Crystal Report and stored procedure calls

Hi,
1. I am trying to access a Stored Procedure through Crystal Reports 2008. I have 3 Parameters in it and now I need the 2 Parameters from the stored Procedure to be given by User and the 3rd Parameter should be passed from the backend code. Please help me with the setps that would help me do this.
2.I also have another Stored procedure where I have 3 parameters and in addition to that I should provide two other parameters for user to enter. Now the total number of parameters will be 5 Parameters. Can any one let me know how to implement all these parameters.
3. In another Storedprocedure I have two Parameters which are discrete and multi select and both of them are cascaded. How do I implement those.
Thanks
Pradeep

• Crystal Reports 2008 Stored Procedure and Parameters from LOVs

Quite simple report using stored procedure as data source. When editing some of the parameters we get this error when clicking OK to close "This stored procedure parameter can only accept multiple values. Please ensure that Allow Multiple Values is true."
As we all know stored procedure parameters do not access multiple values at all, so this message is very hard to debug. The report does work if we set the 'Allow Multiple Values' to true, but only when using exactly one value for the parameter. We have tried verify database and other things, but cannot find any way around this issue.
All ideas are appreciated as this is stopping us from utilizing the dynamic parameters.
Thanks, Stig

We managed to work around the issue by creating a new stored procedure. First we used the same parameter names and changed the data source to the new stored procedure. After renaming the parameter with the issue the problem then was resolved.
Note that another parameter that was earlier affected by this issue in the way that it could not be edited and saved due to the same error message now also works fine. This even if this parameter has not changed names.
Quite a complex situation to debug this. Maybe if the source of the error message is found in the code we could help testing.

• Select multiple items from a list box as values for a parameter of crystal report and Oracle procedure

- I have a Product list box (asp.net) used as multiple selected values for a parameter.
- The Product ID is defined in the Oracle procedure as NUMBER data type.
- In my crystal report, I have a parameter field allow multiple values as p_product_id type as Number. This is the code in my Record Selection Formula for the report:
({?p_product_id}[1] = -1 OR {Procedure_name.product_id} in {p_product_id})

List<decimal?> productUnit = new List<decimal?>();

Can someone give me an idea how to use data inputted on vb form to be use as basis of crystal report generation which loads data from a stored procedure. Hi John,
If Not CRRpt.ParameterFields("AgeType") Is Nothing Then
CRRpt.ParameterFields("AgeType").CurrentValues.Clear()
Dim ParamValue As new CrystalDecisions.Shared.ParameterDiscreteValue
ParamValue.Value = AgeType.ToString
CRRpt.ParameterFields("AgeType").CurrentValues.Add(ParamValue)

• Crystal Reports - Using Stored Procedure with c#

Post Author: cathalmckenna
CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
Hey
I've got some c# code that sets a reports data source.
Its works when connecting to a data source that is a Table, however when the datasource is a Stored Procedure the following error is generated.
The table 'PNL_STATUS_REPORT' could not be found.Error in File C:\DOCUME1\mckennac\LOCALS1\Temp\temp_9b3cb2f4-7e37-4e34-bd18-af7b06c85139 {ACBDC2D4-A275-4CAA-B3C0-E3C92F615007}.rpt:The table could not be found.
The problem is when setting table.Location. I've tried prefixing this with the package name that the stored proc is in, but no luck. If I set the table Location to the package name, I get no error, but the report returns no results.
Any ideas why this doesnt work, is there a different way to handle stored procs??
ConnectionInfo connInfo = new ConnectionInfo();            connInfo.DatabaseName = dbName;            connInfo.ServerName = serverName;            connInfo.UserID = userName;            connInfo.Password = password;                        foreach (Table table in report.Database.Tables)            {                TableLogOnInfo logOnInfo = table.LogOnInfo;                string[] locations = table.Location.Split('.');                string unqualifiedLocation = locations[locations.Length - 1];                logOnInfo.ConnectionInfo = connInfo;                table.ApplyLogOnInfo(logOnInfo);                table.Location = unqualifiedLocation;            }

I too am having the same problem. I have found that when the user has a fast connection it works OK but when they use a "slow" link it does not seem to passs the logon information through before trying to generate the report.

• Crystal Reports with stored procedures

Hello Members,
I have come across a unique problem (only for me I guess). When I develop a report using a sql command (with sql script), I can run this report against any server or any datatbase dynamically with out using the "Set Data Source Loaction" found under database fields in field explorer. This report is based on a stored procedure and uses a OLEDB connection. When I developed this report for the first time, I defined its database connection (servername, database). Now I have created a same procedure with the same name on different server under a different database. I wanted to run this report against the new server, but I am getting an error " Failed to retrieve data from database". If i click OK on this pop up window. It displays another pop up window and says the old database name is not found in the new server. The criteria is the report should be able to run on any database on any server if the same stored procedure exists in there just like the report with sql command runs. How to solve this problem ?
Thanks in Advance!!!!

Hi Raghavendra,
I know that is one of the way to do this ands it is manual process. The problem here is different clients will be running this report. Each client's data is located on different server and different database and this update process should be done automatically. Do you know any way to do this ?
Thanks!!!!

• Error when linking report to stored procedure defined with one input parm

Error when linking report to stored procedure defined with one input parameter

valuationmode
from valuation
where valuationmode = @valuationmode;
End;

This is an example of a stored procedure that is trying to be linked to a new report as the only datasource.
If I remove the parameter I can create a report, however this will return all of the results of thw query to the report, rather than the desired results. If I add the parameter on the Crystal Report, the stored procedure then has to return all of the results to Crystal and then perform the filtering of records. By using a parameter in the stored procedure, you should be able to do all of the filtering as part of the query on the databse server, making this more efficient.

• Oracle Stored Procedure call in a Derived Table?

Can a statement that defines derived table in the Designer contain a call to an Oracle Stored Proc? The proc takes one varchar2 parameter and returns a result set that consists of one field of several records and is currently implemented via sys_refcursor (return type is flexible as long as it allows to pass the result set back)
Is there any difference between BOXI R2 and R3.0 regarding to the matter?

Hi there,
In XI R 3 you can now created a special universe to use stored procedures.A stored procedure universe is a special universe that enables Web Intelligence users to access stored procedures residing in the database. In BusinessObjects XI Release 3, you can use stored procedures with Desktop Intelligence and with universes in Designer. You also benefit from universes that contain stored procedures for Crystal Reports and Web Intelligence.
XI R 2 no can do.
Hope this helps

• How to generate a report from stored procedure

I would like to generate a report from stored procedure.
I used to work on sql server. this can be done as easy as put a select statement at the end of stored procedure.
The resule can be displayed on the development IDE, like sql developer or consume by Java JDBC client.
is there equivalent way to do this in Oracle stored procedure?

Hi,
What type of report you are looking..for.. ??
As you said that "I used to work on sql server. this can be done as easy as put a select statement at the end of stored procedure. "
When you execute it will return the result set and you will display directly on the FrontEnd.. Is my Understanding is correct Up to here.
See, In oracle you have call some custom stored procedures as you did in SQL Sever, but you have return the Results Sets, with help of Out put paramter, Either Cursors or Varrays..
or Else you can generate the Html reports based on your requirement, HTML can be used in the stored procedures of Oracle which will generate for your, you need to code it.
I could not able get the relevant link for your reference.
I will get back to you on this.

• Passing parameters to sub report's stored procedure

I'm attempting to pass values from the main report to a linked sub report's stored procedure, but I haven't been successful yet.
I know how to filter the parameters on the return set of the stored procedure, using parameters from the main report. However, I would like the stored procedure executed for each record of the main report, using those values passed.

I was getting "missing parameter values" trying to send parameters to a stored procedure in the subreport. Turns out there is a hot fix for my issue. Not sure if it matches what you're trying to do; you need to give more information on what you've already tried.
I was using CR XI, and also CR for VS 2005. The problem seems to be fixed with CR VS2005 SP1, for Visual Studio CR.
Look up under Business Objects Downloads: Crystal Reports > .NET > Hot Fixes
Files:
CRRedist2005_x86.msi
crvs05sp1.exe
Then open the report again, and re-save it.
This has fixed the problem for me.
Good luck!

• Crystal Report Print Engine API calls from Powerbuilder

I am using Crystal Report XI R2 with Powerbuilder 9.0. I am using Crystal Report API calls using crpe32.dll to display my reports. When i run my reports from my development machine where Crystal Reports is installed the reports run properly, but when i deploy my application on a server where Crystal Reports is not installed the report gives me error "Report has not been opened" , Error 599.
The database logon info is properly set in the RPT file.
I want to know whether it is possible to run reports without installing Crystal Reports and how do you do it?

Somehow, you will have to install the CR runtime...
Probably the best way will be to create a deployment project using a utility such as InstallShield, Wise, MS Visual Installer, etc. Use the RDC merge modules and add the crpe32.dll to the deployment project, ensuring the crpe32.dll is installed into the ...\3.5\bin directory. The Correct msm files are here:
https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100009381702008E/crxir2sp4_rdc_mm.zip
BTW., using the print engine APIs... Not something recommended, nor supported. Last header files for the crpe APIs shipped in version 9...

• EJB 3.0 Persistence API and Stored Procedures

Does the EJB 3.0 Persistence API in any way prescribe or facilitate the use of Stored Procedure calls? Given the recent popularity of using (database) server APIs consisting of Stored Procedures that are addressed by ORM frameworks for performing the DML operations and of course the general usefulness of stored procedures for specific data related operations, there definitely is a need for clarity on using the straightforward Persistence operations in combination with calls to Stored Procedures. Can we use the Native Query for executing CallableStatements? Can we get to a Connection instance from the EntityManager? Can we easily use the results from a Stored Procedure invocation to refresh our Domain Objects - or is that all application logic in which the EntityManager cannot help us?
If the spec does not help us at this point, do you know how TopLink will deal with this topic?
Thanks for any help you can give me!
Best regards,

I'm am also interested in a response to this post. I've just upgraded to JDeveloper 10.1.3.1 and am interested in making calls to stored procedures.
I've found examples of just creating my own session beans but it seems I would have to hard code the datasource name. Does anyone know if I can get around this using the entity manager supplied by the tool?
thanks,

• Remote Stored Procedure Call Dispatcher WEB WERVICE

Hello all,
Environment: Windows OS, Oracle 10g, mod_plsql
I am looking for solutions to the following problem:
A way to dispatch calls to stored procedures from client to server with a minimal impact on performance.
We are looking at two possible solutions:
1) Making a call to a Remote Stored Procedure Call Dispatcher (RSPCDispatcher) stored procedure through mod_plsql.
2) Making a call to a Remote Stored Procedure Call Dispatcher (RSPCDispatcher) stored procedure through a web service.
Solution 1) is not the preferred one as you may already know that mod_plsql will not be supported starting 12g.
Solution 2) is the one we prefer as we believe that web services will be ever more supported in the future. When we move to 11g we may turn this web service into a native one (avoiding overhead in the OC4J for hosting the web service etc.).
We are looking for code examples and information pointers of how we could implement this dispatcher as a stored procedure in a DB package. We know that the implementation should be similar to the one done for mod_plsql in the OWA schema but the code there is obfuscated, so we could not borrow ideas from there.
We are not sure how to deal with the generalization of the above stated problem. We need to be able to pass to this dispatcher the stored procedure package and name we are invoking, ordered list of parameters (or parameters map), and the transport strategy (XML, JSON, etc.).
Basically, we are notsure how to deal with the USING clause of the EXECUTE IMMEDIATE statement. We can dynamically generate the SQL statement corresponding to the stored procedure we want to call, but we are not sure how to bind the parameters we are passing?
Also, we know that EXECUTE IMMEDIATE may be slow sometimes. So if could avoid it, this could further improve performance.
Perhaps the run-time generalized stored procedure execution may not be what we are looking for?! Perhaps we should include several design-time steps?! What about a script that given a package name (or just a single stored procedure) would generate a wrapper package which stored procudures' names would correspond to their respective counterparts in the given package which would take two parameters - the list of parameters in some sort of format, and the transport (content delivery strategy) and would return the result in the given content delivery strategy?! This script may also define the XSD of the XML message a stored procedure is called with (the parameter map) as well as the XSD of the XML result the stored procedure returns. Also the script could generate client code with the given language strategy (Java, .NET, etc.) for calling the RSPCDispatcher web service.
We request the following from the Oracle community folks:
a) Please, give us any relevant information that could be helpful to resolve this problem.
b) Any resource of how to inspect stored procedures in a package, its parameters, parameter types and direction (IN, OUT, or INOUT), etc.
Thank you very much in advance.

• DML visibility in stored procedures called via JDBC

Hello,
I have two stored procedures, A and B. Proc A inserts Q into table X. Proc B selects Q from table X to insert it into table Y. Neither procedure does a COMMIT.
My Java class executes Proc A and then Proc B within a transaction (autocommit is false). But Proc B fails to select Q from table X with the No Data Found error, apparently unable to see the recently inserted Q.
If these two procedures are called from a SQL*Plus block, everything succeeds.
Does anyone have a clue about what I am missing? All my DML should be visible to my session.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
- CJ

Thank you, Joe, for your reply!
To the best of my knowledge, all of my stored procedure calls are being made from the same connection so I can rollback everything if necessary. I have not explicitly closed the connection between calls. The debugger indicates my connection session id never changes across calls.
Do you know of any JDBC trace tools that might help me verify my connections? I've enabled logging with oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleLog.setTrace(true) but it doesn't really give me specific connection information - at least not that I can tell. :)
Thanks!
