Crystal Reports Servers 2008 - Linux and JDBC

Can the Linux version of CR SERVER 2008 use JDBC drivers and if so, where can I find the docs to set one up?
--cnemelka

The CR Server help file is not enough (only describes ODBC), I've already exhausted the methods you described.   All the links in the help file that should allow access to the docs only take you to the main portal (broken?  don't know).  As a brand new CR and CR Server user, the portal is very frustrating.
Example:  http://support.businessobjects.com/documentation/product_guides/default.asp  <-- looks promising, is useless.
Once I figure it out, I'll post the results.

  • Crystal Reports Server 2008 (Linux) - Crystal Reports/MySQL/ODBC Issue

    Hello,
    I have successfully installed CRS '08 on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 server.  All services run fine.
    In the CMC, I have uploaded a Crystal Report that connect to a remote MySQL server.
    I have installed the My SQL ODBC 3.51.11 and .12 Drivers as a System DSN.
    I have proven that the reports run fine in Crystal Reports 2008 directly against the remote MySQL DB server.
    (in Windows but with the same 3.51 ODBC Drivers)
    I have also proven that the database connection works okay from the CRS '08 Red Hat server to the remote MySQL DB server, when also creating a system DSN (using bash ./ODBCConfig)
    The problem is that when I log into the CMC or InfoView, and when I run the Crystal Reports from there, I get an error message:
    "Error in File <MyCrystalReport>: Failed to load database information"
    Is there something wrong with my specific Crystal Reports' Database Configuration? (Right click- Database Configuration)
    I see the driver was registered correctly in the /etc/odbc.ini file
    Am I supposed to set any other ODBC environment variables?
    Is there are firewall issue (port 3306 is already open)?
    In summary, the install was successful, and Crystal Reports can be uploaded and viewed via CMC or InfoView, but I cannot run the Crystal Reports against the database.
    Please advise, Thanks!

    Hi, I'm facing a similar problem. My ODBC DSN never works with CRS. Here are the details:<br><br>
    (1) I  installed the CRS 2008 in /opt/crystalreportsserver_2008_v1/ on a Linux platform. The CRS works well. I created a report with Crystal Reports 2008. This report directly connects to a MySQL server. After I published the report and manually modify its database configuration, I can browse it from InfoView. I'm sure that CRS, MySQL, and a report connecting to MySQL are all good.<br><br>
    (2) Then, I created an ODBC DSN on a Windows platform. This DSN connects to a MySQL server. I created another report with Crystal Reports using this DSN. The report can show the data within Crystal Reports.<br><br>
    (3) Then, I published the second report to CRS, but when I try to browse it, I always get such a message: Failed to open the connection.<br><br>
    I have configured the ODBC for CRS on the Linux server and I think the configuration is correct. This is how I do that: I edited the /opt/crystalreportsserver_2008_v1/bobje/odbc.ini file. In the file I added a data source called ods_telstar. Following is the content of the file:<br><br>
    [ODBC Data Sources]<br><
    CRSQLServerWP=DataDirect 5.3 SQLServer Wire Protocol Driver<br>
    CRSybaseWP=DataDirect 5.3 Sybase Wire Protocol Driver<br>
    CRText=DataDirect 5.3 Text Driver<br>
    %SYBASEDSN%=DataDirect 5.3 Sybase Wire Protocol Driver<br>
    ods_telstar = MySQL<br>
    <br>
    ... <br>
    <br>
    [ods_telstar]<br>
    Description     = ODS on telstar<br>
    Trace       = Off<br>
    TraceFile   = stderr<br>
    Driver      = /opt/crystalreportsserver_2008_v1/bobje/enterprise120/linux_x86/odbc/lib/libmyodbc5.so<br>
    SERVER      = xxx<br>
    USER        = xxx<br>
    PASSWORD    = xxx<br>
    PORT        = 3306<br>
    DATABASE    = ods<br>
    <br>
    In the middle I removed some data source definitions that are by default in the file. Note that I use "xxx" to replace the server name, user, and password. Such information is for internal use and I'm sure the original information is correct. The MySQL ODBC driver file has been put in the correct location. Correct access permissions has been assigned to the file.<br><br>
    I've tried to restart the CRS server, but still the report using ODBC DSN cannot be viewed.<br><br>
    The reason that we want to user ODBC DSN is that we may have many reports to publish. When we design the reports, we specify that they get data through an ODBC DSN such as ods_telstar. If we configure the same DSN on CRS, then we don't need manually modify each report's configuration after we publish them. If these reports are directly connecting to MySQL, then we have to manually modify each one's database configuration after we publish them.<br><br>
    I've no idea what's wrong with all the setup. Any suggestions and comments are appreciated!<br>

  • How to get past Crystal Reports Server 2008 Linux install error

    Hi,
         During the install of Crystal Reports Server 2008 on Red Hat Linux we select use an existing DB (Oracle) and it prompts for:
    Crystal Reports Server 2008 Setup
    Enter the information for your new CMS
    Oracle TNSNAME :
    [SANDBOX                     ] *
    User ID :
    [crystal_rpt                 ] *
    Password :
    which then gives me:
    Crystal Reports Server 2008 Setup
    ERROR
    Failure to validate the database credential has a potential to crash the database at a later stage. Enter the correct information.
    It doesn't let me get past this and just send me back to the previous screen.  I've check and re-checked and the information TNSNAME, User ID, and Password are all correct.  Now I can exit out the install and sqlplus to the database just fine with all that same information.
    What does this error mean?  And how do I get past it?
    Thanks,
    ~Jet

    Hi Jet,
    I've go the same problem. Have you solved this problem?

    Hello
    For published reports, it is possible to reuse the existing JDBC connection setting embedded in side the report.
    But is it possible to set a Custom JDBC driver in the Schedule -> Database -> custom driver?
    By default, it has ODBC driver for MSSQL, Oracle, Sybase and Informix.
    Thanks.

    Sconan,
    Yes theres several issues you're facing that we solved.
    Here's what you need to check
    1) Are you using a 64bit system?  Netsuite ODBC doesnt work with 64bit.
    2) BOXI and Netsuite OpenSSL driver conflict and wont work on the same box.  You MUST seperate the systems.  We have one server running SQL and the ETL, and then a second server running BOXI.  THIS IS WHY CMS WONT START.  THERE'S NO WAY AROUND THIS.
    3) We went through the same steps your describing several times and pretty much pulled our hairs out before we figured it out...because we also were getting valid connections through CR and excel querys.
    What were facing now is that we cant get SSIS to bring over the correct table size values.  Everything is comming over as text with 0 lenghts.
    If you have a minute give me a call.

  • Transfer reports from Crystal Enterprise 9 to Crystal Reports server 2008

    Hello,
    a decision was made to stand up our new Crystal Reports Server 2008 box and only load new reports to it that were created in Crystal Reports 2008, or ones that were modified in CR 2008.
    Now I have all of my users set up and some reports loaded on the new server. There has been a new decision to now move a couple hundred reports off the old server onto the new and also have the same folder structure and schedules as exists on the old CR 9 server.
    Is there an export/import tool that will allow for this?

    Hi,
    i`m not quite sure if you can do this from CRE9 to CRS2008 with the Import Wizard. I think its only supported beginning with CE10.
    Check the Import Wizard Guide from:

  • Crystal Reports Server 2008 Infoview SSO

    I finally have Crystal Reports Server 2008 configured and working for AD authentication with kerberos. Users can now log into Infoview fine.  Now, I need to take the next step and advance the ball to get it working for SSO.  We had this working on our Crystal Reports Server XI environment, but it sure has changed for 2008.  Can anybody provide information and/or documentation on next steps to move from AD Authentication to AD SSO Authentication?  What are best practices? What is most efficient?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    If you are configured for kerberos then you already have the CMS/SIA running under an AD service account correct?
    If so [this doc |https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/002b818d-3db2-2b10-9895-c7b5fd4cbc71]will get vintela SSO working.

  • Crystal Reports Server 2008 V1, RedHat Enterprise Linux, MySQL, ODBC

    Iu2019m confused about connecting to an ODBC source from a report within CMC. Iu2019m a Unix guy; I donu2019t know much about Crystal reports, but Iu2019m working with a Crystal guy to get this thing working.
    <br><br>
    First, background: I have installed Crystal Reports Server 2008 V1 in RedHat Enterprise Linux (5.4), and itu2019s running just fine! Iu2019m using the included Tomcat application server, but Iu2019m storing CMS and Audit data our local running copy of MySQL (5.1.42). The RHEL install is native 32-bit (the only way I could get it to work), Crystal is storing and retrieving data from MySQL, The Central Management Console is responding to port 8080 over Tomcat, Iu2019m able to log in and see stuff, and so far, life is good.
    <br><br>
    Now, where Iu2019m stuck: the data weu2019re trying to build reports from <i>also</i> resides in this local Linux / MySQL install, and connecting to it from a report within CMC is where Iu2019m lost.
    <br><br>
    First, I successfully installed the unixODBC and MyODBC drivers in Linux. Iu2019m able to connect to MySQL successfully using the isql utility. Here are my conf files:
    <br><br>
    <pre class="jive-pre"><code class="jive-code jive-java">/etc/odbc.ini
    [DSN_NAME]
    Driver = MySQL ODBC 5.1 Driver
    DATABASE = project_web_prod
    DESCRIPTION = Project Description
    UID = username
    PWD = password
    SOCKET = /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock
    /etc/odbcinst.ini
    [MySQL ODBC 5.1 Driver]
    Driver = /usr/lib/libmyodbc5.so
    UsageCount = 1
    </code></pre>
    <br>
    Again, this all works with isql (Iu2019ve even used both a socket connection, and port 3306, in odbc.ini).
    <br><br>
    Now, our Crystal guy uploads a report into the CMC. I go to <i>Folders -> <Project Folder></i>, right-click the report I want to test, click <i>Database Configuration</i>, and check the option <i>Use custom database login information specified here</i>. I select database driver <i>ODBC</i> from the dropdown, and type in the server, database, username, and password info. However, when I try to run the report, it fails to connect.
    <br><br>
    So, stupid question, can Crystalu2019s CMC use the system ODBC configuration options? (The ones stored in /etc). Because I saw an odbc.ini file in ~crystalinstalldir/bobje/. I edited it to match the contents of my /etc/odbc[inst].ini files, but to no avail. I saw that Crystal has itu2019s own ODBC engine, but it doesnu2019t support MyODBC driver, does it? I even tried hacking env.sh to use the system unixODBC library instead of the included one, but no luck.
    <br><br>
    So, in short, my question: how do I simply get reports in CMC to connect to a MySQL data source (using ODBC)?
    <br><br>
    Thanks so much! An answer to this question will save my day!
    <br><br>

    Thank you, Efstratios, for the helpful reply!
    So, I followed the directions in the PDF file you attached, and everything went smoothly. However, Iu2019m still not able to connect to ODBC within CMC.
    Hereu2019s what I did:
    <ul style="list-style-type:disc">
    <li>Copied the unixODBC libraries over to &lt;installdir&gt;/bobje/enterprise120/linux_x86/odbc/lib</li>
    <li>Removed MySQL ODBC connector 5.1, installed MySQL ODBC connector 3.51.</li>
    <li>Edited &lt;installdir&gt;/bobje/defaultodbc.ini, added my DSN and MySQL library info as per the instructions (I have both an odbc.ini, and defaultodbc.ini, identical files, just to be safe)</li>
    <li>Tested the connection using these libraries, this odbc.ini, and isql. Worked just fine</li>
    </ul>
    So, my problem seems to be in getting the CMC to actually <i>use</i> my ODBC setup!
    Any other hints / things I could try?
    When I right-click a report, and go to &ldquo;Database Configuration,&rdquo; which connection options should I use for the report? Iu2019ve tried both &ldquo;Use original database logon information from the report,&rdquo; and &ldquo;Use custom database logon information specified here&rdquo; (using the ODBC option from the drop-down menu). Either way, if I enter in the database, username, password, and then try to run the report (&ldquo;Run Now&rdquo;), I get this message in the History: &ldquo;Failed - Information is needed before this report can be processed.&rdquo;
    Is there another place I could get a more helpful error message? Or is there, perhaps, another way I could test database connectivity from within CMC? I wish there were at least a &ldquo;Test Database Connection&rdquo; optionu2026 :P
    Thanks so much for your help!

  • Crystal Reports Viewer 2008 and parameter fields

    Hello,
    I saw this product on the main Crystal Reports site this afternoon and decided to download it to try it out.  I have a number of users who would benefit from being able to preview their report results prior to actually running the report.  This seems like the perfect product.  I have a large number of Crystal Reports which were created in Crystal version XI.  I also downloaded the free 30 day version of Crystal Reports 2008 yesterday to see what new features are there.
    While testing Crystal Reports Viewer, I tried to run one of my reports which needs a parameter to run properly (account number).  This type of parameter is needed for probably 98% of this business' reports.
    The problem: Crystal Reports Viewer does not prompt me to input the parameter.  In my actual Crystal Report, I had the box "Save Data with Report' left unchecked, as the account number frequently changes.  However, if that box is left unchecked, Crystal Reports Viewer will give me the error message "No Saved Data.  This report file does not contain saved data and cannot be viewed.  To get data into the report, please open and re-save it in the Crystal Reports designer application with the "Save Data with Report" option selected."
    Thinking that possibly it was the version of Crystal Reports in which the report was created (XI), I downloaded the free trial of Crystal 2008 and created a very simple test report with one parameter for account number where the account number is retrieved from our database.  And I am having the same trouble.
    The "Help" section of Crystal Reports Viewer tells me that I can select my parameters in the parameter panel.  I do not see anything in my parameter panel other than the words "Current Data Set Last refreshed: 04/12/10 2:58 PM".  The help tells me that I can "select the parameter directly in this panel by entering a new value", but there is no option to do so.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    thanks,
    Noel

    What I've learned is that I was originally using Crystal Viewer XI and upon opening it I received a message indicating there was an update.
    I ran the update which put me on Crystal Viewer 2008.
    Since then I have not been able to refresh my screen to bring up the parameters.
    See the attached forum for another post concerning this same issue.

  • Difference between Crystal Reports Server 2008 and Business Objects XI R2

    Can anyone please help me know the difference between Crystal Reports Server 2008 and Business Objects XI R2? Both the support guides says that it supports Office 2007. I have a problem in exporting the reports to Excel 2007 .I have downloaded the trial version of Crystal Reports Server 2008 but still unable to view my  complete reports in Excel 2007 through infoview because few of my report's colums are truncated and it still exports in Excel 2003.I have LiveOfficeXIR2_SP4 and Office 2007 installed. Is it so that i have to switch over to Business Objects XI R2 or any other to solve my problem instead of using Crystal Reports Server 2008 or is it the problem with the version of my Live office.Pls help me regarding this..

  • Crystal Reports Server 2008 V1 - fix pack and service pack installation

    I'm currently running Crystal Reports Server 2008 V1 - 12.2.0.290.   I think this is SP2.   I saw both SP3 and FP 3.1 available to download, but am not sure if I need both.   Do I need to install SP3, then install the FP 3.1?   The website doesn't appear to provide clear instructions on this.

    Yes you need to upgrade to SP 3 and then you can Upgrade to FP 3.1.
    The SP usually are major releas of the product when the FP are minor fix of the SP.

  • Cannot install Crystal Reports Server 2008 and Client Tools on same machine

    I am having trouble setting up Crystal Reports Server 2008 with Client Tools on a new Windows 2003 SP 2 machine. The Server 2008 package installs OK (built-in MySQL server, built-in Tomcat 5.5 server). Reports run okay. But my customer wants to run reports that use Salesforce as a data source, so I tried to install Crystal Reports Server 2008 Client Tools (needed  for Salesforce support, apparently). I receive this error:
    'Business Objects product detected: cannot continue with install'. Installation of Client Tools immediately terminates.
    Oddly enough, when I uninstalled Server 2008, the Client Tools installed successfully. Then I tried installing Server 2008, and I got the same error message as with Server 2008. What the heck?
    Any ideas on how I can get Server 2008 and Server 2008 Client Tools to live in harmony on the same machine? We were able to do this with a (otherwise overloaded) Win2K3 server before.
    Thank you in advance for any help.

    Typically the client tools are installed with enterprise by default. If not then you would want to use add/remove in control panel and select them. The installer thinks you are trying to install enterprise on top of itself and thus the error.

  • Crystal Reports VS 2008 "The request could not be submitted for background processing"

    Hi,
    I am going to try to explain this issue the best I can. Please let me know if you need any other information or have any ideas as I have exhausted my resources. We have an ASP.NET application that has highly formatted crystal reports in them that the users can export as PDFs. All reports export without a problem when the application is run off of our desktops. The reports use a sql server authenticated user, executing stored procedures, and each subreport is linked by the main parameter. We are using Visual Studio 2008 version 3.5 SP1 with Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio 2008 on Windows 7 Enterprise SP1. We have designed the reports in Crystal Reports XI Release 2 (11.5.12.1838) and imported them into the ASP.NET application. When trying to export the reports as PDFs from the development or production servers, we get the error message below for some, not all, reports:
    System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800002AD):  Error in File C:\Windows\TEMP\KeyAccountProfile {9FA5C095-77A2-425D-AC6B-8BB66B435336}.rpt: The request could not be submitted for background processing.     at CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.Controllers.ReportSourceClass.Export(ExportOptions pExportOptions, RequestContext pRequestContext)     at CrystalDecisions.ReportSource.EromReportSourceBase.ExportToStream(ExportRequestContext reqContext)
    We have cleared the temp directory on the servers before exporting and are still receiving the error. We have installed Crystal Reports Basic Runtime for Visual Studio (10.5.2.0) on both servers. I have identified the underlying issue to one stored procedure/subreport that is causing the report to fail. The weird thing is, when we change the connection to point to development, the stored procedure/subreport runs fine for the report that generates an error when run from production, and the data is the exact same. I have tried rebuilding the subreport but the error still appears even though it runs fine for other reports.
    I have been through the document below, and othe similar issues in the forums, but still have not found a resolution. I was trying to use the "modules" application put since this is an ASP.NET application I am unsure of which executable I should be looking at.

    OK.. I did some more investigating on this today. I have found out when I move the sub report that generates the error under another sub report, the sub report in question runs without issue. But when I try and move the sub report that produces the error above any other sub report, the error still generates. Can this get any weirder.... FYI.. there is a total of ten sub reports on this report.

    Hi Brad
    I'm not sure that Modules would show us anything in this case, so let's try a few other things:
    1) Make sure you are using SP 1 for Crystal Reports Basic Runtime for Visual Studio:
    Crystal Reports for VS 2005 and VS 2008 Updates & Runtime Downloads
    2) Seeing as this works on dev, this may be some db inconsistency so enabling the report option "Verify on 1st Print" will be a good idea.
    3) Double check the database client and make sure the same client is used on dev and deployed systems. Actually I take back my Modules negative as this is where it may prove useful. Once you have the Modules logs, look at who is loading the crpe32.dll, then look at that process and see the client dlls.
    4) Check the printer driver; see if there are any updates. Try a different printer driver.
    Ten subreports is not too bad, though not that good either as you are loading the report engine with at minimum 11 simultaneous reports (each subreport is considered to be a report). If a subreport is in a details section and the details section returns a 100 records, you are running 100 + 1 reports. This may lead to memory issues, which may lead to the error.
    If I was a betting man, I'd put most of my money on the printer driver (based on your last addition to your post). What ever money I had left would go to some database issue (be it actual data or client related).
