CRSS : Camera Raw Saved Settings - documentation ??

Hello,
I generated a DNG from Lightroom, and I get a XML tree using a crss (Camera Raw Saved Settings) schema.
Where could I get about this ?? I didn't find aything with Google.
Thanks.

I guess the meaning of "open standard" is, that it is open to anyone to write the documentation.
Well, considering that "Camera Raw Saved Settings" are not specifically a function of DNG I think that comment is inaccurate and unfair. XMP allows new and custom name spaces and fields as part of the XMP specification (which is not directly tied to the DNG spec). The fact that Adobe has chosen to extend (XMP = EXtensible Metadata Platform) the XMP fields to include CRSS (Camera Raw/Lightroom "Snapshots") is more a proof oc concept of the usefulness of XMP metadata and less am indictment of DNG's "openess".
Snapshots in ACR/LR are proprietary and thus are prolly intentionally "undocumented", don't ya think?
If you want to see what _IS_ stored in DNG/XMP, the "crs schema" should be able to enlighten you...

  • Can Lightroom import/use Camera Raw saved settings from Photoshop CS2?

Before getting LR, I used CS2. I would load my CR2 files from my cam into CS2 and Camera Raw would pop up for raw editing. I would edit the photos, but sometimes save the settings to a XMP file. Those files would then be available for any raw photo, i just had to select that setting.
Is there any way to import those saved settings files into LR? There's just text in them, what about importing the text somewhere? I dunno... I really want to use these settings files in LR!!
Also, If I change things to a photo in LR, does it have a similar save-the-edit feature like camera raw?
    Thanks!!

If you import images with those side car files, you'll get those settings automatically. If you've already imported the images without the side cars somehow, you can put the side cars back and do read metadata from files.

  • LR 5.5 - Camera RAW Cache settings reset non-stop

Lightroom doesn’t remember the folder path in Camera RAW Cache Settings section in File Handling tab in Preferences window. I want to set my own folder Camera Raw Cache and its maximum size but every time Lightroom sets default path (C:/Users/Name/AppData/Local/Adobe/CameraRaw/Cache/) and also maximum size as 1GB. When I set all the parameters Camera RAW Cache and click OK or switch between the tabs in Lightroom preferences window or restart Lightroom and I return to the File Handling tab all the data is reset to default. The same happens when I want to change the parameters Camera RAW Cache from Adobe Bridge and Photoshop.
    Second question:
When I use DNG file format with Embed Fast Load Data option in the folder Camera RAW Cache the “DAT” files doesn’t appear. Is it connected with the use of Embed Fast Load Data option? When I use the original NEF files from my Nikon “DAT” files appear.
    [Win 7 64-bit, LR 5.5, Web&Design CS6]

I have no trouble placing my Camera Raw cache where I want to put it. Perhaps deleting your Preferences file would help with that problem.
Yes, if you embed fast-load data in your DNGs, LR will use that instead of the CR Cache.

  • PS CS6 / Bridge / ACR 8.5 - Camera RAW Cache settings reset non-stop

Adobe Bridge/Photoshop doesn’t remember the folder path in Camera RAW Cache Settings in Camera RAW Preferences window. Every time when I want to set my own folder Camera Raw Cache and its maximum size, I click OK and return to Camera RAW Preferences, I see default path (C:/Users/Name/AppData/Local/Adobe/CameraRaw/Cache/) and maximum size as 1GB.
    [Win 7 64-bit, LR 5.5, Web&Design CS6]

    Problem is solved!
I delete folder "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\". Then I start Lightroom and I pick my own folder in Camera Raw Cache Settings, set 20GB size and click OK. Now everything works fine. Bridge and PS also fine.

  • Camera Raw Workflow Settings - where?

    Hi!
In Bruce Fraser's and Jeff Schewe's "Camera Raw with .. CS3", p 134, a dialogue box Workflow Options is shown. Likewise, Photoshop CS3 Help > Camera Raw > CR Settings > CR Workflow Options promises "You can see and change these Workflow settings at the bottom of the Camera Raw dialog box."
I wonder which dialog box the text is referring to. I can not see the Workflow dialog box at the bottom of the dialog box shown in Bridge > Camera Raw Preferences, nor in Bridge > Preferences, nor in Photoshop > Preferences, nor in Photoshop > Edit > Color Settings.
All the entrances on the Adobe site only lead me to the same PS Help document.
It would indeed be useful to be able to specify e.g the bit depth as a default, because the PS default seems to be 8 bit (PS > Image > Mode), so I have to remember to set it to 16 for every single image anew.
    I use Mac 10.4.11 on a MacBook Pro, 2GHz processor, 2GB RAM , PS CS3, ACR 4.5
    Thanks for help! Hening.

    >Well, the save button is alongside the hyperlink (to it's left) and that opens a fresh panel to allow various options to be set, so I find the explanation advanced by the ACR Team bit hard to understand.
You running a display at 1024 x 768? Because that's Camera Raw's real estate minimum that HAS to be supported...so what you can do in a dialog whose display ends up at a much higher resolution is severely limited because of the minimum requirements. That's why...

  • What camera raw default settings would you use for the Canon 5D Mark 3. I have PS CS6.  Thank you.

What camera raw default settings would you use for the Canon 5D Mark 3. I have PS CS6.  Thank you.

Really, this is a question you should be asking yourself...
What do you shoot? Makes a difference...
Typical ISO that you shoot? Makes a difference...
Shooting for clients or yourself? Makes a difference...
Look, there is no magic bullet...the ACR/LR "Default" should only be changed for those adjustments you make 70-90% of the time and sould not be confused with image by image adjustments...
So, as asked, your question can not really be answered other than to say, use a default that suits you.

  • Best in Camera Raw Image settings

Not that the camera model matters, but is there any unique in camera RAW image settings that will improve how the RAW file is interpreted by Aperture?
For example, I shoot with a Nikon D200. I can customize how the camera "Optimizes" the RAW image by adjusting:
    1. Image Sharpening
    2. Tone Compensation
    3. Color Mode
    4. Saturation
    5. Hue
Does Aperture recognize any of these adjustments or does it just look at the actual RAW data and compensate just for what it thinks the white balance should be?

You don't need to do anything "in camera." Most (if not all) of those settings are ignored by Aperture, because they don't really apply to the RAW files (they are processing settings, and RAW files are effectively "negatives.").
So color space, sharpening, saturation, etc... doesn't matter what they're set to.
Of course, color space affects how the images are named on camera... the Adobe RGB spec mandates an underscore as first character, e.g. MG1005.jpg versis IMG_1005.jpg.

  • Adobe Camera Raw Save Settings and Lens Profile Corrections Help

I have been fooling around with Adobe Camera Raw’s (ACR) ability to save settings so that I can apply them to other images. I’m able to set things such as clarity, vibrance, camera profile etc. What I want to do is enable Lens Profile Corrections and have it automatically detect the lens information for future images, apply no distortion corrections and apply vignetting and chromatic aberration corrections. However, when I try this, the Lens profile sticks on “Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM” (which is what I used for creating the settings to be saved) regardless of the lens used for the image that I am applying the settings to. Is there a way do this?
I’m using Photoshop CS6 and ACR current version.
    Thanks,
    Mike

You should see an Adobe Standard profile and perhaps an ACR x.x profile for your camera, but Adobe does not make Camera-centric profiles (landscape, portrait, camera neutral, etc) for most cameras unless they are Canon DSLRs, Nikon DSLRs, one Leica and a few Pentax cameras.
On a Vista/Win7 system you can verify what models of cameras are supported by Adobe by looking for profiles in:
    C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles
    The lens profiles are in:
    C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles
There are comparable directories on Win XP.

  • Camera Raw - saving photos- help!

I edit my photos in camera raw, and after clicking "done", I save my photos in another folder on my computer. This has never been a problem until recently. When I go to that folder to open the photo, the photo is somewhat blurry, grainy, and the color is not at all what it looked like when I saved it from camera raw. I have been trying all day to figure out where I went wrong.  I have tried saving as pjeg, tif, psd from raw  - opening to PS and saving different ways from there - exporting instead of "saving".       ----  because this is something that just started yesterday I am wondering if there is something I clicked by accident in camera raw to make this happen. PLEASE help!!! thanks so much!!

The small pixilated preview image sounds like a thumbnail embedded by the camera and the full-res preview is not getting updated and it used to be.
How are you saving your photos after you click Done and how are you viewing those photos after they are saved?  Are you creating copies of your raw files as JPGs and looking at those, or are you expecting the embedded previews in the raw files to change after clicking Done in ACR?
Do you save ACR edits to XMP sidecar files or to a central camera-raw database.  This is in the ACR preferences, somewhere.

  • After Effects CC: how to retain Camera Raw's settings when opening the project from a different drive

I want to open a project from a drive which is different than the original one, but which has exactly the same folder structure and files as the original drive. When opening the project, all files appear as missing because the drive is different. When I replace these missing files for the ones in the new drive, After Affects relinks all media. However, the camera-raw settings that were embedded in such files are lost: After Effects opens the files as no previous camera-raw correction had been done. Is there a way to avoid this?

What could be in my project that makes it unable to open?

  • Camera Raw custom settings issue on 4.5?

I updated to CR 4.5 on my new Mac 17 inch powerbook, and now the custom settings choice uder the basic pull down menu no longer seems to do anything. It used to update from the previous change I had done in the open camera raw window. Now I would need to close the window, reopen and use the previous conversion under the basic pull down menu. It has slowed my workflow dramatically. I can't find anything in preferences. Anybody have any ideas? J.

    > A new image will show up initially with camera raw defaults as its setting. making a change will alter to custom settings.
Yes ... ok so far ...
    > If you move to custom settings in the basic drop down menu nothing happens.
... again, ok so far ...
    > Previously, this would alter the file to the last image settings you had changed.
I don't remember CR ever doing this. Why would CR "assume" anything (other than the defaults) for a new image selected?
    > Which will force me to use another program, as the workflow is too slow.
I don't understand how CR's intended method for "assuming" settings from another image (ie , synchronization), is any slower than what you're describing. In fact, if the images were many your method would be slower.
I won't deny what you're seeing as apparent behaviour of CR on your computer, but I fail to understand how what you describe is better than CR's intended behaviour(?) I suppose choosing 'custom' could assume something, and the last edit is as good as any - but even so, doing this one-at-a-time for subsequent images has got to be slower than synchronizing.

  • Camera Raw Sharpening Settings for Landscapes

    Hi
Would anyone be so kind as to tell me if they have their own preferred sharpening (Detail) settings for sharpening landscapes in Camera Raw, and what these settings are.
Also if you have sharpening settings for other photographs I would also be very grateful for them. Maybe there is a guide out there that gives suggested sharpening parameters for the Detail tab that someone may know of?
Thanking you in advance for any anticipated help you can give me here.

The short answer is to dial in what looks right.  Sometimes that's NO sharpening.  Only experience will tell you what will work best in YOUR post processing workflow.  You have to experiment some to arrive at your own best practices.
May I suggest some additional things that I've found to be useful:
    1.  Convert to a resolution higher than the native camera photosite count.  In other words, if you're shooting a 10 MP camera, convert to the 17 MP size.
    2.  Determination of a good conversion sharpening value will depend on what you're going to do with an image.  You might, for example, choose to dial in a LOT of sharpening during conversion if you're going to immediately downsize an image greatly for web display.  Or you might dial in very little if you have a sophisticated sharpening tool you're going to use later.
    Hope this helps.

  • Imitating Camera Raw Calibration settings with Adjustment layers

    Hi,
I do quite a lot color grading and color manipulation with Lightroom, Photoshop and Speedgrade.
Sometimes I like to use Camera Raw "Camera calibration" Settings to play with hues of the image.
I have yet to found a way to imitate or reproduce the look with  Adjustment layers inside Photoshop.
I have tried with channel mixers and hue/saturation adjustment layers with no good results.
I want to use Adjustment Layers because then I can export the look as Lookup table for other applications.
Do you have any hints how i could achieve these kind of effects as in the sample image below?
    Cheers,
    Otso

This mode in Camera Raw / Camera Calibration adjusts the three primaries of the camera sensor.
This is equivalent to an adjustment of the chromaticity coordinates of the working space primaries.
These are not directly accessible in an image processing workflow. One had to modify the ICC profile
    of the working space.
The purpose of this hue modification in ACR is (in my humble opinion) a weak correction of the camera
sensor primaries, perhaps because of ag(e)ing (though I never heard of).
This is the effect, but with unknown scale factor:
    (neg) shift toward-----Original------(pos) shift toward
    magenta-----------------red-------------yellow
    yellow--------------------green----------cyan
    cyan----------------------blue------------magenta
IMO, one cannot mimic this effect.

  • Can you copy and paste camera raw filter settings for video?

I have just learned how to use the camera raw filter for color correcting my video clips. Is there a way to copy the settings for one clip and apply it to another? How do you do this?

If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand, such as your platform (Mac or Win), exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop and of Bridge, machine specs, what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far, what error message(s) you receive, if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them, etc., someone may be able to help you.
