Crucial MX100 SSD- Firmware update help

Hi guys, I have Crucial CT256MX100SSD1 (256 GB) installed on my Macbook Pro 2011 OS X 10.10.4I have an issue my laptop freezing when i open browsers or sometimes it does it randomly.  I wanted to know How can I update the MX100 FIRMWARE to MU02. currently i have the MU01 but i was told that in order to get rid of the freezing problem its better to update it. So i have downloaded the MU02.iso file. I tried to open it by disk utility and burn it from there but it doesnt allow. I have taken out my CD Drive and replaced it by the Optical Bay HDD and put the SSD in the main SATA. Can any one help me out to install the update without having to put back the CD DRIVE  ( superdrive) or something and can someone tell me if i update the Firmware to MU02 , woud that delete SSD Data and applications or what? Lastly, if the MX100 SSD is faulty, can i return it to the Crucial and have it replaced by the MX200? or something better by paying the differences? Somone please let me know. Thanks

We are using a Lenovo preload of Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. We currently have 5 Lenovo X230 2324CTO laptops and all of these laptops have the same problems.
One of these problems is that when coming into the office and they put there laptop into the Lenovo dockingstations and power up the laptop that when logged in the OS no program is able to load. There sometimes is a delay in this problem that for example they are able to open Outlook or a website but then no program is able to load. As I described earlier the animation for opening a program will occur on the bar but it will quickly just fade away. Also shutting the laptop off is not possible. It is possible to open the charm bar in Windows 8 and go to the shutdown option but on clicking the computer does nothing.
Another problem is that the user is stuck on the login screen of Windows 8 simply saying Welcome with a loading circle which never stops.
Only a forced shutdown (holding the power button for aprox 10 seconds) and restarting the laptop will make the laptop work again when either of these problems occur. These problems occur on random days. As I'm in the IT Team I know when a problem occurs and it can vary to a few days, every day or a few weeks even before it starts to show up again.
I also checked the users and there behaviour in using the laptop but I cannot find any strange behaviour at all. As i also stated before we are running on every update that Lenovo System Update 5 can trow at us. I also installed Intel Rapid Storage Technology the newest version in hopes of fixing some of the problems.
Thanks for the support.

  • X230 SSD Firmware Update help

    Hello,
We are currently having some issues with waking up a X230-2324CTO from a sleep. When awoken from sleep it is unable to open any programs. Programs for example an icon on the taskbar will glow up like if you would normally open a program but then will return to a normal icon like suggesting it was never pressed and no program will open.
Our hope is that the solution is a SSD Firmware update. The have the system updated with every update available for the X230-2324CTO using System Update but this one remains.
Tho we can't figure out how to do this SSD Firmware Update. We don't have a CD drive in this model and when using an USB external disk drive (Samsung) we are unable to boot to the CD.
The question now is can someone provide us with a very clear step by step manual in how to create such a CD the documentation with the update FWSS31 is very poor to say the least. What do we need to create such a CD and how do we need to do it.
    Thanks for the support

  • Anyone with a Crucial MX100 SSD and problems with Mavericks?

    Hi there.
I carbon copy cloned my ex Intel X25M G2 160gb SSD to my new Crucial MX100 512gb SSD and installed it in my mac mini Late 2012 (i7 2.6ghz).
Never experienced before, now the system freezing up and getting the "spinning ball of death" for almost 10 seconds (maybe more) and than the system becomes normal. After few time (don't know maybe two minutes, maybe twenty, it depends) again freezing up and getting the "spinning ball of death".
Are there anyone with a Crucial MX100 SSD that experience my problem? Solution? Apple Hardware Test on the mac mini say 'no hardware problem at all' (I went for the long test during the night). Maybe the clone process had some unknown problem even though I did it many times in the past and never experienced something similar.
Do I have to re-install to have the answer? What do you think?
    Regards,
    Claudio.

There's a firmware upgrade for the MX100 (search for MX100 in the dropdown here: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/support-ssd) however after reading through the thread, the upgrade seems to require a fairly advanced skills and knowledge.  Anyway I'm not sure if the upgrade is intended to fix spinny beachball issues or random and frequent restarts like I'm experiencing.  Here's how Crucial describes the update...
Release Date: 03/10/2015 (Manual boot file for Windows and Mac)
Firmware for the MX100 (all form factors) is being updated from version MU01 to MU02. The MX100 is updateable to this new firmware starting from previous versions using tools provided by Micron.
This update will be mandatory cut-in for new product built in Micron factories, and is an OPTIONAL update for any drive in the field. For end users, it is recommended if the user is experiencing or wishes to prevent an issue related to the following items.
Version MU02 includes the following changes:
Improved stability, Efficiency, and Performance during power state transitions
Improved handling of environments with unstable power supplies
Improved handling of environments with SATA interface signal integrity issues
Improved response time for SMART read commands
Corrected error handling NCQ Trim Commands
Corrected reporting of SMART Attribute 5

  • Intel SSD Firmware Update Tool ISO does not boot

    Hello everyone
Yesterday I tried to install Mavericks on my MacBook Pro 13" 8,1 but I got stuck because I have an Intel SSD inside and it seems that MacOSX 10.8 doesn't have the right driver on board. So I downloaded the Intel SSD Firmware Update Tool 2.0.6 ISO, burned it on a CD with DiscUtility and tried to boot from it.
The problem is that it doesn't boot from the CD. It just ends with the blinking/flashing question mark folder.
Luckily I have a second MacBook Pro 13" 8,1 from work. Just out of couriosity I inserted the disk inside this MacBook and tried to boot from it.
Everything went fine. I saw the Intel Firmware Updater etc.
So now my question: What is going on with my first mac? Why does it NOT boot the CD?
What I need to say at this point: I burned the CD with the MacBook from work. Could this be the reason?
    hope someone can help me
    Best Regards
    krebbl

yes that's right. Unfortunatly I don't have a Windows PC.
But like I said, my second MacBook Pro boots from this CD and shows me the firmware updater. My first MacBook with the Intel SSD does not.
And like in the post here http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57575091-263/intel-x25-ssd-incompatible-wit h-os-x-10.8.3/ it should be no problem.
Are there other ways to boot an ISO file?

  • I can't erase my new Crucial MX100 SSD...Won't let me reformat the partition.

    Hello All,
I believe my old HD crashed so I bought a new Crucial MX100 SSD 256 GB to replace it. I haven't had any luck thus far. I went into Disk Utility and it shows the Crucial SSD in the side bar. I tried to erase/rename, however it won't complete the erase and reformat part of this process. Any ideas why?...I've reconnected it, and it sees it, so Im not sure what the issue is.
    cheers,
    Ryan

maybe this link will help http://www.makeuseof.com/answers/play-media-files-mac-formatted-external-hard-dr ive-hdtv/ unfortunately its for file up to 4 GB size, otherwise try to connect your mac directly to your Tv or I suggest contacting SAMSUNG about this issue, maybe the have assigned softwares for this formatting issues like in western digital for example.

  • Crucial MX100 SSD- Freezing in middle of my work ( MAC OS X 10.10.4)

    Hello
I have Crucial CT256MX100SSD1 (256 GB) installed on my Macbook Pro 2011 OS X 10.10.4 I have used optimal bay for my HDD and I used SSD on primary SATA port. I used a software to clone all my data from HDD to SSD. I didn't have any issues with the Crucial SSD till today. I bought the SSD about 3/4 months ago. I used it perfectly everything worked flawlessly and till today my laptop started freezing or stopping in middle of my work (browsing on internet mainly . or opening up many safari tabs) then I waited couple minutes but still no change so i decided to TURN OFF by holding down power button but after i turned off it still doesnt boot up properly.  My laptop get stuck on the APPLE booting page and it doesnt boot  up but eventually even the apple logo disappears and it freezes again in white screen. It doesn't turn or boot back on. I tried many different methods RESET PRAM , RESET SMC but it just doesn't start back up. But I waited couple more minutes then it managed to turn back on finally. This happened to me almost 2 times now in row today. I am very worried for my data to be lost and not retrieved on the SSD. Please help me to get this solved. I am very unhappy with the current issue i am facing. I've read many people are having this issue. Does anyone have any solution. Please please help  Model: Crucial_CT256MX100SSD1
    Revision:MU01Capacity: 245.07 GB (245,066,539,008 bytes)
    Available: 31.11 GB (31,106,969,600 bytes)

The drive was showing symptoms of Trim being turned off, combine this with the bug riddled MX100 MU01 firmware and that would make it difficult to have a stable Mac. Powering the drive off may have contributed to the problem of the Mac now not booting. Alternatively the MX100 has a hardware problem. Try the following: 1 Boot off your HDD with OS X 10.10.4 and the MX100 SSD connected as a secondary SATA drive. 2 Go to Disk Utility and see if you can Verify/repair the MX100 SSD. 3 Turn Trim on via the Trimforce enable command. 4 Backup your data. If you get this far, you should at least have your data. 5 Upgrade the MX100 to MU02, this is mandatory. 6 Test the MX100  7 Clean install with OS X 10.10.4. No need to rush this, you may consider a larger SSD as 31 GB is not much free disk space. Also OS X 10.11. is due for release which has improvements over OS X 10.10. http://www.macrumors.com/roundup/os-x-10-11/ Also note:  MacBook Pro Repair Extension Program for Video Issueshttp://www.apple.com/uk/support/macbookpro-videoissues/

  • SSD Firmware update - do I need to move boot SSD to Bay 1?

    Hello there
I know you can specify which disk to use as your Startup in System Preferences - currently I am using a Crucial M4 SSD as my boot in the lower optical bay of my Mac Pro (Quad-Core xeon).
But if I want to update the firmware on the SSD do I need to move it? The updating process involves booting from a CD with the firmware update on, as you may know. But does that process override the system preference? Presumably Bay 1 is the default boot system drive, in this instance?
    Thanks in advance.

    msphoto wrote:
So there's potentially no need to remove the other drives, as Hatter has suggested?
I've actually got 2 M4s installed, only one as a boot. If anyone know the best way, thanks for the advice. I'll head to the M4 forum as well.
By coincidence I happend to do a firmware update of my mac pro 5,1 OWC ssd just this past weekend.  It's true that is shouldn't matter which bay the drive is in nor whether you have hdd's in the other bays, but even I was paranoid enough to pull the other drives before booting the firmware updater (it was a Linux boot by the way).  "Pulling the drives" really was no more than sliding them back about an inch and not totally removing them -- just enough to unplug them.  You can run with the mac pro cover off with no problems.

  • Freeze at startup after System and Firmware update - Help!

I took the automated system upgrade last Sunday including updates on a bunch of Apple applications, OS X 10.4.6 (it was included if I recall correctly) and a SMC Firmware update. After downloading all files and installing them my iMac restarted. After that the SMC Firmware upgrade started and I followed the instructions ending in another restart.
This is where my problems began. At this startup I got through the grey screen with the Apple logo and got so far as to the blue screen with the Mac symbol saying something like "starting up". The progress bar started moving and froze after reaching about a fifth of its final length.
As this was a firmware update I didn't want to interrupt anything so I left it for the night (no progress in the morning) and for the next day. Still no progress when I came home from work so I shut it down (pulled the power cord).
Efter this I've tried to fall back using the Firmware Restoration CD available at Apple's support page, but this doesn't work. My iMac refuses to start the installation of the old Firmware even though I follow the fallback instructions. (After starting the computer and keeping the power on button pressed I wait for the front light below the screen to first flash rapidly for a while and then do a SOS (three short, three long and three short blinks). The SOS however, never happens, instead the computer proceeds directly to the grey startup screen before it freezes when it reaches the blue screen.
I have no clue to what to do. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

    minxlj,
It is not my intention to be rude, however, it is my intention to be direct. Do you have a G5 or do you have an Intel Core Duo, or perhaps even both? Because right now your signature says you have a G5, which has PPC chips in it made by IBM, not Core Duo chips made by Intel.
The reason I ask is because, just as in another Discussion here in the Intel forum, you are responding to information that appears to not apply to the computer you say you have and you are giving information that, if you have a G5, does not apply to the computers of the folks here in the Intel forum.
Could you please clear that up by correcting your signature so everyone here knows you are comparing oranges with oranges and not mangos with oranges?
    Staffan,
As far as the SMC Firmware update and the Firmware Restoration CD, the two items are not related. The Firmware Restoration CD is only for the Firmware Update that came out in mid-April. It is intended for someone whose computer messed up in the application of the Firmware Update and is intended to bring their computer back to its Firmware state prior to the botched Firmware Update. It will not assist you if you had problems applying the SMC Firmware Update from early May.
If I am understanding your description of your Mac's problem it sounds if if you have successfully installed the SMC firmware update, but now have a possible 3rd party satrtupitem that is not allowing your Mac's OS X to fully boot. You can check to see if both the Firmware Update and SMC Firmware Update have been successfully installed by booting your Mac into safe Mode by pressing the "Shift" key during startup. This boot will take longer than normal because it is verifying and repairing your directory. After the desktop appears, go to Apps/Utilities/System Profiler. In the Contents section, highlight Hardware and Hardware Overview should show; Boot ROM Version: IM41.0055.B03 for the Firmware update and SMC Version: 1.1f5 for the SMC Firmware Update.

  • SSD Firmware update fails

In my T61p [6457-BQG, BIOS 2.29]  I have the Lenovo version of a Samsung 830 SSD [MZ7PC256HAFU-000L7]. But when I try to run the update process I get a big red error box with UPDATE FAILED. I removed the HD password before trying the upate.
    Any ideas?

    Hello,
Have you tried changing the SATA drive access mode from AHCI/RAID/SATA (name might vary) to Classic/Legacy (again, name might vary) and then performing the firmware updateon the SSD?

The SSD is a Toshiba (TS128E) on a MacBook Air 2012 running Moutain Lion.

There is a long thread on the mid 2012 toshiba SSDs failing. Some have pointed to this firmare update as a possible cause.
I would take the system to Apple and have them check it out. Make sure you have a recent backup because the SSD could fail at any time.

  • MBP C2D Firmware update help

Currently my MBP C2D has firmware of Boot ROM Version:MBP22.00A5.B00

I too experienced the same thing, and was equally puzzled. Then I read this Special Report about the MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.2 at MacFixit. There, rather buried away in a paragraph towards the end, is this statement:
Not required for Core 2 Duo MacBook Pros Note that (although Apple makes no mention of the fact) EFI Firmware Update 1.2 is not applicable to Core 2 Duo-based MacBook Pros.

Have a question to be helped please.
My Phone tells me I currently have the lastest firmware version. Problem is that I know there's been a new update to 200.something.somthing.
Because of my product code. Nokia Software updater won't allow me to get the new software version.
Can someone please tell me how I can get this new software version ...? The reason I need it is because it's proven that this new software update will allow me to pair my E66 to my BMW and " transfer the contacts over " ...
Any help will be appreciated ... I've already taken it back to the shop I got it from and they tried the same thing
expecting a different result .... their more stupid than me, as I told them I tried NSU already ...
    Thanks in  advance

Update availability is based on many things, including existing Nokia device firmware version, country, and operator. It may be due to one of these variables that your Nokia device isn't eligible for updates.
Please note that your mobile service provider, operator, or carrier may not have approved the latest Nokia device firmware available.
Nokia produces many different variants of each product (for different countries and languages) and not all variants have the latest Nokia device firmware. New software may become available at a later date, however, so please check again soon.

  • Firmware update help please

Hello, I posted this in the optical forum but got no answers, so I hope someone could help here.
Hi there, I have just fitted an MSI CR52-M CDRW and ran live update to check for firmware. It said I had version 3.30 and 3.70 was available. I started the update procedure following exactly in windows mode and while it was updating it just simply crashed.
I used the flash recovery floppy it got me to create, but this just set me back to 3.30.
I tried again via live update, but this time chose to do it in dos mode. After going through the process and rebooting etc. It still says I have version 3.30?
Is there a problem with this firware upgrade or am I perhaps overlooking something?
I thank you in advance for any help and advice.

Your post in the optical forum is the correct place. It may take a while to get a response.
