Cross-references between jarred helpsets

Hello,
I have a Help system that uses several merged HelpSets. I am wondering if it is possible to create cross-references between files that are in different jarred helpsets. If it is possible, what would the syntax look like.
Thanks
Tim

I could not find a way to do this.
I ended up merging everthing into a single jar.

  • Cross-reference between structured and unstructured FM documents

    Hello,
Is it possible to retain FM cross-references from structured to unstructured FM documents during an XML round trip?
From what I know, cross-references between or inside structured documents form pairs of ID and IDREF, while cross-references to unstructured documents are dumped as normal text and lose their functionality.
The unstructured target documents might be converted to Structured FM at some point, but for the time being I'd like to find another solution. Do you know any solution to this?
    Thanks,
    Johannes

    Johannes,
This is just a guess, because I do not do this.
First, of course, you cannot export the unstructured file to XML, because it is unstructured.
Second, IF the cross-reference from the structured file to the unstructured file were done via your cross-reference ELEMENT, then the cross-reference element should export to XML as an XML element with one of its IDref attribute set to the ID of something in the unstructured file. When you open the XML file in FrameMaker, the cross-reference is re-established.
In other words, when exporting to XML, FrameMaker does not care to what you are referencing. It just converts the cross-reference element into an element with an attribute in the XML file. So, it should work as expected when opened in FrameMaker. Of course, I am assuming your read-write file is set up to handle cross-references.
On the other hand, IF you are creating your cross-reference from the structured file by simply inserting a cross-reference, that is NOT as an element, then I do not know what happens. If it is being exported as text, then I am not sure FrameMaker will know what to do with it when you reopen the XML file.
    Hope this helps,
    Van

  • TCS2 - Cross References between linked Frame files not working

    Hi,
All the cross-references in my linked in FrameMaker 9 files work when output in PDF, however, when outputting WebHelp from RoboHelp 8, FrameMaker cross references that reference another FrameMaker file (i.e. not Current) do not work. The format is correct, they appear blue and underlined like every other link/cross-reference, but when moused over in the browser, there's no link to click.  The HTML created by RoboHelp does not point to a file.  For example, here's the HTML for one link not working as shown from within RoboHelp:
    <p class="FM_Bulleted"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: 7.0pt;">&#160;&#160;&#160;</span>•<span
         style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: 7.0pt;">&#160;&#160;&#160;</span><a><span
         class="FM_Link">Create Supported App from
    Install</span></a><span class="FM_Bold">.</span>
RoboHelp appears to partially convert the link as <span class="FM_Link"> appears in the HTML  but I think there should be more information in the <a> definition, such as in the HTML created for a link that references a topic created from the same FrameMaker file.
    <p class="FM_Bulleted"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: 7.0pt;">&#160;&#160;&#160;</span>•<span
         style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: 7.0pt;">&#160;&#160;&#160;</span><a
         href="#XREF_17096_Creating_an">Creating an App</a></p>
I've ensured all the cross-references in each framemaker file in the book have the same format and are mapped to <$paratext> in the project settings. I've also tried importing the FrameMaker book instead of linking it and the same problem persists.
Any ideas on how to make RoboHelp create the link correctly?   Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Jacquie Finney

Most of the major cross reference issues have been resolved in TCS 2 with further improvements in TCS 3.
Please ensure that you have all the patches of TCS 2 installed on your system.
If the issue is still there, there could be an altogether different reason for cross reference not working or the issue might have been fixed in TCS 3.
The reason or workaround can be analysed once the sample files with the issues are provided.
It will be great if you could share a small sample FM document containing the cross reference and target having the issue. If the cross reference is across documents, then a FrameMaker book along with its FM files can be shared in a zip format.

  • Cross reference not working properly in epub exported from IDCC

    Hi,
I'm not sure whether this is a known issue within ID so forgive me for bringing it up if it is. I couldn't find any satisfying answer on this forum, hence my question.
It seems that cross references between the xhtml-docs created from split ID document during the epub export don't work properly. They link to the text anchors specified as relative links. My editor uses software compliant to many e-reader platforms that removes all the relative links between the xhtml files within any epub and replaces them by absolute hyperlinks (http://). The result is... broken links all over. Their specification asks for the the anchor entires in the content.opf file instead of the relative links. Is there a way to work it out in InDesign and have the content.opf file contain the navigation to the anchors in xhtml files within the epub?
I'm working with IDCC 9.1 btw. Would appreciate any help...
    Kind regards, Kasia

    Hi,
Not sure exactly where you gone wrong.
If you want the running sum to start from beginning for each YEAR and each LINES. Use this
=RunningSum([Sales revenue]; ([Year];[Lines]))   => Need Square brackets around Year and Lines. This forum site doesn't display square bracket correctly
If you want the running sum to start from beginning only for each LINES (regardless of YEARS). Use this
                =RunningSum([Sales revenue]; ([Lines]))
Not sure why you added ROW in your functions. Hope this help. Works for me, just tested using my efashion with the same structure are yours.

  • Cross Reference paragraphs from Word to imbedded Visio document

I have a word document with about 200 steps included which are cross referenced throughout Word.  I have a Visio flowchart that serves as a visual picture of these steps, but requires manual input and adjustment when we adjust the steps in Word.
I don't want to use the hyperlink, I'd rather have a cross reference that will auto update the step number only to match the Word paragraph number.  If I could incorporate cross references from the text in the Visio file objects to the paragraph numbers
in Word, this would save many hours at my organization.  Additionally, this is Visio Professional 2007 as I couldn't find a forum for 2007, only 2010.  I've searched many forums, but haven't come across any successful answer.  PLEASE HELP MICROSOFT!

When I've used hyperlinks, I've always tied them to bookmarks in the word document. I haven't heard of a cross-reference between the two products.

  • Word 2010 AAX Cross-references gone

I have 13 documents - "Word 10/AAX (all updates installed)", with many cross-references.
Links correctly translate to PDF including headings, TOC, websites, and cross-references WITHIN the same document, but cross-references between the 13 docs do not work.
The PDF shows the colour change, but there is no clickable link.
I am "Saving as PDF", have checked the PDFMaker settings, and have tried creating the PDF directly from AAX.

    Hi Pranav,
Yes, this is already selected. All links are correctly created, except those which cross-reference other Word 2010 documents.
I need the PDF to maintain the cross-reference as is found in the Word Doc (which is simply a link to a specific bookmark in a separate Word Doc).
In summary: One Word Doc references a specific bookmark in a separate Word Doc - so when the PDF's are created: PDF references the specific bookmark in a separate PDF.
Any other ideas would be most appreciated. Thanks!

  • Creating and updating cross-references in a book

    Hello everybody,
I created a book of several files. Now I would like to create and update cross-references from one chapter to another. What do I have to do? (I use Framemaker 8).
    Thank you for your help.
    Bye
    Vreni

For creating cross-references between chapters, open the chapter documents and insert cross-references as is done for any normal document using menu command "Special->Cross-Reference".
For updating all cross-references throughout the book, you can use the menu command "Edit->Update Book".

  • Cut and Paste Cross References

As some of you know, I'm updating a book composed of chapter files, with cross references between chapters. This used to be incredibly buggy, with crashes and broken references common. Some of that is improved in CS5.5, but a couple of big issues remain, and I'm wondering if anybody has any suggestions.
    Two problems:
You generally can't cut and paste a cross reference. I have text that says "see page 27". I want to move this somewhere else in the same document. Cut it. Paste it. The paste comes in looking like this: "see <?>" -- and you get a broken link in the Hyperlinks panel. That really limits text editing. It doesn't always happen. Sometimes you'll paste and your cross reference works. But that's rare. And you can never copy and paste. That always breaks.
Cross references refer to absolute file pathnames. I'd like to rename some chapter files. But I dare not because I assume that all cross references to destinations in those files will break.
Anybody have any suggestions for either of these things? Number 1 is a real work-stopper right now.
    Many thanks,
    Steve

Okay, guys -- I've made some progress. And I really appreciate your support, now, and in the past.
Upgrading from 7.5.2 to 7.5.3 -- no improvement,
Save a new copy of the file via Save As -- no improvement,
Export as IDML and then just double-click the IDML to open it -- worked! (Is that the correct procedure? Anything else I need to do?)
It's still just about suicidal to try and edit text in any story containing multiple cross references to chapter files that aren't open. And adding a new cross reference is super-slow, during which time you're sure you're going to crash. But with the imported file, the new cross ref held.
One other point of confusion: new cross references display differently than ones created in older versions of the software. The old ones have dark grey boxes around them. New ones have light blue boxes. No mention of this in the help file that I could find. Even if you update an old cross ref, the dark grey remains. Only starting from scratch produces light blue.
Something corrupted that file, which IDML got rid of. It was corrupted by doing little more than adding or updating a bunch of cross references, and doing some minor text editing. No images in the file, so that had nothing to do with it.
Chapter file sizes, since you asked, are anywhere from 3 to 40 mb. The file I was having problems with is only 2.5 mb. The book contains 22 chapters. Long ago I converted it from one big file to separate chapters. Easier to manage, chapter numbering works more logically and chapter starts are easier to handle. But cross references worked a lot better with the single file.
In any event, problem solved for the moment, so thanks very much again. But Adobe really needs to look at this. It's been broken for way too long.

  • Cascade Delete thru Cross-Reference Table?

I'm setting up cascade delete rules in my database and I wonder if there's a way to cascade delete through a cross-reference table?
I have a table: "projects" that can have many "tasks" (also a table). A "participation" table is the cross-reference between them and it holds other information about the relationship.
So I know I can do a cascade delete so that the participations will get deleted when either the project or the task get deleted, but can I rig something so that when I delete a project all the participations and tasks get deleted?
    Quick answers are greatly appreciated,

  • DAO Pattern: Organization and cross references

    Hello,
in general I have very good experiences using DAOs. But there are two issues, which becloud the pattern
    in my cases.
First, I am using Hibernate and strongly depend on custom entity names. So when I use a DAO, say
CustomerDAO, and need to use a join to create the result of all Products which were buyed by some
customers, I need to know the entityName carried by the ProdcutDAO. Technically this is no problem,
because CustomerDAO can instantiate a leightweight ProductDAO and retrieve the name. But then
I have a cross references between two DAOs, which couples them more, than it should be.
Another concern is to decide which operation belongs to a DAO. If I join some customer data with address
data (another entity) and some product data (e.g. find all name and adress of customer, which have a product
bought today) and have no self-contained type for this result, which DAO gets the method?

Sometimes coupling cannot be avoided. Especially in situations where you a priori know that you will need a whole graph of objects returned (regardless of whether they are fetched eagerly or lazily). You can write a composite object that links the two together. [https://www.hibernate.org/86.html]
Another concern is to decide which operation belongs to a DAO. If I join some customer data with address
data (another entity) and some product data (e.g. find all name and adress of customer, which have a product
bought today) and have no self-contained type for this result, which DAO gets the method?I think the clue is in your own response "have no self-contained type for this result". Generally, you should create an object (and in many cases an interface) for anything important. That's point #1. Another point is that you can have composite data access objects (DAO's that simply chain other DAO's together). Or, if you are opting for a service-oriented architecture [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Service-oriented_architecture], the service is a logical place to put this logic chaining DAO's together.

  • Turn off live update of cross references

I'm using Indesign CS6 and javascript.
Is there a way to temporary turn off the 'live update' feature of cross references between separate indesign files?
We find this feature to be a real pain if more than one person is trying to work with the files as it slows everything dramatically.
I've searched through the DOM and Adobe InDesign CS6 (8.0) Object Model JS: Table of Contents but I guess I don't know the right terminology to look for.
    Hope you can help.
    Thanks,
    John

Possibly you have obtained a modified version of Firefox. Preferences, chrome, js or whatever may have been modified.
If work requires you to develop on certain versions, and you are doing some of that on this computer, why not install multiple copies of Firefox, including the required versions. I trust the required versions will be the currently supported versions; at the moment that is 3.6, 6, 7, 8 or 9
You should ensure you use multiple profiles so each has a unique profile.
For the current problematic firefox 6 do a clean install, deleting the original program files, but not the profile files. (or possibly an additional install in a custom location with a new profile - allowing you to retain the current firefox 6, and a standard firefox 6) Profiles may be cloned/copied if required, bookmark libraries may be accessed from other versions/profiles if necessary, and multiple versions can be run concurrently. ( I talk from a Windows perspective, but it is unlikely Linux is going to differ)

  • Cross-reference notes

    FM 7.2
I wish to maintain conceptual consistency between two portions of text.
I'm curious as to the best way to inform the FM user, but not the document reader, of the connection between the two portions of text. I refer to this concept as
    cross-reference notes.
I think that ideally I could insert a cross reference from one portion of text to the other, a cross reference that is visible only to the FM user but not to the document reader.
I'm curious as to the best way to insert cross-reference notes.

If you create PDFs of your documents and you want working links,
then all cross-refs will be active links, even if they aren't indicated
visually. So cross-refs may not be ideal in your situation.
What you seem to be looking for is "text insets", i.e. FM text imported
by reference. These references or duplicates of text will not show up
as links in a PDF, but they will be very obvious to the FM user:
clicking in a text inset will select the entire referenced text, and
double-clicking it will open the text inset dialog.

  • Cross Reference Range?

Need to get a cross-reference to range some pages, say page 16-19
At the moment I'm creating two text anchors, one for each page, 16 and 19, then inserting the page references as two entities.
    Is there a better way?

    Eugene Tyson wrote:
Ok - doing the cross-reference range works that way
The Paragraph Numbers are done with "<paraNum />"
And I use that for the cross-reference - but sometimes it pulls the entire paragraph in instead of the Para num?
Capturing a paragraph in a cross-reference when its format is not defined with the <fullPara/> or <paraText/> building blocks, AFAIK is not a known bug.
To be sure the cross-reference format's building blocks are correct, build the format's expression by clicking the plus sign button in the Cross-Reference Formats dialog box, rather than by typing it or copying it from other defined formats.
To cross-reference a range of pages, insert a page-number format cross-reference at the beginning and end of the range. When content is added to or removed from between the cross-reference source markers, page number references adjust if needed. Take care not to delete the cross-reference markers when deleting text; it's helpful to work with hidden characters displayed. Moving a page that contains a cross-reference marker, as you'd expect, changes the page number reference.
InDesign cross-references don't update automatically; you need to click the Update cross-reference button in the cross-references panel, or click the option in the cross-references panel flyout menu,  to fix the yellow warning symbols.
