Cross platform movie information

We would like to keep information about movies associated with the file in a manner that can be read by both PC's and Mac's. I tried entering info in the Get Info-Searchlight Comments window on the Mac side, but they do not show up in the info on the PC side and was lost in copying back and forth. Is there a way to save information that will work cross-platform?

When I search in the Finder, it does not find it searching for content and All.
Did you add "Authors" to search field list, set your search criteria (e.g. matches, contains, begins or ends with, etc.), and the scope of the contents search? Like QT Kirk, I am not having a problem locating directors, authors, comments, etc.

  • Cannot move HD DVCPRO movies cross-platform unless all systems are 5.1

The 5.1 Crossgrade creates an awkward situation whereby an HD DVCPRO movie exported at full rez ('Current Settings') on an Intel box cannot be viewed on a G4 unless that system too has FCP 5.1 installed - the codec changed to allow the Intel compatibility. Earlier installs of FCP do not allow playback in Quicktime Player - you can hear the audio but the video is white.
The easiest answer is of course to ensure everyone's on 5.1, but that's not going to work in every case. So - before we launch into an export to another format that IS cross-platform compatible, do we have any advice? We need to export a 2.2 hour feature on a MBP, and long transcodes are going to be a pain.
DV would work fine, if the codec doesn't suffer the same problem. Does it? And if not, is transcoding >2 hours to 24fps DV going to be painful?
All advice gratefully receieved. As long as it's not from Mr.Ham.

Ouch indeed. I wish 'that fellow' the best! We don't have that problem though (we've got all the MXF's and a full backup of all the MXF's too, and everything was imported in 5.1). Our problem is a client who doesn't have 5.1, so he can't see the media we're exporting from 5.1 on his G4 with FCP 4.5. But he only needs to view the media, and it doesn't need to be in FCP - Quicktime Player would be fine. So we want to give him the material in a format that is compatible with his system So my question is - does DV exported from 5.1 suffer the same crossgrade format issues? And is it very timeconsuming to trasnscode out to DV from HD DVCPRO?
Worst comes to worst he can get 5.1. But it'd be great for budgetary reasons if we could avoid that.

  • Data Movement in Cross Platform

    Hi,
    Greeting!..
    My scenario is
    Host A - Hp-Unix
    Host B - Window 2003 Server
    1. Is the datapump dump file which is created in Host A can be import in Host B? is it so please forward the steps
    2. from Host A to Host B in need to transfer the data incrementally & regularly. How can i make this as automatic?
    Thanks in Advance
    Baalaji V

    Hi Balaji,
Yes you can import dump on cross-platform but you may need to check syntax in the Database Utilities guide available on Oracle Technology network. Here is direct lik http://www.oracle.com/pls/db112/to_toc?pathname=server.112%2Fe16536%2Ftoc.htm&remark=portal+%28Books%29
You can create and schedule two jobs in OEM. First job to export you source schema on predefine interval and store dump file on a shared locaiton that host b can access as well then next job will import that dump file into host b database.
If your purpose is to replicate data regularly then you should also look using streams.

  • Cross platform migrate repository and oms, gets "EM Key Verification Error"

    Hello,
I am trying to cross platform migrate repository and oms from Sun Solaris Sparc 64 bit to Linux x86-64bit.
    Environment:
Original repository Oracle 10.2.0.3, OMS 10.2.0.5, Sun Solaris Sparc 64 bit
New repositoy Oracle 10.2.0.3, OMS 10.2.0.5, Linux x86-64bit
    Following metalink note:
Subject: How To Move Grid Control Oms & Repository To Another Server
    Doc ID: 853293.1
    to step 4:
    4. Point the new OMS to the new repository
can't get over emkey corrupt issue, gets error:
2009-10-13 14:07:24,570 [AJPRequestHandler-ApplicationServerThread-11] ERROR conn.ConnectionService verifyRepositoryEx.918 - EM Key Verification Error = Em key does not match with repos verifier
2009-10-13 14:07:27,910 [Shutdown] ERROR em.notification unregisterOMS.2573 - Error unregistering: EM Key is Missing java.sql.SQLException: EM Key is Missing
The newly installed additional OMS can only point to the original repository and can't point to the newly migrated repository.
    Steps I did:
Install an addition OMS to point to original repository (make sure emkey is in repository)
create a new empty database on new host with a new name (is new name caused problem?)
migrate old repository to new (use export/import)
point new OMS to new repository by modifing emoms.properties
startup oms and gets emkey corrupt error
This metalink note does not help either:
Subject: The Em Key is not configured properly. Run "emctl status emkey" for more details.
    Doc ID: 817035.1
I also have a SR open but still have no help from Oracle support. I did make sure the emkey is in the repository before migrate. There may be tricks that I don't know.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thank you for your help in advance.

Hi, I'm having the same issue.
Our original installation was on Windows 32bit with the repository and OMS on the same host. I want to move the repository to a linux 64bit host to make more resource available for everything. The new database is 11.1.0.7 though. As the Grid control release is 10.2.0.5 Oracle Support have confirmed that the 11g database is OK to use.
In the log I see a lot of this:
    [AJPRequestHandler-ApplicationServerThread-5] ERROR conn.ConnectionService verifyRepositoryEx.911 - Invalid Connection Pool. ERROR = ORA-01031: insufficient privileges

    java.sql.SQLException: EM Key is Missing
Unfortunately that package is wrapped so I can't see what privs are required.
The instructions say (simplified here) either datapump or exp/imp to the new database, run some admin scripts, then update the emoms.properties with the new connection information. Thats it - start OMS again and it should work.
Thankfully I can turn the old repository back on while I sift through these logs.

  • External Hard Drive won't appear on PC (want cross platform)

I have an external USB Hard Drive. I formatted it using the Disk Utility, OS Format and Journaling. Did a small partition in case I needed a system boot drive. Now my sis needed to backup her laptop (Dell laptop), but the drive won't appear in My Computer, it recognizes there is a USB device on the lower task bar, but no drive anywhere.
Do I have to reformat? what steps do I need to make this USB drive cross-platform friendly?
    Paul

    Hi, Paul.
You may not want to reformat the drive as FAT-32 since there is a limit on the size of the partition, the maximum file size, and other issues, especially if her Dell's drive is formatted as NTFS (FAT-32 does not support NTFS extended attributes). FAT-32 is unsuitable for backing-up Mac OS X volumes as it cannot preserve the extended attributes (permissions, etc.) employed by Mac OS X.
It's really best if you each have your own external hard drive for backup, as part of implementing a comprehensive Backup and Recovery solution, such as I use and detail in my "Backup and Recovery" FAQ. You also don't want one person inadvertently writing over another person's backups, which could happen if one is not careful. Furthermore, it is often easiest for recovery.
How one handles backup in cross-platform environments is tricky and depends on the native formats employed by the different computers involved, and whether backup will be performed over a network or by directly connecting backup drives to the computers one is backing up.
To enable her Dell to use the Mac-formatted drive, install Mediafour's MacDrive for Windows on the PC. MacDrive for Windows is probably the state-of-the-art application for enabling you to use Mac-formatted disks and hard drives on Windows-based PCs.
    Good luck!

  • Which product to purchase (cross platform necessary from Mac to PC) Adobe Photoshop 6.0.x to ???

I have ancient Mac photoshop and pagemaker files. i need best cross platform product for windows that can access these files. adobe photoshop is my primary concern. I understand the indesign cs2 will import old school mac photoshop 6.0.x but is not compatible with windows 7 ... thank you.
In particular we use windows 7 x64
So in summary, need to determine which Windows 7 x64 version of Indesign CSxx will still open archaic Mac Adobe files (layouts, EPS, etc).  Or is there a similar product that must be obtained.  I prefer to stick to Adobe products, however, if I must go elsewhere and you can help -- please advise.
Also, if you know what I should obtain, does this product have a trial download option that I can test functionality before purchase?  Warranty when I do buy information -- and return policy in general?
    Many thanks.

PM support has long been pulled from InDesign. You are going to need some old version like CS or CS2 and save an intermediate step to ID files. PS is not a probelm at all. All programs have 30day trials and Adobe has a general 14day return policy. Refer to the product pages on teh website.

  • Saving down from CS5 to CS4 cross-platform

Working on a PC, I am saving down from CS5 to CS4, exporting as an idml. The client is using CS4 on a MAC. When the file opens, the Master Page content is superimposing over the content of the page. Help!

Hi Bob and thank you for your help.
The answer to your question is yes. But now I have more information:
    - I opened the idml file on my PC and I see the same thing as my client who is using a MAC.
    - It occurred to me that my client created the original ind file himself (on a MAC) then sent it to me to work on.
    - BUT my client's ind file was a originally a Quark file converted to InDesign CS4.
    - I just completed another project for the client but I created it from scratch in CS5 then saved as an idml file so his MAC could read it. He had no problem with the idml file.

  • Recommendations for cross-platform software development?

I'm considering developing a new shareware product and I'd like for it to be able to run on both OS X and Windows, and Linux too if that ends up not requiring too much more effort.
I've been a Java programmer for many years now, making Java in some ways a very obvious solution. But I've never been all that pleased with the look and the performance of Java Swing GUIs. Swing isn't all that bad for some uses, but it can be clumsy in many ways (like Mac open/save file dialogs), doesn't always get the look-and-feel of a particular platform quite right, misses many platform-specific features one might want to access -- in short, Java-based apps seldom manage to have the fit-and-finish of off-the-shelf, shrink-wrapped commercial software.
I could stick with Java and try out the SWT toolkit (it's better at getting native look-and-feel, and native performance) for building a GUI, but from what I've read SWT has its limitation as well, and besides, because of the nature of the product I have in mind -- something dealing with audio and music -- a lot of the open source code I'd like to incorporate into my product is written in C or C++, and I might need to do some low-level driver work too. Trying to bridge all of that into a Java app with lots of JNI work doesn't seem like the best route to take.
I could learn C# and use Mono to make my stuff work for OS X, but, although I've never worked with C# and whatever standard GUI libraries one would typically use with C#, I suspect that it will work best for Windows and be kind of iffy for Mac use.
All this said, I'm fairly certain that, after many years away from it, the best thing for me to do is get back into using C++ for this project.
From my cursory preliminary research, the best looking C++ cross-platform development library I've seen so far is Qt from Trolltech. It's also very expensive from the viewpoint of a start-up operation -- a few thousand dollars, even with a 65% discount given to small start-ups.
There's the totally free, open-source wxWidgets, but it sounds like wxWidgets' Mac support isn't the greatest, and it sounds like it's noticeably buggier than Qt. Maybe it would still be good enough for my uses, but I don't know that yet -- which is one reason I'm writing this post, hoping others have had some experience with it.
Anyone know any other C++ cross platform toolkits for general GUI application development? One article I read said:
If your needs are a free cross-platform environment, then wxWidgets is your best and only solution. However, for under $100, you can find a cross-platform environment with a much better Macintosh user experience than wxWidgets.
I can't seem to find any of these better-than-wxWidgets, under-$100 solutions, however. Suggestions, anyone?

    Hi--
I think, from looking at that page he must be talking about the CPLAT framwork. It's kind of hard to figure out from that page, but he's got another page with information on CPLAT here.
It looks like it's $50 for the license. You can also look at the official CPLAT site for more info. I've never used it, though, so I can't really say whether it's any good or not. But there is a trial version available...

  • Cross-platform baOpenFile

I have an application with hundreds of small movies so i need to put them into a folder (called dswmedia) and an .exe and macintosh app to launch the application, outside the folder.
I'm using MX2004 and working on a PC XP2 to develop my app.
I have been trying to use baOpenFile to go from the .exe or .osx to a .dcr inside the dswmedia folder.
It works easily on the PC, but when I try on the Mac I get the error message "The application Projector quit unexpectedly."
I have checked every line of code and am sure the error doesn't happen until it comes to the line baOpenFile. I've checked the path on the Mac and it is correct.
I have tried opening another projector instead of the .dcr file, but it still quits unexpectedly. I have also tried a pdf document but it quit.
Can someone please tell me what I have to do to get it to work on the Mac?
any suggestion will be very welcome.
    Carmel

thanks so much Sean ... such a simple answer!
now it is almost working!!!, but it has a different problem, related to the cross-platform path for external script,
for some reason, when I open my app on the mac it is looking for the external script linked to the first movie, and is asking for it using a pc path.
so I will open a new discussion.

  • Installing the cross-platform version of jmf

I downloaded and exploded the cross-platform version of jmf on a windows nt box. I set my classpath to point to jmf.jar(per the setup instructions). I have a simple application that basically launches the movie viewer, but using this version of jmf doesn't allow me to view mpg's or avi's (these are the only file types I've tried). Installing the Windows version of jmf works fine, but am interested in getting the cross-platform to work the same way. Is this possible? Thanks,

  • How could I create, force mount, and burn a read-only cross-platform .iso image?

    Hello,
I am new to this group.
I want to perform the following steps as quickly as possible.
    1. Create a cross-platform .iso
    2. Mount the cross-platform .iso as read-only
    3. Unmount the cross-platform .iso
    4. Finally, burn the cross-platform read-only .iso to CD-R media
I need someone to give me an example and step-by-step instructions by using the hdiutil command in Mac Terminal.
Thanks in advance for your responses.
    John P.

    1. Create a cross-platform .iso
    hdiutil makehybrd -o image-file source-directory -iso -iso-volume-name volume-name
    2. Mount the cross-platform .iso as read-only
    hdiutil attach image-file
    3. Unmount the cross-platform .iso
    hdiutil detach /Volumes/volume-name
    4. Finally, burn the cross-platform read-only .iso to CD-R media
    hdiutil burn image-file
For more information, see the man page for hdiutil(1).

  • Create a cross platform online Card Game

How would I go about creating a cross platform online card game. An example of such an application is one I found where people can play the "Magic the Gathering" card game online and I was wondering how to go about creating a graphic interface where players could upload the images of cards and move them freely around the screen. There would not need to be any rules for the game. It would only need to be able to shuffle a deck and count how many cards are left in the deck and the discard pile.

I agree just installing the application would be the best option however one of the requirements of this is that it can run from the CD as we are going to be distributing some promotional material in the form of a flash application and would like to have run on either windows or mac without needing to require the users to have to choose the version.

  • Cross-platform upgrade question

I'm posting this question here as I have had less than satisfactory results from asking Customer Support about this issue. I know this forum is moderated by some great folks at Adobe and am hoping someone can clear up this question for me.
I currently own CS3 Design Premium for Windows, and need to purchase CS5 for Mac. A search for "Cross platform swap" on Adobe brought me to this page: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405819.html. However, the instructions there don't match what is offered on the support page. Under Return/Exchange/Refund I have only the following options:
    Duplicate Order
Product Didn't perform/ work as expected
    Purchased Incorrect upgrade
    Purchased Wrong Product/Platform/Language
    Shipping Problems
    Unable to Download Order
    Wrong Product delivered
None of those options is correct as described in the KB article. I decided to chat with Customer Support, and the rep told me that all I had to do is order the upgrade and I could choose which platform to install on first run. Really? The Rep said CS5 included two discs, one for Windows install and one for OS X. He assured me that I would have no problem installing a CS5 upgrade on my Mac, even though I have never installed CS3 on that machine.
I am skeptical about this solution for two reasons: one, Adobe has never offered Win and Mac discs together for CS versions. Two, when I go to pre-order CS5 I need to make a choice between platforms.
Has Adobe changed its method of delivering Creative Suite products? Are both platform discs really included? If not, there are two things that need to be done:
Article http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405819.html needs to be corrected. The steps as described cannot be completed.
Customer Support reps need to be notified that they are providing incorrect information regarding cross-platform upgrade procedures.
Finally, I need correct information as to how to go about upgrading my CS3 Windows to CS5 Mac. Do I purchase an upgrade disc and use my CS3 serial number to install? Do I do some sort of return, and if so, how?
Thanks in advance to anyone from Adobe who is willing to take the time to answer my question.

I don't represent Adobe in any capacity other than a mostly satisfied user. Here's what I did on a cross platform (Windows to Mac) exchange--not an upgrade, but my experience may help you.
I, too, found that the directions didn't match the support web site.  So I used 'Purchased wrong...' as my subject.  I then completely described what I wanted to do in the comments section.  I included my current platform version and serial number in the comments. After posting I had a case number to enter onto the Letter of Destruction (LOD) which I then attached to the case. I don't know if a LOD is required in your situation as you will be paying for an upgrade.  You should be able to keep both packages active-but customer support will probably know.  In my case I had to certify that I had destroyed the original Windows package.
After this was posted to the Adobe Customer Support Portal I then had a case number I could give to the telephone customer support so I called them.  While on the line with them they read my case file and informed me my credit card would be charged $5.95 for shipping.  Six days later I had the CS4 Design Premium for the Mac.  It *should* be just as easy for you.
I must say that I have had to call Adobe Customer Support a handful of times in the last couple of years.  In each and every case I received prompt and accurate information that solved my problem or pointed me directly to the solution.  I am aware that this is not always the case and wish you good luck.

    Hey Steve_web,
This issue can be caused when MAC address filtering is enabled on the Wi-Fi network, and the MAC address of the BlackBerry Playbook is not accepted. Try adding the MAC address of the BlackBerry Playbook to the accepted MAC address list for the Wi-Fi network and test.
