CrystalDecisions.Shared.SharedUtils threw an exception

So, I was having an issue similar to the thread at The type initializer for 'CrystalDecisions.Shared.SharedUtils' threw an exc
Here is what i am doing currently:
DSN connection to a source via
Dim conn As New OdbcConnection("DSN=lalConnect")
and then
input = getfile()
While (Not (input.Contains(".rpt")))
         MessageBox.Show(input & " is NOT a .rpt file")
         input = getfile()
End While
ReportViewer.CrystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = input.ToString
I set the compiler to be for any CPU type (x86 || x64)
My error throws in the last line of the above code and would show message "An Error Occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is: The type initializer for 'CrystalDecisions.Shared.SharedUtils' threw an exceptiion."
I wasnt quite sure as to why this was happening, and as a side question, i wasnt sure how to connect my DSN connection to the report so it can properly pull information. could be a reason why it is throwing this error..?
Thanks everyone.
P.S.- If you need more information, i can post it.

I'd suggest looking at a few resources and sample apps.
Sample apps:
https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BOBJ/CrystalReportsfor.NETSDK+Samples
I'd suggest vbnet_win_dbengine to see info re. database logon. Also search these forums and use the search box at the top right of this web page. Lots of info on database logons.  Vbnet_win_simplepreviewreport is a good example of loading a report.
Also, see the following;

    Make sure you have read / write permissions on the win     emp dir.
    Use [Process Monitor|http://technet.microsoft.com/en-ca/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx] to trace through the loads and look for "Access Denied". Also, look for the rpt file(s), see what is happening with them.
    Finally, search these forums, lot of info on the error. And search the kbase:

  • The type initializer for 'Event.ReportDocument' threw an exception

    I know that I asked this question last week, but I cannot access that account anymore, and this issue that I'm having hasn't been fixed as of yet.
    Situaiton:
    Crystal Reports web app previously built using VS.NET 2003 (.NET 1.1), was upgraded to .NET 2.0 with Visual Studio 2005.  Built, and works perfect on local machine.
    Deployed application to remote Windows 2003 SP1 server, with .NET 2.0 SP1, Crystal Reports for .NET framework 2.0, and Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable installed.
    When the application is run, I receive the following error when trying to build my report:
    The type initializer for 'CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument' threw an exception.
    I've tried to install a Merge Module package, but each time I do, I get about 19 .dll's that can't/won't register.  Also, these dll's all point to a drive that's different from C:/.
    Seriously confused, and a little agitated.  I've torqued the SysAdmin's as well due to so many restarts on the server.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    The fact that things are not registering is likely the cause of this issue.  They may not be installing for a few reasons.  Not enough permissions and missing dependancies are the main two you want to look at.
    Try running a utility called [process monitor |http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx] , this will allow you to monitor all registry and file access during the install to see if you are getting an access denied somewher.
    To detect dependancies, try running [Dependency Walker|http://dependencywalker.com/] on the Dlls that are not registering.

  • Error occurred in deployment step 'Activate Features': The type initializer for ' 'threw an exception

    Hi,
    I have develeoped custom timer job using vs 2010 to deploy in sharepoint server.
    While I right click on solution explorer and click on deploy then system throws an error "Error occurred in deployment step 'Activate Features': The type initializer for 'TestTimerJob.TestTimerJob' threw an exception."
    Please suggest.
    Thanks.

    Have you tried to set break point on feature activate? If not then set break point on feature activate and try to debug your code line by line.
    See this mSDN article to debug timer job:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff798310.aspx
    http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/70866/Debugging-Custom-SharePoint-Timer-Jobs
    Also make sure that:
    1. Once you deploy the time job, you need to reset the IIS
    2. restart the window timer service from services.msc

  • The type initializer for 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection' threw an exception. InnerException: Requested registry access is not allowed.

    I have read some of the other posts for people that got this error, but none seem to apply to me.
    My program has been working for weeks.  I made some minor changes, and started getting the error (full details below).
    I did a TFS "undo pending changes" and still getting the same error, even after logging off.  The one odd thing is that I did change my Windows password this week. The connection string is using a SQL user id and password that has no issues.
    I'm an Admin own my own box (running WIn XP SP3).  I even tried "Run as Admin" on Visual Studio.
    I'm doing a Debug-Start, running a Console-Test-Program that calls a WCF service, which on local machine is hosted by "ASP.NET Development Server".
    We have two other developers, one has the same problem, one does not.  In theory, we have all done "get latest" and are running the same code.
    The SQL Connection is related to a trace database; we are using this library http://ukadcdiagnostics.codeplex.com which has worked fine for months.
    When I do "Start Run" in Visual Studio, I get this error:
    {"The type initializer for 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection' threw an exception. "}
    with InnerException: {"The type initializer for 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnectionFactory' threw an exception."}
    and it has InnerException: {"Requested registry access is not allowed. "}

    I think I found it... this is sure a strange error for what is really happening.
    Apparently it had happened to me before, and fortuantely, I actually added the following comment:
                // Above is related to the WCFLOG SQL Diagnostics Trace
                // If you get error here an inner exception "requested registry access is not allowed"
                // inside exception "type initializer for System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection"
                // then make sure you have impersonation enabled in your client.
                // See AdminConsole web.config or FRB.EC.AdminService.ConsoleTester.app.config for examples
    Now I think I will do a try catch and spit out the same text.
    Still testing to assure that this really was the issue.
          <endpointBehaviors>
            <behavior name="FRB.AllowImpersonate ">
              <clientCredentials>
                <windows allowedImpersonationLevel="Impersonation"/>
              </clientCredentials>
            </behavior>
          </endpointBehaviors>
    The line below in BOLD below is what somehow seemed to disappear from my app.config - probably due to a TFS human error - still checking that also:
            <client>
                  <endpoint address="http://localhost:4998/AdminService.svc"
                                  behaviorConfiguration="FRB.AllowImpersonate"
                                  binding="wsHttpBinding"
                                  bindingConfiguration="WSHttpBinding_IAdminService"
                                 contract="svcRef.IAdminService"
                            name="WSHttpBinding_IAdminService">
                        <identity>
                              <dns value="localhost" />
                        </identity>
                  </endpoint>
            </client>
    Here's how I "idiot-proofed" this error for now, to give an error that actually at least points to a solution:
            public SqlDataAccessCommand(string connectionString, string commandText, CommandType commandType)
                try
                    _connection = new SqlConnection(connectionString);
                    // See AdminConsole web.config or FRB.EC.AdminService.ConsoleTester.app.config for examples
                catch (Exception ex)
                    if (ex.ToString().Contains("The type initializer for"))
                    throw new System.ApplicationException(@"
                    Your client app <endpoint> must be cofigured have a
                  'behaviorConfiguration' attribute like this:
                    behaviorConfiguration='FRB.AllowImpersonate'
                   that points back to a behavior that has this syntax:
              <behavior name='FRB.AllowImpersonate'>

              </behavior>
              ", ex);
                   else
                        throw ex;
                _command = _connection.CreateCommand();
                _command.CommandText = commandText;
                _command.CommandType = commandType;
                // TODO _command.CommandTimeout = ;

  • When deleting the signature using Acrobat 9.0 -server threws an exception error displays

    Hi Everyone,
    I have built an application using VC++ ,in my application i try to sign a document using Acrobat 9.0 ,it gets properly signed and when i try to remove the signature it throws an exception that " Server threws an exception" ,the same code if executed in Acrobat in 7.0 is properly working.
    The code is as below
    DISPID dispid2;
    OLECHAR *methodName2 = { L"removeField" };
    dispparam1.cArgs = 1;
    dispparam1.rgvarg = new VARIANT[ dispparam1.cArgs ];
    dispparam1.rgvarg[ 0 ].vt = VT_BSTR;
    dispparam1.rgvarg[ 0 ].bstrVal = varResult.bstrVal;
    dispparam1.cNamedArgs = 0;
    dispparam1.rgdispidNamedArgs = NULL;
    hr = jso->Invoke( dispid2, IID_NULL, GetUserDefaultLCID(),
    DISPATCH_METHOD, &dispparam1, NULL, NULL, NULL );
    here after executing this line the hr throws "Server thres an exception"
    What could be the reason please throw ur ideas.
    Regards,
    Nethaji

    While deleting manually using acrobat 9.0 we are able to deleted it. But while deleting the same through code we get the following exception
    hr = jso->Invoke( dispid2, IID_NULL, GetUserDefaultLCID(),
    DISPATCH_METHOD, &dispparam1, NULL, &exceptionInfo,
    &puArgErr );
    ExceptionInfo = "NotAllowedError: Security settings prevent access
    to this property or method."
    puArgErr = 0
    Exception id : 0x80020009
    How to give the permission to invoke this method?

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply.
    As per client's requirement, we shouldn't be using java service for this functionality.
    And as you said, the oracle adapters are not taking anywhere, but guess have no other choice..

    Hi Sam,
        I tried using &Session=false, but it didn't solve the problem. I replaced the HttpPost Action Block with TagQuery. But still have the problems with Scheduler. And also tried with both STA and MTA options in UDS configuration for Threading Model with no success.
    Earlier when we installed and configured UDS 4.0, then also i noticed few strange things, like -->
    I entered the User and Password in UDS Configuration and tried to start. But it didn't and the Log file says Login Failed. Then i went to services.msc and re entered the password there for this uds service and clicked on start. It started. I don't know why the password is not properly stored when i enter the Password in UDS.
    Can any one please help me to understand why the scheduler is failing when connecting to Data Historian. Is there any setting i am missing in the UDS Configuration or in TagQuery?.
    Thanks,
    Gowtham K.

  • Method not found: 'Void CrystalDecisions.Shared.ReportStateInfo.set_DataSou

    We have a VB.NET project which has recently been migrated from Visual Studio 2003 / .NET 1.1 and Crystal Reports 11 to Visual Studio 2010 / .NET 3.5 and Crystal Reports 2008.
    One of the forms uses the crystaldecisions.windows.forms.crystalreportviewer control, and at the point of trying to display a report, pops up the following error since the migration:
    Method not found: 'Void CrystalDecisions.Shared.ReportStateInfo.set_DataSource(System.Data.DataSet)'.
    All other Crystal Reports functionality is working fine.  As far as I can see, the control being used is version 12.0.2000.0 (although 12.0.1100.0 also seems to be available, and suffers from the same problem).  All of the Crystal Reports references in the project point to files in C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Common\4.0\managed and are version 12.0.1100.0.
    Has anyone else encountered this problem?  Are the wrong versions of the control / DLLs being used?  Any advice on how to get this working would be useful!
    Thanks in advance,
    Anthony.

    Sorry, answering my own question!
    I've since discovered the .NET 2.0 DLLs in C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Common\4.0\managed\dotnet2 (i.e. version 12.0.2000.0) - switching the references to them fixed the problem.
    Anthony.

    We get the error in both our dev and production environments when trying to view the "Deleted Items" view in the console (even after using powershell to remove all deleted iterms).  As just noted, interestingly enough we can view, delete, and restore
    deleted items using the corresponding Powershell commands.  It should be noted that neither of our two SCSM 2012 environments has a registered data warehouse server.  Below is a screen shot of the error as well as the associated error text and event
    log errors.
    Any help would be greatly apprecaited!
    Regards,
    JJ

    I checked C:\WINDOWS\Installer\ for "7affd.msi" - there is no such file. Also I checked same folder on Win7-64 machine and Notebook WinXP-Pro - there is no such file. I was able to install Express on both Win7-64 and Notebook, but not on this machine.
    I've tried searching for "7affd.msi" on internet without luck. Also I removed all Visual Studio Express 2010 and used any "Fix-It" utilities to check files and registry. And still have same error.
    How to fix it?

  • The server threw an exception. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80010105 (RPC_E_SERVERFAULT))

    I am getting
    The server threw an exception. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80010105 (RPC_E_SERVERFAULT)) When i try to open any file using Adobe
    Private Template As String = "C:\temp\test.pdf"
    Dim gApp As New AcroApp()
    Dim gPdDoc As New AcroPDDoc()
    Dim gAvDoc As New AcroAVDoc()
    try
    ' open the PDF
    gAvDoc.Open(Template, "") 'This is the line where the exception is thrown
    ' do something
    Catch ex As Exception
    End Try
    Can anyone please help me..Is there anything wrong with the acrobat Installation..

    It's the reinstall that fixed the issue.  Turning off Automatic Updates has nothing to do with it, since when you reinstall after making that change it will reset that preference anyways.
    If for some reason your COM objects are no longer registered with Windows, I would suggest a repair instead of a reinstall.  From Acrobat, choose Help > Repair.

  • SSRS Database Configuration Manager Error - Could not connect to server: The type initializer for 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection' threw an exception

    I'm Getting the "Could not connect to server: The type initializer for 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection' threw an exception" Error on an existing Instance of SSRS that had been working previously (lots of installs/patches since).
    Any time I try to hit the "Test Connection" button on existing connections or create new ones from the SSRS Config Mgr., it throws that error.
    I know the SQL Server connectivity works (I have SSMS installed on there and can cut and paste server Login to connect). The problem is I can't really get any more details on the error...Event Viewer isn't logging anything, I have upped the trace level
    to 4 in the reportingservicesservice.config file, I have even watched it with procmon and nothing obvious pops up.
    Let me know if anyone else has been down this path and what they have tried.

    Hi BillOlive,
    Based on my research, the issue may be related to user access permission. You can refer to the following method to troubleshooting the issue:
    Open C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG folder | right click on the machine.config file | Properties | Security | make sure your domain account has FULL CONTROL permission on this file.
    If above steps still do not work, please backup your machine.config file to somewhere else and replace with the attached one from my Windows Server 2008 environment.
    Alternatively, app.config file also may cause the same issue. There is a similar issue, you can refer to it.

    Hope this helps.
