Cross posted from Bios - MSI 7800GTX SLI BIOS REVISIONS

> I've pasted my post from bios to here, as no one took any interest.
Howdie peoples, after checking out the bios revisions on my SLI cards I have found they have different bios revisions. Would this play any part in bad performance?.
Card one :
05/18/05
05.70.02.11.10
(Purchased this one Sept 05)
Card two:
05/12/05
05.70.02.11.01
(This was purchased Jan 06! and later bought from eBay).
Any input would be great.  biggthumbsup
Thanks
ps Anyone know where I can get the MSI 7800GTX 512 rear venting fan/heatsink assemblies? (they take up two card slots)

I thought the part number is already on the sticker of the GPU. Gd luck.

  • Book printing - Unique Workflows? - Cross-Posted from Aperture forum

(Cross-posted. I think this post might be of interest to iPhoto users as well)
I am exploring the book printing features in Aperture. My goal was to build the book in Aperture and get this into iPhoto so that I could use MyPublisher to print the book. MyPublisher currently has a 50% off coupon for orders over $50. iPhoto needs their plugin to upload to MyPublisher instead of Apple when the BuyBook button is chosen. (code is MAC2550 - good though Dec 31). The design features in Aperture are rudimentary at best. It's simple to customize the design for photo placement, adding and deleting photos, resizing, etc. The type design features are not simple to customize, though. However, with patience a suitable design can be made. You can add and delete text boxes at will but these will always default to the template's built in style. I continually had to reformat the type by right clicking on the selected text and applying my preferred style. One trick when cutting and pasting text is to place the cursor one letter in from the beginning of a preformatted line, select the remaining text and paste - this will pick up the current style rather than default to the template default. Then delete the leftover first character of the line. From Aperture I printed the book to PDF, being sure to choose letter size and borderless paper option. Once book is printed to PDF I opened in Acrobat and "saved as" to PNG. In the PNG options I chose 600ppi (the default of 300ppi might have been just fine for quality, not sure). Saving to PNG creates an individual file for each page. In testing Apple's Preview software for this I found it would make a nice PNG - but of just one page at a time. I then imported all PNG pages into iPhoto. Within iPhoto create a book. I used "Modern Lines" with double sided pages. To create the cover (it's actually a label that is adhered to the linen hard cover book) I had to import the actual cover photo used in Aperture to recreate a new design based on the "Modern Lines" template. I then recreated my pages using the template. The key step being to assign the single photo page design for each page. For each page I dropped in the corresponding PNG file which included all type and images created previously in Aperture. One minor point when adjusting the placed PNG images in the iPhoto template is the option to fit photo to frame size (an option when right clicking on the photo). When fit photo is selected the image gets resized very slightly. I opted not to use this feature as I thought the resizing might compromise quality. I then clicked on the "buy book" button and the file was assembled and sent to MyPublisher. Since I had the 50% coupon I opted for the leather bound book option and ordered two 24 page books for $53.74 which included $9.98 standard FedEx fee. As for quality I'll have to wait and see. I'll post back once books are in hand.

It is important to realize there are two aspects to an index.
    1) Topics
    2) Page References
Topics have no relation to the text of the actual document. Topics can
be imported from one InDesign document to another. Also, creating topics
from a list of text is trivial. Just type all the words (or place them
from a text document or Word doc) and then press Ctrl+A to select all of
them and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+[, then delete the text.
Page references, however are not as simple. These have to be created at
each place in the text where you want the page to be referenced it the
index. This *can* in fact be done Word if you are using the text from
    the Word document.
What you really have to watch out for is that when you want to create a
page reference you have the "Reference" radio button selected in the
index panel. Otherwise you will just be creating a topic. It is best to
work with hidden characters turned on so you can see and make sure
InDesign created an index marker in the text after you created your page
    reference.

  • Power of the Press - MSI Neo4 SLI Bios Problem

For those interested, I just sent this to hardocp because they did the review on the MSI SLI Platinum.  Since MSI headlines this review on their website, maybe hardocp can do something about this bios problem.  Enjoy and please send more emails to hardocp so we can get this problem addressed!  Believe me, Ive seen this works with washington politicians, I know it can work if we all do it.
I appreciate companies like yours doing extensive reviews about products.  However, your review caused me and a whole bunch of others to purchase this board with enormous problems associated with it (check out the msi forums).  The problem is that this board works only for 130nm chips in which you tested on.  On the newer amd 90nm chips, this board is the worst performing sli board out in the marketplace (for both winni and venice core chips).  You need to do something to stop people from buying this board because its just awful and the folks from MSI are silent on the subject.
It's gotten so bad that people have gone out and purchased other sli boards, transferred all of the equipment out of it and into the new one and guess what...voila, no problems.  Anyway, some of those in the other user forums had the same problem but those other manufacturers quickly fixed the problem.  Its just getting worse and worse.  I feel like both msi (and I am MAD) and reviewers like you (unless you don't know about the problem) are silent on this and its cost me hard earned MONEY ($175 for the mobo) and hours and hours of time...
You have a LOT OF POWER with MSI and I can see it because they headline your review on their website (power of the press).   For Gods sake, please do something before others make the same mistake or if you can get MSI to allocate resources to fix the problem...you would be HEROs!  Thank you.

Also is your MOBO the SLI type? I run the SLI Neo4 with a San Diego core without any issues. In fact I dropped it in and booted using the San Diego as a direct replacement for a older (if 6 months is old!!) 3500. I have OC'ed with Corecetner as far as I can push it and runs awesome!

GUys, I am not sure exactly what issues you are experiencing as there can be MANY factors! But my SLI Neo is running awesome! It overclocks (no Tiresmoke, i won't go into that in this forum  ) and has NEVER once BSOD, or rebooted or even crashed! Not once and I push the crap out of this as it is my gaming box.  Also TS you are SO correct on the clock settings on the ultras, you gotts make sure they are the same or it will cause issues. The only thing I am kinda bummed about is the lack of real performance with the dual 6800 Ultra's, but that is a Nvidia issue not MSI. Guys I may be blessed, but I have run three Neo MSI brds, 2 939 and 1 754 and never had any issues....

Look, I have already been threatened to be banned because of my sarcastic replies to you.  Read every one of your responses I listed.  Obviously OTHERS are having problems.  WHY don't you help them instead of TAUNTING people that yours works.  They are upset, and you make them feel dumb like it's their fault.
Man I have tried to contribute so much to this issue that at least 20 different members here are having, I have tested with an Asus SLI board, I have tried different BIOS's and posted results, I have theorized with others and I feel like you are slapping me in the face by restating time and time again "what problem mine works great"i
I'm on a verbal warning because I didn't have respect for you.  Well how are you respecting the other people who have problems by saying you don't know what their issue is.  Read up on it or help them, instead of creating tension. Please?

  • NEW BIOS MSI ECLPISE SLI 7520v1A is a real BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just tested new bios 7520v1A that is offered in the live update.
I also tested the beta versions of this bios and they where also bad.
Tested it with windows7 64bit and Vista 64 bit .
Windows won't load it just hangs on the start up screen.
If i resetted windows asked me to restore system because of hardware changes.
I went back to bios 7520v190 and problem solved , windows started normal.
So don't flash to the new bios , i raised the issue to MSI today so when i got the answer i will let you know what the response is to this problem.

Look at the reply i got from Msi ,
     Dear Toms,
Sorry for any inconvenience. We tested your issue but we could not duplicate same problem, and please refer to our test configurations:
    MB: 7520-010
    Bios version: 1.a
    CPU: i7 860
    VGA: 2pcs N280GTX for SLI
    Memory: PQI DDR3 1066 2GB (PQI38500-2048DB)
    OS: win7 64bit
Now you said that you could reflash bios to version 1.9, so please continue this. If you still feel uncomfortable for this, you can contact your reseller to ask for a help.

    Noticed the core i7 860 , and 2GB ddr3 dual channel.
I clearly told them what motherboard i 'm using , here is my post to msi
I checked , there is no sticker on the pci slots , but there is one yellow that says 010 i believe this is the ERP ( i include a picture) and the ECN=01.
    So ERP=010 / ECN=01
I tried with one gtx280 and everything worked fine with bios 7520v1A. The moment i put the second gtx 280 in ,the problem returned. To let my sli work i need to go back to bios 7520v190.

  • MSI Eclipse SLI Bios 1.8

    Hey!
Is there any possibility to download this BIOS from Live Update? I don't have pendrive/floppy.

    Quote
I always flashed my bios with Live Update and never got any crash.
Yes, and? Lucky You. The failure rate (statistically) is about 6-10% and that is unacceptable.  The problem is not the Flasher itself, but the complexity of Windows as an operating system.  The statistical failure rate for DOS flashes is less than 1%.  Do you really want to take that risk (and remember, every BIOS Flash (and its consequences) are the responsability of the user (and the user alone).
BIOS v1.8 is too new and probably not in the Live Update database yet.  That is why it is not offered to you.
Anyway, MSI Live Update utilizes the AMI BIOS Winflash Utility for the actual BIOS Flash.  You can download the utility here:
    http://ami.com/support/downloadagreement.cfm?DLFile=support/downloads/amiflash.zip&InpDrvID=90
The application you have to use is in the \amibios\afuwin folder.  Depending on your operating system, you have to use the 32bit or the 64bit version.
Again, please be absolutely aware, that flashing under Windows is inherently risky.  If the flash fails because the system crashes, please do not complain here.  And if this happens, make sure you get yourself an USB Flash Drive, because you will need it to try to recovery the BIOS.
    Quote

Oh please, USB Flash drives are so cheap nowadays, that it is really not that big of a deal to get your hands on one.  I have more than ten lying around here.  Most of them where free give aways.
It does not matter if you need it afterwards or not (nobody cares), what matters is the fact that an USB Flash Drive will allow you to update your BIOS in a safe environment (DOS) and that is what counts here (and this is sufficiant reason to purchase such a device, trust me).

  • MSI Eclipse SLI BIOS not flashable

    Hi!
My PC sometimes just reboots without any notification/bluescreen or whatever, so I checked if there is any new BIOS update. I noticed that my version is still 1.10 while there is already 1.A0 available. I have updated the BIOS once before, but didn't really checked the version number.
I made an update directly after the download via Live Update and everything was successful. However, after reboot it printed still  the old BIOS version. I tried once again ... nothing. Created a bootable USB drive and used the AFUD4310 from the ZIP ... nothing, still 1.10 ...
I have found nothing about this problem. Am I missing any secret switch or how can I update the BIOS?
    Thanks, Lui

  • SQL firewall rule to restrict traffic from only one Azure PaaS website (cross-post from websites)

(This has also been posted on the websites forum)
    Hi,
I have been asked to configure the firewall on the SQL PaaS instance to only allow traffic from a specified PaaS website that is within the same subscription. I can't see any way to set a static internal IP for the website, is there a way to identify it
for the purpose of the SQL Database firewall rule?
    Thanks,
    Karina

    You're right, KG! Sorry.
    This article mentions a reserved-IP:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn690120.aspx
    It specifically mentions your scenario:
You want to ensure that outbound traffic from Azure uses a predictable IP address. You may have your firewall configured to allow only traffic from specific IP addresses. By reserving a VIP, you will know the source IP address and won’t
have to update your firewall rules due to a VIP change. This is especially helpful if you want to configure your firewall before you create your cloud service.
The only thing I'm not confident on would be if it works with Azure Websites - it does mention cloud services, though. If you have further questions, I can give a shot myself and see if I can get a working example.

VFDs come in two tastes, some with some without output filter.... Have you tried another one, maybe the filter doesn't work ?
My guess about the grounding cable was just because people are laisy. If you put in and out the VFD, why not only change the cabling for the three phases and keep the ground where it was ?!..   I'm pretty shure that there is a big nice grounding screw right beside the VFD output, and it makes sense to use it
How is the reading if you (can) place (hold) the sensor near the VFD driven motor without contact to the rigg?
According the sensor: 90-95% grounding problems ... BUT just an idea: If the sensor acts with metal objects, then by a change in the electric or magnetic field (field weakening by eddy currents...)  the sensor produce. What if the one of the switching frequences of this VFD correlates with the frequence of the sensor?    Just like some TVs goes mad if your new poversaving electronic lamp hits the IR main frequence

  • Artifacts in QuickTime 6 (cross post from OS9)

I often play (and encode) videos in QuickTime in OS9, and they have artifacts on playback, i.e. little colored squares that appear randomly and fade away after a few seconds. It appears to be a playback problem only, i.e. the artifacts are not actually encoded in the video--if you replay the same clip, you get different artifacts! For a long time, i assumed it was my video memory going or something, but i just installed OS9 on another Mac (G4/AGP) and... same thing!
Is this a known problem with QT? Or is it an OS9 problem?
The artifacts appear on video encoded using the Apple MPEG4 codec, the DivX5 codec, or the 3ivx codec. However, they DO NOT appear when the video was encoded using the Sorenson MPEG-4 codec for OS9. Someone else (everyone else?) must have experienced this.....

Are you saying that even if the video was encoded properly, QT can generate artifacts on playback if the processor isn't quite fast enough? Shouldn't it drop frames (i.e. stutter) instead..?
Yes, to an extent. This normally only happens in the case where the data rate is unreasonably higher that necessary and that can be handled by the platform involved (i.e., not simply slightly higher) which I don't really consider a case of being "encoded properly" as you put it. In this case, what you normally see is a series of frame freezes being displayed which may or may not contain block pixelations due to incomplete decoding of sub-matrix blocks (i.e., frame decoding is exited/halted before the frame being processed could be completely decoded. In this case entire segments of the movie containing dozens to hundreds of frames are being dropped/skipped between the display "freezes." This is an extreme case which is very much less common than excessively low data rates and/or using excessive keyframe intervals which produce pixelation artifacts that either fade when the next keyframe is generated or fades as the predictor-corrector algorithm oscillates back above the critical minimum data rate allocation. As to the specific differences between Sorenson and QT encoding implementations, I have always asumed the former was targeted more for low data rate use while the latter was targeted more for quality consistency over a wider scalability range. However, I may be wrong here and since you have provided no specific information as to what settings were used, how you define a "proper encode" and have not provided specific example clips for analysis, about all we can really do at this point is guess at the cause of your issue.
I'll try it on my somewhat faster 1GHz G4 and see if that plays okay, but i still can't believe a 500 MHz G4 (the one generating the artifacts) could be too slow to play a 320x240 MPEG-4 video properly.
I might agree with you if I knew more about how you encoded the content and the settings used. Most of the problems I am discussing are more common with MPEG-4 Part 10 encodes which is 2 to 2.5 times as efficient as MPEG-4 Part 2 but more CPU intensive. Basically this means the QT version of MPEG-4 Part 2 requires 2 to 2.5 times the data rate of a QT MPEG-4 Part 10 file to achieve the same level of quality but can process the content with the same or less effort. Have you tried comparing the same content encoded differently in a frame by frame comparison using the same player app?

  • Computer on the fritz - cross posted from Finder category

I don't even know if this is the right category for this topic, but I guess it's close enough.
Here's the problem. At seemingly random times of the day, for unknown reasons, my computer stop communicating properly with my keyboard. Or maybe the other way around, or possibly something else all together. What I first notice is that in Firefox (because I'm one of those people who's online all day), when I go to open a new tab, I can't type in the URL bar. It's highlighted, I've got the typing cursor and everything, but when I try to type in the URL bar, I get that "doop" noise the computer makes when you're trying to do something you can't do.
The first time, I tried quitting out of Firefox and starting it again, but that didn't work. For one, Firefox went into safe mode without warning. The computer wouldn't let me hide the program with command+H, I had to use the mouse and right click. Then I noticed it did this with other programs too. So I decided to restart my computer.
Upon restart everything seemed normal. Then, just ten minutes ago, it happened again. Except this time, when I clicked on the program icons in the dock, a Finder window of my Applications folder popped up showing that program highlighted. When I went into iTunes to search for a song, pressing just H hid the program and then opened a picture that was sitting on my desktop as I typed the rest of the search word. So I restarted again and we seem to be back to normal.
Dear Apple community, what in the world is wrong with my computer?!

Except this time, when I clicked on the program icons in the dock, a Finder window of my Applications folder popped up showing that program highlighted.
This can be done with a control click on a Dock Icon, and then select Show in Finder (try it to see).
If this is happening on its own, then maybe the keyboard is defective, an in a 'loose' control key.
If you had another keyboard handy it would be great to substitute it in order to see if the original one is flaky. Though I don't expect you to have a spare KB but if you could borrow one, would be nice.

The sound from my MSI K8N SLI Platinum nForce 4 is so low that i must set the volume control on max and the speakers on max to hear anything. I tried other speakers with the same result. The speakers are amplified.
    What can i do?

Well for a start you could search the forum as this problem is now well known. I'm not getting at you but I know how frustraing it is wanting someone to respond with an answer, and you don't have to wait if the problem has already been discussed!
The problem is that MSI decided to specify that the 24 pin supply must have -5v to support the creative chip. This is in contradiction to atx 2.2, and other PSU specs for 24pin supplys, which say the pin in question is NC (no connection).
What you need is a dual standard 20/24 pin supply.
Theres is a FAQ about this on the diamond forum, but I'm not sure if unregistered Platinum SLI users can read them anymore!
According to the FAQ MSI are promising US diamond users the chance to RMA their diamond boards when modified boards whcih don't require the -5v supply are availble. This isn't much use to us european Platinum SLI users.
I have a Tagan 480w which is dual standard 20/24 pin supply.
