Cross Forset Migration from sccm 2012 to sccm 2012RS

Hi all,<o:p></o:p>
We have a plan to migrate
sccm 2012 to sccm 2012 R2 on trusted forest (cross forest migration)<o:p></o:p>
Please share possibility...<o:p></o:p>
Thanks, Mariappan Shanmugavel

Possibility for what?
Migration only works from ConfigMgr 2007 SP2 or from the same version of ConfigMgr 2012 thus will not be able to migrate from 2012 to 2012 R2. You will need to upgrade your 2012 site to 2012 R2 first and then perform the migration. The TechNet docs clearly
show this: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg699364.aspx
ANd, as Torsten pointed out, if you are simply planning on moving the existing site server, that isn't supported and won't work either.

  • Cross platform migration from hp unix to sun

    Hi
recently we have done cross platform migration from hp unix to sun (10g R2 RAC +ASM). It was a challenging experience to complete the migration in 8 hours downtime for a database of about 2 TB.
I would like to share the experience , so that it would be hepfull to others and i would learn more new techniques for improvement .
    source environment:
    HP-UX -ITANIUM - 2 node RAC - 10g R2 - Oracle clusterware - ASM - Heavily loaded all the time .
    Destination Env:
    Sun solaris 10 - 2 node RAC - 10g R2 - Oracle Clusterware - ASM
Total Downtime available : 6 hours.
    Steps followed
    1. snapshot backup of source database on a intermediate HP-Unix box. (stage area)
    2. recover the database and start the rman image backup on to disk in stage area.
    3. mount this filesystem locally (Veritas ) on to one of the node in the destination env.
    4. Mount this filesystem as NFS on second node using a cross cable between both of them (we can use interconnect VLAN also here)
    5. Keep applying the archive logs from source env till the downtime .
    5. startup nomount the database , change the datafile names from ASM to RMAN image copy files and mount.
    6. start rman convert statements and pump into the already exisitng ASM nodes with parallel sessions as much as possible (with 35 sets (513 datafiles) we were able to pump 2 TB data in 4.5 Hrs) - only system and undo datafiles need a convert statements (platform migration ) others would need a file system to ASM conversion only.
    7. alter database open resetlogs in the destination environment.
    8. create services manually and start the application.
we were given very less time to decide upon this stategy , By gods grace we were able to complete it .
I got a doubt while we are chalking out this plan .
can we connect to ASM instance remotely and pump data from one ASM to another ASM. It seems it is not possible , just a wild thought.
Let me know if you see any more improvements in this.
    Thanks

  • Best practice for client migration from SMS 2003 to SCCM 2012 R2?

Can anyone advise what the most recommended method is for migrating SMS 2003 clients (Windows 7) to SCCM 2012 R2?
    Options are:
    1. SMS package to deploy ccmclean.exe to uninstall SMS 2003 client. Deploy SCCM 2012 R2 client via SCCM console push.
    2. Simply push SCCM client from console installing over existing SMS 2003 client.
I am finding some folks saying this is ok to do but others saying no it is not supported by Microsoft. Even if it appears to work I do not want to do it if it is not supported by Microsoft. Can anyone provide a definitive answer?
    3. Use a logon script or Group Policy preference to detect the SMS client and delete it using CCMclean and then install the SCCM client.
    Appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

    Hi,
    >>I am finding some folks saying this is ok to do but others saying no it is not supported by Microsoft. Even if it appears to work I do not want to do it if it is not supported by Microsoft. Can anyone provide a definitive answer?
I haven't seen any official document records the option 2 method. There is only upgrading from SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012 directly.
I think you could use a logon script or Group Policy preference to detect the SMS client and delete it using CCMclean.exe. Then use SCCM 2012 to discover these computers and push clients to them.

  • Does SCCM 2012 monitor SCCM 2007 as well?

I have a SCOM environment and I have two SCCM environments - one is 2007 and the other is 2012R2. We are migrating from 2007 to 2012R2. I have both SCCM 2007 and 2012 MPs imported.
One thing I've noticed is that all the objects from the 2007 MPs are labeled ConfigMgr 2007, while the objects from the 2012 MPs are just labeled ConfigMgr. And when I create a subscription to send all alerts on ConfigMgr (I filtered to only show objects
in Microsoft.SystemCenter2012.ConfigurationManager.Library MP) it will send out notifications for all SCCM alerts.
So does the 2012 MP monitor 2007 as well? And if so, how can I create a subscription to only notify for 2012? I currently set up the subscription directly against the 2012 servers, but I'd like to have it go against the application instead.
    Thanks.
    - Get on the floor, do that dinosaur

Yes, we have Exchange. But it doesn't make sense that a subscription criteria set to the ConfigMgr application would send alerts regrading Exchange. Maybe because the SCCM client is installed on those servers...?
False alerts as in SCOM thinks one thing but its not actually the case. For example, thinking that an Exchange server is a SCCM server. And Alerting on SCCM 2007 instead of 2012.

  • SCCM 2012 and SCCM 2007 Shared Distribution Points

I am building a new SCCM 2012 site (primary and 4 secondaries) besides a SCCM 2007 site (primary, 3 secondaries and 65 DPs).
I migrated all objects from SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012 which worked well.
I migrated a client from SCCM 2007 to my SCCM 2012 environment and that worked well. Then i push some packages from SCCM 2012 to my migrated client which worked as well either.
Then I switch on the SHARED DISTRIBUTION option in the migration section and now my migrated SCCM 2012 client only can access the SCCM 2007 DPs and packages from SCCM 2012 DP can't be accessed anymore...in Software Center the packages will stay at 0% downloading....
Is that normal behavior after enabling shared DPs ?

Did you ever find a solution for this? I am experiencing the same issue.
I have an IP address range boundary for testing SCCM 2012. After enabling shared distribution option SCCM 2012 migrated boundaries from SCCM 2007. My test IP address range boundary has two boundary groups... One is the SCCM 2012 Boundary group
pointing towards the SCCM 2012 DPs. The 2nd is the automatically created "Boundary Group for SCCM 2007 distribution point."
With both of those in there I can only push SCCM 2007 packages to the SCCM 2012 clients. SCCM 2012 packages come back in the logs as "Calling back with empty distribution points list." If I remove the automatically created "Boundary Group for SCCM 2007 distribution
point" from the test IP boundary then SCCM 2012 clients will properly download from the SCCM 2012 DPs, but now the SCCM 2007 packages fail to download to the SCCM 2012 test clients.
I assume I have some kind of boundary issue but am at a loss of resolving it. Either that or I have the shared dp concept down incorrectly. Shouldn't I be able to have a boundary that has SCCM 2012 clients that uses the 2012 DP for 2012 content but the 2007
DP for 2007 content while I am migrating?
    Thanks for any help

  • Cross Forest Migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013

    Hi
Could anybody advice me the steps also the  pros and cons for below mentioned environment if we are going for the cross forest migration.
    Source
    Domain -   test.local
    Active Directory -  Windows 2003
    Exchange Server - 2007
    Target
    Domain -   test.net
    Active Directory -  Windows 2012
    Exchange Server - 2013
Also if it is possible ,
How could I remove the source environment including the exchange servers. after the migration ?
    Regards
    Muralee

    Hi Oliver ,
    Please suggest us.
In my environment we are in a plan to migrate from exchange 2007 to exchange 2013 (cross forest migration).
    Source : Exchange 2007 with sp3 ru 10
Target : Exchange 2013 with cu2 ( new environment yet to be created).
Trust : Forest trust in place (two way )
Domain and forest functional level : 2003 in both target and source
    Migration Steps :
    Step1 :
We are in a plan to execute 'preparemoverequest.ps1' first in the target forest ,so that we will get the disable MEU
    in the target forest.
    Step2:
Then we are going to use ADMT to migrate users SID'S and password .
    Step3:
Then we are going to move the mailboxes with New-moverequest
Please have a look in to our steps and suggest us ,whether we are going to proceed the migration in a right way or not
.Is anything needs to be changed please intimate me .
    Thanks
    S.Nithyanandham
    Hey there,
Sorry for taking a little while to get back to you, i've been busy working on Hosted Lync deployments!
Use ADMT first, then when using preparemoverequest.ps1 script using the -uselocalobject cmdlet. This will then tie it up to the ADMT migrated account.

  • SCCM 2012 to SCCM 2012 R2

    Hi,
I have a sccm 2012 server and I would like to move to sccm 2012 r2, so do a side by side migration and I was wondering if anyone or MS have documented a process for this.
    Other info:
The existing sccm 2012 server is running on W12K and all the roles are on this server, also it is a VM. Going forward I would be installing on W12K R2 and only utilising 2 server one for SQL and the other for all other sccm roles.

The guys are right. You should carry out the two in-place upgrades. However, in answer to your question, the side-by-side migration you are referring to is not supported. Therefore it is not documented. That's not to say it doesn't work - I've seen
it work. It is not supported and therefore MS have not tested it.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682006.aspx
You can migrate the following hierarchies:
With System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, you can migrate an existing Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 infrastructure to System Center 2012 Configuration Manager.
With System Center 2012 Configuration Manager SP1, you can migrate an existing Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 infrastructure or an existing System Center 2012 Configuration Manager SP1 infrastructure to System Center 2012
    Configuration Manager SP1.
With System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager, you can migrate an existing Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 infrastructure or an existing System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager infrastructure to System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager.

  • How to find in SCCM 2012, Which(sccm admin) deployed Application on machines.

    Hi,
Looking log files, to find who(sccm 2012 admin) deployed applications on machines.
Deployment has been deleted from console, However in database it is shwoing number of machines having with particular application.
Some sccm 2012 admin deployed application on machines by mistake, how to check from server or client logs, who(sccm admin) deployed application on machines.
Please let me, if anyone know about this.

Likely would want to run the "Deployments Created, Modified, or Deleted" status message query ":-)
    Wally Mead
Wally is right but watch out for these status message, I have not check in CM12 yet but in CM07 just open and click "ok" to close the package/ advert/ etc. would create a status message saying it was modified.

  • Collection in SCCM 2012 of SCCM 2007 clients?

    Hi,
I'd need to make a collection of SCCM 2007 clients in SCCM 2012. This way I know which clients need to be updated.
    Can that be done?
I guess queries can only be run on what sccm 2012 client return on info (I tried a simple query: configuraiton manager client state - version but it only return versions 5.x).
    Pls advise.

    Can that be done?
Can't you just add the column '(client) version' in the console? Are they displayed then? (Also keep in mind that it's theoretically not possible that CM07 clients can be assigned to a CM12 site)

  • Migrate FROM Server 2012 R2 Essentials TO Server 2012 R2 Standard

We have a new server with 2012 R2 Essentials. Failed to realize Essentials need for Domain Controller role and Deltek Vision Software running on new server does not run on Domain Controller.  We are prepared to upgrade to Server 2012 R2 Standard,
and have read the "Transition.." article in the Tech Net Library, but it does not go into much detail.  Need to know what else is involved and does the transition remove the FSMO requirement?   Does the transition wipe out all
programs and SQL Server installations? I have found articles on migrating from standard to essentials, but not the other way around.

    Hi,
When you talk about the "Transition" means Transition from Windows Server 2012 Essentials to Windows Server 2012 Standard?
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj247582.aspx
If you talk about the migration, i think you could do the migration process.

  • SBS2011 - Cross domain Migration to Server 2012 R2 w/ Exchange 2013

I am attempting to find the best way to do this, and any input/guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Source Server: SBS 2011 Standard - Internal domain costco.local
Target Server: Server 2012 R2, 2 virtuals, one for the domain controller, one for Exchange 2013 - Internal domain ad.costco.com
I know that in order to establish a trust relation, I must add a secondary domain controller to the SBS2011 domain and transfer FSMO roles.  My question is, can I use a trial Server 2008 R2 as an interim DC, create the trust, use ADMT to migrate user
accounts to the new domain and move mailboxes from the SBS server with the trust established on the Server 2008 DC?  Or do I have to install an interim exchange server and move the mailboxes and remove the SBS server from the domain?
If that is the case, can I use a 180 Trial of Server 2008 R2 and Exchange 2010 on two separate virtuals on the old domain, move all user accounts and mailboxes to a standard domain temporarily.  Then from the standard domain move user accounts and mailboxes
to the Server 2012 R2 DC and Exchange 2013 virtual?
It would be great if I could just establish a trust with with a second DC with SBS and move user accounts and mailboxes to the new internal domain, but I'm not sure if that is possible.  Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

SBS can't do trusts but the migration prep tool temporarily allows them I believe.  Have a look at this link dealing with migration to 2012 essentials from SBS, it doesn't deal with exchange though:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj721754.aspx
There is also a recent thread "Migrating from SBS 2011 to Server 2012R2 Standard & Exchange 2013" that may have some info.

  • Migration from SCVMM 2012 SP1 to R2 - New Hardware

We want to migrate our existing SCVMM 2012 SP1 to new hardware and then bump it to SCVMM 2012 R2. Our database is on a separate SQL 2008 R2 server. This is what we envision doing to get there:
Uninstall SCVMM 2012 SP1 on existing server and retaining the database
Backup and restore the SCVMM database to a new SQL 2012 server
Install SCVMM 2012 R2 on new hardware and connect to existing database on SQL 2012 server
Does this sound doable? Will we lose anything in the move? Maybe our existing libraries?
    Orange County District Attorney

Using your steps outlined above may NOT be supported.
    Please see here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn469607.aspx
    Upgrading on a remote computer
Upgrading from VMM in System Center 2012 SP1 on one computer to VMM in System Center 2012 R2 on a different computer is not supported when data is retained from the original installation, and the following configurations apply:
The original installation uses Windows DPAPI. This is the default setting if you did not configure distributed key management during setup.
The VMM management server is configured to use any of the following encrypted values or settings:
    Application settings (encrypted value)
    Service setting (encrypted value)
    SQL Server deployment (product key)
    Web deploy package (encryption password)
"Personally" and this is a pain, I would:
Uninstall VMM SP1 and retain the DB.
Re-install the exisiting hardware with Server 2012
Re-install VMM SP1 and reconnect to existing DB
    Upgrade to VMM 2012 R2
    Uninstall and retain the DB
Restore the DB on new SQL 2012 server
Reinstall VMM 2012 R2 on new Server and reconnect to existing DB
Note that you will probably get access denied messages once running on the new VMM server due to the SID change.  You will need to re-associate hosts and libraries.
I'm still not saying this is a supported method, but it's likely it's more supported as it's essentially following DR principals.

  • Migrating Clients from SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012 R2 via SCCM 2007 PACKAGE

I can migrate sccm clients from sccm 2007 to sccm 2012 using sccm 2007 package with sccm 2012 client?

Thanks for help me Peter and Torsten but this documentation says:
"You cannot upgrade Configuration Manager 2007 clients to System Center 2012 Configuration Manager by using this method.
In this scenario, use automatic client upgrade, which automatically creates and deploys a package that contains the latest version of the client."
