Cross-Fade, BLend, Overlay?

What-ever-you call it, how do i blend 2 clips - end of one and the start of one, so that they overlap on screen?
This is for F.C.E. 4...
I am used to a sony vegas program (PC), where one drags one clip on top of the other in the timeline in order for this to occur.
:>

Are you talking about adding a transition? Put the two clips, butted up to each other in line on one track. Select the edit point and from the Effects menu go to Video Transitions and pick one. Or press Cmd-T for the default one second cross dissolve.

  • 3 questions: Shake 2 shuffle; keyboard "response" feature & cross fade????

Is there something I need to do to make the keyboard typing "response" feature activate when I'm typing? I was under the impression that you're supposed to be able to feel something when you're typing. Also, is there something I need to do to make the shuffle feature work when I shake the touch? Nothing seems to happen when I shake it and I can't see what I need to adjust in the setting to make this work. Lastly, how can I set the cross fade feature this new model is supposed to have? Thanks guys!

Cross fade is not the same as gapless...there was always a feature in itunes where you could have the end of the song that was playing slowly decrease in volume and it would "blend" into the next upcoming song whose volume was slowly increasing. They would "fade" into each other. I loved that feature in iTunes, but it wasn't available on my Nano. Now I understand that this feature is available, but I find it hard to beleive they would put it into the Nano and not the touch.
Ah, I got your point! Well, this option is not available on the iPod Touch, nor I'm sure it's also available for the iPod Nano. Who told you that?

Ah, first I thought you were talking about having difficulties to something using the iPod's keyboard!
Now, I understand you're talking about the "Keyboard Clicks", which for at least on iPhone can be activated/de-activated. I don't have the iPod Touch anymore, but search on Settings for a Sound category!

  • Cross fades not working in flex mode.

    Hey there,
i have an audio region in Logic Pro X (latest update) that's using the flex pitch mode. When I want to cross fade it with another region, it just doesn't work. Seems to be a bug or am I wrong?
    Greetings,
    R. Philipp

Me too. Does the fade tool move your region las if you just had the cursor selected?
Looks like there are quite a few threads on this topic to check out.

  • How can I set up cross fade to automatically trim files ?

How can I set up cross fade to automatically trim the two files to size when fading between them? Thanks

Hi, thanks for the reply. What I meant was that in Pro Tools, you can highlight an area between two tracks and crossfade. Then the files are exactly trimmed automatically so there is no excess overlap of the edges of both files. In Logic it seems to leave the overlap, and this can be a problem when you accidently click the wrong place and the underlying file is bought to the front, changing the crossfade area. I wish it to trim the excess so there is no danger of the lower file edges coming forward.

  • Cross fade in a folio (CS6)

My company is 2 years behind the DPS curve (and by extension, so am I) so I apologize if this seems like a dumb question.
I'm building a folio in CS6 and would like to create a cross fade from one article to another.
    I have a 4-second intro video
I want it to run automatically when the folio is opened
When it finishes I want it to cross fade into the cover of the folio
Is there a way to do this?
It doesn't have to be separate articles, it could be MSO's if that's a better way, as long as it doesn't reload the video when someone goes back to the cover.
I just haven't found a description on how I can cross fade from an entire (1024 x 768) layout to another.
Any help would be appreciated (even a "hey dummy, it's over <here>").

    Moved to DPS forum.
There is no way to do this without having the video play again when the cover is reloaded.

  • Can't Drag & Drop Cross Fade Transition ?

I'm a new user and can't figure out why when I attempt to drag and drop a cross-fade transition into my timeline it won't stick or apply. Can anybody help with this. Also, is there a setting that would automatically apply the cross-fade transition to all clip joining points in the timeline ?

The second techniques assumes there are handles available to create the transition overlap.

  • How can I get cross fade/dissolve of both audio and video?

I want to centre the coss fade/dissolve transition on the clip boundary.  I can do this with the video cross dissolve but not the audio cross fade - for the audio, the Alignment facility in the Edit transition is greyed out and the transition can only be located to the left or right of the clip boundary.  It seems an obvious requirement and surprising that audio cross fade is not, optionally at least, an integral part of the video cross dissolve (as it is in Corel VideoStudio).

Steve - thanks for the reply.
Yes I am working in Timeline mode and have done what you suggest - i.e., drag in the video transition followed by the audio transition.  However, despite my original update to the question, I now cannot centre the audio transition on the clip boundary - it worked once as reported but not since.
Basically when I drag the audio cross fade transition on to the timeline, it will only let me drop it to the left or right of the clip boundary.  I then hightlight the transition and click on the edit transition button.  The properties are displayed and I can alter the length of the transition but the wording in the alignment row of the properties is greyed out with the setting being "End at cut".  The down arrow head to give the drop down with the other settings is grey and inactive.
I don't understand how I made it work once!
    Any ideas?

  • Can someone tell me how many seconds the cross fade is when running your nano in that mode? I teach spin class and want to know how much time I'm losing in that mode.

can someone tell me how many seconds the cross fade is when running your Ipod 6th Gen nano in that mode? I teach spin class and want to know how much time I'm losing in that mode.

You aren't losing any time in that mode, but I believe it is a 10 second fade out/fade in.

    Audio is dropping out ....
I was given a project to make some changes to and every time I open it I need to recreate the cross fades and then export it and then check it and then recreate the cross fades that didn't export and then hope for the best!!

Please check this blog post. Updating from Time Machine can cause this issue: Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later).

  • Audio Cross Fade

Newbie with FCE so thanks in advance. I am trying to add an audio Cross Fade. Following Apple Pro Training book: Placed play head before edit point. Clicked on edit point on a1 track and point becomes highlighted on both audio tracks (and video track). Then chose Cross Fade (tried both). Problems: the Cross Fade icon does not appear on tracks. I also tried to drag and drop but if I do that the highlight disappears with no cross fade icon appearing. FYI when marking the highlight point the vid track also highlights unlike the photo in instruction book. Both audio tracks are unlocked as is vid track. I am on a MacBook Pro and have already done some experimental vids that have worked but have not worked with transitions yet.
    Thanks again.
PS Hoping I won't have same problem with vid transitions

Open the clips into the viewer and check to see if you have handles to create the overlap for the transition.

  • Audio edit not working. Can't cross fade

Suddenly when I attempt to select the end of one audio track and the beginning of the other, it does not become high lighted as usual and I can't apply a cross fade.
I never had this problem before and it suddenly appeared. If I double click I get an option for a Trim Edit, but that is not what I want to do.
How can I simply click on the audio edit and apply the audio cross fade??
    Thanks!!

In FCP, go to the menu Sequence > Render and make sure all the conditions are checked.
Do the same for Render All:

  • Cross-fade effect missing from transition effects

I used to export slide-shows from image folders with QuickTime, and on Tiger and PowerMac PPC G4 that worked fine choosing cross-fade transitions.
There was also the possibility to export slide-shows with Graphic Converter (using QuickTime effects), and the cross-fade transition was available.
Now, with Leopard and QuickTime 7.5 the cross-fade (aka dissolve transition) is missing from the transition effects. Is that a bug ? Is there a way to recover that transition effect ? I re-installed QuickTime, but that didn't changed things.
    Thanks for any input...
    N.

I still have my PowerMac G4 with all things installed, so I checked in QuickTime the slide-show export, and it doesn't have options for transitions in the effects. Oups !
So I guess it's only related to Graphic Converter 5.9.5 where in the transitions the cross-fade isn't available anymore when I upgraded to Leopard. Maybe I should upgrade Graphic Converter.
Anyway, thanks for the iPhoto tip, but I can't find where I can change the default settings...

  • Adding cross fade reveals bit of footage I thought was razored off !

    Hi,
    Premiere Pro CS3
If I go frame by frame with cursor at the end of my video I see only the footage I expect. Lets call it clip C.
If I add black video at end of my footage and play timeline, I still see nothing extra beyond my video of Clip C, my footage ends abruptly and the black shows, but if I cross fade the junction then play, I see a bit of footage which followed on in the original recording on the camcorder (clip D) but was definitely cut off in this project, if frame by frame is anything to go by !
It certainly doesnt show when scrubbed or played prior to adding the cross fade. If I use Dip to Black instead of Cross fade on that video/blackVideo junction then it fades to black and no unwanted video shows up.
If I replace the black video with a video clip copy pasted from earlier in my sequence and cross fade the joint, then that bit of unwanted video (clip D)shows up again, fading out as the added clip fades in. As such if this was in the middle of my sequence I would be in trouble, but I can use dip to black at the end and not see it. As such though I need to know why I am seeing something not there until cross fade or similar is added.
Whats going on ? How can I be showing something that was razored off ? I never knew that was there prior to adding in the cross dissolve.
I also can see it if I use dither dissolve, and no doubt other transitions.
I have even dragged the cursor and whilst seeing a frame of Clip C, sliced the end off a bit more incase clip D was lurking in the end of my video, that should do the trick, but annoyingly its still there ! Remove the transition and it doesnt show.
    Why ?
    Envirographics

    Hi,
Bill's explanation is correct , and I recently had similar problem with fading in and out, using cs3 and I found I had to do a couple things...
    1) zoom all the way in on the timeline to see individual frames. Use "eye" icon to turn on and off tracks so you can see the one you want one at a time when necessary.
    2) do the cross dissolve or fades using your own keyframes ...rather than the effect , and move frame by frame using arrow keys and look at program monitor to make sure your keyframes are in the right place NOT to show any footage you dont want.
You could just adjust the keyframes of the effect cross dissolve but I find it easier just to do it manually... and make the dip angle of the transparency line similar to all your fades if you want that similarity...  In this sample its fades out and fades in, but if you stack the video you can fade one in as you fade the other out...which I find I have more control over than using the effect...but you can adjust the effect too if you want...
anyway, couple ways you can do it is the bottom line and you need to just scrub thru frame by frame to double check what you really have...and render it first...so its all green....no red in the cross dissolve areas...or you wont see whats really there....  the image shows all manual fades

  • Trying to format my QT movie with "apple photo" JPG using cross fade

Here's an example of what I'm trying to create: http://www.heese-cadieux.com/Home.html
I have QT pro, iWeb, and iPhoto, and many other editing programs.
I know how to make an image sequence, but not with cross fades, and my file size is still a bit big.
    Here's what I have so far: http://coreysheltonphotography.com/
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Corey.

Hiding the controller and creating a looping file are done with the html code:
controller="false" loop="true" (these tags are used in "embedded" QuickTime files). "Object" tags are used for Internet Explorer but the syntax is similar. Modern Web pages use javascript code for QuickTime files and combine both object/embed and the QT_WriteOBJECT code.
To create the file I linked above I did these steps:
"Borrowed" your source file (via QuickTime Player Pro).
Exported the six image files from that source (via QuickTime Player Pro).
Converted (reduced file size in the images) using GraphicConverter ($35).
Added your images to 5 seconds of audio (to give them "time"). This is different than converting to "video" as the single image file size is the same for the duration. I then "extracted" the new video track and saved as .mov format (Movie Properties window of QuickTime Player Pro).
I used samplemakeeffectmovie (not a typo) to "combine" two of these 5 second videos to add the "cross fade" effect. This is a developer PPC app I found years ago from Apple. 1998 and it still works on my Intel machine. It allows you to add transitions, compositors and effects (thousands of user created combinations) to two video files.
Once I created the six "videos" I joined them together (via QuickTime Player Pro) to make a single file (15 seconds in duration). I then added a royalty free audio track (converted from AIFF to AAC via QuickTime Player Pro) by adding the total .mov file (scaled) to the 30 second audio track. This brought the final "video" close to 30 frames per second (source was 15 fps).
What I proved is that QuickTime Player Pro can be an "authoring" application. I even wrote a book (PDF) that explains some of its possibilities.
Since I still don't own a "video" camera I've created my "movies" using still image files and QuickTime Player Pro. A few examples:
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/RedneckTexasXmas/index.html
The pink color was supposed to be transparent but the software didn't allow it.
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/03war/
Still images, layers, masks, audio and text to tell a story.
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/B/
Code that "calls" the QuickTime Player app (instead of the browser plug-in). Use the Command-f combo to enter full screen mode.

  • Massive bug by combining Shadow/Highlight and a cross fade

Hi. I found what appears to be a bug by using a cross fade between two clips with the shadow highlight effect. I cross faded two clips (240fps AVCHD from FS700) each with RGB Curves and Shadow/Highlight and sometimes I get this nasty side effect. The side effect is a random white flashing, or rather an erratic application of the shadow/highlight effect. Maybe it's because it is trying to process the effect on footage which is slowly losing opacity due to the cross fade, and as this happens, the colour data changes as a result. This effect may not happen outright when you try it, I think it applies to specific clips, or clips where the shadow number is higher than the highlights or vice versa. It is now happening again in my new edit and this worries me because I like the effect that it gives, but not the buggy side effect.
Here is the video where I first experienced it. It only appears to happen at 2:18, but now in my next video, it's happening in my opening shot.
    Rendering with gtx570 & pprocs6.

The problem occurs when two clips that both have Shadow/Highlight adjusment with different values are crossfaded. You get this light dark bands of flickering in the crossfade. It looks horrible.
SOMETIMES, disabling GPU acceleration works. Not always.
Setting the clipping amounts to 0, as opposed to the default of .01 will help with the clip flickering, but NOT the crossfade flikering. It will not help
Using Opacity keyframes as opposed to the Crossfade Video Transition Effect will not help.
The only sure  way to solve the problem is to make INTER clips. Render the two clips seperately with all shadow/highlight effects, then replace the clips on your timeline with the rendered clips and THEN crossfade them.
Also, for those of you that simply notice the "sky" in your scenes flickering when using Shadow/Highlight Adjustment, make sure to set at least the Black Clip from .01 to 0. This will stop that annoying flicker throughout the entire clip.
