Crystal report font issue when rendered as PDF

Hi we are experiencing an issue with custom fonts within Crystal reports.  The font is an open type font that does appear to work if the report is viewed as a crystal report, but when it is rendered or scheduled into a PDF instance it fails and gives a Crystal Reports: Print Engine Error when using openDocument and scheduling gives exporter error. Any help or feedback is appreciated

Aaron,
OpenType is not supported for PDF at least in:
Crystal 10
https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1218086
XIR2
https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1219411
The ADAPT indicated has been postponed.
I canu2019t find an official statement for XI 3.1, however, there is a test you can run and itu2019s to delete the Opentype font from the server and use the same font name but TTF instead.  At least, this behaviour has been reported here:

  • Crystal Report Font ISSUE in PDF

Use the CR9 and CR2008 open the same report template file and export it as pdf file.
The font format in the two pdf files are different.
I compared the font size using File-Options (Fonts used in this document),
In the pdf file created by CR9, it is like:
    Arial +6 (Embedded)
    by CR2008, it is like:
    Arial (Embedded Subset)
How can I make the CR2008 displays the same font like CR9 in the C# code?
Thanks for help, because it's quite important to our project, without getting this resolved, the report files will be rejected by customer.

Download SP2 and test again, if it's still an issue then Please re-post if this is still an issue or purchase a case and have a dedicated support engineer work with you directly:

  • Crystal Reports Formatting issues when exporting to Word Editable document

Version: CR XI, I am editing a document exported from CR to Word Editable
When exporting to a Word Editable (.rtf) document the formatting changes.  For example: lines that were drawn in the report do not come across, there  is a tab in front of each line and a carriage return at the end of each line and spacing and justification formatting are not the same.  Is there a way to export to Word Editable and keep the formatting integrity? This report was developed by a third party but I can edit it if needed.

Pages 5 is, as an early reviewer put it, "an unmitigated disaster." Not only does it lack some 100 feautres that are present in Pages 09 (4.3), it is also VERY buggy, A quick look through these discussions will reveal a painful litany of data corruption, files that cannot be opened, lost data, and other anomalies. Links do not export reliably to PDFs, and, as you've discovered, export to .docx format is unreliable. Sadly, the best advice is to trash Pages 5.1 and use Pages 4.3 or — yes, it's come to that — Word instead.

  • Font issue when viewers download PDF off of site

I have a client creating PDF's and making them available for download on their site using Contribute.
They are creating their PDF's using Publisher, and when they had a hyperlink into the file, the customers see files that have fonts messed up. Is there a way to flatten or compress the file while still having the hyperlink work?
    Thanks!

First, make sure they are embedding all of the document fonts when they create the PDF.

  • Issue when scrolling a pdf - There was a problem reading this document (135)

This is when the PDF is created and rendered/previewed from Acrobat Reader and the issue is there for latest acrobat version too.
When you open the PDF in Acrobat Reader and then when you scroll it and if you have more that one page in the PDF, it gives an error saying "There was a problem reading this document (135)".
Is this a known issue in Acobat? Any resolution? Reinstalling acrobat version didn't help.

    Hi Manulak_Tech,
As you are able to view PDF I had provided, the issue seems to be PDF specific.
So when you scroll the PDF and reach to a page where Adobe Reader cannot read it, the error comes. I am sure the problem lies the way PDF was created. Can you describe how the PDF was created?

  • Seeting Custom Page in Crystal Report 2008 Issue

We were using crystal report from a long time, our application uses crystal report (version 11 & 12)  & Visual Studio (VS 2008) I am using a separate crystal report 12 not the version coming with VS 2008. and recently we upgrade our application from VS 2005 to VS 2008 and upgrade crystal report from 11 to 12, The problem is we print a report in a custom page (height 20.40 cm  , width 38.10 cm) we use a dot matrix printer Epson LQ 2090 and the page orientation is portrait  and the report prints fine In crystal report 11 without any issues, but after we upgrade to crystal report 12 we are unable to get the printout in portrait even we save the crystal report page with the custom page still it?s prints in landscape.
The issue is in crystal report page setup when we select landscape  the horizontal  = 38.10 cm & vertical = 20.40 cm but since I print the report portrait when I change it portrait the values change into Horizontal = 20.40 & vertical = 38.10 but that?s not needed because our printer & the page is capable of printing 38.10 cm wide and 20.40 height , I don?t understand why the values get change when we change the page orientation it didn?t happen in crystal report 11.

    Hi, Rodney;
I believe there was a known issue in the released version of CR 2008. Install the Service Pack 0 for CR 2008, that should take care of the issue.

  • I have a user that has an issue when printing to PDF.

I have a user that has an issue when printing to PDF. When printing to PDF the PC will intermittently freeze and sometimes the print spooler will crash taking all other printers offline. A reboot clears it up for a while but then it comes back.
    Acrobat 11 Pro
    Windows 7 x64
    Office 2010 Professional
Any help would be great!  Thanks

I manage a network of 30,000 + workstations all with Acrobat Pro 10.  Upon upgrading to 10.1.10, they all exhibited similar symptoms printing to the PDF printer.  The problem is most obvious in IE 11, it will cause the browser to stop responding, however it seems to depend on the page being viewed.  For example we can print google.com, but not yahoo.com.
And of course there is no method to roll back to 10.1.9, other than to completely remove and re-install Acrobat.
I hope this is getting addressed soon!

  • Alignement issue when exporting to PDF

    Hello,
I'm having some alignment issues when exporting an InDesign file to PDF.
I have a couple of square pictures, touching eachother at the edges. These are aligned bang on in InDesign (the lines overlap), but when exporting to a PDF and viewing in there, it seems that some seem to jump up slightly.
Is this just a display issue or a setting issue when exporting to PDF?
    Thanks
    Benny

The detail is cropped too tight for me to tell how many photos are intersecting there. Is there a vertical intersection as well? If not, I think you're looking at a very slightly non-rectangular frame, if there is, then you might still be looking at a non-rectangular frame, or the frames are not perfectly aligned, which doesn't surprise me if you snapped to a guide -- I find that less than 100% reliable since CS6.
Presuming that you've zoomed in to show us the problem, that's probably a single pixel misalignment and you'd be very hard pressed to see it in printed output without a loupe.
You can check the bottom edge of the top photo, and the top edge of the bottom photo(s) for being out of horizontal by using the direct select tool to select the corner points and seeing if the y-coordinate is the same on both sides of the frame.
My printer tell me to always overlap frames, rather than butting them, for trapping, for what that's worth, but I don't always do what he says, and I've never had a problem.

  • PDF Format Oracle Reports font issue

My process is generating the batch oracle Reports.
    Their key map is:
    Key1: %* server=server1 userid=xxxs/xxx@xxxx report=D:\sample.rdf destype=file desformat=PDF
My process is calling IAS server to generate report. IAS ser is generating and saving the report in the specified location.Reports are running on the server locally and DESTYPE=FILE. So the Oracle Reports output is saved on the server itself. Whenever i open the report on my machine/server i have font issue. Some of the reports has very tiny font. It seems the reports generated by using oracle reports which is Arial Unicode font type is causing the problem. If any reports other then Arial Unicode font like Arial Westrn, those reports are fine. We have 1000s of reports. So we don't want to change each report font type. For me it seems the issue is with the font on the server. Is there anyway to ask App server use Arial Westrn if Arial Unicode not found. How to make these configuration changes in the server. Any suggestions please.

Maybe this helps or at least points you in some direction ...
Have a look at font aliasing when configuring Application Server : http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/bi.1012/b14048/pbr_font.htm#i1006140
If your Application Server is located on Windows I would suggest to install the fonts there.
In Unix, this a more complex task.

Based on your description, it seems that it is not the VS IDE issue, just to make this issue clearly, whether this issue is related to the SSRS or the report control?
If it is related to the SSRS like these threads

  • Font issue when creating PDF from web page with Acrobat 8

I have a group of documents created with html/css that i am converting to pdf. Everything works slick except for some reason every HTML page that spans more than one printable page in the PDF the first page body text looks bold, the rest of the text (on the subsequent pages) is not. I have 15 documents linked together and its doing it for everyone one, first page looks bold rest of pages not.
I have checked all the font attributes in both the pdf and the html, there is nothing set to bold and all fonts have the exact same settings...
Does anyone know what is going on? I am pretty green with Acrobat but not new to web tech.
    What am I missing here?
Also when printed it looks fine, no issues, issues only in screen view...
    HELP!!
    Thanks
    Scott

It may be that the page sizes are varying and you are seeing a zoom affect. Try setting the size to a specific value and see if it looks the same. That's a guess anyway.

  • Report Title and Text Area issue when exported to pdf using Viewer

    Hi there,
We are using OracleBI Discoverer Version 10.1.2.55.26
We have reports that displays Report title containing the following
    - Report Title
    - Runt Date and Time
    - Page No
And text area which displays 'Last Page'
Following properties are set at the worksheet level using page setup
Report Title --> 'Print on every Page'
Text Area --> 'Print on last page'
The report when exported to PDF using Discoverer plus works fine and displays report title and text area as defeined.
But when we try to export the same report to pdf from Discoverer viewer, it displays
    - Report title on first page only.
    - text area on all pages
All our users accesses report using discoverer viewer so we cannot open discoverer plus to them.
Is there a solution which will enable us to export the report in pdf using discoverer viewer and displays the same output as discoverer plus.
Please let me know... If you have any questions then please feel free to ask.
Thanks in advance for your help...

but when opened on other os x machines some text is colored differently than it should be
Well, if typographic objects are colour managed, the colour appearance is dependent on the source ICC profile that describes the colourants in the typographic objects and the destination ICC profile that describes the colours the display is able to form and the RBC colourant combinations that will form those colours.
In general, typographic objects should have special treatment, since the expectation is not that typographic objects should be colour managed, but that typographic objects should simple be set to the maximum density of dark. On a display, that is R=0 G=0 B=0 and on a seperations device (a lithographic press) that is C=0 M=0 Y=0 K=100.
If for some reason typographic objects are colour managed, and if the ICC profiles for the displays are off by half a mile or more in relation to the actual state of the display system, then the colours will not be the same. On the other hand, if those displays are calibrated and characterized, then the colourants will be converted to form the same colours on the displays.

  • Font shrinks when exported to PDF, again.

    Post Author: Ron Quest
    CA Forum: Exporting
I recently ported my application from classical asp to asp.net and upgraded Crystal Reports XI to Release 2 (6/4/2007 files).  The KBase c2019491 article resolved the font scaling issue I was having with my old application but doesn't work with my dot-net version.   I added the ForceLargerFont=1 under the Suite 11.5 keys which did fix the scaling when I export from the Crystal Report Designer but not when a PDF is created through CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument.Export().
