Crystal Report Desing question

Hello everybody,
Im a newbie to the Crystal reports envrionment. I have to design a report, using Crystal reports 11 , which will show an entity, its address phone number ets as the main row in the report. If an advanced option is clicked on the filter, a child section will be shown, containing filenames associated to that entity in the database. How do i design this report . Any inputs would be gretaly appriciated. Also this is being done in a Java environment, like the filters and all will be in a jsp page. However .net implementation would be acceptable, as i require the solution if at all this is possible.

BW Query variable default value put in Crystal report variable question

Why BW Query variable default value put in Crystal report variable for BO InfoView to open crystal report.
I using Analyzer to open bw query,variables had default value ,but crystal report can't had variable default value ,and can't search variable value.

Crystal Reports Version Question

Hello,
I am developing a web site using vs 2010 and the compatible version as downloaded from here. I have come across a small issue that I'm sure is easily solvable but I can't find any references to it. When I try to run this solution on another machine or server with crystal reports 10 installed I notice that the graphs colours aren't matching to as set in the report. I understand that this is a version issue but without installing vs 2010 and then the crystal report version supported onto another machine. Is there away or an installation just so that the reports work as expected (fo this version without installing vs 2010).
I tried downloading the redist 32 bit version from here and updating the config file accordingly but when I then generate a report I'm getting a database logon failed error.
Note that if I change the webconfig file back to 10.2.3600.0 from the recently changed 13.0.2000.0 then the report works as expected, except the graph colours aren't using the conditional colours.
Am I doing something horribly wrong?

I'm not sure I understand the details here - I htink the description gets a bit muddled as it goes. E.g.; this:

is a source of confusion for me(?).
In any case, CRVS2010 and CR 10.2 should be (as far as I know, are) side by side compatible. Based on my interpretation of the statement above, I wonder about the runtime being deployed. The CRVS2010 runtime is here:

We purchased CRSXIR2 from Business objects and have 1 yr maintenance.
I want to upgrade to Crystal Report Server 2008.
Where can I get the media for a 64bit version of Crystal Report Server 2008?
Can 32 bit clients using Crystal Reports 10 or 11 integrate with a 64 bit install of Crystal Report Server 2008?

Crystal Report Chart Question

I have created a line chart based on a report that has a Sum $ amount field. I also have a running total field for a "count" of records (ttl by year) Year is currently a group. Because it is a running total I am unable to include it in the chart and it is not working. Can anyone help me figure out how I can count the number of records, per year, on my report and create a chart based on this information?

As you have already grouped on Year you can include the count of records at the group level in group footer section for that year .
Go to Insert Summary select ID or Which field you want the count on select count from the calculate this summary option .Summary Location select the group which is year in your case.
Click OK so you get the record count for the years. then plot the chart accordingly.

Crystal Report Add-On not working

Hello Experts,
We have freshly installed Crystal Reports Add-On. when we start the add-on it says it is connected but when we try to access any of the forms in the Crystal Reports sap screen comes up with a message window stating
"There is already an open Datareader associated with this command which must be closed first"
which does allow any further transactions in crystal reports screens.

Crystal Reports in other languages ...

I'm new to crystal reporting my question is can crystal reports (v10 to be specific) present data in other languages like for example Arabic even though your data source is English language? More like translate this data to that language, Is it just a matter of choosing the font when designing or its more complicated than that?

"Unicode support means that the program code level in Crystal Reports is able to recognize language
characters that are based on Unicode.
Unicode is used to display double-byte characters such as the Chinese and Japanese character sets.
This enables you to create Crystal Reports that can display right-to-left languages and multiple
languages in a single report."
So if your data is in unicode Crystal will be able to properly display the various languages.
If you wanted one single report to be viewed in different languages, then static strings in the report would need to be converted into formula fields which changes the text into the appropriate language based on a language parameter. Some strings could not be handled in this manner though such as custom prompting strings.

Crystal Reports Server - Import from v9 to XI

I have a Crystal 9 server and Crystal 11 server, with production reports running on both.I have been asked to get rid of our Crystal 9 server, and import all of our reports into the Crystal 11 server.I intend to use the 'import wizard' tool. Should the import not work as I like, I would like to roll back all my changes.My questions are:1) Will the import tool make any changes to the Crystal 9 instance?2) Is it possible to back up Crystal 11 in its current state, so I can roll it back if need be? Is this just a matter of backing up the MS SQL interface.3) Has anyone else on this forum done this? Can I expect this just to work? Or will it require a lot of manual changes / intervention after the import to make everything work again.Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide.

Crystal Reports Server install from download

I have been tasked by my manager to install & evaluate Crystal Reports Server.
I have gone to the evaluation download site and downloaded the part 1 & 2 files.
Part 1 extracts and give an error message stating that the archive is incomplete. Once unzipping the part 2 there seems to be no setup.exe ?
Can you help me install this evaluation software ?

my question is that, can I delete one single field from this structure on Crystal Report ?

Hi,
in Crystal Reports you can still decide which parts of the underlying query you would like to use in the report.
in case you mean a actual structure in the BW query and having 2 structures overall, one of the structures becomes rows of data in your report and you could if required filter it out.
In terms of texts - you can for sure create your own headings.

Why convert from BI to BO ?
Create in BO directly. Create new. That saves a lot of trouble.
Learn BO. That is the way to GO.

Visual Studio 2005/2008 and Crystal Reports versions/upgrade questions.

I've tried posting this question on the MSDN forums and gotten no response.
I've downloaded and installed VS 2008 Beta 2.   The versions on the Crystal Reports files included are 10.5.0.1806
I'm currently using VS 2005, with the included Crystal Reports. The versions on those files are 10.2.0.xxxx. I've created an desktop app (in VB) which stores it's data in a database and uses the CR 10 runtime merge modules to generate a report.
I was considering upgrading the Crystal Reports version to XI. I would like to allow customers to modify my delivered report with their own licensed copy of CR XI. I am not providing any functionality within my app to create or modify the delivered .rpt or use it outside my application.
Questions:
Do I need to update the runtime files to CR XI to support rpt files modified with CR XI? Current runtime files are being delivered with the CR 10 merge module.
I see a Crystal Reports for Visual Studio upgrade to CR XI.
Can I update the merge modules to CR XI and still use the CR for VS2005 for development?
Does it make any sense to update CR for VS 2005? Or to get the full CR XI Developer edition? My usage of CR functionality is very limited.
Would there be any benefit to waiting for the release of VS 2008?   How does that change the scenario?
How does Crystal Reports for Visual Studio fit in with the Crystal Reports Lifecycle? It's not mentioned on Business Objects End of Life Dates page . Crystal 10 has a Patch EOL of 31-Dec-07.   Does this apply to CR for VS 2005? Where does 10.5 fit in?
My main concern is allowing customers with CR XI to change the format of my delivered .rpt to run with my app. Adding their company name, logo, etc.   My testing show a CR XI report still works with my current app. But, going forward, what should I deliver and what do I need to use to continue development?

To use Reports designed in XI, you need to use XI or higher runtime, running them in older versions may work, but you may encounter unforeseen issues doing so.
If you are to use VS2005 for development you need to use XI Release 2 (11.5) runtime.
If you are going to use VS2008 for development you need to use Crystal Reports 2008 with Service Pack 0.
The support end of life for versions of Crystal Reports bundled with Visual Studio are linked to what Microsoft's lifecycle for the product is. Generally if there is a workaround for the issue that is simple enough, there will not be a patch created.
The changes you are expecting the customer to do can be accomplished with our RAS SDK which is available without using enterprise starting with Crystal Reports XIR2 SP2.

Questions on the functionality of Crystal Reports 2011

i recently got in contact with Cyrstal Reports and have to conduct an analysis about its functionalities and possibilites.
I have some questions which could not be answered using internet research and would be very happy if some of you (who are certainly more experienced) could give me some short answers on them.
1. I know that you need SAP NetWeaver in order to run Business Objects Analyits for MS Offic, but do i need the NetWeaver application also for Cyrstal Reports (CR) ? In my case I have an Oracle database and have not the possibility to change to a Netweaver data warehouse
2. I have a PPT Master document (with predefined action titles, headings etc.). Is it possible to create my charts with CR and then automatically integrate them in my Powerpoint Master? I know that CR can create .png (and other) but I want that the user can change the diagram in powerpoint (e.g. changing colours)
Is that possible ?
3. When having a direct connection to Powerpoint, is there a way that i can identify updated graphics ? I´m thinking of some kind of red dot that symbolized users that this graphic has changed.
4. Is there a way to integrate CR directly in PPT that users have the possibility to create reports in PPT or do I always have to use the CR interface?
Would be very happy if you just could give me some brief answers on the questions cause I have not much experience in the field (as my questions already indicate Wink )

Crystal Reports does not require SAP NetWeaver in order to function. In fact, Crystal Reports is a desktop tool used to create reports. You can then publish those reports to the SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform, embed them in custom applications, or view them directly via a desktop viewer (or in another format).

It is possible to integrate Crystal Reports content directly into Microsoft Office documents by using the SAP BusinessObjects LiveOffice tool.
