Crystal 7 to Crystal XI

Hello,
We have been running reports on Crystal 7 (Seagate Info 7) and have installed BOXI R2 and managed to migrate the reports to Crystal XI. Just not sure if we have done this in the most effective way and if issues can arise from how we have set up the data sources.
There was no direct migration tool to bring the reports onto the new system. Moreover, we work on a Baan IV database and have had some issues trying to use the Universe Module and so have are using Business Views.
The old reports were using info-views, we recreated the these info-views as business views on BOXI. In doing so, we made a data foundation including all tables and links as to accommodate for the tables needed by the all of the info views. From there, we created appropriate business elements, specifying the fields used. And finally, the respective business views. By changing the datasource (Database -> Set datasource location) we were able to use the same reports as before but through the business views.
We put all of the tables and linked them inside of the same data foundation. We figured the benefit was that in the case we needed to create new business views that we would have access to any table we wanted. So the question is, does this lower the performance (take longer to run reports) or possibly cause problems with data integrity? Should we have migrated the reports another way?
Thanks.
Guna

Hi Guna
When you create a Data Foundation, you need to specify your data source,
whether it be one or more Data Connections or one or more Dynamic Data
Connections. You can have any number or combination of Data Connections
and Dynamic Data Connections for your Data Foundation.
Data Foundations are flexible as they contain the physical database
properties for tables and fields. Using Data Foundations, you can link different
data tables. You can also insert additional data tables, and create formulas,
SQL expressions, filters, parameters, and custom functions. In addition, you
can set specific rights on all of these objects for your users and groups.
When you create a new Data Foundation, you first need to specify the tables
you want to use (tables which are taken from the data source specified by a
Data Connection or a Dynamic Data Connection). After you create the Data
Foundation, you can link different tables. You can insert additional tables,
formulas, SQL expressions, filters, parameters, and custom functions to your
Data Foundation.
You can build multiple Business Views from a single Data Foundation.  At the same time you may also create a separate Data Foundation for each distinct Business View.  Make a choice based on what suits your requirement best.
Hope this information is useful to you.
Regards
Girish.

    Dear Srujal Patel,
    There is no log to keep those changes in current design. You may export the table from time to time to have certain images as of historical records.

  • Redistribution issue with VS2008 Crystal and Crystal MSI

    I have a VS2008 setup where I mark Crystal as being required.
    I have a couple of desktop exe's as well as a websetup.
    Here is my issue. Whenever I install/re-install on a test machine, it always prompts for crystal setup, I have run the crystal setup separately, so the files are installed.
    So If I run the desktop setup, it tries to install CR runtime, then if I run the websetup or another different desktop setup, it still prompts for the cr runtime..
    In my program I reference
    C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Common\2.8\managed\CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.dll
    Description: Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 2.0
    version: 10.5.3700.0
    the installer for the cr_redist_x86.msi installes
    CRVsPackage.dll
    version 10.5.1.2285
    I was told that these two were compatible.
    So It's looking like i either have to downgrade the run time or upgrade my VS2008 basic Crystal reports.
    Can someone shed some light on how I do this?

    See if [this|Re: Merge Modul CrystalReports11_5_NET_2005.msm requires admin rights] thread helps. The CR version discussed is 11.5, but I think the solution should apply to your version of CR also.

  • WebElements Crystal 2008 Crystal Server

    How do you configure HTML TAGS to work in Crystal 2008. When using WebElements I can ONLY view HTML Code and not the complents translation.
    I use the standard out of the Box install with Crystal Server and it set up MySQl with TomCat 5.5
    I did adjust the web.xml config file. I still does not work
    I did get it to work in the XI environment with the registry modification.
    However I can not get the OpenDocument() to default ot  .aspx and not .jspx

    Firstly, I would like to know, how did you get your Crystal Report 2008 work on Xi Version as it is not supported. How do ya preview your crystal report in designer? is it through normal refresh or you select html preview. If you selecting HTML preview and stil getting the HTML code and not the translation then you might not have configured your web.xml file correctly. Make sure you enter under
    <install dir:>\Program Files\Business
    Objects\Tomcat55\webapps\CrystalReports\WEB-INF\web.xml
    *//----//* (under the last context parameter)
    <context-param>
    <param-name>
    crystal_encode_html_for_single_line_field_objects
    </param-name>
    <param-value>no</param-value>
    </context-param>
    If you have tried the above and still no luck then please check the web.xml parameter entry placement. The issue is related and restricted only for parameter entry under web.xml and not cuz of any other casue. After making an entry restart your tomcat. Do not forget to take the bck up of web.xml before you tamper it. Hope this helps

  • Difference Crystal Reports - Crystal Reports Server

    Hi everybody,
    what is the difference between this products?
    Thx,
    Bernd

    Hi
    Crystal Reports (Designer) is the designer tool required to create the CR reports. The CR Server is a server product that will allow you to publish your report in the intranet/internet so that the users can access them over their internet browwser. It also allows you to schedule your reports and do report bursting. A rather simplified statement is that the CR Server is like the BO server but supports only CR reports.

  • Winform Crystal Viewer & Crystal Report Server 2013

    Hi everyone,
    I was curious whether it's possible to display a Crystal Report that is located on a Crystal Report Server 2013 via the Winform Crystal viewer (CrystalDecisions.Windows.Forms.CrystalReportViewer) given everything is set such as single sign on etc.?
    Can anyone point me to the right members or give an example?
    I know that we can access the report through the URL, e.g.
    http://<servername>:<port>/BOE/CrystalReports/viewrpt.cwr?id=1152&apsuser=JLee&apspassword=secret&ap
    sauthtype=secEnterprise
    This will need to be open in a web browser though. We would like to have a UX where user opens up the report in a winform that contains additional features such as actions etc.
    Thank you.

  • Crystal Reports 2008 Repository Explorer

    Hi,
    I am new to Crystal Reports 2008. I want to use Crystal Reports 2008 Repository.  My question is as it was done in Crystal Report 9 Professional edition that a crystal report developer can create a Repository while using Crystal Report 9 Professional edition without Crystal report Server, Is this also possible with Crystal Report 2008. If we only have Crystal Report 2008 designer or developer edition, can we create Repository's i.e.  Text Objects,  Images,  Custom Functions,  SQL  Commands etc without having Crystal Report 2008 Server, if yes please let me know the method.
    Thanks in advance
    Thanks
    Vipin

    Hi,
    I was on web found this link
    http://www.crystalkeen.com/articles/crystalreports/repository.htm
    which says that:
    Crystal Reports: Repository
    A solid understanding of the repository can really improve the the efficiency, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness of your reports. Hammerman and Associates offers classes on this very subject. We aren't going to cover all of it here, but will provide some highlights.
    Use the CR9 Repository for those commonly used objects
    The Crystal Reports 9.0 repository is a great place to store some commonly used items in your report. This includes text strings, images, SQL Commands (see next item) and Custom Formulas.
    The Repository is initially stored in an Access database and has an ODBC connection with the System DSN of u201CCrystal Repository.u201D But you can use any ODBC data source including a database in your network so you can all share the same common objects.
    Create a new database for the repository. We recommend you copy the existing MS-Access database, but you can start with an empty database. (The initial repository is Repository_en.mdb, stored in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Crystal Decisions\2.0\bin).
    Create an ODBC connection to the new database. The new database does not have to be an Access database. If you use your SQL Server or Oracle server then, by using server security you can control who can view and who can edit items in the repository.
    You next need to set Crystal Reports 9.0 to use this new Database connection. This control information is stored in an INI file and can be edited with any text editor such as NotePad. The INI file is at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Crystal Decisions\2.0\bin\orMap.ini .
    There is a line in this file that saysu2026 Crystal Repository=Crystal Repository .
    Edit this to say Crystal Repository=New ODBC DSN.
    Is this also possible with Crystal Report 2008 designer/developer edition.
    Thanks

  • App coded in Crystal XI need to be compatiable with Crystal 2008. Options?

    Dear All,
    The product I am working on, works fine with Crystal XI. But now task is to make it work for clients that have just Crystal 2008 (not Crystal XI). (Even assuming there is no new feature that Crystal 2008 offer is planned in this existing application.)
    I was wondering what would be the best bet to make that application compatiable? Certainly we do not want to have two seperate application coded separatly for Crystal XI and Crystal 2008.
    I will appreciate any information, feedback, guidance that you can provide on this.
    Thanks

    am actually using Visual Studio .NET 2008 only with Crystal Reports XI R2. I was not aware of the fact that Crystal Reports XI R2 does not work with Visual Studio 2008. It could be that since I have both Visual Studio 2005 and 2008 in my machine, and this could be referring to old one.
    I believe Visual Studio 2008 came with .NET framework 3.5 and in theory 3.5 does all that 2.0 used to do. So I am not sure what would be the reason of .NET 2008 not supporting it. May be I am missing something, please help me clarify?
    - See the supported platforms doc here:
    https://websmp106.sap-ag.de/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01100035870000712240&_SCENARIO=01100035870000000202
    (choose Business Objects XI release2 / crystal reports -> crystal reports -> crystal reports XI r2 -sp2 - supported platforms.
    .NET 2008 is not listed. That is as far as this discussion should need to go. E.g.; do not use CR XI r2 with .NET 2008, or .NET 2010 when it comes out - if you do, you're on your own.
    Option-1) Now my worry is can same application; when installed on a client who has just crystal report 2008 (not upgrade from XI-R2) run-time installed, will work OK?
    As long as you run CR XI r2 with the supported version of .NET (e.g.; in your case .NET 2005) there will be no issues after installing CR 2008 as CR 2008 and CR XI r2 are side by side compatible. One thing I would highly discourage is running reports created in CR 2008 with CR XI r2.
    Option-2) Is there any change in existing code, I need to do so that irrespective of what run-time environment client has (XI R2 or, Crystal 2008), my application runs fine without any issue?
    If you install CR 2008 SP0 after installing .NET 2008, you should not need any code modification to an already working app. All that will happen is that the CR assemblies will get upgraded to version 12.x. Of course, you then need to distribute the CR 2008 runtime to your client / server computers.
    Any other option...
    Not sure where the confusion is, but I am not sure why we'd want to look for other options(?).

  • Report and Field Explorer dont work in Crystal Reports 2008

    Hi
    I am using the following versions of Crystal Reports:
    Crystal Reports 2008  (Service Pack 1)
    CR Developer
    Version 12.1.0.892
    Product Type: Full
    Target environment: .NET 3.5 windows forms and asp.net application
    Since a couple of days, i can no longer access the field explorer nor the report exlorer. Anything else seems to be working fine. I first thought these windows were somewhere hidden behind another window but as much as i searched, i didnt succed in finding them :-(.  Our product has a valid licence and is registered, by the way.
    My question is now, what do i have to do to get my field/report explorer again. Maybe, installing the latest service pack had an influence, but i cannot tell for sure.
    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks in advance

  • Crystal ActiveX Runtime Lib: Change text data source path at run time.

    We have some PCs running Crystal Reports 10 and some running CR 9 and 8.5. For each PC, we set up a System DSN ODBC data source (in Control Panel - Administrative Tools) for pulling data from text files to
    generate reports.
    Recently we wrote some routines (see the Visual Basic example at the
    end of this message) to change the path of the data files at runtime.
    According to the Crystal Reports Technical Reference Guide, we may use
    the method LogOnServer() of an Application object or an DatabaseTable
    object. However, we find that this does not work: the PrintOut()
    method only pulls data from the default path as configured for the
    System DSN, not from the path passed as the third parameter of
    LogOnServer(). It does not return any error message.
    We have also tried to use SetTableLocation() method, and it still does
    not work.
    Would any experts examine our code below and advise what we are missing? Thanks.
    For the following VB example, we have:
    System DSN Name: AP_WORKSHEET
    Driver: Microsoft Text Driver
    Database Directory: D:\0ood2 (i.e. the default path)
    Crystal Report Document: D:\3g\run\Vision\apcyto\Reports\crBlockWS.rpt
    (Which specifies that the data source text file name is BlockWS.txt)
    Purpose : We would like to read the data source text file from
    D:\0ood1 instead of the default path.
    Following is the code of the VB macro:
    Sub test()
    Rem In this version of the subroutine, we call
    Rem DatabaseTable.LogOnServer() and "Rem"ed out
    Rem Application.LogOnServer() and SetTableLocation().
    Rem We have un"Rem"ed each of them and "Rem"ed others and try to run.
    Rem In all runs, data are pulled from the default file
    Rem D:\0ood2\BlockWS.txt instead of D:\0ood1\BlockWE.txt.

    Dim crxRep As CRAXDRT.Report
    Dim crxDB As CRAXDRT.Database
    Dim crxTab As CRAXDRT.DatabaseTable
    Dim crxConnPs As CRAXDRT.ConnectionProperties
    Dim crxConnP As CRAXDRT.ConnectionProperty
    Dim apropSubLoc As String
    Dim apropConnBufStr As String
    Set crxapp = CreateObject("CrystalRuntime.Application")
    Rem
    crxapp.LogOnServer "p2sodbc.dll", "AP_WORKSHEET", "<CRWDC>DBQ=D:\0ood1",
    Set crxRep = crxapp.OpenReport
    ("D:\3g\run\Vision\apcyto\Reports\crBlockWS.rpt")
    Set crxDB = crxRep.Database
    Set crxTab = crxRep.Database.Tables(1)
    apropConnBufStr = crxTab.ConnectBufferString
    apropSubLoc = crxTab.SubLocation
    crxDB.LogOnServer "p2sodbc.dll", "AP_WORKSHEET", "<CRWDC>DBQ=D:\0ood1",
    Rem crxTab.SetTableLocation "D:\0ood1\BlockWS.txt", apropSubLoc, "DSN="
    Rem Set crxConnPs = crxTab.ConnectionProperties
    Rem Set crxConnP = crxConnPs.Item("DSN")
    Rem crxConnP.Value = "AP_WORKSHEET"
    Rem Set crxConnP = crxConnPs.Item("Database")
    Rem crxConnP.Value = "D:\0ood1\BlockWS.txt"
    Rem crxTab.Location = "BlockWS.txt"
    crxRep.DiscardSavedData
    crxRep.PrinterSetup (0)
    crxRep.PrintOut
    End Sub
    For VB macros, the problem exists in all of CR 8.5, 9 and 10. However,
    for another platform we are using, Unify Vision 4GL, it works for CR
    8.5 while not working for CR 9 and 10.
    Following is the source code in Unify Vision 4GL. This language may

  • Error when saving Crystal Report  to SAP BW (via SAP toolbar)

    Dear Experts -
    Our landscape is:
    Backend - SAP BW7.4 with Service pack 5
    Crystal Version - Crystal Reports 2013 SP1 Patch 6
    Business Objects - SAP BI 4.1 SP1 Patch 6
    I'm trying to save a crystal report to SAP BW via the toolbar option, but the attached error is being returned.
    Also, if I try to create a new report from BW, an error is thrown.  'An error occurred while generating a new report template; No error'.
    Any feedback/pointers would be valuable.

    I realize this post is a few months old, but did S. B. O. Shell Business One get this issue cleared up by installing the BW transports mentioned in Josh's reply?  I'm interested in knowing whether this was resolved as we are receiving the same error as the one shown in the initial post.

  • How to Call a Crystal Report from Form 6i?

    Dear All,
    Can anybody tell me how to call a crystal report, designed using Crystal Report 9, in form 6i? I tried one solution by using the host command but it was not working properly. The code I was tried is like:
         f_name varchar2(240);
         f_name :='C:\Program Files\Crystal Decisions\Crystal Reports 9\crw32.exe D:\Form16\Form16_Rep\bin\Debug\Form_16_character_emp.rpt';
                   host(f_name);
    This open the crystal report in design view. So how we call a report which run automatically like in .Net. How to pass the connection info of the database schema?
    Thanks & Regards
    Sunil

    Hi
    First see the built in run_product function.
    You can create a parameter list, add the
    "MAXIMIZE" paramter in it and then call your
    report with run_product passing your parameter list in it.
    hence the called report will be maximized.

  • Crystal Report and SAP BW

    I have just installed the Crystal Report 2008 from the CD provided by the SAP. I installed it on Window Server 2008.
    The installation completed successfully, however, when I double-click to run the Crystal Report, I hits the following error:
    Crw32.exe u2013 Entry Point Not Found
    The procedure entry point?PrintLegend@CMapXLegend@CSLib300@@AEXJJJJJ@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library cslibu-3-0.dll
    I found the similar problem on the web with following solution (although this is not mentioned in Ingou2019s blog):
    After installing crystall report 10 or 11, follow these steps:
    1. Right-click My Computer, then click Properties then click the Advanced tab.
    2. Click the Performance Settings button then click the Data Execution Prevention tab.
    3. Select the Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select: check box.
    4. Add all of the Crystal Enterprise executables.
    5. click ok. and close the window. open crystall report now
    But I canu2019t even find the crw32.exe on the server!!! What is the problem??
    Then I continue to install the Crystal Report 2008 Service Pack 2. When I install, I hits the following:
    This patch only apply to crystal report 2008 SP1 u2013 Setup will exit now.
    Why? I thought we should apply the SP2 for crystal report 2008 but why I hit the error?
    I downloaded the following patch from sap website:
    CRYSTALREPORTS02_0-10007442.EXE
    Please help, thank you.

    Stratos,
    Can you explain the following:
    You do have to install first CR 2008 V1 and then apply SP2 on top of it.
    We're installing the Crystal Report 2008 from the CD given by SAP. From the SAP download website, there is Crystal Report 2008 V0 and Crystal Report 2008 V1. What is the different? The CD didn't mentioned if it is Crystal Report 2008 V0 or V1.
    What I have done is installed the Crystal Report 2008 from the CD. Then install the CRYSTALREPORTS02_0-10007442.EXE which I downloaded from SAP website ->SAP BusinessObjects portfolio ->CRYSTAL REPORTS ->CRYSTAL REPORTS 2008 V1, but hits the following:
    This patch only apply to crystal report 2008 SP1 u2013 Setup will exit now.
    Sould I download the patch from:
    SAP BusinessObjects portfolio ->CRYSTAL REPORTS ->CRYSTAL REPORTS 2008 V1
    OR
    SAP BusinessObjects portfolio ->CRYSTAL REPORTS ->CRYSTAL REPORTS 2008 V0
    Please advise.

  • Crystal Report Oracle Logon Problem

    Hi,
    We are using Webforms for launching the reports.  When we tried to launch the reports system is prompting for logon information.  It states "The report you requested requires further information." followed by text box having Server Name,  Database Name, User Name, Password and use integrated security(checkbox).
    We are using Oracle backend for connecting the database.  Crystal Report RPT is designed using the OLEDB ADO (Database Type) and the provider is u201CMSDAORAu201D.
    The same report is working fine when the Internet service manager identity is set as u201CLocal Systemu201D reported problem occurs when the identity is set as u201CNetwork Serviceu201D.  How to over come this issue.
    Crystal Version : Crystal Reports 2008 is installed
    Operating System : Windows server 2003 standard edition
    Oracle Version : Oracle 11g
    Please Note : Report is fetching data from the crystal report designer in the preview.  There is no problem in oracle connectivity.
    Code is available below
    rpt.Load(@"D:\report\totaldetails_sub_sp_oracle.rpt");
    CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.Database crDb;
    CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.Tables crTables;
    CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.Table crTable;
    TableLogOnInfo crTableLogOnInfo;
    ConnectionInfo crConnInfo;
    crDb = rpt.Database;
    crTables = crDb.Tables;
    crConnInfo = new CrystalDecisions.Shared.ConnectionInfo();
    crConnInfo.ServerName = "< Oracle Service Name>";
    crConnInfo.DatabaseName = "";
    crConnInfo.UserID = "<Oralce User Name>";
    crConnInfo.Password = "<Oracle Password>";
    for (int i = 0; i < crTables.Count; i++)
             crTable = crTables<i>;
    crTableLogOnInfo = crTable.LogOnInfo;
    crTableLogOnInfo.ConnectionInfo = crConnInfo;
    crTable.ApplyLogOnInfo(crTableLogOnInfo);
    CrViewer.ReportSource = rpt;

    Thanks a lot for replies ...
    To use oracle client 32 bit on the x64 server may be a problem for the next times. And my project leader don't want to change oracle client version (x64). So I try to change my reports connections to ODBC type.
    Now, I want to ask another question:
    Firstly, I will test these changes on 32 bit. Later, I test it on 64 bit.
    My report are created on Crystal reports 10, 32 bit. I change the connection type by using "Set Datasource Location" menu. I test this ODBC connection with my report on 32 bit platform. I can see the records on the Crystal Reports when I refresh my report. This is OKEY. ODBC connection is success on 32 bit.
    But, in my project (this is an web application, and it is working 32 bit and 64 bit successfully), I can't see the records. I debuggged my project on 32 bit with Visual Studio. For this, I put some breakpoints on to the specific places. I watch that two records are taken from database. Everything is good. But when "reports.aspx" file opens, these records don't appear. Before changing connection type , this records were listed in my project on 32 bit.
    For this, have you any ideas ?
    Thanks ...
