Crystal reports "Database login failed" when using push method

I have a web application (ASP.NET, .NET v3.5), that pushes data to a CR 2008 report. On two servers one of the three reports returns a "Database login failed" error. I am stumped since there is no login, it's push not pull; in addition the problem is hard to debug since it works fine from my developers workstation. I have "updated" the xsd in that report, reinstalled the app, etc., non of which helped. If anyone has a solution or even ideas I'd appreciate the help.

What about following the troubleshooting steps as described in the blog;
Create an XML file off of your dataset. Make sure this is done just before you set the dataset to the report:
            rpt.Load(rptPath)
myDataset.WriteXml(xmlPath, XmlWriteMode.WriteSchema)
rpt.SetDataSource(myDataset)
Copy the above created XML to your development system
Open the problem report in the Crystal Reports designer
In the Desigger, go to the Database menu and select u201CSet Datasource Locationu201D
In the u201CReplace with:u201D pane, expand the u201CCreate New Connectionu201D folder.
Double click the u201CADO .NET (XML)u201D icon
Browse to the location of the XML file you created in step (1)
Click on the path to the XML. The <Update> button should enable
Click on the <Update> button
Typically, either of the following will happen:
You will get a u201CMap Fieldsu201D dialog. This indicates that the XML written off of your dataset does not match what the report is expecting. This may be due to incorrect fields name, incorrect field type, etc. You will now need eliminate the difference.
Incorrect data or no data. There is an issue with your dataset and you need to determine why the data is not present in your dataset. Looking at the XML may be a good place to start.

    I am trying to pass a dataset to a crystal report viewer using SetDatabaseSource.
    I have defined in Crystal to used an ADO .Net Database XML Schema.
    I pass a Dataset to the Report By using SetDatbaseSourece and set the ReportSource for the CrystalViewer but I get the error that crdb_adoplus.dll does not exists.

  • Database login windows when using DataSet ( CR2008 )

    After executing this code, I get a database login window when using a DataSet, wondering why I am asked for user/pwd when using DataSets.

    Thanks Jonathan for the tip. I tried it before and after the setDatabaseLogin call yesterday, but got the same results. I'm still going to follow your suggestion because that makes more sense.
    Turns out it was the configuration of my ODBC/System DSN that was causing the problem. I reconfigured the System DSN by clearing the check box to provide username/password and now I don't get the Database Login anymore.
    I found a different blog post that answered the OLE DB issue I was seeing where the DatabaseName was coming up blank:
    Login Error Database at Runtime
    Haven't tried it yet and probably won't because I got the Viewer to work with ODBC the way I like it.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Avoid Database Login prompt when using CrystalReportViewer

    Is there a way to keep the Database Login prompt from coming up when using Crystal Reports runtime 2008 SP2? I'm using that plus Visual Studio 2008 to develop a Windows Form application to view reports on a client machine that accesses data on a seperate SQL Server 2005 machine. My customer would like to avoid having users manually enter anything everytime a report is opened with the Crystal Reports viewer.
    I've used the following code with ODBC and OLE DB report connections. When I use ODBC, the prompt comes up with Integrated Security checked which must be cleared. When I use OLE DB, the prompt comes up with Database Name blank and greyed out so I cannot manually enter it.
    Am I missing something here?

  • Database logon failed when opening report with parameter values in CrystalReportViewer

    Hi,
    I designed 2 crystal reports: report A contains parameter fields and report B did not contain any parameter
    I can open both reports in development site using CrystalReportViewer control. When I open the reports in testing site,
    I can open report B but can't open report A. It display error message "Database logon failed". When I set EnableDatabaseLogonPrompt
    to true and try to open the report A again, it shows database connection data which was created on report.
    In addition, it is strange that it displays error "Database logon failed" when I click an item in group tree panel of the report B. This indicates that it can load data from database
    in testing site but it connect to development database when clicking items in group tree panel
    All reports connect to database using Windows Authenication. It use dynamic database connection at runtime
    How to ensure the report always connect database using login data dynamically at runtime?
    Below is my code about database connection:
    string strServerName = null;
    string strDatabaseName = null;
    ReportDocument rptDoc = new ReportDocument();
    rptDoc.Load(strFilePath);
    ConnectionInfo connInfo = new ConnectionInfo();
    TableLogOnInfo logonInfo;
    for (int i = 0; i < rptDoc.Database.Tables.Count; i++)
    logonInfo = rptDoc.Database.Tables[i].LogOnInfo;
    ReportHelper.GetReportConnection(ref strServerName, ref strDatabaseName, strSystemType);
    logonInfo.ConnectionInfo.ServerName = strServerName;
    logonInfo.ConnectionInfo.DatabaseName = strDatabaseName;
    logonInfo.ConnectionInfo.IntegratedSecurity = true;
    rptDoc.Database.Tables[i].ApplyLogOnInfo(logonInfo);
    rptDoc.Database.Tables[i].Location = rptDoc.Database.Tables[i].Location.Substring(0, rptDoc.Database.Tables[i].Location.Length - 2);
    crvViewer.ReportSource = rptDoc;
    crvViewer.DataBind();

  • Load Report fail when use impersonate="true" in dotnet config

    We have VS2005 and use Crystal 11.5. Our crystal report runs fine. When we set <identity impersonate="true" userName=".\user id" password="user password" />
    in our Web.Config file, the report show error "Load report fail".
    Could someone tells me why?
    Thanks
    Tony

    Hi Tony,
    Please check you are using impersonation in same way
    following line below under the <system.web > tag , as illustrated below
    <system.web>
    <identity impersonate="true"/>
    <authtorization>
    <allow users="?"/><authtorization/>
    This may be permission issue. Domain users need access to "C\Windows\Temp directory" and to the report directory try with giving permission .
    Hope this helps!!

  • CR XI R2 "Database Login Failed" Recycled application pool and now it works

    Hello,
    I have a web application using CR XI R2 that has several reports which are pushed a dataset.  These reports have been runing fine until today when I received an error stating "Database login failed."  "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" in the report viewer control.
    I recycled the application pool and the reports started working again.
    My questions are:
    What could be the cause of this and how can it be avoided?
    Why does recycling the application pool correct the problem?
    Regards.

    Hi Tom,
    Recycling keeps problematic applications running smoothly, especially when it is not feasible to modify the application code. Recycling helps ensure that problematic applications do not cause other applications to fail, and that system resources can be recovered from unhealthy applications.
    Recycling an application pool causes the WWW service to shut down all running worker processes that are serving the application pool, and then start new worker processes. Whether the WWW service starts the new worker processes before it stops the existing one depends on the DisallowOverlappingRotation property in the metabase. Recycling an application pool does not alter any state in HTTP.sys or change any configuration in the metabase.
    Note:
    When an application pool is serviced by more than one worker process, the recycle operation is staggered in some scenarios. Only when a worker process is recycled on demand or when all of the worker processes hit their memory limits at the same time would they be restarted simultaneously.
    For more info regarding this have a look to this [article|http://blogs.msdn.com/david.wang/archive/2006/01/26/Thoughts-on-Application-Pool-Recycling-and-Application-Availability.aspx]

  • Crystal report with Parameters failed on Sybase

    I have created the report in crystal report 2008 which accept the parameter. I have used the SybaseServer provider. The report worked fine in Crystal report designer. However when I run the same report through the .net application it fails saying "Logon Failed."  I have set the connection like
    foreach (CrystalDecisions.Shared.IConnectionInfo reportConnectionInfo in reportDocument.DataSourceConnections)
                    if (useTrustedConnection)
                        reportConnectionInfo.SetConnection(dbServerName, databaseName, true);
                    else
                        reportConnectionInfo.SetConnection(dbServerName, databaseName, userId, password);
    The above code work for SQL Server but failed with Sybase.

    First make sure you have SP 2 for CR 2008;
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100009038092009E/cr2008win_sp2.exe
    Next, I'm not sure if the connection you want to use is trusted or not. If it is, see [this|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/b021e47e-be1d-2b10-c6b2-efa9db3abd6b] article. If it is not, see the code documented in the following resources to log on  to the database;

    I am trying to create a Crystal report but when I try to configure a new connection it does not work.
    I select Sap Business One data source and try to complete the information required to connection but it does not list my companies databases, what is the problem?
    Our Current SAP related software details are as follows:
    OS: Windows Server 2008
    SAP B1 Version: SAP B1 9 (902001) Patch 9

  • Crystal Report/STRUTS: Error (404) when clicking on Control Buttons (Print, Export, Next, Previous, etc...) on report viewer

    Post Author: jwenny
    CA Forum: Deployment
    Need help badly!!!
    We are using the crystal reports plugin for STRUTS.
    We are able to display the report in the crystal report viewer.  However, when we click any control buttons (print, export, etc...), then we get:
    JSPG0036E:  Failed to find resource /Report-viewer.jsp
    We then moved Report-viewer.jsp to the WebContents folder (root directory) and got a different error when we clicked any control button:
    Error:  400 page not found
    Does anyone know how to solve this problem?  For instance, is there a setting or parameter that needs to be set?
    Greatly appreciate any help!

    HI,
    Whenever we print the viewer does an auto postback, I believe due to this some of the values are getting missed. Moreover we are referring to the viewer and reportdocument object, it seems. So can you try this simple code in an application to see if it helps:
    ReportDocument rdoc = new ReportDocument();
    rdoc.Load("C:\TASKECrystalReports\Intraday.rpt");
    rdoc.SetDatabaseLogon("uid","pwd");
    rdoc.SetParameterValues("parameter name","value");
    CrystalReportViewer.ReportSource = rdoc;
    Helps?
    Thanks.

    I moved your post to the Universe Forum. It may be a problem with the Universe or could be a problem with you logging into Enterprise/Repository. Either way I suspect it's a configuration issue first.

  • Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer Failed to open document

    Yesterday I created a report in Visual Studio 2008 with about 20 subreports, each subreport containing a single aggregate query (i.e count or sum). I then saved the report file. Hours later when I attempted to reopen the report in Visual Studio I recived the message box "Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer Failed to open document". The report file was completely unusable - it could not be opened for editting.
    Today I repeated the process twice (once ith multiple subreports and once with all aggregate queries combined in a single subreport), only to have the new report files become unusable with the same error message. I am completely shocked at this behaviour from Crystal Reports. I have now spent 10+ hours with no usable report. I realy need a fix for this ASAP!!! Any suggestions would be greatlhy appreciated.

    Hi Jeff,
    Just wanted to confirm you were on SP1.
    I've found that these types of error are usually due to corrupt system files or sometimes even Anti-virus software denying access. If there is no error it's not CR corrupting the file.
    Look in your AV logs to see if it's logging anything.
    Another possibility is with MS pushing out patches they can also cause problems. I've see them change permissions on our dependencies that can cause problems.
    Sorry I can't be specific but without seeing your report or any details you'll have to determine at which step in the report it stops working.
    Can you save any reports now?
    Steps to debug, create a new report with no subreports and save it. Then re-open, if that works then start adding one subreport and then save/open. It may be something related to either the subreports or the number of subreports.
    You could try doing a repair install of VS and SP1.
    Was this working at one time or is this something new, do you have other reports that are similar that have problems?
    You need to debug the report and find out what is causing it to be corrupted. Try adding the 20th subreport and then delete it also.

  • Seagate Crystal Reports: Database Error

    I am using Crystal reports Version 8 and frequently get the error 'Seagate Crystal Reports: Database Error' when I try to open a previously working crystal report file. The error occurs when I click on the Database menu. Every time I get this error I end up redesigning the report as the I have not yet found a solution and I cant run the report.
    The error is a message box with the title 'Seagate Crystal Reports: Database Error' and an ok button - nothing else.
    Its very frustrating!
    Please help.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    What database are you using and how are you connecting to it?
    What are you clicking in the Database menu:  Set Location, Verify Database, Show SQL Query?
    Before opening the report, can you connect to the database first then open the report?
    I would have expected an error code or a more descriptive error to follow.
    Thanks,
    Brian

    WHich version of BO do you use? Go into the CMC navigate to Servers and check the Metrics section of your Central management server. There should be a version number like x.y.z.w there. Can you please post it here?
