CS-3, Canon i9900, Snow Leopard 10.6.3, dark prints

I had great success printing from CS-3 under Mac OX 10.4 to my Canon i9900.  I profiled both my monitor and printer with the Colormunki device and enjoyed fantastic prints until upgrading to Snow Leopard.  I wasted an untold amount of ink and paper in an attempt to get Snow Leopard to print decently but I can't make that happen.  The Colormunki folk have done what they can to help but that hasn't worked.  I am tempted to upgrade my printer to a Pixma Pro 9000 MKII but don't want to spend $500 if I am going to have the same problem.
Does anyone here have an i9900 and print under 10.6.3 with CS-3?  How have your results been?
Greg

The procedure of using the CAPT folder from a previous version of OS X was not always successful with 10.5, let alone 10.6. For those like you that did find it worked, there were many others that found the workaround did not work for them.
Version 3.05 of CAPT lists the following Canon printers as supported models.
LBP9100Cdn
LBP7200C series
LBP5300
LBP5100
LBP5050 series
LBP3500
LBP3310
LBP3300
LBP3250
LBP3150
LBP3108
LBP3100
LBP3050
LBP3018
LBP3010
LBP3000
You may have more success with trying to get this driver to work with your LPB2900. At least this version has been written for 10.6.
If this new driver does not work with the LPB2900 then another solution would be to have an old Windows XP computer connected to the LBP2900 and then use the following procedure to print to it from the Mac.

  • After update to Snow Leopard, I can no longer print from my Mac Book using my HP D110 but can still print from the web

    Hello -
Earlier this week, I updated my Mac Book to Snow Leopard and am now having printing problems. I have an HP Photosmart D110. I have downloaded and installed the driver update. I have deleted and re-installed the printer. I have run the wireless network test (everything passed). I configured th settings on the HP EPrint website. I have shut down and re-started the computer several times. I checked for software updates.
The printer is *recognized* on the Mac Book, iPhone and the iPad. It shows up under the SysPref menu. I have been able to print coupons from the Coupons.com app using the iPhone and iPad, but I can't print from the computer itself. The printer icon opens and it indicates the document was sent but nothing comes out. I'm not sure what I'm missing?!

Also try powering the printer off for about 10 minutes.

  • Just installed mac osx snow leopard upgrade and connected my printer to it too, and realized I have no sound anymore

Just installed mac osx snow leopard upgade and connected my printer too, and realized I have lost sound!   Can anyone help?

In case I misunderstood, did you mean that the 10.6.3 version of Snow Leopard was the upgrade?  If so you need to update via 10.6.6 to 10.6.8.  These updates can correct minor system upsets.
And ... did you also repair permissions both before and after you upgraded.   You should do this when you progress via 10.6.6 to 10.6.8 too.

  • I got Snow leopard and now I cant print with Canon 4350d

    Canon 4350 printer problem?
I get this message every time I try to print. I can scan and copy but not print. "Cannot communicate with the printer, or the printer is not supported, check the printer connection and add it again. Then, if the print dialog box has a printer info button, acquire the printer information: 10322"
i tried to download the driver but it gives the same message.
    Please help.

The XPS portion of the name is for Windows 7. It's not going to cause a problem, its just an identifier for Windows 7 as the driver is included with that OS.
I have the MF4380dn on my desk and it shows the Printer Info button. So either your MF4350 model does not support this setting or the driver installation was not completed correctly. Since I don't have the same model to check I will suggest you look at removing the driver and installing the latest version, especially if you upgraded to Snow Leopard from Leopard with the UFR2 driver already installed.
To remove the Canon UFR2 driver
Open Print & Fax, select the MF4350 entry and press the minus button to remove the printer
    Open Finder and navigate to
[Mac HD]/Library/Printers/Canon and delete the UFR2 folder
    Still in Finder, navigate to
[Mac HD]/Library/LaunchAgents and delete the file jp.co.canon.UFR2.BG.plist
    Still in Finder, navigate to
[Mac HD]/Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources and delete all the files showing CNTD***Z*2*.ppd.gz
Where *** indicates a character string that represents the printer model, and *2* indicates a character string that represents the corresponding language, most likely US for your region.
The last action is to open Activity Monitor and locate UFR2 Backgrounder. Select it and then select Force Quit.
With all the above steps completed, restart your Mac and then download and install the UFR2 v2.24 driver.

  • Canon LBP5100 & snow leopard

Upgraded to snow leopard and now my canon LBP5100 printer is not working.
It is not listed under the apple driver list as it is a UK spec printer and i can't find any help on the uk canon website.
Does anyone have a fix? Thanks.

I was about to buy a Canon LBP 5100 when I came across murmurings about Mac OS compatibility, so I googled and found myself here. I phoned and also emailed Canon support and got a very rapid email response (full marks for that, at least, Canon), telling me the same as the phone guy told me:
    +Dear Mr. MacArthur,+
    +Thank you for contacting Canon.+
+Please be advised the printer driver for Mac OS X 10.5 should work for Mac OS X 10.6 however we can not guarantee this and unfortunately we have no exact date for when a 10.6 driver would be released therefor I would advise you to check our website regularly.+

It seems the fixes on this thread work for some of you but not others; I don't think I can risk it, unless anyone can assure me it will work. One of the reasons for the upgrade is to get away from all the hassles I've had for the last few years with an expensive but troublesome HP 7110 All-in-One inkjet. Shame, really, as the reviews rate the Canon LBP5100 and the alternative I'm considering (I need duplex) is the Lexmark C544 (which claims 10.6 compatibility out of the box).
    Any comments appreciated.

  • Cannot print Snow Leopard - Windows 7 x64 Shared Printer

I need to configure printer sharing between a 64-bit Win7 Ultimate dektop and a Macbook Pro laptop running OS X Snow Leaopard (10.6). I have followed all of the conventional wisdom I can find on the net without success.

All updates applied to both systems, latest printer drivers on both.

Both systems in the same homegroup on the same subnet. IP addressed assigned via DHCP but preconfigured at the router -- essentially, fixed.

I've tried this with AV and firewalls on and of on both machines; same results
File sharing works in both directions

Win7 configured as follows:
All Print and Document Services Enabled
Printer: Canon Pixma MX700 connected via USB
Share This Printer on for both printer and FAX (it’s a MF printer)
Network discover: on
File & printer sharing: on
Anyone with network access can read/write
Media streaming: off
Enable sharing for devices that use 40- or 56- bit encryption
Password protected sharing: off
Allow windows to manage homegroup connections
Network profile set to Work

Snow Leopard configured as follows:
    System preferences->Print&Fax->Add Printer->Advanced
    Add printer
    Type = Windows
    URL= smb://user:password@workgroup/cptrname/MX700 -or-
    URL = smb://user:password@workgroup/192.168.1.10/MX700
Print using: Chhose a Driver or Printer Model: Camon Pixma MX700
The printer configures successfully and I can queue print jobs from the Mac. It shows up in the appropriate print queue on the Windows machine as Remote Downlevel Document and hangs in Spooling state. The only way to delete the document is to reset the print subsystem on the Mac.
I also tried unchecking “Enable bidirectional printing” under the printer properties on the Mac to no effect.

Your issue is with the Canon driver. It cannot be used on the Mac when you have the Canon inkjet shared by Windows. For these types of connections, you need to use an alternate driver, such as the Gutenprint driver set.
The only problem with Gutenprint is that your MX700 is not listed as a supported printer. So, you could spend hours trying to find which of the other Canon models that are supported by Gutenprint will work to your printer. Or, you could look at purchasing PrintFab.

  • Photoshop CS2 in Mac Snow Leopard: faint, pale colours when printed

I used to use Photoshop CS on my old PPC eMac with OS 10.4.11 (Tiger), and printed succesfully on good quality glossy photo paper using an Epson Stylus Photo R340 printer. I have now upgraded to an Intel Mac mini with OS 10.8.3 (Mountain Lion). I am afraid I cannot afford to buy the latest version of Photoshop, so I have installed Parallels Desktop and, within it, Snow Leopard Server, so that I can run Photoshop CS2.
I have now got the correct driver for my printer and all the printer and paper profiles. Using exactly the same profile and other settings that I used to use with Photoshop CS on my old computer, when I printed a TIFF image, the results were a print with extremely pale, washed-out colours. When I used the 'Preview' feature of the printer software, the colours looked good, but when I printed they were hopeless.
I don't think it is the printer. If I set the Photoshop output to let the printer determine colours, I get quite good results. But when I switch to letting Photoshop determine colours, I get these impossibly pale colours. I have checked through all the preference settings of Photoshop CS2 and cannot find anything that might account for this misbehaviour. I should be most grateful for any help or advice.

Since posting the above, I have made a discovery. I looked up the system requirements of different versions of Photoshop. Here is the relevant part of Adobe's list:
This suggests that CS2 will not run in Snow Leopard (OS 10.6)! But it also suggests that CS will not run in Tiger (10.4), and I used CS succesfully for years in Tiger on my old PPC computer. So what does all this mean? Are these minimum requirements? In that case where can I find the upper limits? Is CS2 supposed to run properly in Snow Leopard?

  • Snow Leopard CS2 - InDesign crashes on print

    Hello!
I am hoping some one can send me in the right direction in figuring this out. I have googled this problem until my fingers are sore and have yet to see anyone with this issue. I have gone through the many many documents about not being able to export to pdf and have followed all of those directions hoping that maybe there was some correlation - still nothing.
So what's happening is we open a standard document create either text or regular box then click file print and get the crash (Problem report from InDesign below)
we can print repeatedly with only a box on the page. sometimes it will allow us to view the print preset dialogue and some times it will almost allow us to create a new print preset.
it gets REALLY buggy when you click the text tool - some times as soon as you click the tool it crashes and sometimes when you click the page. The below Problem report from InDesign was from printing with text on the page.
This is a fresh install and software update to 10.6.5, fresh install of CS2 and I have not added any fonts, this also happened before the OS upgrade. Photoshop and Illustrator seem to work and do not even stutter when printing, This is only happening in InDesign. After trying to read through the badly labeled post on here I saw one almost similar post about a printing error and there was no help offered.
I have read many times that CS2 should not run with snow leopard and have seen just as many post that CS2 does run with snow leopard. If by chance you can please offer ANY advice or support it would be greatly appreciated! We are a fairly small publishing company and this software is our only option.
    Thank you in advance!!!

I can work in CS2 Indesign on my iMac running 10.6.5 with no clichés (so far), but like this thread, InDesign crashes and shuts down when attempting to print.
However, I have no problem making any type of pdf from InDesign, and my PDF's print without any problems. So, for now, I work in InDesign, and when I need to print, I make a PDF of my document and then print it. I know it's a pain, but for now, it's all I can do to keep using CS2.
I realize the solution is updating to a CS package that will run flawlessly with 10.6. (anyone have a few hundred dollars to give to this worthy cause?).
But if anyone out there figures out a way to print from Indesign CS 2 on 10.6, please let me know. My actual needs are minimal, so CS2 does all I really need it to do for now . . . if you don't count that I can't print from it. Ha ha . . . not funny.
This is an update on my progress to resolve my problem (it's now two hours later than the text in this post above). I had a copy of InDesign CS 3 that I never installed. I decided to give it a try so I installed it. It installed with no problems and I updated it using the InDesigns update feature.
I can now print with no problems using the print dialog box from within InDesign. However, my specific print features from my brother printer dialog box won't function. All said, I rarely use those features so it seems I now have a copy of InDesign (CS 3) on OS 10.6.5 printing adequately, provided I only use the print dialog box from within InDesign CS3, which suites me fine.
    Good luck everyone.

  • Can't Install a Fax Modem - Snow Leopard thinks it is a printer

We have 4 computers on a network three of which are running Snow Leopard. The fourth is a G5 running tiger with an internal modem. I have set this up to send faxes and allow other computers to use it and Printer sharing is enabled.
When I try and install the Internal Modem in the Snow Leopard machines it comes up as a printer, not a fax machine and defaults to the "Generic Postscript Printer" driver. Any ideas how to install this as a Fax?

I was not able to repro with latest Vipre 2014 build. Please ensure your virus definitions are upto date.
Let me know in case of any issues.
    Regards,
    Ashutosh

  • Just upgraded my iMac to OS x snow leopard. trouble now with my printer. I've disconnected and reconnected. Does not seem to recognize printer. It is listed as the default printer

just upgraded my iMac to OS x snow leopard. Now I have another problem. Printer not working. I've unplugged and replugged, nothing happens
    HELP
    thanks in advance

Go to the website for your printer manufacturer and check if there are SL compatible drivers available for your model. This is not an unusual issue, and if the printer's not too old, the updated drivers should be there.
If you can't find one on the manufacturer's site, try Apple Support Downloads and look back through the updates in there; Apple has issued generic updates for a number of printers since SL's release, so you may find one that way.
After installing the new drivers you'll need to setup the printer again.

  • Recently installed Snow Leopard software and now my printer will not respond. Any suggestions?

I recently installed Snow Leopard. Now my printer will not respond. How do I troubleshoot that?

Start by telling readers the make&model of your printer, and what cabling you are using to connect it.
If you were connecting via AppleTalk, it is no longer supported, and you will need a different connection method. Readers can help you with that.
Some printers will need updated Drivers for Snow Leopard. Some printers need to be deleted and re-added.

  • Installing MF4320d Canon on Snow Leopard 10.6.4

    Hello!
I've a serious headache since yesterday, when I bought Canon MF4320d.
Yesterday I connected it successful, first like scanner (using Euro-version of software Mac Scangear MF V1.20 EN.dmg).
Then I spent hour trying to connect it like printer. And finally - it works!
In printers list there where line "Multifunctional (not definitely so, I have a russian localization of Mac OS)", printing from word, printing pdf-documents - all was fine. But scanner didn't work. And I tried to install Mac Scangear MF once again. After reboot scanner was ok, but printer didn't work.
Then I tried different drivers, always cleaning system before installing new driver. (using console, sudo and rm, cleaning scanner and printer files, drivers, plists and so on).
The biggest success I've made - is printer name in list while trying to add new one. When I add it and try to print - process fail with 10322 error.
Connectign to Windows-PC work without any trouble. When I try to connect to printer by smb - error -50 raise.
I am confused by different verions of drivers. So I really need your help.

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Sorry to read that the installation caused you so much trouble. It should have been much easier than that.
For your information, there is only one printer driver that is compatible with the MF43xx series and that is the Canon UFRII v2.xx driver for OS X. The printer does not support any other printer language such as PCL or Postscript so there are no other driver options available. Also the driver is not included with the Canon Driver Update v2.3 provided by Apple - it only contains drivers for the Canon inkjets.
So with the Canon UFRII v2.xx driver installed on the Mac, when you select to add the printer you have to select the Default view (press the Default icon in the Add Printer browser). The MF43xx should appear in the list - and if the model also supports faxing you will also see the model listed with FAX after the name.
Please note that for the MF43xx to appear in the Default view the printer must be connected directly to the Mac via USB cable. The UFRII driver does not support the printer if it is connected to a wireless router, such as an Airport Extreme, nor does the driver support printing when the device is connected and shared from a Windows computer.
So with the printer connected to the Mac via USB cable, after you select the printer name in the Default view, the Print Using menu will state that the appropriate software is not installed on the Mac or available from Apple. This is normal for this driver. At this stage simply change the Print Using menu to 'Select printer software' and then type MF4 in the search window that appears. This will show only the devices with MF4 in their name, your MF4320 being one of them. With the correct model selected, click OK and then Add to complete the installation of the print queue. This should then allow you to print from your apps.
With regards to the scanning, like the printing this is only supported if the MF43xx is connected by USB cable to the Mac. Also, to scan from Image Capture or Preview, you need to press the Scan button on the MF43xx. For my MF4380dn, I need to press the Scan button twice. When pressed once, the display shows Network Scanner (because the model has an Ethernet port) and pressing the Scan button a second time shows USB Scanner. I believe your model only has USB support so I would assume that you only need to press the Scan button once.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Borderless printing on canon 610 snow leopard?

Whether I use canon's easy print or print from Photoshop or print from quark, I just don't seem to be able to coax borderless printing out of the 610. I printed my Xmas cards last year borderless; this year, zilch. What have I forgotten to do, do you think?

used the 4350 driver and it worked

  • Has anyone updated the software for 10.6 Snow Leopard and found that their printer no longer scans or prints?

Last October, I bought a MAC desktop that uses MAC OS X 10.6.8 and an HP 1050 All-in-One Printer J401a.
Everything worked beautifully until messages kept popping up about downloading critical MAC software update. Eventually, I succumber to the persistence and took the 7 hours required to do the download.
Since then, the printer refuses to scan. A mesage informs that "HP Utility quit unexpectedly" and a report is being sent automatically to Apple.
A few days ago, I got an engineer to have a look. He re-ran the HP disk 3 times and managed to get the scanner to work, but only once. His second visit did absolutely nothing and now even the printer doesn't work.
HP informs that this is a problem with MAC OS X 10.7 and suggests downloading a correction.
Has the Apply update turned the 10.6 to a 10.7?
I have un-installed HP and disconnected the printer.
What can I do to get this important facility back?

    Thanks for the reply.
Even after the 7 hour update download the MAC OS X still says version 10.6.8 and nothing appears to have changed except printer and scan errors. I've uninstalled HP after 3 futile reloads and disconnected the printer.
    Any suggestions?
    Lis
Right 10.7 is a purchase of a new oeprating system. Software update will not upgrade your computer to 10.7.
The Software on the disk is very old software. Ushally it's a good idea to download the latest software from HP. As such, have you tried downloading & Installing HP Deskjet Full Feature Software and Drivers - Mac OS X v10.5 and v10.6?
You may need to go into system prefrences, Printers, and delete the printer, and then re-add the printer.
When opening the scanning software; it's really important to open the right program. If you look in the HP software folder there should be sevreal programs. There should be a program called scanner select or some thing similar. That's the one you want to open. it will have you select the device you want to scan from; then it will give you the option to open the scanning program.
if that dosen't work, do you have any other mac or pc computers? the reason I ask; is that the printer could be having a hardware issue. if you try the scanner / printer with another computer; and you still have the issue, then you know it's an issue with the printer it self and not your computer.
My HP all-in-one scanner died about 8 months into owning it. I couldn't even use the built-in copy button on the printer to make copies.
