Crossfade Playback

Hi,
I'm using the XP PRO Itunes version 7.6.0.29. I'm having some problems with the "crossfade Playback" option. It works intermitently. Sometimes it will cross between songs with a slight overlap and no fade. Sometimes it will work with both the cross and the fade out and into the new song. It isn't consistent. Is thier a cure for this problem? If the previous song ends softly as recorded and the next song starts with a loud begining, it doesn't seem to work at all. Of course this is the exact situation where one would desire a crossfade playback. I can fix this in Roxio but that is an extreem fix.

As long as you're working with audio CDs and not iTMS downloads, you can, at the time of importing, use iTunes to Join CD Tracks via the Advanced menu. You can select any contiguous range(s) or songs, or a whole album. You'll get perfect playback without using the crossfader, but you'll not be able to navigate as usual from track to track when you do this.
There unfortunately aren't any players for OS X capable of playing back albums correctly (for the 10-year old Windows 95, yes, but for the newest and best OS X, no), so basically the only remedies are little workarounds like this.

  • IPod playlists & crossfade playback

I have created some great playlists in ITunes using the crossfade playback function.
Does anyone know whether I can:
    1) Transfer the playlists to my iPod with the crossfade function intact?
    2) If not, any suggestions for how I can burn the playlist to a CD with the crossfade intact.
Any help gratefully received as the playlists are for my wedding in September!

I know that you can't use the crossfade feature on the iPod, it's an iTunes only feature.
As to whether you can burn a cd with crossfade, I'm not sure. I know you can set the gap between songs to "none" but I don't think you can use crossfade.

  • Does the iphone support the "crossfade" playback option?

I'm trying without success to find an option on my iphone that would let me turn on the "crossfade" playback option for my music. I love this feature on my ipod nano and the new Itunes, but I can't seem to find that feature on my iphone's ipod. Is it just not possible to do this on the iphone?

  • What is Crossfade playback?

Hello, i have an ipod nano with itunes 7 and i dont know what the crossfade playback slider does. Does it have to do with my songs not finish, while another song picks up right away?? -Thanks!

Crossfade just blends the ends of songs, like if you set it to 5 sec, it will start the next song 5 sec before the last one stops playing

  • Crossfade Playback Causes Skipping

When I have Crossfade Playback enabled I get skipping sound during the first 6 seconds of a song. I never had this problem with iTunes before I installed v7.
    Any ideas?

I have experienced the same crossfade playback issue. Songs skip during the first six seconds when the Crossfade Playback option is enabled. This problem began immediately after the installation of iTunes v7.
I have disabled the Crossfade Playback in the Preferences - Playback Window and this has stopped the skipping, however, the CPU usage still peaks at 100% during the transition between songs. Hence, this is not a real solution and a bug still remains in the new iTunes v7.

  • Crossfade Playback & Unchecked Songs

The crossfade playback functionality works quite well and does what it is supposed to do except when the playlist contains both checked and unchecked songs. There's no crossfade at all when an unchecked song is encountered before moving on to the next checked song (I hope it's more or less clear what I mean).
Is there any way to get around this?

Rather than checking and unchecking tracks as your primary method of controlling what goes on the iPod, instead check your entire library then use playlists and smart playlists to group your stuff and you can then set up the iPod to ONLY sync playlists you pick.
For example, you might make a Smart Playlist limited to xx number of songs or xx gigs or whatever you want and the playlist is the stuff "Least Recently Played". Check live updating so this list is constantly updated. Now pick this as the playlist synced to your iPod. Each time you listen to stuff in iTunes or the iPod those items become the MOST recently played and will fall out of that list and be replaced with something new. Each time you sync your iPod, that list will refresh and you will get a constantly changing selection of stuff.
Of just create a normal (not Smart) playlist, pick that one to sync to your iPod and just manually add and delete stuff from it, keeping it under whatever space you have on the iPod. This gives you what you have now, but you can leave everything in your library checked.

  • Crossfade Playback on iPod/nanoPod?

Is Crossfade Playback on iPod/Nano possible?
    If not, why?

Yes, Yes, a thousand times yes...sort of...
Ok here was my problem. I agreed to "DJ" my mother-in-law's 70th Bday celebration. I set up my playlist in itunes and thought my ipod could crossfade. OOPS..it can't (at least not yet).
Not being one not to accept the limitations of technology (we must not let computers or their makers limit our creativity), and being cheap and not willing to buy additional hardware or software, I set upon a journey to solve this pressing global issue.
Here's a pretty lengthy but effective way to simulate the Crossfade effect on a playlist (hint: it helps if you know a little about imovie):
    1) Create your playlist in itunes
    2) Open imovie and import the tracks
    3) Alternate the tracks between the 2 available audio tracks
    4) Edit each track fade in and out as necessary by overlapping individual tracks and if necessary usiing the volume adjustment faders in imovie. It takes a little practice but you'll be mixin' like a pro in no time.
    5) Export to quicktime. Imovie requires video to export, so instead of video I added a 1 second picture from my iphoto library.
    6) I downloaded freeware from versiontracker called "Extract Movie Soundtrack" and ran the program to remove the video from my quicktime file and created a aiff.
    7) Import the aiff file into itunes and TAA DAA..you have a playlist with the crossfade you have created and always wanted.
I do hope that Apple includes crossfade in a future update of ipod software.
    Goodluck and happy ipodding.

  • Crossfade playback doesn't work in nano

I've created a playlist with crossfade between each song. When I play it back on my laptop it works fine, but not on my nano.

  • What is Crossfade Playback&Sound Enhancer &should equalizer be on or off?

What exactly do both of these do? I still have mine I think on the default settings though I have turned off the Crosfade playback a few times while importing cds. Also seen the equalizer on iTunes is on with it on flat and wondering if should turn it off on iTunes because I keep the equalizer off my Ipod most off the time .Thank-You

Crossfade Playback overlaps the currently playing track with the next track. The time setting indicates how long an overlap you get at the end of the currently playing track. It basically fades the currently playing track out, and fades the next track in. This setting has no effect on importing CDs.
Sound Enhancer makes changes to the sound during playback to make the sound 'better' for small or low powered speakers that you get with computers or laptops.
The equalizer on iTunes also affects playback in iTunes only, not your iPod. Your iPod equalizer applies to all tunes played back on your iPod only. But if you have assigned a specific Equalizer Preset to a song in iTunes, your iPod will play according to that setting if your iPod Equalizer is set to Off.

  • ITunes 7.0.1.8 / xp --- love/hate relationship with seamless playback

I always hated the artificial gaps between tracks, so I was really excited when I heard about seamless playback. That's the main reason I upgraded iTunes. The problem is that seamless playback seems to really hog system resources on my pc. Since it is typically a second or so between tracks it wasn't a huge deal to me. Other than the resource issue it worked fine. Well, today I'm listening to Odelay by Beck. The last track on the album is Ramshackle and the main part of the song runs about four minutes or so... followed by about two minutes of silence... and then a bunch of noise which concludes the track and the album. The total track length is 7:29. During the silent two minutes the CPU usage on my pc suddenly jumped to 100% and basically froze my pc for two minutes. This is unacceptable. Has anything been done in iTunes 7.0.2 to rectify this? I'm a little hesitant to upgrade again, so if this is still an issue I'll probably hold off.
    Thanks.

  • Is crossfading possible on iPod classic

Is crossfading feature available on iPod classic ?

Crossfade playback is diffrent, the last few seconds of a song are overlapped by the next song in normal playback, unless its a gapless album. but as far as I know and acording to that link only the 4th gen and 5th gen nano are capable of crossfade... oh well apple will figure that out one of these days.

  • Constantly determing gapless playback information

When I sync my iPod, import a new song, or add a movie to iTunes (and even at random times) iTunes will determine Gapless Playback information. This is rather irritating, but I want to make sure there is no problem with my library (i.e. corrupt library file or something). It's bugging the crap out of me, and further, I don't want my library to suddenly stop working (I've had that before, less than a picnic, to be sure).
Does anyone else have this problem, or more importantly, a suggestion as to a solution? I have checked through the kbase and the discussions and it seems this isn't an isolated incident, yet no solution popped up.
and yes, I do have to have it on...Dark Side of the Moon (as well as others) sounds horrible without it on.
    Thanks much,
    Macinator

Deselecting "part of a gapless album" only affects Crossfade Playback. If it's checked, Crossfade Playback won't fade one track out and fade the next one in; it has no other purpose.
All iTunes tracks should be gapless. Just let it finish the process once, and you won't have to worry about it again.

  • Imported image stretches on playback

I'm starting an edit using footage from a HVX200. Most of the footage was imported through P2CMS then FCPs log and transfer but 1 clip wouldn't come through P2CMS for some reason (still unknown). The trouble clip was brought in through log and transfer only. When inserted in the timeline it looks fine when paused but stretches horizontally (to the left/right) when in playback. Anyone know what's going on here??

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
This is most likely crossfade fadeback.
Go to edit-->preferences. Click the playback tab. Uncheck crossfade playback.
