Cross-Document Links

Good Afternoon,
Is there any way to use Cross-Document links in the Adobe Reader Touch App?
I have a huge manual that i use day to day, it would be quite handy to be able to use this documetn on the Windows Surface 2 with thr Adobe Reader Touch.
As of right now i have not found any way to do this with Adobe Reader Touch.
If it isn't possible right now will it be possible in a future release.

Thanks for the info, Shlomo. I've now spotted the relevant text in the 8.0.2 release notes; that is, that PDF links created in Distiller 8 now work in Acrobat Reader 7. I must have missed it before.
With some new testing I can confirm that cross-document links also now work when the PDF file is viewed in xpdf.
However, cross-document links in Linux Reader 8.1.2 still give intermittent errors that are frequent enough to make any link intensive navigational documents practically unusable. I suspect this particular part of the problem is a Linux Reader 8 issue and not a Frame issue. But at least Linux users can now use Reader 7 or xpdf until Reader 8 gets fixed.

  • Forcing "Open cross-document links in same window" to be unchecked

    Hi All,
I am distributing a PDF document set where there is one PDF with well over a hundred links to other PDFs which are located in sub-folders.
The set will be distributed on USB thumb drives.
It will be simplest for users if they have "Open cross-document links in same window" unchecked.
Is there a way I can "force" it to be unchecked?
During a test, someone got a security warning: "This document is trying to access abcd.pdf" Allow/Block. Why are they getting that message when there is no Internet request?
Thanks very much for all thoughts and wisdom,
    David

It works in an older version 6.0
Anyone know how to get this to work in the newer versions?

  • Temporarily disable cross-document links in PDF

I am working on a series of PDF files that have cross-document links to other PDF files embedded.  What I would like is to temporarily disable the links from opening the cross-document link until I am ready to activate the link and open that specific PDF.
I am familiar with the "Open cross-document links in same window" feature in the Preferences - General tab; however, this does not temporarily disable the links (only toggles how the PDF is opened - same window or new window).
Is there a setting in Reader to temporarily disable these links or possibly a keystroke combination (ctrl + __) ?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,

{Sigh)...I was hoping there was a way, but it looks like I am stuck with the links being always active.
    Thank you,

  • Back button from cross-document link shows Security Settings pane

I have a PDF with many cross-document links (links to page views in another PDF within the same folder). When users have these set to open in the same window, the expected actions occur: the source document closes (or appears to close) and the destination document opens to the chosen page view. However, once we password protect the PDFs, we notice an odd behavior. When the Back button is used to get back to the source document, it takes the user back to the appropriate spot; however, if the user had their bookmarks pane open in the source document, the Security Settings pane is open instead when Back is used.
    So, to summarize:
    - Cross-document link from source doc to destination doc, preference set for these to open in the same window.
    - Source doc and destination doc both password protected.
    - Initial view setting for both docs is Bookmarks Panel and Page.
    - User has bookmarks pane open in source doc, clicks on cross-document link.
    - Source doc closes, destination doc opens as desired.
    - User presses Back button.
    - Destination doc closes, source doc reopens to the appropriate location - but bookmarks pane is now replaced by the Security pane.
We'd really like to find a way to avoid this; this is a pretty useless pane to have open and the structure of these docs means that users are frequently going to view them with their bookmarks open. Is this a bug? Is there a setting I can dig for? We think it's not happening in Acrobat 9 (I can't confirm, but this is what my client  has said) but is happening in 10 and 11, and also in the current version of Reader.
    Can anyone shed any light?

Remember that here you have of community of fellow end-users. Not the Acrobat Engineering team eh.
afaik - It is build in behavior. Similar to defaulting to display of the pages thumbnail pane in the navigation panel when an "insert" page is done.
There is a certain logic to it so it may have been deliberate. As an end-user I'm not appreciative of such. Some "developer staged user assistance" I can do without.

  • Display cross-references' linked documents filename in the xref panel

Our company creates technical manuals consisting of five chapters, all named the same, except with a different prefix. For example the "ABC Widget" manual has an introduction chapter named "ABC 1 - Introduction", a safety chapter named "ABC 2 - Safety", etc. Many times I re-use documents for creating subsequent manuals using the "Save As" command. So the "ABC 1 - Introduction" chapter would be saved as "EFG 1 - Introduction" for the "EFG Widget" book. For all the internal xrefs it saves a whole lot of time since all of the xrefs are preserved. But for cross-document references it creates a problem. For example, if the "ABC 1 - Introduction" chapter has a xref to "ABC 2 - Safety", when I save the Introduction chapter as "EFG 1 - Introduction" it will still retain the xref to "ABC 2 - Safety".
Right now, the only way to see if there are xrefs pointing to latent docs, is to check each one manually. If the xref panel displayed a column indicating the filename of the linked documents, I would be able to tell at a glance if that xref was pointing to the wrong document.
    Thank you.

    Hi Van,
I fear, I expressed myself not very clear. I try again.
We have DITA structured documents. However, lastest status often was saved in the FM document. The xml documents often are not representing the final status.
When I open the FM8 document in FM9 everything looks pretty good.
But: When I want to save the document as xml with FM9, I'm getting errors regarding the cross references.
The cross references which were created in FM8 - doesn't matter, if a valid xml document or a FM document - always look the same.
(BTW: I don't think that in structured documents cross references always refer to elemts with a unique ID.)
example from xml which was created with FM8:
    <xref href = "#id08B4A0R30E9" type = "fm:Chapter">"..."</xref>
the only difference in the FM document is that the element is called fm-xref there, as it's not an external url.
in FM9 those cross references are totally different.
example from xml which was created in FM9:
    <xref href = "#id08B4A0R30E9" class = "- topic/xref">"..."</xref>
When saving the FM documents with the cross references from the first example as xml in FM9 (we don't have FM8 anymore), I get an error that the attribute type is not defined.
When having a xml document that was last changed with FM8 and opening/ saving this with FM9, there is no error.
At the moment I do not know how to solve this issue.
And also I'm not sure weather the same problem might accour again with change from FM9 to FM10 or else.
It is a great effort to make new cross references just because we upgraded from FM8 to FM9. (And of course always at most inconvienent time.)
As we are thinking of upgrading to FM10, it would be good to know before, if there are any similar issues to expect.
Or if there is an fix for FM9 or FM10 to avoid this at all.
    Regards,
    Anna

  • Text Insets and Cross Reference Links

When I use text insets to produce a host file from my source file, I have cross reference links that update OK. However, once I produce a PDF of the host file (text inset), my links do not work. I do not even get the little hand icon to indicate they are links. I am producing my PDFs using File/Save As PDF and the first checkbox on the Links tab is checked. Is this a problem using text insets?

Unfortunately, that's the way insets work in FM. Cross-refs within an inset do not automatically become active. If you convert the inset to text, then the links are made. I believe that Rick Quatro wrote a Framescript to handle this in an automated way.
The manual way to do this, is to make a copy of the book - using Bruce Foster's Archive utility is the way to go: see http://home.comcast.net/~bruce.foster/Archive.htm
Then use the Edit > Text Inset Properties > Convert... > All insets to embed the insets into the documents (you have to do this on a file by file basis); regenerate/update the book file and only then create your output.

  • InDesign cross-document Text Anchor Hyperlinks

I’m combining several InDesign files into one PDF, with several hundred text links across the different sections, as well as within each. The cross-document (section) Text Anchor Hyperlinks work fine in my workspace - but when I change the file location, they are no longer active (other links, bookmarks remain intact).
How do I set up InDesign cross-document Text Anchor Hyperlinks so that when the files are moved, they remain active?

  • Cross-file links failing under Linux

    (Cross-posted to FrameUsers list)
    FM 9 p250 on WinXP Pro SP3
    Acrobat Pro Extended 9.3.2
I am  struggling with links across PDF files.  They all work in Windows, but  some work and some don't under Red Hat Enterprise 4 Linux.
I am  using the following directory structure to create a hierarchy of "menu"  pages with links to other PDFs:
    C:\nCode Desktop 6.0 ISR2\nCode  Desktop 6.0 ISR2\source_docs\contents\Draft for .fm files and .book  files; C:\nCode Desktop 6.0 ISR2\nCode Desktop 6.0  ISR2\source_docs\contents\Draft\graphics for graphics.
There are  about 50 other directories for PDF documents (they are what you arrive  at using the menus), one for each .book and .fm file set, with a path  such as C:\nCode Desktop 6.0 ISR2\nCode Desktop 6.0  ISR2\source_docs\designlifetheory\draft.  This creates  designlifetheory.pdf. There are crosslinks to other pdfs from within  some of these files.
For the Contents "menus", I have created one  book per menu. Menus are a  single page long.
All of the books create single pdfs (i.e., not  multiple files per book). The books are all output to a single  directory, C:\nCode Desktop 6.0 ISR2\nCode Desktop 6.0  ISR2\Deliverables.
I am using the newlink and gotolink  commands.  The newlink commands are all on master pages.  The gotolink  commands are all on body pages. A typical gotolink would be "gotolink  map_of_help.pdf:helpmap".  This one seems to fail consistently on Linux.  I have tried using "gotolink map_of_help.fm:helpmap", which also  fails.  Should I be using ".fm" instead of ".pdf" in the link?
The  .pdfs are created using Print to Adobe PDF.  The PDF Setup is Settings:  Standard Job Options, View Generated PDF in Acrobat, Convert CMYK  Colors to RGB; Bookmarks: Generate PDF Bookmarks; Tags: Generate Tagged  PDF; Links: Create Named Destinations for All Elements and Paragraphs.
I  have tried placing all the books in a single directory using Save As,  with all the paths relative, and books open, and with books closed.  I  have tried dumping all the .fm files and .book files into the same  directory. I have tried outputting to various directories.  I have  combed the archives, and tried to follow Shlomo's training module on  "FrameMaker Books & Cross-File Links."
I don't seem to get  it, whatever it may be.
Any help for this newbie appreciated.

    Your links look okay, directory-wise.
A link would be traversing the root directory if, say, the document is in some subdirectory below C:\nCode Desktop 6.0 ISR2\ and the target was in, say, C:\nCode Masters 6.0 ISR2\....blah blah or on a different disk.
One other thing: Maybe it's just me and my UNIX background, but using spaces in pathnames or filenames just feels like you're asking for trouble, especially if you want the end product to be portable to other platforms.
If the links are relative and they work on Windows, as you say they do, then my guess is that Reader on Linux is the problem. Try viewing them using xpdf on Linux and see if the links work then.
As matter of fact, I issue a very large manual set (69 manuals with approximately 400,000 links) for my Linux customers, and some time ago I abandoned Reader 8.1.2 on Linux in favour of xpdf because I didn't have the time to wait for a fix. The truth is, the links in Reader 6.0 didn't work either, and I was fed up with having to test every new Reader version that came out to see if it actually worked.
I'd be interested to know if you trace the problem to Reader on Linux, and if you find a Reader version later than 8.1.2 on Linux that works.

They seem to be a lot of extra work, and I don't see what the additional benefit is. I have several hundred links to do. I would appreciate learning what the benefit is, as I don't mind the extra effort if it will deliver the desired results.

  • Is it possible to delete all cross-reference links in a PDF at once?

I have a 577 page PDF with multiple cross-references on each page.
Unfortuntely, this causes the document to load pages VERY slowly on my iPad.
Is it possible to delete these cross-reference links in one shot, rather than one by one?
I am using Acrobat 9.5, if it matters.
I tried Advanced - Document Processing - Remove All Links
    But it didn't touch them.
    Thanks

A simple, but not typically recommended to do this is simply print the PDF to a new PDF. The printing process will eliminate all such markup, including bookmarks. There may be a preflight script to do this or might even be possible with the PDF Optimizer (think I remember such an option, but can't check on this machine).

  • Add new document link not working in upgraded sharepoint 2013?

    Hello there,
Upgraded SharePoint team sites from 2010 to 2013. add new document link not working for shared document in upgraded sharepoint 2013?. it is specially not working on machine where Office web apps set up with this sharePoint server and it
is working fine with environment  Office web apps not configured with Sharepoint.
Looking resoluion /suggestion, thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Sushil

    Hi  Sushil,
According to your description, my understanding is that the add new document link was not working on machine where Office web apps set up with this SharePoint server after you upgraded SharePoint team sites
    from 2010 to 2013.
For your issue, it can be caused by integrating Office Web Apps with upgraded SharePoint Site.
Firstly please make sure claims-based authentication is used by the SharePoint web application that is used to create the new document. Only web applications that use claims-based authentication can open
files in Office Web Apps. To determine the authentication provider for a web application, follow these steps:
1.In SharePoint 2013 Central Administration, click Manage web applications.
2.Select the web application that you want to check, and click Authentication Providers on the ribbon.
The authentication provider must be displayed as Claims Based Authentication for Office Web Apps to work correctly with the web application. To resolve this issue, you can delete the web application and recreate
it using claims-based authentication, or you can change the authentication method of the web application.
Secondly, make sure the WOPI zones match on the SharePoint 2013 and the Office Web Apps Server farm.
To do this, run the following command on the SharePoint Server:
    Get-SPWopiZone
The result will be one of the following:.
    internal-https
    internal-http
    external-https
    external-http
Next, run the following command on the SharePoint Server.
    Get-SPWOPIBinding
In the output, look for WopiZone: zone. If the results from Get-SPWopiZone don’t match the zone that is returned by Get-SPWOPIBinding, run the Set-SPWOPIZone -Zone cmdlet on the SharePoint Server to change
the WOPI zone to match the result from Get-SPWOPIBinding.
If not work, you can try to disconnect SharePoint 2013 from Office Web Apps Server and re-configure Office Web Apps for SharePoint 2013.

  • BI Report in Web UI - Cross Navigational Link

    HI Gurus,
I made the neccessary customizing settings in CRMC_UI_NBLINKS to display my BI reports in the CRM Web-UI.
Now I want to use the 'Cross Navigational links for InfoObjects' to be able to navigate from a BI report to a CRM UI component.
I am using a report about activity partners (0BP_ACTIVIT/0BPARTNER).
My settings in CRMC_UI_NBLINKS for this report:
    InfoObject: 0BP_ACTIVIT
    Navigational Link ID: Z_XXX
    Seq.: 1
    Object Type: BP_ACCOUNT
    Object Action: B Display
    Text: BP Link
However in the context menu on the report I do not see any 'BP link'. I tried 3.x and 7.x web templates and 3.x and 7.x queries, no luck.

  • Open Document Link on PO Approval WF

In the PO Approval Workflow, if you have the proper responsibility, an "open document" link is displayed that, when clicked, takes the user to a screen entitled "Notifications to Releases".
This function is available to our Purchasing Super User responsibility but is not available for the Purchasing Approver responsibility. I'm trying to change that.
Using help, I determined that the form associated with "Notifications to Releases" is POXPOERL. That form is assocated with the following functions and menus:
    FORM_NAME     FUNCTION_NAME     MENU_NAME
    POXPOERL     PO_POXPOERL     CHV_CHVSSWKB_FUNCTIONS
    POXPOERL     PO_POXPOERL     PO_POXSTNOT_FUNCTIONS
    POXPOERL     PO_POXPOERL     PO_POXPOVPO_FUNCTIONS
    POXPOERL     PO_POXPOERL     PO_PURCHASE_ORDERS_GUI
    POXPOERL     PO_POXPOERL     POS_INTERNAL_HP_MENU
    POXPOERL     PO_POXPPOERL_VIEW     PO_POXSTNOT_FUNCTIONS
    POXPOERL     PO_POXPPOERL_VIEW     PO_REQUESTOR_GUI
    POXPOERL     PO_POXPPOERL_VIEW     PO_POXPOERL_FUNCTIONS
    POXPOERL     PO_POXPPOERL_VIEW     PO_POXBWVRP_FUNCTIONS
I've tried, under Functional Developer, to add several of these to the menu for Purchasing Approver. When they show up on the menu and I click them, I get a message stating: "You are not setup as a buyer. To access this form you need to be a buyer."
All I want is for people to be able to see and use the "Open Form Command". Am I going about this the wrong way?

I was probably not clear enough in my original question.
We want people who are approvers - but not necessarily buyers - to be able to open the form from the link. I'm not set up as a buyer, but I have the Purchasing Superuser responsibility and I can open the form.
I guess, bottom line... some more information on how to make links to eBiz forms work from WF would be helpful. I've not found much in the Oracle-supplied documentation that we have; I've read what's in the Developer's Guide and the Admin guide. Can anyone suggest a web link or two that might shed more light on the process?

    Dear friends
    It's solved.
Just add Purchasing responsibilty to that user to whom  that "open document link " is not visible in the notification.
