Cross platform update Win 1.x to Mac 3.x

Hi,
i'm going to ask that question here again, because i think that is has not been answered correctly by the Adobe Support.
I like to update to the newest Lightroom version and use it on my new Mac computer.
I have a valid, registered serial number of Lightroom 1.x for WINDOWS.
I used it on Windows serveral years ago. Has not been used since 2007....
I don't have any Lightroom 1.x software available any more, neither for Win or Mac...
Now I installed the DEMO version of LR 3.x on my MAC. Now the evaluation period is over.
My question is: can i just buy an upgrade packet to LR 3.5 (multiplatform?) and use it on my MAC now?
How will that work? Will they create a new vaild serial number out of my old serial, just to activate the DEMO version ??
Will i have any issues because the original version was used on windows, and now the new version will be used on MAC?
Remember, i dont't have any old software version available any more, so i am not able to install an old software to let an upgrade software search for any old installation! Got me??
It is my biggest concern that the new version will search for any old installed software version, which i don't have....
Thanks for your help.

The license for LR is platform independent.
You do not require version 1 on your system. All you require is the original valid serial number.
When you enter the upgrade serial number LR will ask for your old number, you enter this and all will be well.
If you registered your original serial number with Adobe you can find this on your account.

  • Cross-Platform Adobe Creative Suite 4 For Mac From Windows

    Hello,
I am having quite a unusual problem. The problem is that I have a copy of Adobe Creative Suite from my company that is meant for Windows, and it will not install on a mac. Does anyone know of a way to install a windows native Adobe Suite on a Mac platform? I have tried using a emulator called wine, but every time I get into the setup when the system is checking compatibility the entire thing is halted. I do not have access to any windows machine, and installing a Virtual Machine is out of the question. I also considered swapping the windows version of the software with the Adobe company, but then I would have to destroy the disk of my company. Any help on installing Adobe creative suite 4 meant for a Windows platform on a mac? Emulation etc?
    Thanks

installing a Virtual Machine is out of the question
    Why?
    Try CrossOver Mac from codeweavers.com
Otherwise, your only option is to use install Windows via Boot Camp.

  • Cross platform - Using AI on PC and Mac

If I have a PC and Mac both running CS3 and I'm using Opentype fonts, how easy/hard is it to work on an AI file back and forth between the two computers?

Should be fairly easy. I worked with both PC + Mac in a production environment where we were ripping EPS files that were created on the Mac. The only concern is when you save the EPS, be sure to select 8-Bit Tiff preview instead of the traditional 8-Bit Mac preview. Open type fonts shouldn't be an issue, especially if you use a font management program like "Font Agent Pro" in both platforms and have all of the fonts loaded.

  • Cross platform upgrade question between Photoshop CS5/CS6 and multiple Windows/Mac computers

    Hello,
I'm currently using a Windows laptop and PC running Photoshop CS5 from a Student license I got in college. I am considering moving to an Apple laptop so I was looking at the cross platform update question on the forum that led me here: Order product | Platform, language swap
It's not really clear if I will be eligible for the upgrade, and Adobe support chat sent me to the forum, and that page sends me back to where I started to see if I am eligible. I would prefer to purchase the upgrade outright, rather than pay for the new monthly subscription model.
If I am eligible for a swap/upgrade to Apple CS6, will I still be able to use CS5 on my Windows PC?
    Thanks.

I don't have a definitive answer, but I have a feeling that a student teacher version is not eligible for an upgrade discount.  You own the CS5 perpetual license, and can install it on two computers at the same time as CS6, CC etc.  That will be the case in perpetuity.  (not sure why I didn't just type 'forever' back there, or alert the cliche police 'Going forward')
Photoshop CS6 Extended will cost you just shy of US$1600 according to this Amazon page  The non extended version does not give you the 3D tools, and Photoshop CC comes as the full extended version as standard.  If you got the Photoshop / Lightroom Photography plan at a mere $10 a month, the price of CS6 would keep you subscribed for > three years.  Photoshop CC has a lot of wonderful features CS6 does not have, and will never have, and CC will be be constantly updated 'in perpetuity'. ;-)  $10 a month!  Heck, what's not to like about that?!!!

  • PDF with special characters (é, ñ) needs to be legible cross-platform(mac & pc)

I am using Illustrator to design a PDF. Because it's in Spanish, accent marks and other special characters are needed (á, ñ).
When I export the PDF from the ai file and view it on my mac it looks fine. However, when I open it on a pc some of the special characters are completely missing.
I tried Creating Outlines with the text, although it will make it harder to update in the future and so less preferable to leaving the text editable. Creating Outlines works fine on the mac, however on the pc the L's appear thicker than they actually are.
Does anyone know how to make special characters legible cross-platform when creating a PDF using Illustrator?
    Thanks!!

Does anyone know how to make special characters legible cross-platform when creating a PDF using Illustrator?
Yes. You use a correct OpenType font that has the glyphs in the place where they belong and can be embedded without limitations. Older TrueType or PostScript fonts are simply unsuitable as are fonts that cannot be emebdded and require to be installed locally. It all comes down to system language settings vs. the unified environment inside acrobat. This also requires any PDF to be created on systems with the language settings correct in the first place, i.e. creating Spanish text with a Japanese version of AI would be pretty desastrous due to how foreign language fonts are accessed... check these things and then try again. If possible, enforce embedding of the full font in the PDF settings, not just a subset and choose a suitable font.

  • Cross platform CS on PC to CS3 on Mac does not work like video says

Your video on cross platform workflow states that you can import older Premier CS files on a PC into CS3 on a Mac. I tried this and get the message, "this project was saved in a aversion prior to Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 and cannot be opened on a Mac. Please refer to the User Guide for import options." I guess I have to assume then that the video, www.adobe.com/go/vid0236, is wrong about this? Can someone please explain how I can salvage the work I did 3 years ago on Premiere Pro 1 on a PC when I am now exclusively working on the Mac in CS3?
    Thank you.

    Ty,
This has come up a few times and the solution is to find a PC CS3 user, who will Open the Project and then Save it in CS3-CS4 for you. I does mean that you'll have to befriend a PC-person, but who knows, maybe you can reciprocate later on. In each previous instance, this workflow, PC to PC to Mac worked perfectly. Note: the same holds for Encore Projects, and there is some PC to PC incompatibilities between very early versions and later versions. I had to Open and Save an Enocre 1.0 Project in CS2, so a CS4 (only) user could then Open in CS4. This stuff happens, and the skip in Mac porting can play a role in it. If I had CS3 on my PC's, I'd do it for you, but CS2 will not hlep you.
I believe that P 6.5 was the last previous version ported for the Mac, until CS3.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Which product to purchase (cross platform necessary from Mac to PC) Adobe Photoshop 6.0.x to ???

I have ancient Mac photoshop and pagemaker files. i need best cross platform product for windows that can access these files. adobe photoshop is my primary concern. I understand the indesign cs2 will import old school mac photoshop 6.0.x but is not compatible with windows 7 ... thank you.
In particular we use windows 7 x64
So in summary, need to determine which Windows 7 x64 version of Indesign CSxx will still open archaic Mac Adobe files (layouts, EPS, etc).  Or is there a similar product that must be obtained.  I prefer to stick to Adobe products, however, if I must go elsewhere and you can help -- please advise.
Also, if you know what I should obtain, does this product have a trial download option that I can test functionality before purchase?  Warranty when I do buy information -- and return policy in general?
    Many thanks.

PM support has long been pulled from InDesign. You are going to need some old version like CS or CS2 and save an intermediate step to ID files. PS is not a probelm at all. All programs have 30day trials and Adobe has a general 14day return policy. Refer to the product pages on teh website.

  • Dir 11.5 cross platform anomaly - Mac projector goes dormant after visiting a website

    Hello,
I'm working out the last of the kinks in a cross platform projector built in a Windows environment using Director 11.5.
I've encountered one kink that I can't seem to eliminate.
One of the functions of the projector allows users to visit various websites through Buddy API's OpenURL command.  It works perfectly in the Windows domain, and it almost works perfectly in the Mac domain except...
When you close the website and return to the projector on a Mac the projector seems to be dormant in that buttons wont highlight.  However if you click anywhere in the stage the projector comes back to life and all is good again.
Has anyone else encountered this and if so how did you resolve it?
    TIA!

Yep, animate in the background is enabled.
The projector works perfectly in the Windows realm and except for this one anomaly it works in the Mac realm.
    Keep the thoughts coming!

  • Cross platform DVD burning  - Mac/PC/home DVD player

All right, Geniuses, re: cross platform DVD burning, I have read and read and spoken to many people. Out of 6 1/2 billion people, NOBODY can answer this question. Shane Ross probably can't answer it with a straight face.
How, where, why, when, what do I use to burn a DVD - who knows, maybe up to 90 minutes - so that I can play the same DVD on my Mac, your DVD home player, your boss's PC, whether it's Real Player, Windows Media Player, QT, mmrphmm-mmrphmm, or quakiifrafermessendt (w/chrome) format.
I am running Mac G5, dual proc. 2Gig, 3.5 G. RAM, OS 10.3.9, Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 which includes FCP, Compressor Live Type, DVD Studio Pro 3, Cinema Tools.
The editing part is a cinch. Even with my eyes open. I've used Mac since 1978 and shoot broadcast. Oddly, dropped frames, A/V synch, phase shifting, etc are no problems.
Also, I have about 300 shows that I did on VHS, 3/4", Betacam, and DV. I have an A to D converter that works great converting these tapes to digital which I store on my hard drive. What I need to do, let me back up... about a year ago I had to buy a PC because Mac doesn't support Solid Works 3D program. So, there, I said it, I own a PC. And that's why I have a problem. Or more accurately, a quandry. Rather than tie up my Mac, I might as well use the PC to record my videos to, then burn to DVD, then to edit them or run them through DVD Studio Pro on my Mac for authoring, then back to my first problem, How, where, why, when, what do I use to burn a DVD - who knows, maybe up 90 minutes - so that I can play the same DVD on my Mac, your DVD home player, your boss's PC, whether it's Real Player, Windows Media Player, QT, mmrphmm-mmrphmm, or quakiifrafermessendt (w/ultrascuzzyectoplacticdefoid) format.
Of course, I want highest quality. Absolutely, my finished DVDs have to play on PC, Mac and home DVD players. If you've gone this far, someday I might need to put some of this on the web. I like options. It might be delivered as a stream, or a download. Another compression question?
Simple, huh? Is there anything else you need to know? Should I fire up my old wire recorder, or are you going to suggest another 3rd party peripheral? Which would make me wonder, why hasn't Apple addressed this obvious disfunction.
BTW/ I have found Memorex DVDs work best on my system. Any comments?
    Regards.

    Welcome to the forum!
Time for a reality check: burned DVDs (and even stamped DVDs) are NOT 100% compatible with all DVD-Video reading devices. Period. It just the Nature of the technology and that fact that player and drive manufacturers rush products to market that are not fully in compliance with the DVD-Video standard.
That said, I've had only two individual playback compatibility complaints in the last 6 years with well over 2000 DVD-R discs authored in DVD-SP and burned from my Macs on an external Sony DVD burner. Those two complaints were rectified by burning a DVD+R disc for the clients.
    Things I have learned:
    · Windows Media Player doesn't play nice with DVD-Video. ULead and other DVD players for the Windows platform do work very well (I have to WinXP systems to test on). PC playback compatibility is dependent on many, many things; the user's video card, RAM, drive type (and condition), processor speed ... the list goes on and on. It's impossible to predict if ANY disc will work in any given PC.
    · Memorex is at the very bottom of the list for quality media. Don't get me wrong; they do have a wonderful warranty. If you send back any discs they will replace them with equally poor quality media at no charge. Memorex is simply a marketer - there's no telling what brand or quality of media you're actually getting when you purchase their brand ... but you can be assured it will be cheap.
That said; I'll agree that your workflow seems a bit backward. Authoring to DVD and then editing? Makes no sense. You're losing quite a bit of quality in that process as well as adding unneeded steps. If you must capture the footage with a Windows system and it needs editing, capture then convert to a QT codec that matches your FCP Sequence settings so when you move the files to your Mac for editing, everything actually plays nice.
If your program doesn't need editing and you just want to transfer it to tape, I'd recommend using a stand-alone DVD recorder so you don't have to tie up either computer.

  • Re: Java Media Framework cross platform installation / setup on Mac / UNIX

JMF cross-platform doesn't support everything that the native performance pack versions support. I found this out the hard way too because pure Java JMF can't play AVI's from my digital camera but the Win32 enhanced JMF can. In particular, with my case pure Java JMF doesn't support all the frame rates that the others do.
I know Apple has been releasing some of the other APIs lately, like JAI. We might want to check over at apple.com and see if they have a native JMF impl.

    Hi,
JMF work well on OS(32bits) and Java(32bits)
    Octavian.

  • How to make cross platform screensavers

I work on an Imac on os X. I need to make screensavers for

Unfortunately there is no choices for you when comes to MAC.
    Windows has over
30 really good screensaver tools, some of which very capable
    and totally free.
Myself do not use Mac but friends who do, use the
    "screentime" as preferred tool.
Check the features, see what you need and which tools deliver
    what you looking
for than pick the winner :)

  • Can you still get a cross platform upgrade for CS3?

I'm a mac user and recently purchased CS3 Design Premium for windows used -- does anyone know you can still get a cross platform upgrade from windows to mac without upgrading to CS4?

I am very, very sorry to read that. My windows pc is just crashed because of a virus my payed anti-virus program could not deal with, and everything have to be cleared totally. (XP pro - browser used at the virus-time = Mozilla. Anti-virus program = The price winning PC-tools)
Have to start all over again from scratch.
Therefore I wanted to change to a new Mac machine for my CS3.
I know I could upgrade to CS4, but do not need the CS4 for the time being, so I have to stay with Windows.
Alle my other programs - Nikon - Topaz -  Nik-software - Hemi. - Jason Odell - have been so very helpfull and trusted me and have send me new keys - THANK YOU, you have a lot of problems when this problem happens, so they removed some of the stones, , but not Adobe, they said by telephone (I also tryed a mail, but no answer), that I have to sit at the pc for installing and then try to call them by telephone to get help for autentification, and nobody can promise me it will be the same day.
Last time it took one and a half our to get through by telephone.
I really love your program (CS3 extended) ....... but not this.

  • No Pre-CS4 cross-platform upgrades anymore?

I bought CS3.3 Web Premium for Windows 2 1/2 months ago. Before I purchased I confirmed with Adobe Customer Service that I can exchange it to the Mac version for free.
This week I finally purchased a Mac and called Adobe to get the Mac version, and was told that my only option would be to upgrade to CS4 Mac (for $$$) and that they no longer sell / send out version 3.3.
Can this be for real? I just bought it 2 1/2 months ago and they are no longer honoring their free cross-platform upgrade policy. It's hard to imagine that they don't have 3.3 in stock any more. It's not like I am requesting a CS2 Win to CS2 Mac upgrade. I just spend a lot of money, and now they want me to spend even more money...
Any ideas? Anybody at Adobe reading this?
    Greg

Now that makes sense. I'm beginning to thing that the techs and sales people at Adobe don't really know anything. I spoke to three, and none of them even hinted at that possibility.
I also spoke to someone at Apple who said that their software couldn't damage the Mac's hardware, as well. It's hard to believe they'd keep it on the market without warnings, recalls or disclaimers, knowing it could do that much damage.
Sure leaves a bad taste in my mouth about Adobe. Maybe it's time for me to look at other software.
    Thanks,
    Michele

  • Template Cross-Platform - Version Differences

I created a template in Dreamweaver 8 on a Mac and sent it to
a programmer using Dreamweaver MX on WIndows and the formatting for
him is messed up. Divs aren't lining up where I put them. He sent a
screen shot of his directory (which matches mine) and of the
template within DW MX and the divs are out of place.
Is this issue based on OS cross-platform, DW 8 to MX and
differences in how those versions handle MX or some other issue?

HTML is HTML, you know? It wouldn't make any difference if
    you were
creating on a Mac, a PC, or a Linux box.
But - DMX is a dumb bunny when it comes to any advanced
    layout methods. I
imagine the problem you are seeing is due to DMX's inability
    to render CSS
layouts properly. Is your colleague using DMX6.0 or 6.1? If
    the former,
they should at the least update to the latter immediately,
    although that may
    not fix the problems either.
