Crw32.exe When dragging field to report

I have one particular user that is running XP SP2 w/ Crystal Reports 10 SP5 that after a certain amount of time gets the error: 'crw32.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close...' I've tried reinstalling Crystal with SP5 and this always fixes the issue for a short amount of time. After about a week or so, w/ no rhyme or reason, the error comes back. It always occurs when an existing report is open and the user trys to drag a new fileld from Field Explorer over to the report. There is no real connection as to why this occurs. The user is linked to SQL Server through an ODBC connection. Your help would be greatly appreciated as I can't find any tech support numbers. Thank you in advance.

Hi Andrew,
Glad to know moving to primary monitor worked!!
This is because dual monitors is not supported with Crystal Reports.
You can find the supported platform guide for Crystal Reports 10 at

  • Unhandled exception in crw32.exe when dragging field onto report

I support a Crystal Reports Designer XI user who is receiving an error:
Unhandled exception at 0x00891ff3 in crw32.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000020.
So far, this only appears to happen when she drags a field from Field Explorer onto a new or existing report.  The data connection to the database appears not to be the issue, as she accesses that DB from different applications with no problem.
DEP is set with Crystal as an exception, I have uninstalled and reinstalled along with deleting temp files and leftover registry keys, I have closed all other applications, I have granted her admin rights, disabled VirusScan, and nothing seems to fix this issue.  She had this issue once before on a different computer (with the same software installed) and we ended up getting her a new computer at around the same time so the issue never needed to be resolved.  On the current computer she was working problem-free for about 3-4 months, and a few days ago it started showing up on her new computer.  I could rebuild her Windows profile but that is a huge hassle and I don't think of that as a permanent fix.
Thanks for any help... I'm racking my brain on this one!
    Nick H

    Hi Nick,
CR XI is NOT DEP aware and will never be. Only option is to upgrade to XI R2 and SP 6 for free or disable DEP. DEP was released after XI and XI is past it's end of life so no new patches to fix the problem.
Go to this link: http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc and download the trial version of CR XI R2 and use your XI keycode, then apply the patches which you can get to by clicking on the BusinessObjects tab above, then Downloads.
Direct link to the Trial version: http://www.sap.com/solutions/sapbusinessobjects/sme/freetrials/index.epx

  • Facing crw32.exe error in crystal report because of page size of mainreport

I have developed a crystal with main report which includes a subreport in the details section.
Main report is for header details of invoice and subreport is for line item details.
    Page design is like
    report header
    page header
    details a- subreport
    details b
    pagefooter
In subreport, in details section written a logic for getting a new page after every 10 rows, and insert a new line after 10 rows.
After running the main page, if the report conation only one page more than 10 rows, it is getting crashed with crw32.exe error.
But this report is working fine if the second page contains more than 10 rows.
Could not understand the problem and need help..

    Hi,
The difference I can see is the Report Header.  Format the Report Header section for New Page After.  This will give the first page extra space.
I normally do not recommend having a subreport in the detail section.  It would be a better suggestion to have the subreport in a Group or Page  section and have your subreport return 10 records at a time.  The extra line would be in the main report below the subreport.
    Good luck,
    Brian

Im running CR XI Prod. Ver. 11.0.0.1282.  The report that im writing is pulling tables from an Oracle 10g database. The report already has 5 tables with links redefined. At this point the report is beautiful.
Need to add a new field from a new table. No problem adding the new table. Its when i try to delete the default links to this new table , or any other table and hit OK, the program crashes 100% of the time.
If i remove the new table from the list, normal functionality is restored and i can delete any link as i see fit. Without problem.
There is nothing special about this new table that is being added. I can "Browse data..." by R-Clicking on the field names in Field Explorer and see the values without problem. If i add any of the fields to the report, the report doesnt run because the links are incorrect.  Which is what im trying to fix and CR XI crashes 100% of the time.
    Thanks in advance.
Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Ive tried rebooting, even tried on another computer.
Operating systems being used are Windows XP SP 3. No bugs/viruses/trojans or worms, clean systems.

Can you go to Microsoft's site again and download debugdiag 1.1. Run it and set it to create the dump file for crw32.exe when it crashes. You can analyze it also and it may tell you what dll is causing the issue.
What happens if you create a new report, save it, close the designer and then open that new report  and try to delete one of them? Could be just an issue with your existing reports.
If that doesn't resolve then I suggest you purchase a case and get one of our Rep's to help debug this on line.
You have verified you are a local PC admin, DEP is not enabled, anti-virus disabled and nothing else or as little as possible running?
It could be also that some dependency is there but CR is picking up the wrong version and doesn't get to the one we need.
If you have a PC where it does work go to our download page and get Modules and run it on both PC's then you can compare the runtime. Our Database drivers have a dependency on MFC*.80.dll's. It could be there are a bunch of those on your PC and CR is using the one some other program loads in memory.
    mmmmm.

Crystal ran fine prior to having to reload the operating system. I have tried changing the compatibility mode (all of them) but the problem remains. The error log shows the same information as above.
I have tried reloading the program and again the problem remains.
    Any Ideas???

    Hi,
Well, the only issue I see here is the version of Crystal Reports. CR XI (11.0.x.x) is certainly not supported on Windows 7.
From what I know, Windows 7 supports CR 2008 SP3.
Since CR XI R2 is a free upgrade, meaning you can use the same license key, I would recommend that you upgrade to the latest Service Pack (SP6) available for CR XI R2.

  • Crystal Reports kicks me out with a crw32.exe has encountered a problem ...

I have not been successful in getting Crystal Reports XI Rel 2 to work for me, except for one very simple report that accesses one table and simply prints out all fields.  When I try to link tables and do something more complicated, it kicks me out with a 'crw32.exe has encountered a problems and needs to close error'.
I am running Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP3 and using the CR Informix ODBC Driver 5.3 to access data from an Informix DB.

I downloaded and was able to write a report off the Access test DB.  So - I went back and connected to Informix, wrote a report that connected 6 tables and now I get a syntax error (it has not kicked me out yet, though!).  I get -201 error with no explanation.  Here is the sql generated by CR:
    SELECT pallet.pallet_id, item.category_id, item.sub_category_id, category.description, sub_category.description, item.quantity, item.std_cost, sub_category.default_recovery_pct, carton.status, pallet.status, location.location
    FROM   arc:informix.category category, arc:informix.sub_category sub_category, arc:informix.item item, arc:informix.carton carton, arc:informix.pallet pallet,  OUTER arc:informix.location location
    WHERE  (category.row_key=sub_category.category_key) AND ((category.category_id=item.category_id) AND (sub_category.sub_category_id=item.sub_category_id)) AND (item.carton_key=carton.row_key) AND (carton.pallet_key=pallet.row_key) AND (pallet.location_key=location.row_key) AND category.description<>'Dump' AND (carton.status='CLOS' OR carton.status='PALT') AND (pallet.status='DOCK' OR pallet.status='PUTA')
    ORDER BY pallet.pallet_id, item.category_id, item.sub_category_id, category.description, sub_category.description
I don't see a problem with it.  Any other suggestions?  Do you think the CR has a problem with a table called 'Item' since that is a reserved word?

  • Crystal Reports 2008-Vista-ERROR-crw32.exe Entry Point Not Found in dll

    Hi Experts,
I just installed the Crystal Reports 2008 (with SP0) on my Vista (Home) machine.  When I try to start the CR 2008, I am getting the below error message:
Error Title: crw32.exe - Entry Point Not Found
Error Message: The procedure entry point ?PrintLegend@CMapXLegend@CSLib300@@QAEXJJJJJ@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library cslibu-3-0.dll
Here are the things I tried to resolve the above problem:
    1) Uninstall and Reinstall the CR 2008.  -  No change.
    2) I configured the DEP to accept Crystal Reports (Performance - Advanced - DEP allow).
None of these seem fix the problem.
Can you please help me kick start the Crystal Reports 2008?
    Thanks,
    Arun

    Please try with this:
Run a command prompt as administrator. From the start menu, select "All Programs", then "Accessories" and right-click on the "Command Prompt" shortcut and choose "Run As Administrator". From here you can use the following command to disable Data Execution Prevention (DEP) with the following command:
    bcdedit.exe /set nx AlwaysOff
Keeping your command prompt open, run your setup or other process being stopped by DEP. Then, to turn it back on again, do the same and run the following:
    bcdedit.exe /set nx AlwaysOn

  • Crw32.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close while running report

Ever since I installed HEAT 9, Crystal Reports 11 crashes periodically.  I get the message "crw32.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close."  This message usually appears after I run a report, enter my DB credentials, and enter parameters.
I also have Report Viewer installed as a part of another application called Wasp.  I can open reports using the report viewer but when I close them the entire Wasp program crashes every time.
Both of these problems only happen with HEAT 9 installed.  I do not have this problem with HEAT 8.4 installed.

I suggest you contact the makers of HEAT and ask them if they support your configuration. It may be they do not support multiple versions of CR installed. It may also be caused by the order you have installed the various programs. Try using the repair feature for each program in various orders to see if that resolves the problem.

    Hi Brian,
Thanks for your help and advise.
Crystal has been running on the server for some time (over a year) but hasn't been 'managed' until now so am looking at all of the issues at present.
We haven't seen a pattern when the errors started though.
Unfortunately the only errors I think relating to CR are the ones in the original post.  There are other errors, particularly to do with printing, but I think that they these are due to the TS sessions which wouldn't run Crystal. See below.
The print spooler failed to load a plug-in module C:\Windows\system32\spool\DRIVERS\x64\3\tsprint.dll, error code 0xc1. See the event user data for context information.
I am assuming the users are fine when they view the report then; scrolling through pages.  Yes, I believe so.
Yes, there are no locally attached printers on the server so the users rely on their remote session sharing the printer.
    Regards,
    Don

  • Crystal Reports 2008 Trial crashes; crw32.exe error; any fix?

I downloaded the trial for Crystal Reports 2008 and I can open the application fine, but when I go to create a report and click on the u201CCreate New Connectionu201D for the database I get a Just-in-time error for crw32.exe and my application shuts down.
Iu2019ve been trying to look for a resolution in your forums but could not find anything.  I check for updates it says there are none; I've uninstalled and reinstalled already didn't fix it; I've download sp1 manually and installed but no luck.
I do have MS SQL Server 2008 installed on my system, could this be causing some problems?
I'm running Windows XP, also have VS .NET 2003 installed, but I'm only wanting to use CR 2008 application.
Similar to this existing problem: An unhandled Win32 exception occurred in crw32.exe 5048. Crystal 2008 Crash
I cannot uninstalled SQL Server 2008 because I need it.

    Hi Henry,
Crystal Reports 2008 is not officially tested with SQL Server 2008.
    Try with this:
    1. Reduce the 'Hardware acceleration' setting in Microsoft Windows.
    2. To access the 'Hardware acceleration' setting in Microsoft Windows:
    Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Display > Settings > Advanced > Troubleshooting.
There are typically six possible settings for 'Hardware acceleration': from 'None' to 'Full'.
If you are using Dual monitor run the CR application on primary monitor cause Dual monitor is not tested with CR.
If still the issue occurs then manually un-install and reinstall the application.

  • User gets crw32.EXE error on some reports

    I have a user who gets a crw32.exe error message  when running some custom reports he has created.   The error signature is as follows:    AppName: crw32.exe;   AppVer:  11.0.0.1252;  ModName:  mfc71u.dll;  ModVer:  7.10.3077.0;   Offset:  00ac991;
We have already  uninstalled and reinstalled Crystal (Standard version).  The user is set up as a local administrator.   He used to be able to perform a work-around to get the reports to run.  He would first open another report and run it, and then open one of the problem reports and it would then run successfully.   This is no longer working.
    Any ideas?

    Additional Information:
While looking at replies to my response and doing the follow-up suggested by these replies, I discovered that if the user launches Crystal Reports first and then uses the application to open the  report file, he can run the report successfully.  In the limited testing, this appears to work every time!
However if he double-clicks on the report file (*.rpt)  in the directory (Windows Explorer) and through the file association, Crystal launches, he will get the error on these few reports every time!   So he has a work around at least, but if you have any further suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

  • Formula Field incorrectly rounded when run on Enterprise Reports, OK in report

    Post Author: beckybear
    CA Forum: General
We have a report in Crystal Reports 9.  There is a forumla field that has a custom formatting applied to display 2 decimal places.  It works fine when opening the report and running it.  However, when it's uploaded to the enterprise reports server (also version 9) and run from there, it rounds the numbers to have no decimal places.  Any idea what could be going on here?

Sorry about not including Screenshots, here are a few:
    - Try setting the Formviewer Zoom to page width and resizing the window, at some point the "n" from "dürfen" and the the dot at the end of the sentence should disappear:
    - Shots from the full Report (here "Stundensatz" becomes "Stundens", "von" disappears completely: the second sentence is OK ) - this shows up without manipulating the zoom:
In the Viewer with the Error:
When I print this from the Viewer I get:
When I print directly without the Viewer I get:
    - When I export the Report ( does not matter if rpt or PDF, from the viewer or directly ) the error does not show up.
    - The Problem with the "no printer" option (in my case) was it took a long time with it disabled, not enabled.
