Crushed mac

Hey fellows, a while back my mac was crushed and thus making the optical drive unusable. Whenever I turn it on, it makes this god awful whirring noise and I don't want to try and take it apart to remove it. Is there any way software wise to disable the optic drive from being used/whirring when it turns on? Just until I can have it replaced?

Hi All,
my old Mac Book got crushed every time I was trying to open a new folder or an application.
Do you mean it got physically crushed?
Or that is crashed (stopped doing anything) every time you tried to open a new folder or application?
As Jolly Giant noted, you can remove the drive and put it in an external drive case and use it htere.

  • Crushing Mac, almost sure is the hardware

Hi in the last 2 days I had lots of problems with my iBook
I am almost sure it is the hardware, I tried several times to reinstall (a new installation) Mac OsX tiger, but I receive a message:
"You need to restart your computer, hold down the power button for several seconds,etc...."
This morning, after that, I cannot start OsX, just the screen remains blank with apple and the small spinning loadig circle...
Now I am trying to access to the webpage with the warranty request but I can only see a page like this:
    http://www.apple.com/uk/support/
(bought my ibook on ebay few months ago and it was pretty good, and I live in UK/Belfast now so I probably have to use a Apple UK page for warranty)
and even if I choose the iBook the only page I got is a "self repair" (but I dont know which components is supposed to be broken, so) and "check status"
so, how can I send a request to Apple to repair (come and pick my ibook up) my computer which is still in warranty?
    Please help !!!:)
if you how to do it...I remember when I sent my ipod last year it was possible to ask and apply for repair online...

    Hi!
If you can't tell by putting the Serial Number into the place on the Support
page to see how much warranty is left, and if there is no longer a page
for Support Chat (there was last year; haven't checked if that was US only
or UK too) you may have to spend money to talk to a Tech and have them
go through a few tests and checks before they will assign a work order or
case number to you/your hardware for warranty repair consideration.
There is a page of contact information, for Apple UK:
    http://www.apple.com/uk/contact/ which has several
phone numbers and other stuff. You may have to spring
for the Support fee of about $40 US (or local equivalent)
    to get past that department, before getting to Service;
I've heard that a fee such as this could be refunded when
a repair is performed under the warranty. But ask to be
sure about how these loops and turns affect you.
If you are near an authorized Apple repair center or a
reseller who has a repair service, you can take it in
and they will deal with it under warranty. If you can do
this, you can ask the product be sent to you when done.
Seem to me, "accidental" damages are not covered under
the AppleCare warranty protection plans... What's crushing?!
    Good luck in this matter!

  • Google Chrome crushing Mac

    Hi guys,
Google Chrome is crushing my MacBook Pro 10.6.8.
I've done a new browser profile and it worked fine for 4 or 5 days, than it started crushing again.
When it happens, I cannot move anything on the screen.
I went to Google forums searching for an answer but had no response, only other people asking the same question.
The only solution I found was the new browser profile, but it didn't work for me.
    Could somebody help me?
    Thank you!!
PS: I'm a Feedly user and it only works on Chrome.
PS2: Maybe it's just a coincidence, but crushes happen 90% when I'm using Wordpress.

You can simply install and use FireFox as your browser and then the plugin I linked to above.  FireFox is stable in OS X.  You can pick the applicable version of FireFox from here:
    http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
If you want the U.S. English version... the direct link is:  http://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-20.0&os=osx&lang=en-US

  • Acrobat Pro X crushes just after opening (Mac OS 10.7.5)

Hi! I just bought Adobe Creative Suite 6, everything is fine but Adobe Acrobat Pro X that crushes immediately after opening. It is updated to the last update and I have Mac OS 10.7.5. Does this problem disappear moving to Maverics?
I had problems from the beginning with Acrobat because it it didn't installed automatically, I had to search for its own .dmg in folders, and as you can see from the attached image I cannot uninstall it either because it is not in the list, is it normal??
Hope you can help me since it is a software I really need!
    Thank you, all bests

I think you should ask in the Acrobat forum. This is the Reader one.

Since the new update to the mac OS 10.10 my illustrator SC4 is crushing when i launch it. It gives me two pop up windows
1st "Do you want the application "SFCore" to accept incoming network connections?" No matter what i answer "deny or allow" it does not change anything.
2nd "Do you want the application "FontTool" to accept incoming network connections?"
And gives me a details report. Then on the report if i click re-launch it basically goes through the same cycle.

  • HELP: just upgraded to Mac OS 10.7.3 and InDesign CS5.5 keeps crushing upon opening

Hi - Indesign CS5.5 stopped working after I upgraded to mac OS 10.7.3. It was working fine before the upgrade... It keeps crushing during the launch. Photoshop seems to work fine but the same thing happens when I try to open Illustrator. I reinstalled CS 5.5 suite but to no avail.
Here are some info from the crash report:
    Application Specific Information:
*** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'launch path not accessible'
*** Call stack at first throw:
I don't know what this means since I'm not that tech savvy... Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!
    M

I thought I deleted it by using app zapper but could it be that some parts didnt' get deleted? idk...
Any time you choose to use a third-party software removal tool instead of the vendor's own process, you run a risk of it failing in subtle and annoying ways. Generally speaking, you're better off without tools like this.

i run mac os x 10.9.5 and i can't open apple store and mail application crush
    any help??
    thanks in advance

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try to launch one of the problem apps. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • I believe my MSWord app on my Mac just crushed and I cannot shut down my laptop. I'm concerned my computer might overheat. Anyone has any idea to share?

I believe my MS Word app on my Macbook just crushed and I could not shut down my laptop. I'm afraid the machine might overheat. Pls. help, anyone . . .

Tnx, Steve. I actually had that concern about force quitting the machine as suggested by 'shldr2thewheel'. Since I'm new to Mac, I went to several training sessions at Apple store. I remember in one session, the Apple Associate cautioned or rather dissuaded us to resort to that method. Instead, I simply allowed the machine run out of battery without closing the lid. Anyway, tnx for the inputs guyz.

  • My mac has been crushed where I forced to re install the original OS 10.5.8 now I want to upgrade to the mountain lion but it needs at least 10.6 version where I did purchased it before but it has been deleted after the crush.

    hi,
I had OS 10.5.8 and I did upgrade it to snow Leopard, later after a year or so my mac has crushed where I forced to reinstall the original OS 10.5.8. now How can I upgrade to mountain Lion or at least to retreive my Snow Leopard?

You need to use the Snow Leopard DVD to upgrade your computer. If you can't find that, phone the online Apple Store and order a new one.

  • My mac crushes frequently

Hello everybody. I am a mac owner since 2011 with Mac OS-X Snow Leopard. Some of my system info :
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed:          2 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          6 MB
      Memory:          4 GB
The problem is that it crashes frequently and I am not very used to dealing with these issues.
Main problem : 1) Safari 5.1.7 crushes almost each time I open my mac.  Yes, I open at least 10 tabs, and some of them are youtube tabs, but the reason I bought mac is that it was working like a charm. Which was indeed at first, and it lasted only one year. I loved Safari and it's my main browser, but I cant tolerate it right now. Even Firefox works better.
Even if I have only 3 applications opened, first Safari, second Skype and thrid Firefox begin to crush. I am not able to Force Quit cause the rainbow ball appears and I can't stop it anyhow. At least at Windows I knew Ctrl+Alt+Delete. Is there any shortcut here?
I have also installed Virtualbox  to run Windows for some very speific applications for windows users only. But even when it's not running, the problem with crushing appears.
I have done every software update  is suggested and installed it.
I am thinking of buying another 4GB RAM to improve its performance, but before doing this I would like to take advice first.
How could I relieve my mac and Safari, without uninstallin it?
    Thank you in advance.

why won't anyone help us ahhhh!! back up your data asap. that happened to mine and now i have the white screen of death

  • I have a Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.66.  Can I download Candy Crush Saga onto my Mac?

I have a Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.66.  Can I download Candy Crush onto my Mac?

You can use the Facebook version that runs on Adobe Flash.  I would upgrade to the free update of Mac OS X 10.6.8 to get the latest Adobe Flash from http://www.adobe.com/
According to Wikipedia there is no version independent of Facebook or phone operating systems as of yet.   If you can find one, that would be something you might want to contribute to:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candy_Crush_Saga
    10.6.8 is found here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Note, upgrading to 10.7 or later is not recommended, until you have read this tip:

  • Can I use a VGA/DVI-D monitor to a new 2014 Mac Mini?

My wife's PC just died (it was a cheap 300 pc that lasted probably 5 years.
She basically emails, web surfs, looks at pictures and plays candy crush on Facebook so she doesn't need anything too high end.
I was thinking of getting her the basic 2014 mac mini but I have a VGA/DVI-D monitor (an older Dell) and it fits perfectly on her desk.
Can I somehow hook up a new mac mini to either the DVI-D or VGA input?
If not, what is the best monitor to get HDMI or should I look into a thunderbolt monitor?
    Thanks,

Yes. You will have to purchase one of the following adopter:
    - HDMI to DVI and use the Minis HDMI output
    - Mini displayport to DVI adopter and use one of the Minis Thunderbolt ports
    - Mini displayport to VGA adopter and use one of the Minis Thunderbolt ports
I would use the monitor's DVI input over the VGA input
