Cross fade tool problems

I am wondering if anyone has had a problem with cross fades in logic pro, I am dealing with about 15 or so audio tracks, I have been mixing them for awhile using fades and cross fades and everything has been sounding and working great. all of a sudden no on some of the projects all the fades dont work, and at the point of the fade it brings in a messed up sound from another instrument, basically they all need to be redone, when I do redraw the fad it works again, but I am not looking forward to redrawing all the fades.
I have a feeling it may be my disk space getting packed up, but I still have about 17GB, thats the only thing I can think of that changed with my computer in the past few months.
Has anyone had this issue? any fixes for it?

It's not uncommon for fade files to become corrupted.
A couple of quick options when this happens...
Go to the songs folder, and locate the Fade file folder, and trash it. When you hit "play" again, the files will re-draw.
Or "Save As" under a slightly different title... like "Song Title 01, Song Title 02", etc... and when you hit play, the fade files will update and re-draw.
See if either of those options get things back on track, without you having to draw them all over again.

  • Fade Tool problems! help please!!

I've noticed that when I'm editing audio files and cut out silences, I'm left with a loud clicking noise. So to solve this problem, I used the fade tool (esc 0) and faded out the ending of every single region which took a ridiculous amount of time to do.
This solved the problem, but I'm wondering is there a way to have all recorded audio automatically have a fade at the end of the region? I know that in other programs such as Reaper this is a function that can be turned on or off but is there a way to do this in logic to save time?
    please help! thanks!

This is also where you turn normal fades into speed up/slow down fades (in L9) - click-hold on the word 'fade', and in general is a good thing to get in the habit of looking at.
For instance: Say you have drag mode set to X-fade, and you are dragging regions around and enjoying some automatic crossfading action. Great. Super. Now you decide this one particular region is not going to cross fade between two regions but is gonna be all by itself somewhere else. You still want to apply fades to it, but now they don't work with the fade tool. Look at the Inspector and you'll see that region has EqPower (or the abbreviation). So you have to change it to "out" and you're good to go.

  • Fade Tool Problem

Yet another confusion, sorry for prevailing upon you again AOS but I know you will have the answer. In the same project I had the loop problem, I am trying to use a fade on one region. The region is an audio track (live guitar) flattened and flex is off. I can make the fade graphic with the fade tool or in the inspector but I can't hear the fade. It is a simple long fade out and I have used this many times in the past. If I take all effects off I can hear the fade working so I guess it is the effects that are triggering after the fade. So my question is is there a simple way to use the fade tool and include the effects on the strip or do I have to use automation to get my fade?

Region fades and automation fades are slightly different animals. Both have their ups and downs. I have had trouble with region fades, too. If you have to use a region fade, here are some a few workarounds I have used when dealing with buggy region fades:
Use the delete All Fade Files command under the Mix Menu in Logic X. Close and reopen the song. This will force Logic to re-render the fades.
Drag the fade edge of the region slightly to change the region size.
Click to select the region. then manually enter the fade in the Region Inspector (Main Window, press I to show inspector, then click the disclosure triangle to show the Region Inspector, then click the More disclosure triangle.) You can enter the fade time in milliseconds (1000 ms = 1 sec). Yes, it's a lot of trouble to do it this way but you can shift+click multiple regions and apply a fade to all of them with this method; useful for multi-track/drum editing.
Occasionally. I have noticed that fades "disappear" from the regions. The inspector lets me check to see if they're still there and it's a display error. Save, close, re-open will usually fix it.

  • Fade Tool Problems... Grrr

I have recorded my guitar, added effects and I want to use the fade tool but when I add the fade, it has no effect on the audio. Does any one know what the story is?

I never said GB mode was an issue, that was just an aside.
The only time fades do not work on audio regions is if a Flex mode is enabled on the track. You'd have to turn on Flex View to check that.

  • Crossfade tool problem

I cannot get the cross fade tool to work. Again, like before I am following a video tutorial and all I see him doing is dragging a crossfade box over a audio sample that is being cut in2 regions. I don't know if he is using a keyboard shortcut at the same time. I checked the Logic manual and they also only mention dragging with the mouse, but nothing happens when I try this.
According to the manual I cannot do this on apple loops (not sure why), so I am using my own made audio sample. How than do I use this option?
    André

Have you actually selected the crossfade tool? Once you have it selected, then yes all you need to do is click and slide across the region to put in a fade. Make sure you drag from roughly where you want the fade to start, all the way past the end of the region (if you are doing a fade out), or across to the next adjacent region if doing a crossfade. Then (in Logic 9 at least), you'll see that the fade tool changes depending on where you hover over with your mouse, allowing you to adjust the length and positioning of the fade, as well as the curve.

  • Cross fade problems

    Hi there,
I would like to introduce a cross fade between two sequences.
I made sure I had enough cropping -- several tens of frames-- of the two sequences to allow cross fade.
What happens is that I still see briefly deleted frames on the final editing after rendering
What could I do wrong ? How can I avoid this problem ?
    Thanks in advance
    Ivan

    Any idea ?
Honestly? And I mean this in the kindest possible way ... my guess is user error.
Revisit what you have done. Have you added pad to your original sequences? Is it padded with black or with audio and video content? Have your trimmed the out point of the first nest far enough back to provide an adequate handle on the outgoing sequence? Have your trimmed the in point of the second nest far enough forward to provide an adequate handle on the incoming sequence? Have you checked that the two sequences are actually properly butted together with no gap so that the transition is happening between the two?

  • Having problems with the Fade Tool

I cannot get the fade tool to work. I don't know if I have some setting issue or I'm just plain dense. I drag it over the audio area and nothing happens. Any ideas?

    Few things...
Drag it over a standard audio file (Not apple loop, MP3...- but wav, Aif are OK)
Then cover the region and some of the background of the arrange.

  • How can I set up cross fade to automatically trim files ?

How can I set up cross fade to automatically trim the two files to size when fading between them? Thanks

Hi, thanks for the reply. What I meant was that in Pro Tools, you can highlight an area between two tracks and crossfade. Then the files are exactly trimmed automatically so there is no excess overlap of the edges of both files. In Logic it seems to leave the overlap, and this can be a problem when you accidently click the wrong place and the underlying file is bought to the front, changing the crossfade area. I wish it to trim the excess so there is no danger of the lower file edges coming forward.

  • Random audio cross fade (dissolve) rendering issue - bug?

    Hi, there -
I'm having the same issue as this guy, who it looks like never received a reply:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6536079&#6536079
    To quote:
"I've got a sequence with 18 moderately sparse tracks. When adding cross-fades, often audio from other tracks will randomly play during a transition after rendering. This is audio from other tracks at the same point in the sequence.
The same thing happens if I cut the audio in fresh from the source, copy the problem area into its own teeny sequence and try again, trash prefs, etc. It also plays back with the mystery tracks soloed or not."
The cross-fades play through fine as expected until rendered.
    Thanks!

Maybe I wasn't being entirely fair.
Most of the time, FCP does fine for what I need.
But when it chokes on something, I give it a few more tries then move on to something proven to work. (Troubleshooting can only last so long with looming deadlines.)
My guess is, if Final Cut comes bundled with programs like Motion and Soundtrack, that means there are probably going to be some things that FCP won't do particularly well on it's own.
Like we've said to the Avid die hards: These are just tools - use what works.
You can get a screw out with a pair of pliers, but it's a lot easier with a screwdriver. Err, unless the screw is stripped. But that just means there's a problem with your... media?

  • Cross fades not working in flex mode.

    Hey there,
i have an audio region in Logic Pro X (latest update) that's using the flex pitch mode. When I want to cross fade it with another region, it just doesn't work. Seems to be a bug or am I wrong?
    Greetings,
    R. Philipp

Me too. Does the fade tool move your region las if you just had the cursor selected?
Looks like there are quite a few threads on this topic to check out.

  • Audio Cross Fade

Newbie with FCE so thanks in advance. I am trying to add an audio Cross Fade. Following Apple Pro Training book: Placed play head before edit point. Clicked on edit point on a1 track and point becomes highlighted on both audio tracks (and video track). Then chose Cross Fade (tried both). Problems: the Cross Fade icon does not appear on tracks. I also tried to drag and drop but if I do that the highlight disappears with no cross fade icon appearing. FYI when marking the highlight point the vid track also highlights unlike the photo in instruction book. Both audio tracks are unlocked as is vid track. I am on a MacBook Pro and have already done some experimental vids that have worked but have not worked with transitions yet.
    Thanks again.
PS Hoping I won't have same problem with vid transitions

Open the clips into the viewer and check to see if you have handles to create the overlap for the transition.

  • Audio edit not working. Can't cross fade

Suddenly when I attempt to select the end of one audio track and the beginning of the other, it does not become high lighted as usual and I can't apply a cross fade.
I never had this problem before and it suddenly appeared. If I double click I get an option for a Trim Edit, but that is not what I want to do.
How can I simply click on the audio edit and apply the audio cross fade??
    Thanks!!

In FCP, go to the menu Sequence > Render and make sure all the conditions are checked.
Do the same for Render All:

  • Adding cross fade reveals bit of footage I thought was razored off !

    Hi,
    Premiere Pro CS3
If I go frame by frame with cursor at the end of my video I see only the footage I expect. Lets call it clip C.
If I add black video at end of my footage and play timeline, I still see nothing extra beyond my video of Clip C, my footage ends abruptly and the black shows, but if I cross fade the junction then play, I see a bit of footage which followed on in the original recording on the camcorder (clip D) but was definitely cut off in this project, if frame by frame is anything to go by !
It certainly doesnt show when scrubbed or played prior to adding the cross fade. If I use Dip to Black instead of Cross fade on that video/blackVideo junction then it fades to black and no unwanted video shows up.
If I replace the black video with a video clip copy pasted from earlier in my sequence and cross fade the joint, then that bit of unwanted video (clip D)shows up again, fading out as the added clip fades in. As such if this was in the middle of my sequence I would be in trouble, but I can use dip to black at the end and not see it. As such though I need to know why I am seeing something not there until cross fade or similar is added.
Whats going on ? How can I be showing something that was razored off ? I never knew that was there prior to adding in the cross dissolve.
I also can see it if I use dither dissolve, and no doubt other transitions.
I have even dragged the cursor and whilst seeing a frame of Clip C, sliced the end off a bit more incase clip D was lurking in the end of my video, that should do the trick, but annoyingly its still there ! Remove the transition and it doesnt show.
    Why ?
    Envirographics

    Hi,
Bill's explanation is correct , and I recently had similar problem with fading in and out, using cs3 and I found I had to do a couple things...
    1) zoom all the way in on the timeline to see individual frames. Use "eye" icon to turn on and off tracks so you can see the one you want one at a time when necessary.
    2) do the cross dissolve or fades using your own keyframes ...rather than the effect , and move frame by frame using arrow keys and look at program monitor to make sure your keyframes are in the right place NOT to show any footage you dont want.
You could just adjust the keyframes of the effect cross dissolve but I find it easier just to do it manually... and make the dip angle of the transparency line similar to all your fades if you want that similarity...  In this sample its fades out and fades in, but if you stack the video you can fade one in as you fade the other out...which I find I have more control over than using the effect...but you can adjust the effect too if you want...
anyway, couple ways you can do it is the bottom line and you need to just scrub thru frame by frame to double check what you really have...and render it first...so its all green....no red in the cross dissolve areas...or you wont see whats really there....  the image shows all manual fades

  • Massive bug by combining Shadow/Highlight and a cross fade

Hi. I found what appears to be a bug by using a cross fade between two clips with the shadow highlight effect. I cross faded two clips (240fps AVCHD from FS700) each with RGB Curves and Shadow/Highlight and sometimes I get this nasty side effect. The side effect is a random white flashing, or rather an erratic application of the shadow/highlight effect. Maybe it's because it is trying to process the effect on footage which is slowly losing opacity due to the cross fade, and as this happens, the colour data changes as a result. This effect may not happen outright when you try it, I think it applies to specific clips, or clips where the shadow number is higher than the highlights or vice versa. It is now happening again in my new edit and this worries me because I like the effect that it gives, but not the buggy side effect.
Here is the video where I first experienced it. It only appears to happen at 2:18, but now in my next video, it's happening in my opening shot.
    Rendering with gtx570 & pprocs6.

The problem occurs when two clips that both have Shadow/Highlight adjusment with different values are crossfaded. You get this light dark bands of flickering in the crossfade. It looks horrible.
SOMETIMES, disabling GPU acceleration works. Not always.
Setting the clipping amounts to 0, as opposed to the default of .01 will help with the clip flickering, but NOT the crossfade flikering. It will not help
Using Opacity keyframes as opposed to the Crossfade Video Transition Effect will not help.
The only sure  way to solve the problem is to make INTER clips. Render the two clips seperately with all shadow/highlight effects, then replace the clips on your timeline with the rendered clips and THEN crossfade them.
Also, for those of you that simply notice the "sky" in your scenes flickering when using Shadow/Highlight Adjustment, make sure to set at least the Black Clip from .01 to 0. This will stop that annoying flicker throughout the entire clip.

  • ITunes 7 Skipping Issue Fixed - Cross Fade Playback

Per the prior post by chiefhabeb, if your DMA settings are correct and your still experiencing skipping, do what mponzi suggested, completely disable the "Cross Fade Playback" feature in iTunes. (iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Playback) After updating my audio driver, making sure my DMA settings were correct, turning off iTune's "Sound Enhancer" feature and updating DirectX, I still had minimal but unacceptable skipping which was driving me crazy. Finally per mponzi's suggestion, disabling the "Cross Fade Playback" feature is what worked for me! SKIP FREE MUSIC THIS MORNING....FINALLY!!!!!!! Hope it works for everyone having the same annoying issue!

Per my earlier post - this really fixed the stuttering/skipping problem for me. Not one song has skipped all morning since disabling the cross fade playback. (Now if my videos would only playback like they used to.....have made several adjustments per troubleshooting iTunes Video playback and they are still stuttering and out of sync. Burned up enough time on iTunes issues. Will save the video playback problem for another day.
