
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer.
Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
Click Repair Disk.
Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963 and restart your computer.
If your printer does not work afterwards, update or upgrade Quark. If that does not work, contact the printer manufacturer.

How or from where can I recover my bookmarks from a bugged computer where Firefox no longer works?

My computer acquired some kind of virus or other malware and after various stops and starts Firefox does not start when I run the .exe and IE crashes on start. Regardless, I've decided to reformat, but want to salvage my bookmarks from Firefox. I cannot get into Firefox to save my bookmarks for export-- what do I need to do or what files do I need to copy in order to be able to access my bookmarks after the reformat?

The first method returns an error.
The second method: there only seems to be one profile in appdata, and this is with everything unhidden. I can see some larger files, with a date and time which I last used when my browser/computer were in working order. One of these is an places.sqlite, size is around 82,000KB, a webappsstore.sqlite which is around 35,000KB. I opened the first one with wordpad and even though it's mostly nonsense, some of the text does make itself out to be sites I would have previously visited. Which corresponds to which and how do I import them? Also, if this is an new profile, why do I have old information in it?
For the third, I'm pretty sure there is nothing of the kind. Part of the problem, however, is that when I switched on my computer and the browser was wiped, many of the shortcuts were missing, despite being assigned to desktop if I went looking for their location.

I don't know if it's possible to downgrade to an older version of iOS once you've updated. I know a lot of people have asked and if memory serves me right, I don't think it's possible...at least not without some tech skills and the risk voiding your warranty...

15 frame or 1/2 second cross dissolve

I want to cut the duration of my cross dissolves from 30 frames to 15 frames. I highlight the length of the cross dissolve video transition and make the change, but after I leave the duration box it reverts back to 30 frames or one second.
Is there anyway to edit the duration of the cross dissolve?
