CrystalReports.msi problems

Hi,
Everyday for the last 3 weeks I get a pop up window stating that there is a new patch/update for Crystal Reports XI Release 2. I have downloaded this patch/update but when it installs the following things occur.
A window appears with the following message:
Please wait while Windows configures Crystal Reports XI Release 2.
Then after a minute or so another window appears with the following messages:
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'CrystalReports.msi' in the box below.
I have searched my hard drive for the file CrystalReports.msi and found this file at this location "C:\CRXIR2SP2Patch" and this location "C:\Program Files\Business Objects". After entering these alternate paths I get the following error:
The file 'C:\.......\CrystalReports.msi' is not a valid installation package for the product Crystal Reports XI Release 2. Try to find the installation package 'CrystalReports.msi' in a folder from which you can install Crystal Reports XI Release 2.
I have even put in the original CD that I installed Crystal Reports XI from and pointed to that and it still gives me the same error.
So my question is, how do I fix this?
It is becoming an ever increasing problem because this is occurring when ever I try to install any software. For example, I own some software to run furnace surveys with and I can't install it because the same errors as above appear during the installation of that software. I tried to install software to configure a bar code scanner on my computer today and again I got the same errors as above. So this problem is not just annoying anymore it is actually preventing me from installing any other software.
I am running Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3.
Please help,
~Andy

I got around this problem somehow but I don't remember how. Crystal Reports has been running fine on my computer until today. I booted up my computer and launched Crystal Reports and now I get the same error as before:
I uninstalled CR and reinstalled it and the same thing  is occurring. Why is it so difficult to install this software? The designers of this software package really need to address this issue since it looks like so many people are having this problem.
As of right now I can not do my job which is writing/updating reports for the company I work for. I have spent half of my day trying to troubleshoot this problem again and have not got any actual work done. Now I have to explain to my manager why I'm behind on getting updates for my reports out.
Very upset about this software program.

  • Unable To Install New Version of iTunes (iTunes.msi problem?)

fyi, i also have an iPhone
    error message:
the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package iTunes.msi in the box below
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple\Apple Software Update\
This is as far as I can go in the installation of iTunes, so I am also unable to get the new iPhone firmware update.

When you get this network resource message, you usually need to do an installer file clean up.
Here is a method for removal of iTunes with installer clean up:
    == uninstall with cleanup ==
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete and file or folder called Quicktime.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

I named the partition Snow for guide 1.
You need an install of Leopard for guide 1, with the latest chameleon installed as the boot loader.
    Guide 1:
First, insert the Snow Leopard DVD and go to /Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Installation/ and Open OSInstall.mpkg. When it's finished installing, open OSX86Tools and select Install Kexts.
Install fakesmc.kext from Netkas with OSX86Tools. Now reboot and select Snow in chameleon and boot with cpus=1 -v. It takes a little while to boot, but if it takes more than 10 minutes, it failed.
Onboard ALC888 needed AppleHDA.kext and HDAEnabler.kext for 64 bit. Both are attached to this post.
I have an nVidia GeForce 9500 GT 1gb with qe/cl enabled in Snow Leopard, but not in Leopard.
I used an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 in the guides.
I attached a picture of my Snow Leopard install. If you have any trouble, just post a comment.
UPDATE: 10.6.1 recently came out. You can use Software update to install, then just reboot, and you are running 10.6.1.
UPDATE 2: 10.6.2 is out. Follow these instructions:
First, download the 10.6.2 update from Apple, then launch Kext Helper b7 and drag fakesmc.kext into Kext Helper. Then, upgrade using the downloaded DMG, but before rebooting, click Easy Install in Kext Helper. When it gives the succession window, go back to Installer and click reboot. Now you're running 10.6.2!
EDIT: tadbattery has told me how he updated to 10.6.2. It is a simpler way, which doen't require messing with kexts:
First, backup your kernel in 10.6.1 with OSX86Tools, update using the downloaded delta update, then reboot into a second install (maybe Leopard or Snow Leopard) and use OSX86Tools to restore the kernel to the new 10.6.2 system. Then, reboot into the 10.6.2 installation.
    Guide 2:
Just download Psystars free RebelEFI boot disk. It installs Snow Leopard, but gives an error "Unable to make computer start up from Hard Drive". Just ignore the message, reboot and boot from RebelEFI CD and select Hard Drive. Once you get to the Desktop, you need to install the latest Chameleon, or buy RebelEFI. I modified my com.apple.boot.plist to get QE supported.
UPDATE: I have changed a couple of steps, so it doesn't seem so confusing or need second partitions. There is also a fix for AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext without removing it; Just use fakesmc.kext from Netkas.
EDIT: For those who need them, but can't find AppleHDA.kext and SleepEnabler.kext for Snow Leopard X64, I have attached them to this post.
UPDATE: I recently found out that the kexts from TechnoJunkie are not required. Just use fakesmc, as said in the guide. If you did install them, don't remove them, you will get a kernel panic.
UPDATE: There is a better kext than VoodooHDA, which fixes crackling sound after waking from sleep, and microphone. I have replaced it in the attached file.
UPDATE: I will no longer be updating this guide, as I now have a Dell Studio laptop, and have given my MSI to a friend.

  • Flash 10 msi problems through Group Policy

    Here's the problem:
We've signed up to Adobe to get there official corporate Flash and Shockwave msi's for network distribution.  They have been set in Group Policy and sent down to our machines.  It says its installing and when you check add\remove programs both are installed.  Some flash\shockwave sites are fine others say that flash 10 is not installed 'do we want to update' or we get this message "can't verify publisher.. swflash.cab".  If logged on as an administrator we can run the update and all is fine, this however defeats the purpose of the GP distribution.
When the msi's are run manually on a machine they work perfectly, so the problem exists while being sent through Group Policy.  The clients\PC's are running XP and are fresh builds (there are no older versions of Flash on them).
I've looked online for similar cases, but nothing.  Has anyone else encountered this issue?  or have any ideas why the install will not fully go down?

    Don't worry, I've sorted it.
An ex employee had created a package with flash 8 installing alongside\inside another one (totally unrelated to what should have been going down).  Which meant the flash 10 was getting overwritten.  It's been removed, and everything works fine.
    Bye.

    Dear Don
I have situation where i have a desktop application in VS2010 using CR2010. i make an installer for it, to install on the client machine. now when i run the setup to the client machine, i m getting the almost 20 errors and some of them are listed below.

a lot of more...but from the same directory as  "C:\Program Files\SAP BusinessObjects\Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0\Common\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win32_x86\".
i had got through many of the posts here listed as follows:
Installing CR for VS2010 throws 1904 Exception - fails to register many dll
Crystal Reports for VS2010 Installation issue - Error 1904
but didnt get the answer, because we dont know about the users machine. user just needs to install this windows application using the setup already created using Installshield wizard. The MSI's included in the setup was downloaded from this URL:
    http://downloads.businessobjects.com/akdlm/cr4vs2010/CRforVS_redist_install_32bit_13_0_1.zip
Now wot can i do, so that the user can easily install this software without getting any error.

  • Unable to update Itunes,Itunes 64.MSI problems

Iam unable to update Itunes, I get a message that I need to install I tunes 64.msi how can do that

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if one component won't install normally.

  • Shockwave MSI Problem  and Flash name changes

    Hi
    1) The Shockwave 10 MSI is not suitable for easy
    redeployment. It does not
detect itself correctly when added to an MSI as a nested
    product. This means
that unless I manually detect it
and Flash it causes a 1713 error on installation.
Whilst I know that nested MSIs are not the prefered method of
    redeployment
according to microsofts guidlines. It is the only way to
    achieve such and
allow easy network deployment through Group Policy.
The reason being that you cannot invoke a second MSIExec
    outside of the UI
Sequence and Group Policy Deployments do not have a UI
    Sequence becuase they
    are silent.
I know we could request that the network administrators
    install shockwave
seperately, but our clients are schools and the network techs
    are often not
    very knowledgable about modern networks.
    2) Why have you changed your policy of the naming of flash
    from simply
Flash.ocx with a version number to a new name for every
    single version. This
has broken our detection mechanism and is now leading to 1904
    errors becuase
our installer is trying to register an older version of flash
    (Basically we
use theWindows Installer standard mechanism of signitures to
    detect the
presence of an application and then filter by version) . The
    detection
strategy you describe on your site is fine for use in a web
    browser but does
not seem feasible within the windows installer engine. At
    least not as far
    as I can tell.
Is there a registry entry or some file which is guaranteed to
    both not
change over time and which will show the version installed?
    kind regards
    Stephen Whipp.

    Quintino,
You can programatically open connecitons to Shared Variables.  This allows you to decide at runtime the IP address, lib name and SV name you wish to connect to.  I've attached a vi snippet the demonstrats an Action Engine to handle the connection to a SV named "Parameters".
I normally store the cRIO_Settings in a .INI file that is easy to modify.

  • InstallScript & ISScript.msi problem

I have tried to install the new iTunes numerous times on this horrible operating system (Windows XP Pro) and it keeps giving me the message that the InstallScript needs updating to install the file. I have tried the mainstream solutions for this, such as getting a new/corresponding version of it; however, nothing seems to work. I would like to solve this issue and once and for all buy my iPod Shuffle already!
    Thanks in advance!

I solved the problem by installing an old version of iTunes (6.0.5.20) and then attempted to install the newest version (7.1.5), and it worked!
I can't wait to get a MacBook, because Windows is unbearable.

  • ISScript.MSI Problem

I'm hoping someone can offer some advice. I have tried numerous times to download the updated ITunes/Quicktime software. In each instance I get an error message that indicates the ISScript.MSI file on my computer is outdated.
I have windows XP and have thus gone to Windows to try and downloae this file with no success.
Does anyone have any ideas on how or where I can go to update this file in order to update itunes?
    Thanks!
Dell Dimension 4400; Dell Dimension 2400; and a Gateway M405 Laptop;   Windows XP

I followed your instructions, uninstalling the installshield engine and installed the Driver 11 install. ITunes was updated (Bravo! and thanks for your help with this) but another issue has now surfaced.
After the install was complete, a message popped up indicating a software update was available for the Ipod Mini. I clicked on this and during the install, received an error message.
Now, I can turn on the mini but no menu is available. How might I address this newer issue?

I've downloaded the 9.0.124 version of Adobe Flash Player
(both Active_X & Plugin versions), but am not able to put them

I receive the message "Add operation failed. Unable to extract
deployment information from the package. Run validation on the
package to ensure that the package is correct." I opened the
package in Orca and ran validation on the package. I received some
error messages, but when I run validation on the 9.0.115 version
through Orca, I received the exact same error messages and I have
successfully pushed out the 9.0.115 version through Group

  • Fed up trying to update itunes (missing bonjour.msi problem)

With iOS5, is itunes even necessary? My phone updates by itself now. I'm guessing my iPad will too? Can I just delete itunes from my Win7 computer?

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Install problems with CRXI R2 -   Error 1406

I am stuck on trying to upgrade from CR XI R1 to CR XI R2.
My company has a VB6 application -- very large and will take great effort to port to .net.  I have customers who are now on Windows 7 and complaining some of the reports are very slow.  They run fine on Windows XP.  Because of this, on the advice of SAP and this forum, I am trying to upgrade my development machine and then my customers' systems with CR XI R2, as described in the forum posts on this topic.
On my development system, I installed:
    CRXI R2: http://downloads.businessobjects.com/akdlm/crystalreports/crxir2_sp4_full_bld_0-20008684.exe
    and then:
    Service Pack 6: http://downloads.businessobjects.com/akdlm/crystalreports/CRYSTALREPORTS06_0-20008684.EXE
I ran into the missing CrystalReports.msi problem and followed the advice on this thread: Crystal XI Release 2 attempts to install every time I open our application
After following those instructions and rebooting, I started the install.  I got this error during the install:
Error 1406. Could not write value MyCube to key Products8790BF49490D7C04197D38D49322D0A4Features.  Verify that you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support personnel..
After ignoring the error, I got the same error for several other features during the install.
I subsequently uninstalled all my old versions of Crystal (8.5 and 9.0 as well as the XI version and service pack 6).  I then only installed the XI R2 version and things went great.  But the install of service pack 6 failed again with the 1406 errors.
I am really stuck!  I now have no ability to fix any of my reports on this machine and can't run my reports through the VB6 app.
    Can anyone help me out?
I really appreciate any help you can give me.
    Meryl

    Hello Meryl
Searching the registry for the 8790BF49490D7C04197D38D49322D0A4 guid, gets you to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Features\8790BF49490D7C04197D38D49322D0A4
This is not a Crystal Reports Key. Rather it is a key used by the MS installer, thus the query is most likely best directed to Microsoft. Other than that, see the following re error 1406:

  • Unknown Database Connector Error in CR XI R2 sp6

I'm getting an "Unknown Database Connector Error" when I try to Set Data Source Location. This is effecting all of my reports and is happening on multiple copies of CR XI. I'm trying to connect to MS SQL using an ODBC (RDO) connection. The reports were initially working fine connecting to the datasource and then something changed. The current connection is blank and when I try to create a new connection I get the above error.
I tried updating CR to the latest version (what a pain! kept running into the Missing CrystalReport.msi problem). Finally figured out how to fix that but the updates did not solve my connection problem.
I ran the SQL Connectivity Test app and here are the results:
    SQLDriverConnect Successful
    [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Changed database context to 'I3_IC'.
    [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Changed language setting to us_english.

SQL DBMS Name is : Microsoft SQL Server
SQL DBMS Version is : 10.00.2531
I am running Crystal on a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition system. It's a developement and testing server. I also tried running CR on a Windows XP workstation connection to the same SQL server with the same results.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am totally stumped.

    Hello,
mmmmmm.. From the driver name it's SQL Server 2000 you are using?
Have a look at your PATH statement to see if MS SQL is in there. It should look something like this:
    Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
    (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.
    C:\>path
    PATH=C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\;.....
It may be that your ODBCINI in the registry is corrupted so removing all and adding them back in may help. Use the ODBC Administrator to remove your DSN's, don't modify the registry.
Also create your DSN's using the System tab so all users and processes have access to them.
    Thank you
    Don
