CRS Features

Hi Experts,
Need some help in understanding the following concepts:
CRS Deamon is responsible for maintaing the high availability of the resources in the RAC envi. What resources is it maintaing are they ASM,DATABASE,LISTENER,GSD,GCS,ONS please help me in understanding this feature.
CSS is responsible for group services, what exactly are group services?
Cluster interconnects: IS this used only for interinstance communication or is it also used for files transfer for exmaple lets say for transfering the installtion files from one node to another?
Please advice
Thanks for your help in advance.

Thanks for the help sir,
I am using this guide as my reference but not able to get the indept meaning of the core functionality offered by crs in terms on Resources and Services and CSS in terms of Group service.
Does CRS restarts any failed resources such as asm,db,listeners, nodeapps etc...
Please help me to clarify the fundamental concept..
-Thanks

  • MULTIPLE USERS 10G RAC ORACLE_HOME INSTALL WITH ASM/CRS

    Hi,
We need to install multiple 10g RAC databases on a two node Sun servers. Below is our configuration:
    1) Sun Solaris (ver 10) with Sun Cluster 3.2
    2) One ASM/CRS install (by 1 OS account)
    3) Four ORACLE_HOME 10g database install (by 4 different OS user accounts)
We would like to use one ASM instance for all four databases with appropriate privileges.
    OS User:           OS Group
    ========      =========
oraasm           dbaasm - (ASM and CRS install owner)
    ora1           dbaora1 - first db owner
    ora2           dbaora2 - second db owner
    ora3           dbaora3 - third db owner
    ora4           dbaora4 - fourth db owner
I understand that certain privileges need to be shared between ASM/CRS and DB owners. Please let me know the steps to be followed to complete this install.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
    Please read that: Documentation http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B10766_08/intro.htm
    - You can install and operate multiple Oracle homes and different versions of Oracle cluster database software on the same computer as described in the following points:
-You can install multiple Oracle Database 10g RAC homes on the same node. The multiple homes feature enables you to install one or more releases on the same machine in multiple Oracle home directories. However, each node can have only one CRS home.
-In addition, you cannot install Oracle Database 10g RAC into an existing single-instance Oracle home. If you have an Oracle home for Oracle Database 10g, then use a different Oracle home, and one that is available across the entire cluster for your new installation. Similarly, if you have an Oracle home for an earlier Oracle cluster database software release, then you must also use a different home for the new installation.
If the OUI detects an earlier version of a database, then the OUI asks you about your upgrade preferences. You have the option to upgrade one of the previous-version databases with DBUA or to create a new database using DBCA. The information collected during this dialog is passed to DBUA or DBCA after the software is installed.
    - You can use the OUI to complete some of the de-install and re-install steps for Oracle Database 10g Real Application Clusters if needed.
    Note:
Do not move Oracle binaries from one Oracle home to another because this causes dynamic link failures.
. If you are using ASM with Oracle database instances from multiple database homes on the same node, then Oracle recommends that you run the ASM instance from an Oracle home that is distinct from the database homes. In addition, the ASM home should be installed on every cluster node. This prevents the accidental removal of ASM instances that are in use by databases from other homes during the de-installation of a database's Oracle home.

  • Could not find source code for Storefront application of CRS in ATG 10.0.1

    Hi All,
I am trying to find the source code of Storefront application of CRS in ATG 10.0.1. This is needed to try all the multi-site features in the default website first before doing the same on our application. I want to create a similar setup like MotorpriseJSP application on ATG 10.0.1.
Let me know if there are any options to get the source code for storefront app.

    Hi Anurag,
    Thanks for your questions.
1:Is there change in DB architecture as CUIC is the only option as compared to previous linux version UCCX ?
I assume this is from the tables regarding historical data. The database schema essentially remains the same since UCCX 9.0 had CUIC too and we had a seperate DB Space for CUIC and we still continue with that. The traditional historical tables remain and the replication process remains the same too.
2:Is there any version change for Linux OS used as VOS,
The Linux version is Red Hat Linux 5. To be precise:
    [root@uccx10pub /]# cat etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.7 (Tikanga)
3:Is there any API architecture change in UCCX 10 from previous releases ?
I can answer this more of an overview. The only enhancement in the API side is the introduction of REST API step in the script editor. You can now make REST calls from the script and this ofcourse opens up a whole new world of possiblities.
4:Since from UCCX 10 , we can only use either CAD or Finnesse at one  time, whats the impact of changing this after some time in production,  let say , i used CAD for 2 months and then i decided to move to Finesse,  whats the impact ? or is it a smooth change as switching CUIC and HRC  in previoius release ?
For the scenario you mentioned, there is absolutely no problem. The point to note is that the Finesse services are activated/deactivated but the CAD desktop services are ALWAYS running. The only condition to keep in mind is that you can use ONLY ONE type of agent desktop at any time.  Also if Finesse is not used and CAD operations are used extensively, it is advisable to shutdown the Finesse service.
5:Is 3rd Party UCS hardware supported by UCCX 10 instead of using Cisco manufactured UCS , can i use HP hardware for Virtualisation ?
Yes, it can be used. This is something called as "Third party specs based specification". The most important things seen for compatibility are:
    Inter CPU Model
It it is on thVMWare Hardware Compatibilty List
You can get more information about this on the "Can I use this server?" section of UC Virtualized Hardware page:
    http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/UC_Virtualization_Supported_Hardware#.22Can_I_use_this_server.3F.22
    6:Is Host name change supported?
Yes, the hostname change is supported. The prcocedure is documented in the UCCX 10.0 Administration Guide:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cust_contact/contact_center/crs/express_10_0/configuration/guide/UCCX_BK_W1AF9DDD_00_uccx-admin-guide-10.0.pdf (Pg 168)
    Cheers,

    Hi Rashed,
I see that your list includes Cisco Insight Reporter and Cisco Service Control Subscriber Manager. Those are SW pieces which will require some servers to run them. You can review the following documents to have an idea of the SW and HW requirements for the servers required to run those components:
    - Insight:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/cable/serv_exch/serv_control/broadband_app/insight/rel34/install_guide/insight_34_ig.pdf
    - Subscriber Manager:
    www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/cable/serv_exch/serv_control/broadband_app/rel38x/smug/Installation_and_Upgrading.html
If you have any doubt, I would strongly suggest you to reach out to your local Cisco Acount Team for these type of questions. They will be able to provide you proper support and guidance for these type of inquires.
    Best regards.

    Hello Marc,
i think you are mixing up two things
    10.1.0.4 = 10g R1 with Patchset 4
    10.2.0.2 = 10g R2 with Patchset 2
    10.2.0.4 = 10g R2 with Patchset 4
So you always upgrade from 10g R1 to 10g R2 .. and then is the question which Patchset for 10g R2.
I would use 10gR2 with Patchset 4, because there are some nice features and not so many bug fixes to apply.

    Stefan

Any doc or any ideas will much be apreciated.
Is there any possibilities to install the rdbms with the help of same CRS ...
Thanks in Advance. Please help me out guys.

    Review the docs at http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/portal.portal_db?selected=16
Realize as well that you can only have one ASM per host. If you want to have ASM in a separate HOME, you will need to do that first, stop the existing ASM, and fire up the new one.
For transportable tablespace, according to Oracle's Licensing document, it is an EE-only feature.
(As for 'my assistance': ask a question for each problem you hit. I may or may not be available, but probably someone will pick up the question if you include the OS/DB version and show your work.)

  • CRS with 10GE port

    Hi ,
As of now we use 1 port 10GE card only (Cisco 1-Port 10-Gigabit Ethernet LAN/WAN-PHY SPA) in our CRS connects to Core backbone.
We might need 10GE for access now to provide 10GE to PE ( pure ethernet not any optical technology).
I was trying to find out the line card support more 10GE port density for this purpose. Cisco support 8 port 10GE module but that is not SPA rather normal Ethernet card (Cisco CRS-1 8-Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet Interface Module). How is it diff than SPA to use for PE-P - MPLS link includes LSP, Qos etc feature....
Can I use this 8 port 10GE card for the above puropse ? Important thing there should not be any major limitation
    Regards,
    Chintan

    Hello Chintan,
in other platforms we are used to see more features or different features supported on SPA modules.
the datasheet of the 8 TenGiga
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps5763/ps5862/product_data_sheet09186a008022d5e9.html
    About SW it just says:
    Software Compatibility
Cisco IOS XR Software Release 3.0 or later
the list of features for SPA GE and 10GE
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/modules/ps6267/product_data_sheet0900aecd804d884d_ps5763_Products_Data_Sheet.html
    There is some more detail.
    then I've gone to
    www.cisco.com/go/crs
but I've found no useful info
Looking at the configuration guides, the QoS for example I didn't find any distinction about the linecards
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios_xr_sw/iosxr_r3.7/qos/configuration/guide/qc37fab.html#wp998930
Ask to your cisco account manager or even open a TAC service request to request info to be sure.
    Hope to help

    Hello All,
There are many wonderful Service Provider infrastructure hardening documents available from Cisco CCO and CiscoPress.
I have seen many over my life. Sample documents are:
Mannaging ACLs (7600, CRS IOS-XR, GSR) - automation tools, Document ID: 13608
Network Core Infrastructure Best Practices, Yusuf Bhaiji
Cisco Guide to Harden Cisco IOS XR Devices
Each service provider is recommended to enable and configure rACLs, CoPP, block unnecessary control protocols over the edge, Protect BGP peering with interface ACLs and many many more. Unfortunately there is no tool available from Cisco to configure and maintain all those features.
I would like to ask question to NetPro community. Have you seen any working products from Cisco or Cisco partners for ACL management. Lets keep Cisco Security Manager (CSM) aside. CSM is enterprise oriented tool and supporting routers up to 6500/7600.
I’m looking for this tool for few years already. Looks like other Service Providers are using home made developments. Google recently partially published own tool capirca to a public domain (do search on “ACL Management @ Google” or capirca). This is good start but I is missing ACL deployment module (it is not released by google).
    Please share you experience!
    Cheers!

  • CRS IOS XR 4.2.3 ABF IP SLA

    Dear all,
I got a problem when running Access-List Based Forwarding (ABF / PBR) with IP SLA.
The Cisco document its says Object Tracking IP SLA with ABF is supported on IOS XR 4.2.1, even with the sample.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/asr9000/software/asr9k_r4.1/addr_serv/configuration/guide/ipaddr_cg41a9k_chapter1.html#concept_4CBDF391A97345A084853EE73C280FCE
If i looked at Feature Navigator, IP SLA is already supported on IOS XR 4.1.1, with MPLS package software.
But when i configured on CRS, IP SLA cannot be attached on ABF.

Let me start by saying that I hope I'm just doing something wrong and that what I'm trying to accomplish is already possible within the existing feature set of IPCC Express. (I'm running 4.5.2) If not, I'd like to start a campaign to get it added as a feature in the next release.
    Short version:
A call comes in, and in order to assign skills to the call you must assign the call to a csq that contains the skills required to complete that call. -- Problem arises when number of skills gets large, so must the number of CSQ's. Maintaining all of the agent to CSQ mapping gets very cumbersome.
I'm proposing a new "select skill" step in the CRS developer, which will allow you to assign a skill required to handle a call, rather then have skills required be based on what CSQ the call was put into.
(Long version in an e-mail from me to cisco)
Basically what I'm seeing with the Skills Based Routing feature in IPCC Express is that it still relies heavily on CSQ's to determine the group of agents selected to take a certain call. I can't assign a skill to a calling contact during the call flow in the script editor, instead I have to assign a contact to a CSQ which has certain skills assigned to it.
Let me give you an example as it pertains to my company.
We have 15 Healthcare locations with an average of 7 doctors per location. Each doctor has his or her own specialist that takes appointments and other calls not destined to be terminated by the doctor. Each Specialist is also a Primary backup for 2 other doctors and a secondary backup for the rest.
Currently, if I want to use skills based routing to route a call to one of the Doctors, I have to create a CSQ for each doctor, and add that doctors skill to that CSQ, and then add all of those CSQs to the locations "team".
Furthermore, if I want to add a "bilingual" skill so that each caller has the option to speak to a bilingual rep, it changes the order for the rep selection. Now I have to double the amount of CSQs in the system to have 1 queue for one language and another queue for another language for each doctor.
At 15 locations and averaging 7 docs per location with 2 languages, this requires 210 different CSQs that I have to update on a regular basis because turnover for these specialists is fairly high. Not to mention the fact that Cisco has imposed a "soft limit" of 75 CSQs per server on the 7835.
What I would propose to alleviate this mess would be to add a new step in the CRS editor under "IPCC Express" and call it "Select Skill", where I could assign a skill required to handle a call. This would allow me to create 1 CSQ and have agent selection done based on skill, or a combination of skills. It would also allow me to look across the enterprise for an agent with a particular skill without having to create 105 CSQs with 105 agents per CSQ.
To do this for now I have created a work around, but it's not a very good one because it requires a lot of overhead. I've created a database with all of my agents in it and all of the skills they are qualified for. Then where I would use the 'Select Skill' step I talked about earlier I now use a database dip and select a resource with the skills I require, then do a 'Get Reporting Statistic' to determine if that resource is logged in and available. Then using CRS 4.5.2 I route on resource instead of CSQ. Now the problem with this method, is if the resource is available, but away, or doesn?t answer the phone (because they also have to deal with walk up customers) it sets them not ready and then just sits there waiting for then to go available again. It wont requeue to the next skilled agent unless I dequeue then from the current app and start the process all over again, which in that cause they would loose their place in line.
So that's it in a nutshell, I'm sure it's not the easiest thing to follow.
Let me know if you have any questions.

I just want to join you in this request.

  • CRS-X vs ASR9K vs 7600

    Dears
Was checking specs for new CRS-X and would like your feedback please regarding ASR9K vs CRS-X
1- Beside CRS multishelf, why would someone prefer CRS-X over ASR9k ?
ASR9K seems to be more interesting as it provides 440 G/slot however CRS-X provides 400 G/slot. Also I believe they support nearly same range of interfaces types. To me seems reason someone would go to CRS If he already has CRS in network as in this case it would be more economic to just upgrade existing fabric/LC and go to CRS-X instead of getting new HW ASR9k chassis
    What do you think ?
    |||
2- Also it came to my mind that 12K provides only 10G/slot however 7609 provides 40 G/slot ... So does this means 7600 can be good candidate for 12K replacment espically that XR 12416 provides total capacity of 320 Gbps and 7609 provides 720 Gbps ??
    Many Thanks
    Regards

I would talk to your account team about the future hardware and software feature plans for each platform and how that fits in with your requirements. I would not just consider the current system capacties. Things such as power, cooling, the technology used to interconnect the components with the need to keep backwards compatibilty mean each hardware platform has inherent scaling limits.
The current ASR9922 hardware actually delivers 660Gb/slot with fabric resiliency although there are not currently any linecards that use that much bandwidth. Publically available marketing slides already talk about the ASR being scalable to 1.2Tb/slot.
Remember that you need a revision B chassis for 400Gb/slot on the CRS. The "legacy" chassis is limited to 200Gb/slot.
If things like the high availability features in IOS-XR are important to you then a platform like the 7600 with its multilayer switch heritage and which runs IOS might not be suitable.
You could also consider the recently announced NCS 6000.

  • Crs question for rac

    on RH ES3 Update 5, Oracle 10.1.0.3....
Due to some network reconf. I reinstalled CRS.
    I reconfigured VIPCA and NETCA.
My current status on this rac is:
VIP is running on node: hp1
GSD is running on node: hp1
Listener is running on node: hp1
ONS daemon is running on node: hp1
Problem: When I reboot, none of these resources come up automatically. How can i configure so that it can start during reboot.
    Thanks in advance,
    VT

The term rolling upgrade refers to upgrading different databases or different instances of the same database in a RAC environment, one at a time, without stopping the database. Oracle supports the rolling upgrade of Oracle RAC (not OS like I wrote previously) in a cluster when both versions of the operating system are certified with the version of the Oracle Database you are running. Rolling patch upgrades are not available if the Oracle Database software is shared across the different nodes. This is the case where the Oracle home is on Cluster File System (CFS) or on shared NFS volumes. The feature is only available where each node has its own copy of the Oracle Database software.
I doubt that Redhat or Oracle Linux will support in-place upgrades from version 4 to 5. Your only option really available might be to split the RAC cluster and completely setup each node from scratch, than rebuild the cluster. There could be of few changes between EL 4 and 5 that may affect your ability to run a mixed cluster, i.e. raw device support. Sorry, I'm afraid I cannot give you any other practical advise. Perhaps you might want to check the RAC forum at RAC, ASM & Clusterware Installation
To answer you question about the difference with Oracle Linux. The same versions of Oracle Linux and Red Hat Enterprise are binary compatible. For Oracle Linux 5.5, x86_64, you have an option to install the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK), which contains a newer and Oracle optimized version of the kernel, currently 2.6.32. Oracle Linux provides a free public yum repository for software management and other Oracle specific packages. For access to patches you need a subscription to the Unbreakable Linux Network (ULN).

  • Suggestion for installing 11gr2 crs with existing 10g crs...

Hi, I need suggestions on installing 1120 rac on suse 11 where already 10g rac with asm is running. I need to upgrade the 10g crs and asm while installing 11g crs. Pls share your experience on these
1- what are the challenges to run 10g database on 11gr2 crs? is this suggested?
2- challenges to upgrade asm and crs to 11gr2.
3- can we use 2 asm instance in 11g grid infra to manage 10g and 11g db separately.
4-what could be back strategy for this kind of setup? RMAN?
5-how many extra ip i need to install 11g crs with existing 10g crs . we plan to use 3 ip for scan.
Also if possible please share any doc for this kind upgrade
    Thanks,
    Abhai

1.) Yes this is o.k. Just see this MoS Note:
Pre 11.2 Database Issues in 11gR2 Grid Infrastructure Environment (Doc ID 948456.1)
2.) Well first only clusterware is upgraded. You will be asked if you want to upgrad ASM, but this is not mandatory at first.
You can use ASMCA later to switch ASM from 10.2 to 11.2 (this does not have to be done during upgrade).
3.) No you can only have 1 ASM running. So it is either 11.2 or 10.2 ASM. (However I suggest 11.2).
However you can/should have multiple diskgroups. One data and fra for the 11.2 databases where you set the rdbms.compatibility to 11.2 to use the new features, and one data an fra diskgroup for the 10.2 databases.
4.) As long as the compatibility setting of a diskgroup isn't changed, you can always switch ASM back to use 10.2 executables. (Just do a srvctl remove asm and add ASM).
Search this forum - there has been another thread about this.
Regarding fallback of clusterware => See installation guide.
5.) Mandatory are just 3 additional IPs for the SCAN.
Upgrade documentation see the installation guide of 11.2 GI.
Upgrade for ASM see Storage Admin Guide.
Upgrade to move OCR and Vote to ASM see Clusterware Admin Guide.
Upgrade to database see Database Upgrade Guide
Additionally look in MoS for the Upgrade Companion.
