Do you hava an idea of what's could be the problem? I'm in Tomcat 6 (java 6) using a MS SQL Server 2005. I'm using the changeDataSource method of the JRCHelperSample.java included...
I've also increase the loglevel and there's nothing interesting in the jpe.log file too...
Do you know I could find the javadoc of Crystal Reports for Eclipse?
Thanks,

Do you know I could find the javadoc of Crystal Reports for Eclipse?
This can be found on the Diamond website which is the Business Objects Developer portal: http://boc.sdn.sap.com , in the SDK Library.  The JRC documentation is in the XI Release 2 documents.
If the report isn't changing datasource correctly in the report designer, that issue will propagate down to whatever application you are using to view the report at runtime.  To troubleshoot, start by resolving the issue with the report itself and go from there.

  • Problem with Crystal reports for Eclipse and Postgres-databases

    Hi,
Is there a known problem when using a PostgreSQL-database to create a report with Crystal reports Plugin? When I drag a table, then occurs a error-windows, that the object can't  created.
I have found a workaround for solving the problem. After new installing Eclipse Platform Version: 3.4.1 Build id: M20080911-1700 and Crystal reports Plugin 11.8.6.v1371 with JRE 1.6.0_01 the error message allways occurs, when I select a table from a PostgreSQL database (Version 8.2). After restarting eclipse you see the last selected tables in the field explorer and you can drag the table fields in the report. A repeated choice of the same table causes aliases for the table in the field explorer after restarting eclipse.

    Best Regards
    Arnold

Your issue appears to be a Crystal Reports for Eclipse report designer thing, and not a JRC runtime thing.  The JRC runtime does support Type 4 JDBC drivers, but all modern PostgreSQL drivers are Type 4.
The current report designer is more restrictive than the JRC runtime - and PostgreSQL, being not on the supported platforms list, has never been tested with the embedded designer.
Unless there's anybody out there with experience with PostgreSQL and CR4E designer, who would be willing to share their experiences.
    Sincerely,
    Ted Ueda

The preview of the main report is running in CR2008.

When I start this main report with a jsp I get the same error:
    java.lang.NullPointerException

  • Crystal Reports for Eclipse and CR2008

    SQL-Server 2005
    CR 2008, Ver.12.0.0.683
Crystal Reports for Eclipse Plug-in Details:
all Plug-in-files from Business Objects have the Versions 1.0.4.v1094 or 11.8.0.v20060727 except "CR for Eclipse Dev.Guide": Ver. 1.0.0.v1094
I created a report with CR 2008 and load this report with eclipse. A preview in CR and eclipse is running perfect.
When I bind this report to a jsp I get the error "Es wurde keine Rowsetspalte für das SQL-Ausdrucksfeld "strRefNo" gefunden", in english
    "no rowset-column for sql-statement "strRefNo""
General this kind of SQL-statement is not working. This statement is a function which needs first a value from the database.
When this value is fixed in the statement, the report is running in the jsp otherwise I get the error.
When I delete this statement in eclispe, save this report, redo my delete and save the report again, the report is running with jsp!
May be, there is a version conflict between CR and eclipse.
I have to create the reports in CR2008 but I can not save the report in CR2008 to an older version.
Is there a newer version for eclipse, which works with CR2008? I could not find any other version.
    Do you have other ideas?
    Thanks!
    Jens

    Hi,
Please make sure you have Tomcat 5.5 installed on your machine.
Also JAVA_HOME and Tomcat's CATALINA path are set accordingly in Environment Variables.
After setting these restart machine and Eclipse.
The latest version for crystal report for eclipse isCrystal Report For Eclipse v2.0 SP1

Any idea on what may be missing?

Got the same issue with Eclipse 3.5.  Spent several hours downloading the exact versions of the prereq's, to no avail.  Still amazes me that what takes hours in Eclipse is already included in Visual Studio.  No wonder everyone is ditching Java and moving to .NET.

  • Crystal Reports for Eclipse vs. Crystal Reports Developer

We are developing a Java web application for internal use.  Since we have some people at the company who are familiar with Crystal Reports, we'd like to have them write reports that we can display through our application.  Crystal Reports Server seems like overkill for this project, but the <a href="http://devlibrary.businessobjects.com/BusinessObjectsXIR2/en/devsuite.htm#en/JRC_SDK/">JRC</a> sounded like a good fit.
I have been evaluating <a href="http://www.businessobjects.com/products/reporting/crystalreports/developer/default.asp">Crystal Reports Developer</a> and trying out the <a href="http://support.businessobjects.com/communityCS/FilesAndUpdates/crxi_r2_jrc_web_samples.zip.asp">JRC samples</a>.  The samples don't use the tag library.  Instead, they show how to set session variables and redirect to a viewer JSP which contains a bunch of Java code to use the CrystalReportViewer.
The samples are so much more complex than the code created by Crystal Reports for Eclipse, which simply uses the tag library:
    <%@ taglib uri="/crystal-tags-reportviewer.tld" prefix="crviewer" %>
    <crviewer:viewer reportSourceType="reportingComponent" viewerName="myreport-viewer" reportSourceVar="myreport" isOwnPage="true">
    <crviewer:report reportName="myreport.rpt" />
    </crviewer:viewer>
I assume that I should be able to use the same tag library approach without using Crystal Reports for Eclipse, but I haven't seen any tutorials on it.  I'm trying to understand whether I should purchase Crystal Reports for Eclipse instead of Crystal Reports Developer.
This is the difference, as I understand it:
Crystal Reports Developer gives you the stand-alone Crystal Reports Designer and the right to run the JRC on an internal server.  It costs <a href="http://store.businessobjects.com/store/bobjects/DisplayProductDetailsPage/productID.40434600">$595</a>.
Crystal Reports for Eclipse Standard provides a free report designer built into Eclipse.  It also includes the JRC for use on an internal server.
Crystal Reports for Eclipse Professional provides "a more powerful runtime engine" with the right to run it on one internal server.  It costs <a href="http://store.businessobjects.com/store/bobjects/DisplayProductDetailsPage/productID.52068100">$495</a>.  Is this the same JRC provided with Crystal Reports Developer?
If the "powerful" JRC is the same as Crystal Reports Developer's JRC, could I install Crystal Reports for Eclipse Standard to take advantage of the Eclipse integration and the built-in designer, but use the more powerful JRC from Crystal Reports Developer, which would also give me the stand-alone designer?

<p>Hi there,</p><p>     If you are planning on deploying a JRC application then you should definitely be using Crystal Reports for Eclipse for your runtime engine. It is the latest version of the JRC and includes many updates not available in Crystal Reports Developer.</p><p>As for "power" the JRC included in CR Developer is on par with the JRC available in the Basic edition of Crystal Reports for Eclipse. The Professional edition of Crystal Reports for Eclipse provides the most powerful version of the JRC available.</p><p>With the release of Crystal Reports for Eclipse, Business Objects is setting the groundwork for separating Developer needs from the Report Author needs.</p><p>A professional report author will require a professional report design tool. For these users we are recommending that they purchase Crystal Reports Professional.</p><p>The developer, on the other hand, generally needs the SDKs and a toolkit to assist with building applications. We believe that these should be available at no cost to the developer, only charging when the application is deployed (in this case a CR4E Pro license). This is different from the current model with Crystal Reports Developer where we have combined a professional report designer plus the required runtime.</p><p>So, to summarize, definitely use Crystal Reports for Eclipse for your application runtime and have your report authors puchase Crystal Reports Professional. If you need a more powerful engine, access to technical support or plan to deploy on multiple servers then I would recommend purchasing the Crystal Reports for Eclipse Professional license for your development purposes.</p><p>As for some tutorials on creating viewer pages, the integration in Eclipse provides a very simple way of accomplishing this. I would suggest reading the section titled "<strong>Creating a New Viewer Page</strong>" in our Getting Started Guide found at the following URL:</p><p><a href="/node/320"><strong> http://diamond.businessobjects.com/node/320</strong></a></p><p>Let me know if you have some follow-up questions. </p><p>Regards,<br />Sean Johnson (CR4E Product Manager) <br /><strong><br /><a href="http://www.eclipseplugincentral.com/Web_Links-index-req-ratelink-lid-639.html">Rate this plugin @ Eclipse Plugin Central</a></strong>           </p>

    Hi,
Are you talking about the fields coming from the Data Source Explorer?.
If "Yes" then there is no such limits.
Are you able to run the report through the eclipse designer?
    Thanks,

  • Cannot Install Crystal Reports for Eclipse v2.0 on Mac OSX

I've tried to install the Crystal Reports plug-in to my Eclipse environment without any success.  No matter what I try, I get the same error message:
"Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found.
Missing requirement: 1271104370856 0.0.0.1271104370856 requires 'com.businessobjects.crystalreports.integration.eclipse.feature.feature.group [2.0.6.r916]' but it could not be found"
To the best of my knowledge, I've installed all the correct pre-requisites listed on the SAP website.  I've tried every search I can think of and have found nothing that helps.
I'm at my wits end...please help!

Note that the Crystal Reports for Eclipse 2.0 plugin is not supported nor tested on MacOS, regardless of version.
Feedback I've gotten is that the installation fails for the embedded designer components.
The Crystal Reports Java SDK runtime components - the library used to run rpt files on desktop of web apps using Java - is supported and tested on MacOS 10.5
You'll note that the Supported Platform guide for CR4E 2.0 is specific in listing support only for the Runtime.

  • DOWNLOAD CRYSTAL REPORTS FOR ECLIPSE 1.0.8 not compatible with java 1.4

    Hi,
I understand that this plugin requires java 1.5. However, due to my company's existing infrastructure, I have to use java 1.4 for my web applications.
May I know if there is a older version of the CRYSTAL REPORTS FOR ECLIPSE compatible with java 1.4 (manual installation) available for download ?
    Thanks in advance.

You can download Java Runtime version 11.8.8.x [here|http://downloads.businessobjects.com/akdlm/crystalreportsforeclipse/1_0/crystalreports-javasdk-11.8.8.zip]
It supported JDK 1.4 for a few different web application server deployment. Check platform.txt in it. However this is very old version of CR runtime and can cause other issues in crystal reports rendering etc. in which case the only solution would be to get the latest CRJ runtime.

Looks like the installation does not work for Eclipse 64 bit version, encountered this generic error:
-- Cannot complete the install because some dependencies are not satisfiable
com.businessobjects.crystalreports.integration.eclipse.feature.feature.group [2.0.12.r1476] cannot be installed in this environment because its filter is not applicable. --
Tried it in several machines with several Eclipse 64 bit versions (including Helios & Indigos), got the same results.
Downloaded the 32 bit version of Eclipse and the installation completed successfully - tried it in a couple of machines (a 32 bit machine & a 64 bit version), both installed without any errors.
Posting my findings to ask if any of you encountered the same problem or is there any workaround to install it for 64 bit Eclipse ?
    Thanks - Joe.

According to the release notes, for the JRCHelperSample to compile, you must set the target runtime for the project.
To do this, either create a project from scratch that uses the Tomcat 5.5 target runtime, or go to the properties menu and ensure that the target runtime is set to the application server you will be using.

Sorry, I have to correct myself: today I retried with a brand new Mars/JEE+Java8 and a brand new workspace:
the error is related to missing org.json bundle.
Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found.

    seems like Mars/JEE doesn't contain org.json ... which is quite strange ...

  • Database connection not working in Crystal Reports for Eclipse 2.0

    Hello All,
We have several hunderd reports that were created in CR 8.5.  We are moving to a new Java  environemnt and we are also considering using BIRT.However to save development time and effort we are considering using the CR for Eclipse 2.0. For a proof of concept, we loaded several of our 8.5 reports into Crystal reports XI, saved them, and then loaded them into our CR for eclipse design environment.
These reports were built from the values returned from a store procedure.. When we try to execute the reports from within Eclipse, we get  Error finding JNDI name (xxxx). We have created the appropriate datasource (to Sybase 12.5.4), and the schema is viewable in the db explorer. However when we associate the connection to this datasource, the connection no longer appears in the field explorer and no data is returned upon previewing the report.
The original reports used ODBC to access the database. Is there anyway to easily convert these reports to using the Sybase JDBC datasource? Also in the DB explorer, the SPs are only showing the SP parameters, not the return values, so we are unable to easily drag the return fields onto the report to reset the links.
    Thanks in advance

    Michael,
We had a similar situation but from my reseach the output from the stored procs cannot be viewed in the report designer in Eclipse. So we had to design the reports using the Crystal Reports Devloper application (the stand-alone version, not the Eclipse editor). The reports were designed w/an ODBC datasource. In order to get that working we had to create a JNDI JDBC datasource connection w/the exact same name as the ODBC datasource and that works. For example, the ODBC datasource was named OP01DSDB01.WORLD so we just created a JNDI datasource w/that exact same name (no jdbc/OP01DSDB01.WORLD just OP01DSDB01.WORLD). I'm not sure if there is a workaround for any of this but this was the easiest way to get them working.
I know this isn't the ideal situation, but that was the easiest way to get things working.
