  • Pre-Purchase Question - Deploying Crystal Report to SSRS Report Server

Our company has recently installed a SQL 2005 server for our accounting system.  I had intended going down the path of using SQL Reporting Services as our reporting tool and deploying them to the builtin Report Server.  However, I've been using Crystal Reports for years and find it much more user friendly for a non-programmer to use.  I can actually write a report in Crystal, SSRS took me 3 days to achieve very little, I believe it requires too much SQL reporting knowledge for a beginner.
After spending many hours trawling the net looking for a solution to this problem, I found that Crystal comes as part of Visual Studio.  However, I also believe the version of Visual Studio that comes with SQL2005 is the basic version, and I'd need the Pro version to get the Crystal add on.
To this end, I've downloaded the trial version of Crystal 2008 and installed it.  I find I can write a report in Crystal, and then I can manually add that report to a SSRS project. When I open the Crystal Report within Visual Studio I can see all the correct Crystal toolbars and menus etc, so it would appear that the installation of Crystal for Visual Studio has integrated properly.  I can then deploy that report to the Report server and see the report on the web page.  However clicking to open the report then opens the full Crystal Reports application, instead of just displaying the report in the web page.
I've been unsuccessful in finding a solution to the above deployment problem.  I'm seeking a solution so that my users can just see the report without Crystal itself opening up.  I've been advised that there is a Crystal Report Server that I can purchase, but I don't wish to go to that expense when we already have this functionality built into our SSRS server.
Can you please advise if it's possible to deploy the Crystal report to the SSRS Report Server and then open the report within the web page without opening the full Crystal app, and if so what steps I would need to take to implement this.
If this issue can be resolved, I'll be more than happy to purchase the full Crystal 2008 package and forget SSRS as a bad idea.
Sorry to be so long winded, I wanted to be clear what the issue is.  Any information /advice would be very much appreciated.

    Hello Diane,
I would not know if Crystal Report can be used with SSRS but I know for sure that you can use the embedded Crystal Reports Version with comes with VS 2005 or VS 2008 to create reports and to display them in web and windows application.
We have lots of samples how to do this in our [dev community|https://boc.sdn.sap.com/].
Also, you can use [Crystal Reports 2008|https://boc.sdn.sap.com/developer/library/CR2008SDK] with MS SQL 2005.
Other products like Crystal Reports server can also use MS SQL 2005.
Please see our [supported platforms for CR 2008|http://service.sap.com/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01100035870000712280&_OBJECT=011000358700000675322008E] on windows.
    Hope this helps

  • Crystal Reports To Oracle Conversion

Has anyone gone through a Crystal Reports to Oracle Reports conversion? It appears from my limited review of what is available in Oracle Reports that Crystal offers alot more flexibility in how reports and charts can be formatted and displayed, and it also seems to be easier to retrieve/manipulate data as well. If anyone has any insights as to pros/cons of Oracle Reports vs Crystal, please post them.

  • Conversion from VS2003 to VS2005 Crystal Report View is not compatible

I am trying to migrate an application from VS2003 to VS2005.  I am trying to run it locally, using the localhost method.  I am getting a parser error: The base class includes the field u2018CrystalReportViewer1u2019 but itu2019s type (CrystalDecisionsWeb.CrystalReportViewer) is not compatible with the type of control (CrystalDecisions.Web.CrystalReportViewer)
I have a tried a number of solutions, including removing and then readding Crystal Report references (picking the 10.2.3600 ones).
I also created a websetup project, trying either the windows installer and the merge modules.  Those both gave me the error "The setup requires Internet Information Server 4.0 or higher and Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or higher.  This setup cannot be installe don Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows ME.  Please install Internet Information Server and run this setup again." so I guess I don't understand how localhost works, but I know it's not a true web server.
    I also followed a post to delete the assembly information that was in my web.config, which was      <add assembly="CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine, Version=9.1.5000.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304"/><add assembly="CrystalDecisions.ReportSource, Version=9.1.5000.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304"/><add assembly="CrystalDecisions.Shared, Version=9.1.5000.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304"/><add assembly="CrystalDecisions.Web, Version=9.1.5000.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304"/>
and expected it to be readded when I re-added my references and rebuilt but there is now just an empty <assemblies></assemblies> tag.
Note that I have VS2003, VS2005 and VS2008 all installed on my computer as we have application in various stages of conversions.  I think I just downloaded SP1 for Crystal Reports for VS2005 but it doesn't specify when I do Help-About in VS so maybe I didn't.
I have spent so many countless hours and only just found this forum buried under the rather confusing SAP website.
Thank you SO much for any help,
    Penny

removing all of the references and adding the 10.2 references is a good start.  the problem is most likely that you still have a 9.1.5000 reference to CrystalDecisions.Web in the HTML source of your web form with a viewer control on it.  Easiest way to upgrade that is to delete the viewer control and drag a new one on from the toolbox.  the drag and drop of the viewer control is what will populate your "add assembly" tags.

  • Exsisting Crystal Reports conversion to Business Objects reports

    hi,
can existing crystal reports can be converted to Business Objects reports ( Adhoc, webi, deski types ).
If yes, what versions of CR can be converted to BOBJ reports and what versions could not be.
Where woud I go to get the information and procedure to get this done.
Your help is deeply appreicated. Thanks.

    Hi Venkat,
Unfortunately there is no direct method or tool which can convert the existing Crystal reports to WEBI or DESKI. The best way to go about converting the reports would be to re-create the reports in the required reporting tool.
All these three reporting softwares are different in working and are designed to suit different reporting needs. So based on the requirements, you can select the tool which best suits your requirement.
I hope this helps in answering your question.

  • Dunning Letter as Crystal Report: What tables? (SAP B1 9.0)

    Dear Experts,
I am being asked to revise the Dunning Letters for our clients.  The existing PLDs for each Dunning Letter shows most data fields as system variables.  The existing Crystal Report for Dunning Letter 1 is a conversion from the PLD and doesn't show table information for most of the report's main items.  There are tables in the report but they are standard ones (OADM, OADP, OCRD, OHEM, OSLP).  It also includes a "table" called "PLD__ITEMS" which has all the PLD system variables and no B1 table or field/column information.
As I'm just now starting to work with dunning letters, I see that I can't even run this report in Crystal.  The PLD__Items datasource prompts me for a file path and class name.  Any ideas what one enters here to run the report outside of B1 (from the Crystal report designer)?
The main focus of my question is: Has anyone created a Crystal Report to replicate the Dunning Letter and if so, what tables are involved and how are they connected?  If I can create a Dunning Letter entirely in Crystal, I can replicate it across all clients and get the correct fields/columns of data the clients want.  The inclusion of the PLD__Items apparently limits my ability to test the results.  I would prefer to avoid the PLD limitations.
    Thanks for any assistance.

Thank you Nagarajan.  I have a dunning letter created in Crystal Reports for our client.  It is fairly limited in scope, it just has the customer name and address, invoice numbers and dates, amounts due and the text they wanted in it.
I can import it into B1 9.0 and set it as the default for Dunning Letter #1 and it runs, but unlike other formats where there is a DocEntry and/or ObjectID and a ?DocKey@ or ?ObjectId@ parameter, how do I limit the report to just one customer?  Typical document layouts run for the document that's on the screen.  In the dunning process, the report runs once for every customer when the Dunning Letter Method is set to "One Letter per BP".  I have to limit the report to one customer at a time.  Right now, each dunning letter based on the Crystal report is identical and it contains all the data for every customer.
So, does anyone have any ideas for what selection criteria needs to be included in the Crystal report to have it select just one customer from the dunning wizard tables?  Thanks.
    Michael
Edit: I created a ?WizardID@ parameter and a ?CardCode@ parameter to limit the report to a single dunning wizard event and a single customer.  While it works fine in Crystal itself, it doesn't work in B1 at all.  I had thought that by limiting the report in this way, it would only create dunning letters for a single customer.

  • Migrating from Crystal Reports Charts using TopN and "Other" to Reporting Services

I am currently migrating several Crystal Reports that have charts.  The chart series is set to use the TopN values in a count, and combine the rest of the series into one series titled "Other".  I see how to filter the chart using TopN, however I need to still show the rest of the data grouped as "Other".  I think the solution I need is to create a group expression that uses some sort of IIF function to create the "Other" group, but I haven't found a function that I can use to get the results I need.  Any ideas?
    Scott

We were looking at report deployment options and evaluating SSRS vs Crystal Report Server.  There were several reasons we decided to go with SSRS:
    Cascading Parameters
Ability to use multiple data sets in one report
SSRS seemed more user-friendly than CRS
There were a few other considerations I can remember now, but the final reason was price.  My company already had the licenses for SQL Server.  However, even if that was not a consideration I still would have gone with SSRS.
    Hope this info helps.

There is no conversion tool between these two reports.  You have to create them from scratch.

  • Crystal Reports - 64bit when Previous Reports were 32bit

    Hi,
I have a 64bit question.  To take a step back, I was using Visual Studio 2008 on a 32 bit Windows O/S.  I was using the Crystal Reports that came with Visual Studio 2008 (I think that was just an option that you could install from the VS ISO).
Now, I'm setting up a new environment: Windows 7 Pro (x64) with Visual Studio 2013.
I grabbed CRforVS_13_0_9.exe - as it was just released.  And I installed Crystal Reports.  Toward the end of the install I got a dialog that said something of the effect: "Hey, we detected that you are on a 64bit O/S - do you want to install 64 bit"?  (I wish I had the exact message now).  So I installed, what I thought was that too (in addition to the 32 bit - as it didn't ask me about 64bit until it had already spent a few minutes installing "stuff").
In Control Panel I now see:
SAP Crystal Reports runtime engine for .NET Framework (64-bit)
SAP Crystal Reports, version for Microsoft Visual Stuido
(also, of note, my .NET Framework is 4.5.1)
As I mentioned, I have a ton of existing 32bit Crystal Reports Projects that I need to convert from VS2008 to VS2013.  Microsoft runs a wizard to convert the projects, and you guys also had some Wizard to convert the projects from the older version of Crystal to this new one.  Being that I'm on a 64bit O/S now, and I have 64 bit Crystal installed, what exactly is happening on this conversion?  Is it trying to take that 32 bit project and convert it to a 64bit version?  Should I have installed the 64 bit Crystal when it asked me towards the end?
I'm trying to figure out what that all means.  Also, after taking a simple existing report, and converting it, and making sure it built - I ran it, and all I get at runtime is a "value cannot be null. parameter name: inputstring" message (fyi, this is through the web, not winforms).  I have no idea what inputstring they are referring to, especially since these reports worked in the older environment.
    Thank you.

    Hi William,
CR for VS is both 32 and 64 bit runtime now, separate installs. For your DEV PC you install both because you can select either when you compile for a Windows Desktop app or when you set your IIS App Server to run in 64 bit mode.
Short story is VS is a 32 bit app, CR for integration into VS is also running in 32 bit mode, in the VS IDE. For Web app's you set the App pool and distribute the CR runtime to match your app pool setting.
For Desktop app's you set the Project Properties to run in x86 or x64 mode. You have to be specific or the OS and MSIExec will determine what Redist package to use.
For IIS, just set the App Pool to 32 bit mode - True for 32 bit and false for 64 bit.
Remember also, if youa re going to use 64 app pool all of the dependencies must also support 64 applications/app pools, DB clients and Printers are the biggest dependencies.

  • Error: 'bobj' is undefined - crystal report for VS2013 - please help ASAP

Currently we are trying to migrate from VS2008 to VS2013 and we installed Microsoft Visual Studio Ultimate 2013 on a windows 7 laptop. All our crystal report programs are migrated to VS2013. I downloaded Crystal report Support Pack 10 (v. 13.0.10.1385) executable version and installed it. Then opened our old project (from vs2008) in VS2013 and it went through the conversion process. Later I opened each .rpt file and saved in VS2013 so that the crystal report files will be saved in the new format.
I am getting the Error: 'bobj' is undefined when I try to run the report. Am I using the correct service pack 10, or should I use service pack 9. I have read through all the posts related to this error in earlier version of VS. Is there any correct fixes for VS2013?
This is urgent, I am stuck with this error. please help??? Thank you.

    MAILS--Dear Mohit,
    Thanks for the patience.
We have received the below update from the Licensing Team.
You received your permanent key in respect of these licenses - the key is  for Crystal Reports Server XI.
You did not purchase these licenses for Crystal Reports Server, but purchased it for Crystal Reports and a 5-named user license for Crystal Reports was included as a special offer.  The software included was version XIR2, but you elected to use version XI instead and received key .
You would need to enroll the licenses in maintenance if you want to upgrade them.

    Ajit,
By design, the product is not able to be installed under the superuser account.
    1.  Create a new user and specify a home directory for the user without a quota set.
    2.  Copy or move the installation files to a directory that the new user can read.  I suggest you move the installation files directly into the new user's home directory.
    3.  Logon as the new user (or su - newuser)
    4.  run the installation shell script using that new user's account.
NOTE:  Ensure the system meets the requirements from the supported platforms documents.

  • Error during import of business object BOREPMA (crystal reports)

    Dear Colleagues,
we have a problem with importing of crystal reports into productive system,
export works fine - I get .car files, but import finished with error : "Error occurred in data conversion".
We could not find any reason for this error..... may be someone had same issue in the past?
How can I check what happens in background during import?
Thank you very much for response

    Hi Nick,
our problem is following: we changed *existing crystal report* on development workstation, and trying to import to q-workstation, as it was not possible, we made changes on q-workstation and trying to import to productive-workstation. We don't have crystal report designer on productive workstation and it is a reason why we can not create new report with same name as you suggested (on productive workstation).
In general, how should crystal reports be transferred between different systems (development, test,, productive) if you have crystal report designer only on development system? We think the export-import function can do this, but there is a data conversion error.... OSS message is created since 9 month, we don't get really solution from SAP...
Did you had the same problem or you have crystal report designer on productive workstation and can change coding there?
    Thank you very much
    Best rehgards

  • "Date / Date Time" type parameters in crystal reports 2008

i am using parameters in crystal report to select records. one of the parameters is "From Date" of type Date Time.
i mapped this parameter to a field "DateIn" of type smalldatetime in my sql table.
Now, when i open the report it asks for "From Date" but b y default it sets the time to current time so i have to change it to 00:00:00 manually. i want it to show 00:00:00 by default. which means i don't want time here.
For this if i select the datatype of parameter "From Date" as Date only then i am not able to map it to the "DateIn" field of the sql table.
Please help me out of this.

    this is working.
i found another way, i changed the datatype of parameter to Date and click ok and everything was good, it doesn't require any conversion to date time.
