Crystal Reports XI Pro About 25% of DLL File attributes changed on install

Post Author: sakelly
CA Forum: Deployment
I am having problems preparing an installation of Crystal Reports XI Pro in a Sanctuary Application Controlled environment where the unique file hashes of DLLs and EXEs need to be recorded and pre-authorised before they can execute.  This is because when Crystal Reports XI Pro installs it changes the content of a large number of dlls (for examples chartui.dll and CEReportSource.dll) which all have new file create and modify dates.  Hence the file hashes of a previous installation which are authorised for use are different and the application fails to run.Are these changes necessary?  It is quite rare to see any application change files this way (sometimes except for licensing reasons).Is there anyway of customising the install to stop the files from changing on install?Will it be safe to overwrite files that are installed with previously installed files (which have been authorised?)  I've done some basic testing and it appears ok but a lot of these files are only accessed when producing reports.Thanks,Shaun KellyFurther details on Sanctuary product http://www.lumension.com/Sanctuary_AC_Endpoint_Security.jsp?rpMenuId=118466

The closest to a solution I came up with was to try installing Crystal Reports XI from the cds. When the error occurs click to ignore the error and proceed with the install. After the install is finished, the installer will check for updates which gives a link to Crystal Reports XI Release 2 Service pack 4. This is a complete install file of around 1.7 GB in size. Using this install removes the old Crystal Reports XI Release 1 which is where this issue springs from, and installs Release 2 with no errors. Dll versions will change from 11 to 11_5 and the Crystal Viewer will have updated features, like their calendar no longer loads externally within a small internet explorer window, but rather it loads an internal calendar control. After you have installed the updated install file that is the Release 2 version, you can go to this link and install the Service Pack 5 update that Business Objects came out with. • Crystal Reports 11 Pro

    Fresh install of Crystal Reports 11 pro.  I have download CR R2 SP4 full, but when I try to install I get errors:  "CRC failed in win32\CrstalReports.cab
    The file "???" header is corrupt".  I have re-downloading a couple of times already.  I don't know if this is the correct service packs or do I need to download R2 SP1-3 before SP4?

    Hi Fong,
    You can install the Crystal Reports XI Prof. After that if you to want to upgrade CR XI to CR XI R2 SP2, you can install the Service Pack 2 - Full build  - ZIP - 1.03 GB - released April 2007, from the link provided below and use your existing keycode.
    http://resources.businessobjects.com/support/additional_downloads/service_packs/crystal_reports_en.asp#CRXIR2
    After installation of SP2 for CR XI R2 is done, you can then install the SP3 and SP4 from the same link provided above.

  • Total No of pages different in report printed using Crystal Report XI R2 vs SAP Crystal Reports, developer version for Microsoft Visual Studio (File Version 13.8)

    Currently in our application, we are using Crystal Report XI R2 for generating the reports. We are in the process of upgrading the Crystal Report to SAP Crystal Reports, developer version for Microsoft Visual Studio (File Version 13.8). I updated that on my machine and all the reports work fine. I didn't have to modify any of the reports.
    However when comparing the reports, we found that there are few reports on which the total no. of pages differ from the report displayed using Crystal Report XI R2 vs SAP Crystal Reports, developer version for Microsoft Visual Studio (File Version 13.8). Comparing the reports, it looks all the data that were fit on one page earlier with version XI R2 doesn't fit on the same page with version 13.8, thereby increasing the page counts.
    The fonts, page margins everything set on report itself. Nothing being set in the code.
    Both the application is using the same report that is pulling the data from the same database. Our application is a web application.
    Any suggestion, why this is happening.
    Thanks.
    Sanjay

    I am not sure what is being compared here?
    CRXI R2 designer to CRVS?
    CR XI R2 in some version of .NET to CRVS?
    CR XI R2 using RDC SDK to CRVS?
    Also, is this happening on your development computer or after you deploy?
    If you compare the the "Page setup" options dialog between reports that work and those that do not work, do you see any difference?
    Is this a web or a win app?
    Are you seeing the same issue when viewing and exporting - say export to PDF?
    What is the printer driver used and it's version?

  • Crystal Reports XI String [255] limit with the File System Data driver...

    I was trying to create a Crystal Reports XI report to return security permissions of files and folders.  I have been able to successfully connect and return data using the File System Data driver as the Data Source; however the String limit on the ACL NT Security Field is 255 characters.  The full string of data to be returned can be much longer than the 255 limit and I cannot find how to manipulate that parameter.
    I am currently on Crystals XI and Crystal XI R2 and have applied the latest service packs but still see the issue.  My Crystal Reports Database DLL for File System data ( crdb_FileSystem.dll ) is at Product Version 11.5.10.1263.
    Is it possible to change string limits when using the File System Data driver as the Data Source?  If so, how can that be accomplished.  If not, is there another method to retrieve information with the Windows File System Data being the Data Source?  Meaning, could I reach my end game objective of reporting on the Windows ACL's with Crystal through another method?

    Hello,
    This is a known issue. Early versions you could not create folder structures longer than 255 characters. With the updates to the various OS's this is now possible but CR did not allocate the same space required.
    It's been tracked as an enhancement - ADAPT01174519 but set for a future release.
    There are likely other ways of getting the info and then putting it into an Excel file format and using that as the data source.
    I did a Google search and found this option: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/16772-45-display-explorer-folders-tree-structure-export-excel
    There are tools out there to do this kind of thing....
    Thank you
    Don
    Note the reference to msls.exe appears to be a trojan: http://www.greatis.com/appdata/d/m/msls.exe.htm so don't install it.

  • When Exporting a Crystal Report to Excel format all of the dates get changed when viewed on Mac version of Excel

    We're using Crystal Reports 10 and when we export a report from the Crystal Viewer using either the MS Excel 97-2000 option or the MS Excel 97-2000 (Data Only) option, the date columns on the report appear as expected on a PC version of Excel, however, most of the users at our company use Macs so when they open the same report on the Mac version of Excel all of the dates show up as 2011 or 2012 dates eventhough they are suppose to be 2008 dates. We've tried to just open the report after the export process and then do a "Save As" but get the same result. The date columns all appear to be formatted as Date. The dates on the Crystal Viewer appear as expected when viewed on a Mac. The users are running Excel for Mac OS-X Service Release 1.0. Any idea why this may be happening and is there a solution to this problem? Thanks!

    To clarify, are you currently using the Mac version of Crystal Reports Viewer 2008 which you downloaded from here?: http://www.sap.com/solutions/sapbusinessobjects/sme/reporting/viewer/index.epx

  • Using Crystal Reports as the default for opening .rpt files

    Hi all,
    I know this is a simple question with a simple answer, but I'm baffled, so here goes. I'm using Crystal Reports 2008 and I have the Crystal Report Viewer installed on my computer. I want to open .rpt files with Crystal Reports 2008 as the default application, not Crystal Report Viewer.
    When I right-click the .rpt file I have three options, Crystal Report Viewer 2008, Microsoft Visual Studio Version Selector, and Choose Program. When I select Choose Program, then click the Browse button, Crystal Reports is not available as one of the programs to choose.
    When I look at the programs available via the Control Panel, I see Crystal Reports 2008, but I'm not able to select it as the default for opening .rpt files. I'm assuming the program file is in my Program Files folder somewhere in the Business Objects folder, but I'm not sure which file I need to set Crystal as the default program. Can someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

    C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Crystal Reports 12

  • Dll file is missing on installing the app-v 5.0 sequenced application

    HI All,
    I have sequenced a application using AppV 5.0 Sequencer. During sequencing the application is fine, I gave the PVAD as C:\Program Files (x86).
    After installation of the sequenced application, on launching the shorcut it throws error that
     "The program cannot start because PBVM100.dll file is missing from your computer. Try re-installing the application".
    I searched for that dll file, the weird thing is the dll file is present in the ProgramFiles(x86), but still i dont why the application was throwing such an error.
    If I install the source it is fine, but if I install the sequenced application it throws error.
    I even tried connection groups through SCCM 2012, it is still throwing the same error.
    I am out of ideas. Can anyone help me on this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Cody. I created a sequenced
    Actuate 7 eSpreadsheet Designer 10.0.2 with Appv-5 Sp2. I published the package using the Powershell commands, but When I tested the app in this test machine the app never openned. The process eSpreadSheet.exe cosumed the 99% of the CPU and never
    open the app. I performed a Devirtualization in another machine and it looks work properly, So I think it's a virtualization problem. Do you have any idea how to fix this?
    Note: I created another sequence including all the DLLS detected in SystemX86 in the same directory where the exe file resides for this application C:\Program Files\Actuate7 as you suggested in the last entry but I'm still having the same problem.

    If it is your default location, please find out the correct path.
    2. Rename "rasauditingw.dll" manually in this path. For example change the name to "rasauditingw.dll.bak"
    Then please try again with the report.

  • Crystal report 13.0.2 document.ExportToStream html40 file not found issue

    when export to html, it seems like the html file is exported suessfully but when it is reading the file back, it said the file is not found. but by opening up the temp folder, the file is there but with the .html extension instead of the reported missing file with the .htm extension. bug?

    hi Don,
    here's the code used:
    var stream = document.ExportToStream(ExportFormatType.HTML40);
    that's where the exception is thrown. with reflector, the code boil down to this:
    HTMLFormatOptions htmlFormatOptions = new HTMLFormatOptions();
          htmlFormatOptions.HTMLBaseFolderName = (string) null;
          StringBuilder stringBuilder = new StringBuilder();
          stringBuilder.Append("cr_export_");
          stringBuilder.Append(Guid.NewGuid().ToString());
          stringBuilder.Append(".htm");
          string path = Path.Combine(Path.GetTempPath(), ((object) stringBuilder).ToString());
          htmlFormatOptions.HTMLFileName = path;
          htmlFormatOptions.HTMLEnableSeparatedPages = false;
          reqContext.ExportInfo.ExportFormatOptions = (ExportFormatOptions) htmlFormatOptions;
          HTMLExporter htmlExporter = new HTMLExporter(this, reqContext);
          htmlExporter.Export();
          FileStream fileStream = new FileStream(path, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read, FileShare.None);
          try
            MemoryStream memoryStream = new MemoryStream();
            try
              byte[] buffer = new byte[4096];
              int count;
              while ((count = fileStream.Read(buffer, 0, 4096)) > 0)
                memoryStream.Write(buffer, 0, count);
              if (memoryStream != null && memoryStream.Length > 0L)
                return (Stream) memoryStream;
            catch
              memoryStream.Close();
          finally
            if (fileStream != null)
              fileStream.Close();
            htmlExporter.RemoveTempFiles();
    notice the line
    htmlExporter.Export(), think that's where it generate the whatever.html page, but notice the path building logic, it use .htm but not .html.
    is it not a bug? I open up the temp folder and see the .html file but not the .htm file.

    If you're on Vista, then try running Extension Manager as
    Administrator. Right Click on the Extension Manager and select Run
    as Administrator. And it may be that you might need to be logged
    into your OS as the Administrator user.
