Crossgrade Program Procedure Is Bad Idea

It requires everyone to send all their original programs disc to Indiana, and hope the fulfillment team gets right.
If they don't you are out of luck.
If the discs are lost, you are out of luck.
If you have to reinstall following a crash, you are out of luck.
Apple will probably pull this thread, but this is not a good idea.
Email Apple where you can, because there really isn't a good place.

If you are not purchasing Intel units yet, why do you
need the Universal version?
This is not the correct assumption. For those who have Final Cut PRO 5 and want to add Motion, DVD Studio Pro 4, or Soundtrack Pro to our studios, we HAVE to use this upgrade program REGARDLESS OF PLATFORM. Apple no longer sells the aforementioned applications standalone, so if you DO NOT own Final Cut Studio, you are forced into this dubious upgrade scheme.

  • Removing iTunesHelper from start-up programs, a bad idea?

I would like to remove iTunesHelper from my start-up, is this a bad idea? Will it hurt iTunes performance?
    Thank you.
I would also like to remove QuickTime Task, that ok?
    Message was edited by:adding info

    it won't hurt at all:
This is what the iTunes helper does, it makes it so whenever you connect an iPod/iPhone/iPad/etc., if you have the option to do so enabled in iTunes, it will automatically open iTunes for that device.
So, remember that checkbox "Run iTunes when this device is connected?" in your iPod screens? Yup, iTunes Helper is the tool that helps manage this and determine the device is connected, and runs iTunes if it is not open.
That said, if you like this feature, then you'll want to keep it around. If you disable it, when you connect a device, iTunes will not open automatically, even if you specifically told it to do so before, since it requires iTunes Helper to do that.
However if you don't care for this, and wish to open iTunes manually, then there is no problem with removing it from your startup.
I am not sure about the quicktime task. sorry

  • Storing files on top level a bad idea?

    Hi all,
I was wondering if there is any problem with storing files on the top level of my Mac, the level that has the Applications, System, Library and Users folders. I know some apps will have issues if they or their components are installed here, but is this generally a bad idea?
    Thanks.

is this generally a bad idea?
No, but some backup software programs may not see them if they're put there. If you have more than one user account on the computer, the other accounts may not be able to save changes to them.

  • Some bad idea

I know IT IS bad idea to post something twice. But... I'd like answers... and this is java game development.
I need little cross platform compare
I need to know differinces between computers and operating systems. You should write: (no need for precise numbers ^_^)
    System: (Windows 98)
    Processor: (300 celeron)
    Memory: (220)
    swap: (big/low)
Last number on default configuration: (911)
    in less than 15 minutes
Last number on special configuration more than 1500
If it will take more than 2 hours to finish, please write down last number and stop this.
If you could do this, you would be very helpful.
It is not some kind of easy program so you could save me form some mistakes after year of programing.

ok your code blows up at iteration 900 odd with an OutOfMemoryError.
so first i changed it to do 900 iterations...
the time in milliseconds = 9203
than i changed it to do 1500 iterations and i set a maximium heap size of 1 gig
the time in milliseconds = 25927
than i set a maximum heap size of 1 gig and an intial heap of 500 megs
the time in milliseconds = 19058
here is how i modified you code to capture the time...

  • Novell Vibe. Bad Idea

    Hello.
My first idea is Novell add the capabilities of Novell Pulse and Novell Teaming on a new product named Novell Vibe. Guau, what pretty cool product i have with the capabilities of Teaming and the capabilites of Pulse
But two days ago, i saw y the have DIFFERENT products for the same PRODUCT NAME. They are causing a lot of confusion on my hand.
I Think its a BAD idea to put two different products with different funcionalitys with the same name.
The idea of sell the product on Cloud or OnPremise its a choice of the client, or the manner of sales a product. But to get two differentes products with the same name its a BAD idea.
If you want to offer one product , on the cloud or on promise, fantastic but, you can not putt a name with a different funcionality because you are adding confusion on what do you need and how do you get.
I Am seeking a forum for vibe, but i don t see any .

  • Is it a bad idea to use Time Capsule to access my iTunes music?

I'm thinking about putting all of my music on my time capsule and making iTunes access it through that.
Is this a bad idea for any reason? I'm thinking that there could be a few seconds of delay when playing a song or something, which I don't really mind.
The other thing I thought is that this could be bad because if my Time Capsule fails, then I lose my music, whereas if I store my iTunes music folder on my computer, it will be backed up by Time Machine, and therefore be in 2 safe locations instead of 1.
    Anybody have any thoughts/suggestions?

  • How to make use of values in calling program in a badi

    Hi
I have a badi implementation. i need to make use of some values in the program in the BADI. how do i access values in the program in the BADI.
    Regards,
    Chaitanya

    You can try this:
E.g (replace the table and program names with the one you need).:
      CONSTANTS: c_resbd(15) TYPE c VALUE '(SAPLCOIH)resbd'.
      FIELD-SYMBOLS: <fs_resbd> TYPE resbd.
      ASSIGN (c_resbd) TO <fs_resbd>.
If this doesn't work try exporting the variables you need to memory from a field/user exit.

Have no idea of what you were even doing in Photoshop my crystal ball is out for repairs so I can not see.

Try resetting Photoshop Preferences.   Use your Photoshop start icon to launch Photoshop and immediately press and hole Shift+Ctrl|CMD+Alt|Option keys   Photoshop should Prompt you with Do you want your Preferences deleted. Reply yes.   Photoshop should then delete your user ID preferences and then create a default set of preferences for your ID and start successfully.

  • Pulling a program out of the IDE

I have been playing with pulling small progrograms out of my Integrated development environment (IDE); writing them to CD; and installing them on other desktops, just as an exercise in the case I want to deliver some applications to a friend.
The overall requirements(steps) are not clear to me.
    1.the directory organization
    2. the file (jar) creation
    3. the D0S (java.exe) window
Are some of the issue that come to mind.
I have been able to use a desktop icon and set the path to a program.class file and run it--making the program window appear but the java.exe Dos window also appears.
So far, the number of texts I have give no step by step instructions on how to configure an environment without an IDE with the java VM already intalled, or how to pull a program out of the IDE and install it along with a copy of the VM on another machine.

Good question. Lot's of people don't know this, and I can't even say I have all the right answers. There are probably numerous ways you could do this. The best way, if you have the money, is to buy something like InstallAnywhere or Wise that provide professional installations. Not only will your install look like professional installation of stuff like Photoshop, etc but it will also handle issues like OS platform specifics, environment variables, registry entires (if possible), the proper JRE/JDK installed... if not install it, uninstallation features, and so forth. That is by far the best way to go.
However, often you just want to bundle something up and send it out to a few friends, family, etc. You could of course look for an open source or freeware utitlity and no doubt there are some out there. Or, you could do what a lot of people do now, use the Ant tool (written in Java) and have a build script that does everything for you. I have a simple template build script that is used for various tasks. In our work setup, it does local dev (incremental) compiles, and if necessary packaging it up into .jar/.zip files. My single build script can also run junit tests and reports, builds executable packages into .zip and .jar's as necessary, will do a clean build (great for making sure any code changes don't break some code elsewhere, thus ensuring that your normal incremental build process is not missing something), it can FTP or copy files to locations, it can email results, and so forth. If you don't know about ant, I STRONGLY suggest you learn it quickly, and to me there is no better way than buy the book Java Development with Ant. Two of the main Ant developers/committers wrote the book and it does an excellent job of teaching you about all the different uses of Ant, including the template build script I now use. It is well worth the $40 or so you'll find the book for, and within a week you'll have a good build template that you can modify for specific projects.
Now, in terms of the 3 things, well, the directory organization is always changing. Each project may have something different, but here is one that I usually use:
    <root project dir>: (below this you'll find)
/src - location of all src files
/src/java - the location of the project specific java code
/src/examples - if need be (especially useful for frameworks and API's you wish to share) show example applications using the output of the /src/java code
/src/test - location of JUnit, jfcUnit and other test files to unit test your code (very important, should be done no matter what!!)
/lib - location of any 3rd party libraries you need, both for compilation and runtime. Keep in mind that your build script may pull only a subset of these libraries in for runtime. For example, the /src/test that uses JUnit will require the junit.jar file. You won't need this for runtime, so your build script sets up a compile classpath with junit.jar, and a runtime classpath that will exclude junit.jar, perhaps others.
/dist - the location that the build script puts all distributable files. This would be any executable .jar file, any .zip file, perhaps other files necessary for distribution. If you were making a large application and planned to burn it to disk, instead of a single .zip file, you may actually build the sub-dirs below the /dist/<your app> type of dir, so that you can simply burn from that <your app> dir to the root of the cd.
    /build - location of all compiled classes, including from /src/java, /src/examples, /src/test.
/build/classes - the location of compiled java code
/build/test - the location of test results, including perhaps test data to be used by the test code, and possibly the output dir of test reports
    - /build/test/reports for example for output of test reports.
/doc - location of any documentation, including the JavaDoc produced by the build script from your src.
<project root> - this is the location of your build.xml ant build script, if need be. The build script, as you would learn in the book, is set up so that you can move it anywhere and it will still build your project correctly. You may opt to put it in the /scripts dir instead and keep the project root super clean.
/misc or /etc - common location to put things like properties files, misc files used to build projects. For example, in the building of a EJB application (.jar or .ear file), you will no doubt need the META-INF/application.xml file. Or in a .jar file you need a special META-INF/manifest.mf file. The /misc or /etc dir is a good candidate for these types of things. You can even package it up in your app so that in the .jar file you have /etc/properties/somepropertyfile.properties, and in your code do a simple getClass().getClassLoader().getResource("/etc/properties/somepropertyfile.properties") to always ensure you pull it from this directory. OR, your build script can "change" the location this file goes. It is all up to you.
That is what I use for all my projects, the dir structure anyway. What you do to build your .jar/.zip files is up to you. You usually don't need to pull the /src dir, the /dist dir, etc into your .jar/.zip files. Normally you'll have the compiled classes at the root. So in your project dir on your disk, you may have <project root>/build/classes/java/org/mycompany/ui/Main.class, and in your .jar file it would simply be <root of .jar file>/org/mycompany/ui/Main.class, and your build file can easily "change" the root path (using <zipfileset prefix=""> task) to change the path of any file. But more of that can be learned in that book and by looking up resources on the net. The Ant JavaDoc API is very good at explaining most of these as well, and there are TONS of ant scripts in most projects to look at for examples.
The file creation, well, as I said Ant has built in tasks you can use to create .jar files, .zip files, etc. All of that is all built in to how Ant works.
As for java.exe, well, in a professional app, you usually do one of two things. You either write a simple C/C++/Delphi/some other languages .exe wrapper (for windows) that internall executes the java.exe and runs the JVM to hide the window, as well as provide a .exe file to look more "native", or you run javaw.exe, which hides the Console output window for most apps. NOTE: if you create a .bat shortcut on your desktop to javaw.exe, you will STILL get a console window that shows up. ALL shortcuts to .bat files will always create a console window. Many java developers don't understand why they run javaw.exe from a shortcut on their desktop and still see the console window.
Now, hopefully that helped a bit. But if not, or you still have questions, I am watching this thread so fire away and I'll help more.

assuming you didn't/don't use photostream I need a couple things cleared up first... did you back up your phone before updating to iOS 6 and if you did, was it on a PC or Mac?

Briansyddal - you might be able to manage your phone without a PC, but many of us can't, especially those of us with large iTunes libraries.  How do you propose I manage my 250GB of music using only a phone?  Maybe I could go out and buy 10 iPhones and spread my library out among them!
Catz537 - I have the same problem as you and I've spent hours on the web trying to find a solution to it.  It was a problem with iOS 7 and  8.1.1 doesn't fix it.  The the only advice from Apple is completely useless because it requires you, effectively, to delete and recreate your iTunes library and lose all your metadata, album art, notes etc and there's also no guarantee it will work.   I wish I could be more help (even more - I wish Apple could be more help) - I updated to 8.1.1 at 1400 today.  At 2200 I'm still "waiting for changes to be applied" for a measly 16GB of music transfer.

  • Calling program for a BADI

    Hi experts,
I had created an implementation for a BADI. How do i link this implementation to the calling program.
In the first place can you please tell me how do i find the calling program using a BADI in general.
    Will appreciate your help.

Badi's are called based on user action and the transaction. You can use the reverse approach to find when you badi is getting triggered. Say for example you inplemeted a Purchase order BADI the only way to find id you code will be triggered is by putting a break point in the code and executing the transaction. If you have not implemeted the badi yet you can use the below steps to find if the badi is triggered by the transaction.
hese steps should enable you to find any BADI related to any transaction.
    1) Go to the transaction SE37 to find your function module.
    2) Locate the function SXV_GET_CLIF_BY_NAME.
    3) Put a breakpoint there.
    4) Now open a new session.
    5) Go to your transaction.
    6) At that time, it will stop this function.
    7) Double click on the function field EXIT_NAME.
    8) That will give you name of the BADI that is provided in your transaction.

  • Welcome to Crossgrade Program h*ll

    Hi All,
So I am one of those who is going through the Final Cut and Logic Express Crossgrade programs. I love Apple products, but sometimes the process to get said products are convoluted. The Logic Express 7.2 Crossgrade Program is an example. Those who are familiar with it know that you snail mail your original disks to an address in Indiana, and then wait. If you don't get anything in the mail, there's a status check online that you can do. I just did, and that's where the pain begins.
My status shows Rejected. No reason. No contact numbers. Just Rejected. So I called the Apple Store yesterday, and the nice lady there said she couldn't help me, but told me to call the number on the order form that originally went with the disk.
Thankfully I had kept copies of the original form. I looked at both my Final Cut and Logic upgrade forms. Same credit card numbers used, same expiration dates, but the Final Cut order went through no problem. Hmm, warning flag #1.
Anyway, I called the number on the form. Another nice lady told me that the Final Cut order shipped (hooray) and the Logic order was rejected because the expiration date for the credit card was wrong (this was warning flag #2). I told her that since I had sent in for both the Final Cut and Logic upgrades, using the same credit card, I found that strange. I asked if I could give her the information again. The response was "no, you have to fax it in, here's the fax number." Warning flag #3.
So I redid my information, faxed it to the number. I was all done by noon. This morning I rechecked my status online, and sure enough it still shows as rejected. I called the customer service number again, and this time I was told the same thing as yesterday. I said that I faxed all that information in, and was told fax it again. I asked if there was anyone else I could talk with about this, and was told "no".
Here's the problem: Apple, you have my original disks. I'm faxing credit card information to god knows where. I can't seem to get a straight answer, and all I want is my $29 crossgrade. I can't find any email links to the crossgrade program customer service, nor is there any apparent escalation path. Calling isn't doing any good, because even though the rep can tell me the status, they can't help me resolve any issues.
If anyone has any recommendations, I would greatly appreciate it because I feel like I'm operating in a black hole right now.
    Thanks.
    17 Powerbook and 2.7 Dual G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I couldn't believe they wanted me to mail my original disk in and wait for a lousy 29 bucks..I spoke to 10 people at apple before they finally said there was no other way.
    So I havent upgraded..
Why not have it as a download for gods sake!@#$%^&

  • Distributed encoding of referenced movies --bad idea?

Distributed encoding of referenced movies (using Compressor) --is this a bad idea? If you do this routinely and it works for you, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Cris

    Nebraska,
Thanks for your reply. I am trying a home network to see if I can cut down my encoding time and increase my capacity on existing equipment. What I have is outlined in "other details" below. Because of the limitations, I am putting highest priority on trying to find out what has been causing problems with my real time mp2 transcoder nor recoginizing some Quicktime files and consider the Qmaster distributed processing for batch processing files for web streaming. For now, thtis will have to do.
I see the sense of having a dedicated server for the source footage. But I need to do things peer to peer. I use to oversee a WinNT server years back. Its been awhile. Do you would log into each of your G5 quads as the same domain user (or Mac OSX server equivalent)? Is one of your G4's (not the server) the controller? Is the same machine both controller and client?
For the referenced movie I tried, it took many many hours --at least several times longer than if I did the job on a single machine. However, that was when I only had a cluster of two. I might try again with three.
