CRT Television problems

Hi
When I connect my MB to a regular 28" CRT Television with either a S-Video or Composite, I get a black border around the image on the TV. Is there any way to adjust that?

There used to be an option to "Overscan" in the display settings that would handle that, but now that I look, I can't find it in Leopard.

  • Mini-DVI to Video adapter + Widescreen CRT Television problem...

The problem is that in the resolution list in Display-tab for the second display, which is PAL TV, have no resolutions for WIDESCREEN TV. Only resolutions are 640x480, 720x480, 720x576, 800x600 and 1024x768.
Is this a OS related or is there different adapters to iMac 24 and iMac 20? The adapter which I now have is lent from my friend and he have iMac 20.
How this even can be an issue to MAC, because this could be done easily on PC. I just got my first Mac and I love it but this kind of problems I even couldn't imagine.

My 27" flat screen TV added some 1220x720 selections to choose from. Go to the "NTSC/PAL" display perference panel and click the "Detect Displays."
From experence I have never been able to really use the TV as a true second display. Although it really does work quite well for showing DVD movie's, Home movie's, iPhoto slideshows, MS Word PowerPoint or anything FrontRow.
For quicker access to the Display Preferences check the "Show displays in menu bar" This places a display icon on the menu bar for one click access to resolution list and preferences for both displays.

  • W700 displayport to television problem

    Hi,
I own Lenovo W700 and I got it with pre-loaded Windows Vista 64bit. I then purchased displayport to hdmi adapter and tried to connect it to a television. It worked fine.
How ever i upgraded Vista to Windows 7 64bit with Lenovo's upgrade CD. Now with Windows 7 the displayport connection to my television doesn't work any more. When I try to switch to tv it says "No projector was detected". What's the problem?

Some TVs will only display an image if they are receiving both the audio and video signals. I haven't tried this on a newer MBP (which is supposed to be able to output both audio and video together from the same port), but it would be interesting to connect the MBP to HDMI to an input on the TV which allows separate HDMI and audio input, and then use the audio out port on the MBP to run 3.5mm mini plug to RCA or optical/Toslink to the corresponding audio input on the TV and see if that works. That would at least tell you if the video was getting through, and be a workaround for both audio and video. Just a thought.

  • Mac book to 32 inch 1080p television problems

I also have a white MB, OS 10.5, I have used mini dvi to vga connector on 32 inch 1080p TV, The TV recognizes MB and my desktop background displays on TV, but none of my desktop icons display. If i open system pref on the laptop and click display a window opens on the tv and laptop recognizes and name the tv. If I open firefox on mb, nothing shows on the tv except my desktop background. I can open a powerpoint presentation on laptop but nothing on my tv unless I go to slide presentation and then it displays on the tv..I have tried to close my laptop, putting it to sleep but then the tv says no signal and goes to a blue screen. So the monitor is getting a signal from macbook but only limitted aspects appear on it. Also want to shut down the display on laptop and only use the tv display. Can anyone help? Ultimately I was going to buy a mac mini to hook up tp this tv as it is in kitchen and just thought if I could get mb to work I wouldn't have a problem with mac mini. But alas I am not sure mac mini will work. I would hate to buy a pc to use in this situation as I much prefer macs. Thanks for any advice anyone can give
macbook white Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Thank you all for your great advice and help. It worked!!! but I have one other very minor issue. How to I get the display on the monitor to be a different resolution than on my lap top? whenever I change the resolution on one it also changes on the other but not always identical. All of this was a test to be sure I could use the tv as a monitor. My plan is to buy a mac mini to be in our kitchen so if the laptop video card supports this particular tv I have been told the mac mini video card is better and should work as well. So just some reassurance needed before I buy the mac mini. Thanks again for all your help. You folks are super.

  • Imac to television problems

    Hi there,
Basically I've been trying to hook my Imac up to my TV to use as a secondary monitor.
The TV is a samsung series 5
I am using a minidvi > hdmi adapter then a hdmi lead from there.
Will the version of OS i am using affect it
The problem is basically it won't display, let me go abit more in depth.
The imac detects that the tv is connected, in system preferences > display > gather windows, it brings up a secondary monitor menu, which it again recognises as a samsung. This surely means that some information is being fed to and from the two. It also lets me drag things off the screen and move onto the secondary monitor as if it was there.
The problem is that the tv won't detect anything is being played through the hmdi, "source not detected".
I was wondering if this was something on the imac I need to set up (Hz, resolution, anything ticked unticked) or whether it's something at the other end.
Thanks in advance for any help I get!

The new 27" iMacs have a mini-DisplayPort (m-DP), so you will need an adapter. The m-DP does not carry audio, just video, so you will need a Mini Displayport Male and USB Male/Toslink Audio to HDMI Female Converting Adapter from Monoprice. Otherwise you would need to get a m-DP to HDMI adapter to use your HDMI cable and also run a second cable just to get the audio from your iMac to the TV.
BTW, a 27" iMac should not be running Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.6, are you sure that it is not Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.1 or .2?

  • Using MacMini (2006) with CRT television

Hi all. I've been a mac owner for a while now, and decided to purchase a MacMini the other day to use connected to my tv using front row and eye tv.
I have a Sony 32inch widescreen CRT tv. With the Mini I purchased a DVI to Video adapter and hooked it all up with composite video to start with just to test it.
I wasn't expecting great quality, but I was expecting to set it up to suit my wide screen telly. But it's just rubbish! The picture always has black lines at the top and bottom, and all the resolutions available to me are 4:3 style and not 16:9. If I choose overscan It goes too large and the menu bar is lost.
It would be nice to use say 1024 by 576. This is a PAL tv by the way as i'm from the UK, but it support NTSC if required.
Thanks all in advance, and I don't know who else to turn to!

Ok, I tried swtichresX and had no luck. I've played around with it for hours now. I've even tried to copy the original screen formats number by number, but it won't let me put all the frequencies in the same.
For example if I want to copy the standard 640x480 setup that the mac uses for this adapter, when I copy the values and paste them into a custom set up it instantly changes some of the frequencies etc. Also the standard set up as you suggested doesn't work either.
Thanks again for your help, but is this at all possible? Can't really see how they can advertise it as being able to run on a telly, when it clearly cannot.

  • Display issues - CRT - Flicker, b&w

I have a 1.5 GHz Core Solo Mac mini. I'm using a DVI to Video adapter to display on my CRT television.
After making some changes to resolution, I have had issues with the display. After the grey apply start up, the display flickers (to the point where it cannot be used) and is in black & white. I am unable to see anything properly, so I can't detect displays.
I suspect the issue is with the refresh rate or interlacing.
I am able to use the mini on an LCD monitor. I tried to make changes to settings, but it doesn't seem to stick. I am able to use the TV in safe mode, but after a restart the problem persists.
    Any suggetions?
    Thanks.

After the mini is started in Safe mode with the TV, go into System preferences and make a change to another resolution that works but is different from the one that Safe uses. Then, when restarting normally, that resolution should persist and things should be working again.

  • ATI Radeon 2600 PROBLEM: First display wide and second not in mirror mode?

Hi all, I bought a new mac pro with ATI Radeon HD 2600, my problem is this: I have one LCD monitor widescreen 1680x1050 that i use like primary display and one normal CRT television 800x600 that i use like second monior... If i set the "mirror mode" on display the clone reduce automactly my LCD to not wide monitor and i see two black row... Is it possible use the mirror mode in two different monitor? it works only at 1024x768 not 1680x1050 is the video card not enough power? Should be fixed that thing ? Regards
    Message was edited by: egariM

You did not understand the true intent of mirror displaying, which adjusts to the lower specifications of the two screens. You would not like to see your CRT display have to accept high bandwith 1680x1050 signal and fry would you ?
Neither is the reduction of the content of a 1680x1050 screen to a 800x600 acceptable, and not only because of the width/height different ratios : text would be pure garbage, except in huge fonts.
So your mac pro adjusted the display to the 800x600 your crt can accept, as my macbook would when connecting to a video projector for presentation, when in mirror mode.
This is obviously the best choice it could have done, you see...
Now, if you want to keep best resolutions in both screen, then you have no other option than to use extended desktop.

  • 2 DVI sources, but only 1 DVI port on my television

I have the 2009 Mini. I already confirmed that the DVI input on the back of my Sony CRT television gives a beautiful picture for the Mini (with the help of the supplied adapter). BUT, i also have a stand-alone DVD player with DVI that i have hooked up to my home theatre. The only DVI input to be found anywhere in my house is a single DVI input on the Sony TV. Obviously, i know both the MacMini and the DVD player both work fine through that input, but is there a way i can have them BOTH hooked up to the single input, through some kind of a splitter, perhaps?
The only other solution i can think of is to use the component cables for the DVD connection, but i really don't want to take a step down in video quality there. I would rather keep both the MacMini and the DVD player connected digitally.
Thanks to anyone who knows about such things.

There are a number of sources for DVI switches. Here's one, just so you can see what the device is about.
    Regards.

  • Viewing images on CRT, LCD and computer

Can somebody help me clarify how different a FCP edited video will look on the above devices?
My understanding is that if I was creating a video that was going to be played back on a CRT television, then I would have to adhere to the rules of 'title safe', however, if the video was intended to be played back in quicktime, then 'title safe' is not neccessary as the whole picture is shown. Can someone tell me if I am right in my thinking and why this is the case?
Also, does anyone know if I have to adhere to 'title safe' if the image is going to be shown on an LCD tv?
Any clarification will be greatly appreciated.
    Adam

And this is changing all the time with flat screens, etc.
Really comes from the idea that action and titles are 99.99% sure to be seen properly on the cr*ppiest television in your viewing area 9PAL, NTSC.)
I found the other day in my box of memorabilia a few frames of 35mm optical prep stock that showed what in the 70's was called TV Safe. If you compare that to today, you'd be amazed.

  • CRT Monitor Options with Intensity Pro

    Hello,
I am considering purchasing a JVC 15 in. monitor that will produce 4:3 and 16:9
output with 750 lines. This would run off my Intensity Pro by S video. I have been
reading the advise on this and other sites that a LCD will not show interlacing issues.
I suspect that I will not be seeing my 1080 HD in all its glory. I am on a small budget
and do not want to throw money at old technologies. So the question to this forum
of wise counsel is am I on the right track?
    Thank you, Tom

The JVC 15" monitor is a good value and will show interlacing issues.
The color rendition on the JVC is consistent, however you will be seeing the down convert and this will introduce some variation from the original.
Interlacing issues will also be apparent on a consumer CRT television, however don't trust the color rendition of the consumer CRT television. Consumer CRT televisions are designed to hide issues in the video, and each manufacturer makes different choices about how and what to hide.
Is the difference between the JVC and a consumer CRT television worth the price? Your call – depends on the expectations and the viewing situation of your audience.
The Intensity pro is a good choice as you can use the HDMI to feed an HD monitor when the budget allows. Having more than one monitor can be a good strategy.

  • 32" television

Is there a way to set the macbook to support a 32" CRT television set via S-Video? or is this just not possible with my current chipset?

Sounds like you need the mini-DVI to video adapter:
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore=M93 19G%2FA
Keep in mind that the video adapter is video only, you'll need a separate audio "Y" cable if you wt to get sound out of your MacBook and into the TV.

  • Need help, i'm suspecting its a BIOS problem

I dunno whether i should consider this a BIOS problem or something. But I hope someone could help me find the fault.
    Okay, here goes:
When i first turned on my computer, i had this strange BIOS error (I could not remember sorry), then my PC rebooted as usual, but after the Windows XP loading screen, a black screen and a cursor appears, and the PC hangs. I rebooted the PC and my monitor could not receive a signal from the CPU. I tried using my old analog display cable, but it did not work. I then tried plugging the monitor to my laptop. It worked. Then I tried replacing my Radeon 9600XT with my old Geforce 2 MX, but again, it did not work. I checked the inside of the PC and all of the fans (the mobo and the graphic card ) were working.(This was before i plugged in the Geforce2 MX card). I also tried resetting the bios, but it did not work.
    Here's my specs
    P4C 3.0GHZ
    MSI Neo2-S 865PE
    2x 256mb Kingston HyperX
    Sapphire ATI Radeon 9600XT
    120GB Maxtor SATA HDD
    30GB Maxtor IDE HDD
    Creative Audigy 2 ZS
    Iomega CD-R
    one DVD drive
    Eizo 15" LCD monitor
I'm totally clueless.. any help would be greatly appreciated

What s y a running? Anything like style xp?
I've had a prob with the thing after I installed it and combined it with
    TweakXP pro4 & SP2 .
I then owned a Fujitsu-Siemens TFT and when I switched it to auto mode,
it sometimes was fixed. Check if there is an auto-function on your CRT.
Problem is, according to me, something with the Kernel.
Should try booting it with the orginal boot.ini.
    But just to be sure:
Enter the bios, load optimized bios. Could check to be sure if the
aparture size of the AGP is set to the amount of mem available
on the GraphCard and check if the sequence AGP/PCI is there.
During boot, F7 see whats available for OS and take the orignal boot file.
Could try in the boot.ini to delete the /kernel at the end of the sentence.
Dunno if it's gonna help you but it helped me.

  • 32" CRT TV acting odd:

We have a Toshiba CRT Television, 32" made in 2004.  Model# 32A33 that all of a sudden wouldn't turn on with either the remote or by the on/off switch on the set itself.  We unplugged it and plugged it back in after about 10 minutes and still nothing.  Moved it to another room and hooked up our 20" so we could at least have TV.  Now a week later we decide to plug the big TV back in to see what happens and it worked!  So...we move it back to the living room to watch the Indy 500 and right after the race was over the volume started going down all on it's own.  You could turn it back up with the TV button but it would go right back down.  The remote didn't work at all again.  Couldn't turn TV off with the button on the set either.  So...it's unplugged and moved again.  Any ideas?

My 32A33 is acting crazy.  (only about 8 years old).  It will switch between TV/Video1/Video2, then the menu will pop and start switching through choices. It is like it is possessed.  I tried unplugging it to reboot it.  That did not work.  Tried using menu button on TV (that did not work).  Will try and figure it out.  I have seen this described on other sites but so far no answer.
