Crosstab disappearing data

I'm looking for help on a cross-tab report in a web app. The report has 17 rows grouped into 5 categories, and 7 columns in 4 categories. The data (and also the whole cell) is not showing when the data is zero for only one of the rows, all of the other rows show the zero fine. There is nothing wrong with the groupings, they all match, and I can see no reason why these columns won't show. Another thing (I'm not sure if this matters or not) is, the group this row is in has only the one member.
Please help, I'm tearing my hair out with this.

It's kind of hard to visualize the report and the issue, but one thing that came to mind is if any of the rows contain null data?
I don't know if the reason is because of null data but it's a shot. To address this, I would create a formula that checks the field to see if it's null (first condition in the formula) and if it is, return some default value. Then use the formula field in the crosstab to see if the issue goes away.
If all else fails, try using BOBJ support as it may be important to actually see the report with data to help troubleshoot the issue.

sure, i can back it up on icloud but it's an inconvenience that these glitches even occur

Apple consultant told me to use McDonalds free wifi but they cant keep a connection long enough
to update software plus nowhere to plug in ...if i contact apple for advice i think they'll slug me $40 or so
is there an apple community i could hook up with here in adelaide, south australia?
if not, why not? it's about time there WAS an apple base here!

Disappearing data in Numbers

I was finishing a longish spreadsheet in Numbers this afternoon and after saving it and closing Numbers, I had to reopen the file to print it again and to my utter shock all the data in the rows except the header row had disappeared. In Cover Flow in Finder, I still see all the data, but when I open the file, I get a blank file with just my header row.
Anybody knows how I can recover this file?

When a file is wrongly saved, the datas are lost PERIOD.
May I mention that I find it really silly reading messages like yours assuming people have no computer skills and are ignorant.
I take all the necessary precautions and do have a back up file. However, I did not want to repeat the hard work I had put in the last two hours and furthermore, I wanted to flag up a problem and maybe find an easier way of recovering the data instead of having to work from the back up file.
It's exactly what I was describing as a silly behavior.
If you loose two hours of duty it's that you didn't save frequently.
Every ten minutes is good pratice and this is why my autosave uses this period.
The odd saving process may have different reasons:
(1) a physical oddity, a short electric breakdown is one of the possible ones.
a problem with the HD or with the ram can't be rejected.
(2) one or several bugs in the application.
I'm pretty sure that such bugs exist and I sent several examples of corrupted files to Apple Bugs Hunters.
We have to wait for a correction and before its delivery, we must work a more careful way that what you did.
I may understand that you don't like what I wrote but applying that is the best thing to do to reduce the risks

Crosstab with date values

I need to create a crosstab report that has date values in the cells not numbers but the report is displaying NaN. Is it possible to display a char or date value ?

Crosstab - Quarterly Date Range Column - Need to Print 1st Qtr, 2nd Qtr,etc

I am using Crystal 2008.
I have a column in a cross tab that pulls from a date field. In the crosstab expert, in the group options for the column, I have indicated to sort in a specific order, by quarter. In the specified order tab, I have created the orders for 1st Qtr, 2nd Qtr, 3rd Qtr, and 4th Qtr.
However, the colum heatding prints with the the dates of 01/2010, 04/2010, 07/2010, and 10/2010 instead of 1st Qtr, 2nd Qtr, 3rd Qtr and 4th Qtr.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The date in the column (which is the only column) is a date field MM/DD/YYYY. The column name use to print correctly (1st Qtr, 2nd Qtr, 3rd Qtr, 4th Qtr) and now it suddenly started printing 01/2010, 04/2010, 07/2010, 10/2010. In the crosstab expert, I have the date field in the column section and under group options, I have set it to print in a specified order. In the specified order tab, I added named groups for each quarter. When defining the named groups, each group was set to look at the date field for the correct quarter. For example, the name group "Qtr 1" is defined as "in the period " "Calender1stQtr". That is what is in the drop-down boxes for me to choose when defining the named groups.
This data is correct. It is pulling data and putting the information in the correct columns. It is just the heading that will no longer print in the format I want. This report has been available for some time and it has always worked correctly. We have not modified or upgraded the Crystal product, so I'm not understanding why it won't still work the same way without having to try to create other formulas. The named group section has the criteria I need in the drop down boxes.

Handling Crosstab like Data

I have a situation where I need to keep track of Data that looks like a crosstab report.
ie let us say there are 2-6 kinda close sets of data
like the eg. below. the #of columns could be 3 -6 variable
depending on the set. The time interval could vary depending on the set.

there are more records for the next day and so on.
There earlier method of 'storing' this data was crude just have as many fields in a table as there are cells and 1 record per day.
My method is to have (unit#,day, time,fruit_id, value) in my table and have tons of records.
I can produce output that looks like the cross tabs above using reports from my new table,but how to organize the form?
since each record now is too small, it will mean many saves.
I could have a block with many lines and lovs for unit,fruit_id and time and hit one save but it may not be intuitive.
Or I can have a non db table block that looks like the cross tab grid, and then do manipulation to create many records that I want.
eg> canvas_1 - unit1
time apple orange banana
7 1 3 8
9:00 2 8 7
then create 6 records internally.
Which way should I organize the form?

You can further normalise observation into two or even three as shown below.
e.g
observation
(observation_id,observation_name,observation_type)
observation_details
(observation_id, observation_detail_id,patient_id,obervation_date,observation_notes)
observation_results
(observation_detail_id,observation_result_id,resultA,resultB,resultC,resultETC,result_status,result_notes)
You can now be able to have the same observation and stored different results as many times as possible (including incorrect ones). Use the Status as a key to select the valid result)
NOTE: This is just a personal sample out of my head which you can expand or reduce as much as you can. It does not represent the design you MUST use.

Disappearing Data Template

I have created a report in XML Publisher Enterprise that is based on a Data Template, sometimes when I return to edit the "Data Model/DataSet" my Data Template has disappeared and I am presented with a "New DataSet/SQL Query" in the "Data Model/Data Set", although if I view the report.xdo file it still contains my Data Template. If I run the report it still runs correctly. I recover by pasting the DT from the XDO. I've tried different browsers IE/Netscape/FireFox. Any ideas why my DT is not correctly displayed?

Spoke to our developers and due to performance reasons right now you need to get all the data in the query. So you would have something like:
Select DEPTNO,
empdata.get_deptname(DEPTNO) as DEPT_NAME
from dept......
where empdata.get_deptname is the function/procedure to retrieve the department name.
If we can solve the performance problems we'll support this in the grouping section.

I have some videos that when converted to podcast have disappeared in itunes but show up in appletv. How can I show and get rid of them or reindex to get rid of them? (This seems to be the case in both my mac book and windows machine)

I ran into the same problem when I imported some MP4s then changed their Kind to Podcast while leaving the Album field blank. It created an "Unknown Podcast" folder containing the MP4 files in my iTunes Media Library, but I couldn't find the assets in iTunes under any category. I deleted the MP4 files and the "Unknown Podcast" folder without deleting them through iTunes since I couldn't find them.
When I added the Smart Playlist with Media Kind set to "Podcast", I noticed the assets that were created in the past. The problem now is I couldn't delete them, so now the assets were going to exist forever without any file to link to. They remained with a "!".
To fix this, I dragged the same files in. I changed their status to Podcast with the Album field blank, then I re-linked them from Smart Playlist. From there, I changed their Album data to a temporary name as well as changed their Media Kind to Movie, so they would be removed from the Smart Playlist. From the Movie category, I deleted them, and they are gone for good! They don't appear in any Smart Playlist marked with Media Kind as Podcast or Movie.
Thanks for sharing the Smart Playlist trick because this helped me resolve my dead-end asset issue.

The Case of the disappearing data

I don't know if this problem is unique to me & could well mean I have a defective 3G iPhone. One day about 2 weeks ago I went to listen to music on my iPhone & was greeted by the musical note (meaning no songs available). On looking under settings, general, about it showed zero songs, but still showed the free space available as when 840 songs were present. I performed a restore on the phone, but it said I had a corrupt backup. My only backup choice available was the sync from my previous 2G iPhone, which I selected & finished out the restore. All my songs were restored, but since then I have not been able to reconnect with my company's exchange server using the same settings as before. I was hoping the 2.1 update would solve my problems, but I am still unable to get the Exchange email to work. Today I received a text message from my wife & noticed it was just displaying her mobile # & not her name. I looked in contacts & every entry displayed the contact name only but non of the other info (address, phone numbers, etc.). I reset the iPhone & my contact info fortunately was restored via Mobile Me, but I still think I have issues. Has anyone experienced these kinds of issues with data? All total I have lost the songs on this twice & just experienced the contacts glitch today.

This has been reported before. Its a database corruption.
The missing music can usually be fixed without a restore.
Usually, buying one song from itunes store or adding one song thru the iTunes sync will fix things up.
Your contacts may have a similar problem, or it could be MobileMe. There have been lots of problems with Mobile Me, so much so that I just avoid it all together.

PLEASE HELP DISAPPEARING DATA ON ITUNES AND MAC

Last night i synced my mum's iphone on my laptop to update to the new OS 4.2 - It took about 40 minutes to back up then restored and reset.
After this is said restore from back up .... with a list.
The list didn't contain my mums backup only my previous backups on my account and my mums apple account no longer exists not only in itunes but all together.
I have been through the hard drive on my back and there is no data anywhere which shows the time and backup of my mums iphone.
The iphone is completely wiped and the apple account no longer exists, can someone help me and tell me if there is a way i can get the data back? i have used the iphone back up extractor and it isn't there - it must be somewhere as it took forever to backup.

You need to not just
i find
your PC music, but also get it back into the iTunes Library. As long as all the songs are in your iTunes, then when you sync the iPod, it will not erase any songs on it.

Another Easier Alternative:
While connecting the iPod to the computer, hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys in Windows (CMD + Option keys on a Mac). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes. The iPod will then appear in the iTunes source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto-sync and then you can release the keys. This action may take between 3 and 25 seconds depending on your computer.
You can then right-click on the iPod icon in iTunes source column and select iPod Options, then check the box that says Manually manage songs and playlists. You can now manage your library without losing any songs on the iPod.

Slippery problem: disappearing data from SMB shares

I have an Xserve running 10.5.8 serving as a Samba PDC for my school. Clients are using XP Pro SP2. Every user gets a home directory which is mounted at logon as a mapped drive, and a profile folder which contains the Desktop, My Documents, personal settings, etc.
Every so often a student comes to me because they lost data from their profile. It's a very hard thing to diagnose; often it's user error, but I think not always. Sometimes I can find the missing file(s) on the local drive of the Windows machine if I log on as the local admin, but again, not always. Today I had a student lose a 7-page term paper and he was beside himself. I couldn't find it on the client machine or anywhere on the server.
Has anyone encountered such a problem, or have any other suggestions for how/where to look?

Using OpenDNS is not an option for me for one reason alone: I need to use our internal Nameserver in order to resolve internal IP-Addresses.

To me that sound's a bit unlikely since half of mankind would then suffer from this issue...but still possible
I tried to put the IP Address of the SMB server (which also is the Active Directory Server) into /private/etc/hosts.
This alone did not help. I then realized with help of Google that OS X would not consult /privat/etc/hosts ( == /etc/hosts) by default when using DHCP.
I was under the assumption that /etc/hosts would always the evaluated in first place.
This made me look at /etc/resolv.conf. And I added "order hosts, bind" to it. Unfortunately I can't really tell if that is a supported directive by OS X. The resolv.conf man page is not explicit about it.
Since I'm using DHCP the file resolv.conf is updated by the OS whenever I change network config. And I do change it a lot...
I've written a quick sh script that I can call to add the order directive to the file.
It's:

mv /var/run/resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf.new
echo order hosts, bind > /var/run/resolv.conf
cat /etc/resolv.conf.new >> /etc/resolv.conf
While is can only be considered a dirty hack, I'm not sure it's the real solution to the problem.
After making the change connection seems to work better on the LAN. There are still situations though when fetching the directory content is very slow from Finder.
The hack is not an option at all when I'm on a VPN connection. I assume that this is due to the fact that /etc/resolv.conf might not be used for the VPN connection.

Disappearing data!!

For some reason when a change the content in my table in column c anytime i click out of the column the content disappears and doesn't reappear until i double click back in. How do I stop this?

What version of Pages '09, disappearing text is usually because you haven't up dated it to the latest version which is now v4.3:

Hi,
Does anyone know how to present an XML datasource into a Crosstab format?
I've read one document suggesting the use of the SUMIF function - which is novel, but I reckon that's a pretty poor way to have to do it.
Does anyone have a better method?

Strange things, disappearing data....

Okay, people, i have a somewhat strange problem...
I've got a new 80 GB vid-iPod, and yesterday, i put something over 45 GB of music and video's on it.
It worked superb, but, when i later on synchronised again, a lot of numbers (which are still displayed in iTunes AND on the iPod)just won't play, the iPod can't find them. (iTunes can btw). So i looked at info, and my free space on the iPod is 64 GB! But it also says that i used 45...
So what i basically have, is around 25 GB of 'ghost'-music, it's listed, but it isn't there anymore...
Can someone tell me what this might be?

Well, let me give you some more info... It basically skips through the songs untill a song does play, and that is once in every ten songs or so...
Plus, in iTunes, no exclamations or outgreying is present, it all looks very healthy...
(and all files copying again takes me 48 hours or so, i hope you have a nice solution! ;))
