Cross platform play lists

I make my iTunes play lists on my PC. Is there a way to import, and/or convert, the play list file to my Mac so that I can have the same play lists without having to duplicate them manually. It’s a huge job. You would think that Apple would benefit from making an automatic conversion program for cross platform use.

Ok, I did what you said then I went to the Mac and it’s a little different. There wasn’t a Library choice, but there was an Import, so I imported the playlist file. The playlist showed up in iTunes on the Mac, but there were no songs in it, just a playlist folder. I made sure to create a playlist on the PC that I verified the songs were in the Mac library. Are you leaving something out? Is there a special new version of iTunes that has to be installed for this method to work?

  • Cross platform, multiple versions, multiple architectures.

I am fairly new to Illustrator plugin development.  I played around with the ADM on the Windows side and got that working.  Then realized we needed to build a plugin to run on Mac.  And although the SDK says you can target multiple platforms in the PiPL, it never really worked right.
Now I'm working on Mac with Xcode.  I'm running CS5.  Some of the machines I'm developing for are running CS4.  I've tried building the samples from the CS5 SDK and they work on my machine great.  When I build the CS4 SDK samples the tester can't load the plugin. (LiveDropShadow).  Do you think it is the version of Xcode?  I targeted the right OS version... made sure of that.
So next question.. can I build/deploy the same Flex UI in CS4 and CS5?  Any tips/suggestions?
    thanks,
    Will

You can absoultely hit both CS4 & CS5, Mac & PC -- we do! Hell, we used to hit CS3, CS4 and CS5
Your problem with CS5 & CS4 is probably that you're using a suite version that is only available in CS5. When Adobe updates a suite, they still make the old version available, but the headers will always use the version that shipped with their Illustrator by default (makes sense). So, for example, the Art Suite might be version 14 in CS4 and 15 in CS5. If you use the CS5 headers, kArtSuiteVersion is 15, but 15 doesn't exist in CS4.
Its easy to see if that's the problem -- add a message if AcquireSuite fails and have it print out the suite & version that failed. If that's the case, you'll just need to look at the CS4 SDK and figure out what version it shipped with (likely one less than you requested!). If you're not using anything added in the CS5 version, just switch the types & version requested to the CS4 one and after a recompile, you should be fine. Of course, this may repeat for several suites It might be faster to look at what suites you're requesting and then just check each one. A fast way is to look in the legacy folder -- if theres an AI140*.h version of your suite, that means it was updated in CS5, and you'll run into this problem.
As for the ADM, well, we had the same experience. That's why we switched to Qt. There are undoubtedly other cross-platform toolkits you could use, but that one will work (albeit with some work). The next version of Illustrator won't even have the ADM in it, so its definitely wise to avoid the ADM at this point.
I'm not too familliar with Flex, but I believe you can hit CS4 & CS5 with the same UI. I'm not the one to answer that unfortunately, as we don't use Flex. There's another thread from the last week that discussed the finer points of 3rd party vs Flash UI that you might find useful. It should be one or two down from this one in the thread list.
    Good luck!

  • Cross platform DVD burning  - Mac/PC/home DVD player

All right, Geniuses, re: cross platform DVD burning, I have read and read and spoken to many people. Out of 6 1/2 billion people, NOBODY can answer this question. Shane Ross probably can't answer it with a straight face.
How, where, why, when, what do I use to burn a DVD - who knows, maybe up to 90 minutes - so that I can play the same DVD on my Mac, your DVD home player, your boss's PC, whether it's Real Player, Windows Media Player, QT, mmrphmm-mmrphmm, or quakiifrafermessendt (w/chrome) format.
I am running Mac G5, dual proc. 2Gig, 3.5 G. RAM, OS 10.3.9, Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 which includes FCP, Compressor Live Type, DVD Studio Pro 3, Cinema Tools.
The editing part is a cinch. Even with my eyes open. I've used Mac since 1978 and shoot broadcast. Oddly, dropped frames, A/V synch, phase shifting, etc are no problems.
Also, I have about 300 shows that I did on VHS, 3/4", Betacam, and DV. I have an A to D converter that works great converting these tapes to digital which I store on my hard drive. What I need to do, let me back up... about a year ago I had to buy a PC because Mac doesn't support Solid Works 3D program. So, there, I said it, I own a PC. And that's why I have a problem. Or more accurately, a quandry. Rather than tie up my Mac, I might as well use the PC to record my videos to, then burn to DVD, then to edit them or run them through DVD Studio Pro on my Mac for authoring, then back to my first problem, How, where, why, when, what do I use to burn a DVD - who knows, maybe up 90 minutes - so that I can play the same DVD on my Mac, your DVD home player, your boss's PC, whether it's Real Player, Windows Media Player, QT, mmrphmm-mmrphmm, or quakiifrafermessendt (w/ultrascuzzyectoplacticdefoid) format.
Of course, I want highest quality. Absolutely, my finished DVDs have to play on PC, Mac and home DVD players. If you've gone this far, someday I might need to put some of this on the web. I like options. It might be delivered as a stream, or a download. Another compression question?
Simple, huh? Is there anything else you need to know? Should I fire up my old wire recorder, or are you going to suggest another 3rd party peripheral? Which would make me wonder, why hasn't Apple addressed this obvious disfunction.
BTW/ I have found Memorex DVDs work best on my system. Any comments?
    Regards.

    Welcome to the forum!
Time for a reality check: burned DVDs (and even stamped DVDs) are NOT 100% compatible with all DVD-Video reading devices. Period. It just the Nature of the technology and that fact that player and drive manufacturers rush products to market that are not fully in compliance with the DVD-Video standard.
That said, I've had only two individual playback compatibility complaints in the last 6 years with well over 2000 DVD-R discs authored in DVD-SP and burned from my Macs on an external Sony DVD burner. Those two complaints were rectified by burning a DVD+R disc for the clients.
    Things I have learned:
    · Windows Media Player doesn't play nice with DVD-Video. ULead and other DVD players for the Windows platform do work very well (I have to WinXP systems to test on). PC playback compatibility is dependent on many, many things; the user's video card, RAM, drive type (and condition), processor speed ... the list goes on and on. It's impossible to predict if ANY disc will work in any given PC.
    · Memorex is at the very bottom of the list for quality media. Don't get me wrong; they do have a wonderful warranty. If you send back any discs they will replace them with equally poor quality media at no charge. Memorex is simply a marketer - there's no telling what brand or quality of media you're actually getting when you purchase their brand ... but you can be assured it will be cheap.
That said; I'll agree that your workflow seems a bit backward. Authoring to DVD and then editing? Makes no sense. You're losing quite a bit of quality in that process as well as adding unneeded steps. If you must capture the footage with a Windows system and it needs editing, capture then convert to a QT codec that matches your FCP Sequence settings so when you move the files to your Mac for editing, everything actually plays nice.
If your program doesn't need editing and you just want to transfer it to tape, I'd recommend using a stand-alone DVD recorder so you don't have to tie up either computer.

  • Cross platform CS on PC to CS3 on Mac does not work like video says

Your video on cross platform workflow states that you can import older Premier CS files on a PC into CS3 on a Mac. I tried this and get the message, "this project was saved in a aversion prior to Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 and cannot be opened on a Mac. Please refer to the User Guide for import options." I guess I have to assume then that the video, www.adobe.com/go/vid0236, is wrong about this? Can someone please explain how I can salvage the work I did 3 years ago on Premiere Pro 1 on a PC when I am now exclusively working on the Mac in CS3?
    Thank you.

    Ty,
This has come up a few times and the solution is to find a PC CS3 user, who will Open the Project and then Save it in CS3-CS4 for you. I does mean that you'll have to befriend a PC-person, but who knows, maybe you can reciprocate later on. In each previous instance, this workflow, PC to PC to Mac worked perfectly. Note: the same holds for Encore Projects, and there is some PC to PC incompatibilities between very early versions and later versions. I had to Open and Save an Enocre 1.0 Project in CS2, so a CS4 (only) user could then Open in CS4. This stuff happens, and the skip in Mac porting can play a role in it. If I had CS3 on my PC's, I'd do it for you, but CS2 will not hlep you.
I believe that P 6.5 was the last previous version ported for the Mac, until CS3.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • With the new update iTunes lost my important play lists. Anyone else?

With the new update iTunes lost my important play lists. Anyone else?

If you have a backup on iCloud or iTunes you would not have lost all your data, the update went fine on my phone and my wifes and many others. On forums you dont see the millions of users saying it went well, just the few with issues. If you had no backup thats not Apples fault, thats yours. The same will happen whatever platform you go to if you dont back your data up.

  • Can I use Messages in OSX to text with a person on an Android platform? My iPhone works cross platform but I don't get the text in Messages on my desktop with OSX 10.8.2

Does "Messages" in OSX 10.8.2 work cross platform? My daughter has an android phone and I can text with her OK in iOS. However, her texts don't show up on OSX whereas texts from my son, who has an iPhone, work in iOS and OSX.

    HI,
The answer is yes and no.
As Barney-15E link says you can get the Messages app to SMS to AIM Buddies.  Or rather telephone Numbers as AIM Buddies.
    There are limits.
The computer has to be set as if in the United States (System Preferences > Language and Text > Region)
The phone is question has to be on a carrier that supports AIM SMS forwarding which only applies to some US based carriers.
The reason the SMS Messages arriving on the iPhone do not sync is that they are not iMessages  (the "No" Part).
I use Messages with the Buddy List Showing.
As a test I have added a made up number as a Buddy and also created a Address Card for it.
So Mousing over the "Buddy" reveal the "Screen Name" which is the phone Number
You have to include the Leading +1 country code as well.

  • Recommended way to unit test mobile cross platform C++ in Visual Studio 2015

    Hello,
I'm playing with the new Visual Studio 2015 to check its capabilities for cross platform development using C++ as coding language. I've seen several videos in Channel9 about this feature but I don't remember hearing in any of these a word about how
to unit test such projects from Visual Studio 2015. Is there some recommended way to create unit tests for such projects?
I'm not sure I can use Visual Studio test projects for C++ to test the android library or the Windows Phone 8.1. If I add a new platform ARM to a test project of those, I cannot select in the platform toolset combo the values that I have for my libraries
(Clang 3.4 and Windows 8.1 respectively). So it seems that such test projects are not addressed for cross platform c++ in VS2015.
I also have tried to make a second cross platform library project to contain the tests, adding there the Catch.h file from catch framework or adding the files from Google Test framework. My idea was to link each cross platform test library with their corresponding
"production code" libraries. In both cases (catch and gtest) I have problems when trying to compile the test framework files (not sure if it is not possible or just my fault being new at C++ for mobile platforms).
Has anyone succeeded unit testing the cross platform c++ code in VS2015? How?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jorge.

    Hi Jorge,
Thanks you for posting in MSDN forum.
Based on your issue, since VS2015 Preview is previews for the next major release of Visual Studio, currently we forums don’t provide support for VS2015 Preview. So the product team would accept the suggestions or feedbacks for the VS2015 now.
So you can submit the feedback/suggestions to Microsoft Connect feedback portal:

  • Exchange tasks and to-dos and cross platform continuity

When one creates a task on the PC with the shortcut to create a task it gets created as a to-do and not in the tasks folder or the exchange account. All other devices only look at the tasks folder so tasks are not cross platform.
Ctnl-shift-K is create new task. So why does it only show in the PC to do list and not the task list. It does not then show in the task list
on my mac or other devices. Whoever had a hand in the task and to do set up had no idea of continuity between apps, naming and functions.
Creating a task in the mac environment (too many keystrokes) will create a task but it will often show on my PC in the to-do list but not on the Mac task list on which it was created.
Does anyone have any great answers or solutions? HELP!!!!!!

Since there's no evidence in your post that any of this has anything to do with an Exchange server, I recommend that you post this in the Outlook Forum:

  • Create a cross platform online Card Game

How would I go about creating a cross platform online card game. An example of such an application is one I found where people can play the "Magic the Gathering" card game online and I was wondering how to go about creating a graphic interface where players could upload the images of cards and move them freely around the screen. There would not need to be any rules for the game. It would only need to be able to shuffle a deck and count how many cards are left in the deck and the discard pile.

I agree just installing the application would be the best option however one of the requirements of this is that it can run from the CD as we are going to be distributing some promotional material in the form of a flash application and would like to have run on either windows or mac without needing to require the users to have to choose the version.

Please let me know If I am missing any specific configuration related content for blackberry 10.Thanks

    Hey Steve_web,
This issue can be caused when MAC address filtering is enabled on the Wi-Fi network, and the MAC address of the BlackBerry Playbook is not accepted. Try adding the MAC address of the BlackBerry Playbook to the accepted MAC address list for the Wi-Fi network and test.

  • Exporting Cross Platforms/Windows Media Encoder

(I know this is an apple forum, but I have transferred videos across platforms from a Mac to a PC. My employer wants me to create wmv files to play on windows media player and all the other forums told me to cross platforms if I couldn't pay for a program to export through Final Cut Pro.)
Long story short, I exported out of FCP into M2v files. The files are now on the PC, where they play fine. However, when I try to convert into wmv, I lose the first 3-4 seconds of video and it throws the audio off by that much. Am I doing something in Windows Media Encoder to lose that or was the initial transfer from FCP the problem?
    Any help would be great.

No answer from me about what to do on your PC, but you might go directly from FCP to WMV using Flip4Mac in trial mode. It will give you 1/2 the duration of a clip, up to 30 seconds, so you can test whether it works for your purpose. Could be worth chunking out the $49. for the license.

  • Re: Java Media Framework cross platform installation / setup on Mac / UNIX

JMF cross-platform doesn't support everything that the native performance pack versions support. I found this out the hard way too because pure Java JMF can't play AVI's from my digital camera but the Win32 enhanced JMF can. In particular, with my case pure Java JMF doesn't support all the frame rates that the others do.
I know Apple has been releasing some of the other APIs lately, like JAI. We might want to check over at apple.com and see if they have a native JMF impl.

    Hi,
JMF work well on OS(32bits) and Java(32bits)

  • What's the proper way to do this cross-platform app?

    hey y'all
I'm making a multimedia app  with LV2010 and I'm trying to make it cross platform (win and mac os x).
The functionality I need requires the use of  system libraries, I have access to somewhat similar functions in both OS's
(winmm.dll in windows, coreMidi.framework in mac OS X)
Except for the  actual system calls  the VIs will be identical.
I can make the VI work in either platform by using the  call library function node,  but  i don't want to  have two copies of everything.
I've tried  doing  a  wrapper sub  VI that puts  the  call library function node  in a case statement  and detect the OS but this VI will not be  executable because of dependencies (won't find the  library referenced in one of the cases. depending on the OS executed)
Is there any way  I can specify  which subVI's to load  on a project or something to  get this whole dependency issue sorted?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You want to wrap the platform-specific code in a Conditional Disable structure, with one condition for each supported platform.  The OS symbol is already defined; see the help for Creating Conditional Disable Structures, which lists the pre-defined symbols and values.

  • Suggestion on using Cross platform JMF

    hi all,
I have been using JMF windows performance pack to run audio and video in an applet. After creating jar file out of that, i tried running it in another system and found that,my jar file executes only after installing JMF in that system. How to solve this problem. What if i want to execute my jar file in other platforms such as linux, mac os x,etc.Should i use CROSS PLATFORM JMF.Please help me solve this problem.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards

The performance pack versions of JMF are "generally" just for video capture functionality, eg. webcams and tv cards.
If your code just requires JMF to play media ( video/sound) then I suspect you can get away with the cross-platform version. But if you need video capture, then that's too intensive for pure java, and Sun had to use native code, which required the separate "performance pack" releases.

    Owen

  • Adobe software and suites with cross platform licenses

    Hello,
I am aware that Photoshop Elements, Premiere Elements, and Lightroom come with cross-platform licenses (so I can install one copy on my PC and one copy on my Mac using the same serial number).
Because I own a Mac and a PC, this type of license is very useful for me.
Could you please provide a full list of Adobe software and software  suites which carry this type of license?
    Thanks

Your list is complete. As far as Creative Suites are concerned, only Creative Cloud or Volume Licenses allow cross-platform use and activation. All otehr normal retail bundles are platform specific.
