CS 4 Photomerge results in no image !

I am running OS 10.5.6 with CS4 2,8 gig Macbook Pro with 120gig scratch disk and 4 gig ram
I'm trying to merge 6 700-800 KB sized images which with a machine like I have should be done in seconds...well it seems to be working just fine but the result is NO IMAGE !
I've read several other posts on this but no actual answer.....
Any solutions for this yet ?

I have this exact same issue using Merge to HDR: CS4 will start opening the layers, aligning, merging, etc; the progress bar will be going, and I'll step away for a minute to do something while I wait. When I come back NOTHING: no result, no error, no layers, no current document - Photoshop is blank. ARG!
The issue seems random.
It has failed AND worked on the exact same set of photos (and yes, I'm using photos that have true, different exposures).
It has failed AND worked under all the following scenarios:
Lightroom > (right-click) Edit > Merge to HDR in Photoshop
Bridge > Tools > Merge to HDR in Photoshop
Photoshop > File > Automate > Merge to HDR
This is extremely frustrating. I never know when I kick off a merge if it will finish or not, and it fails roughly 60% of the time after all that waiting. I'm running Photoshop CS4 Ext on Windows XP Pro trying to merge raw NEF files.
Anyone else seeing the same thing? Anyone figure anything out?

  • Cs6 photomerge preferred order of images

    I have taken an 8 shot Panorama from the same spot on 2 different occasions but the resulting images are totally different.  Is there a way I can decide on which image I want to be at the start as I have tried loading them in a different order but to no avail - still comes out the same, Thanks

    If, for some reason, perhaps because of the similarity of the images, the order is the merge is compromised.  Since you know the proper sequence, Photomerge the first 2 images of the panorama. When completed, merge it with a third image, then merge that with a another until you have merged them all.
    By the way, the reason for this mixup is often traceable to the fact that the original photography did not overlap sufficiently. A safe overlap is 25%-33%

  • Greyscale threshold using ni black gives invalid results on large image

    I am analyzing images of hot steel slabs looking for cracks in the surface of the slab.  The images are 2048 pixels wide by 14000 to 40000 pixels high.  I am using NI Vision Assistant 8.5.
    Sometimes the threshold does not work right when using the grayscale threshold, Local Threshold: Niblack.  For smaller images it works ok, but for larger images it will not work.  There are no errors, but the result is an image full of colored pixels rather than an image of particles.
    I have attached some sample images.  These are small crops of the larger image.
    The first one is from an image about 17000 pixels high which worked properly.  The second is from an image about 25000 pixels high, which did not work.
    Is this strictly a size issue?  Is there something I can do to fix it?
    Thanks!

    I am having the problem within Vision Assistant.  I think at one point I migrated it to a LabVIEW vi and had similar results.
    I am going to try to post a link to the files.  The images are rather large, about 5MB.  I have also attached the script.
    The first file should work with the script, the second should not.
    Thanks for looking at this!

    Scanning (Into JPEG) of Plain Paper with few graphics results into multiple images.
    Whenever I scan a page which is almost a white paper, but has some graphics on it, then the Scanned Files is not a single, rather it becomes in multiple parts e.g. circle in one jpeg file, square in another jpeg file. However the scanning to PDF works fine. Please let me know if this is manufacturing defect or defect in the product I purchased.

    This only happens if I scan plain paper with few graphics. But scan to jpeg is working fine if the page has multiple objects

  • Graphics2D.scale(0.5, 0.5) or higher scale results in black image!

    All,
    I'm trying to print an image (a JPanel) after scaling it to fit with maximum aspect on a portrait or landscape page. I've liberally taken code from Marty Hall at http://www.apl.jhu.edu/~hall/java/ with some adaptations to come up with a scaling factor. The result is:
    public class PrintUtilities implements Printable {
      private Component componentToBePrinted;
      public static void printComponent(Component c) {
        new PrintUtilities(c).print();
      public PrintUtilities(Component componentToBePrinted) {
        this.componentToBePrinted = componentToBePrinted;
      public void print() {
        PrinterJob printJob = PrinterJob.getPrinterJob();
        printJob.setPrintable(this);
        if (printJob.printDialog())
          try {
            printJob.print();
          } catch(PrinterException pe) {
            System.out.println("Error printing: " + pe);
      public int print(Graphics g, PageFormat pageFormat, int pageIndex) {
        if (pageIndex > 0) {
          return(NO_SUCH_PAGE);
        } else {
          Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D)g;
          g2d.translate(pageFormat.getImageableX(), pageFormat.getImageableY());
          // Obtain a scale factor to print entire remote desktop on a page
          // regardless of page orientation or g2d image size:
          Dimension d = componentToBePrinted.getSize();
          double g2dWidth = d.width;
          double g2dHeight = d.height;
          double pageWidth = pageFormat.getImageableWidth();
          double pageHeight = pageFormat.getImageableHeight();
          double xScaleFactor = pageWidth / g2dWidth;

        RepaintManager currentManager = RepaintManager.currentManager(c);
        currentManager.setDoubleBufferingEnabled(true);
    }Please pay particular attention to the lines above that deal with "scaling factor". In this example, I have the "scale(xScaleFactor, yScaleFactor)" line uncommented, which results in a black image when I print. If I comment this line and uncomment the line "scale (0.40, 0.40)", the image scales fine. I've tried using an AffineTransform, but I couldn't get that to work either. I've searched at length through forums and through Google results, but I can't figure out exactly what I'm doing wrong. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much in advance!

    One more update... Portrait scaling seems to work fine with this version of the jvm, but landscape scaling is messed up, resulting in an image that's sort of gray. New code (only one changed method):
      public int print(Graphics g, PageFormat pageFormat, int pageIndex) {
        if (pageIndex > 0) {
          return(NO_SUCH_PAGE);
        } else {
          Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D)g;
          g2d.translate(pageFormat.getImageableX(), pageFormat.getImageableY());
          // Obtain a scale factor to print entire remote desktop on a page
          // regardless of page orientation or desktop size:
          Dimension d = componentToBePrinted.getSize();
          double g2dWidth = d.width;
          double g2dHeight = d.height;
          double pageWidth = pageFormat.getImageableWidth();
          double pageHeight = pageFormat.getImageableHeight();
          double scaleFactor = 1.0;      // default scale factor doesn't change image size
          if (pageFormat.getOrientation() == PageFormat.LANDSCAPE) {
               scaleFactor = pageHeight / g2dHeight;
          } else if (pageFormat.getOrientation() == PageFormat.PORTRAIT) {
               scaleFactor = pageWidth / g2dWidth;
          // scale the image relevant to the scale factor to fit it on one page:
          g2d.scale(scaleFactor, scaleFactor);
          // g2d.scale(0.40, 0.40);
          disableDoubleBuffering(componentToBePrinted);
          componentToBePrinted.paint(g2d);

  • "Why would Photomerge Automatically Reduce Merged Images in CS5"

    Hello,
         Man am I hoping that someone out there can help me with something thats I've been racking my brains over trying to figure out for a week now...
         I resently went to New York... I took several, multiple images, from different locations surrounding the city with plans on taking each set and making multiple panoramas from each of the locations that I shot from.
         For the most part "Everything" has been working out just fine. Except for a few images that I didn't apparently have enough "Overlap" for the "Reposition" to do its thing in Photomerge.  I read within these forum pages that it requires about 40% of an overlap in order for Photomerge to see what its looking at.  I also read that the "PhotomergeUI" plugin was available so that I could get the "Interactive Layout" back into CS5.  I used it in the few instances that I needed to, with no apparent problems that was until I attempted to merge panels that I had merged out of 3 or 4 individual images.  I had to use the Interactive Layout in order to merge the 2 panels that I had configured and as it was going through it merging process I watched the lower left status bar go from, for example,.. 18.2 inches - 18.6 inches for each of the 2 panels I was attempting to merge. When the process was completed, the height had gone from the 18.+ inch height, down to 9.2 inch height.  Basically cutting my image size by half !
         I tried the whole process over again with a different set of images that I had taken... The set consisted of 12 images with a Height of 4288 pixels (portrait).  I managed to get 9 of the 12 images merged, keeping the image in the 4000 - 4200 pixels in height... (i don't have a pano head so my camera was leveled by eye)   I then merged the remaining 3 together with no problem... When I went to merge the 3-panel merge with the 9-panel merge the Merge Process did the same thing... I watched the status bar go from 4000 - 4200 for the heights of the 2 panels, down to 2167 pixels once merged!
         I then tried the whole process over again, doing 2 panels of 6 images... when I got to the last set of 6, my height, again, dropped by half once merged...  So I tried something to see what would happen.  I took the remaining panel of 6 that I merged with no alteration to their height... and reduced them to match the height of the set that had been automatically reduced because of the merge.... I then attempted to merge the 2 panels together, and again, the final merge had the height reduced... this time down to a whopping 2.4 Inches!   From 18 inches in height, down to 2 inches in height, and not once did I ever go near anything that had to do with scale or image height...
    Can someone Please tell me what going on...?   I once did a panoramic in CS4 consisting of " 2 - Rows of 32 Portrait Images ", one row on top of the other... The final panoramic was of a 15 mile stretch of New York that I took 3 years ago... 64 images in total and I never had anything like this happening when it did it... It took me a while, but I never had any issues with Height and therefore overall size being altered as a result of a Photomerge...?...?
    I look forward to hearing some insight...

  • Photomerge panorama PSE7 wrong image order 360 view

    Hi,
    I have been using PSE7 and photomerge panorama for over a year on Windows XP with no problems.  Recently I tried stitching together eight images which formed a 360 view.  The problem is the resulting panorama is in the wrong direction, or image order.  To clarify, the eight images were taken left to right of an ocean view from a forest bluff, with my back to the sun.  So the sun is shining through the trees behind me, and image 1 is trees on the left side, image 2 is trees and ocean, with 3 and 4 being the ocean center and 8 being trees on the right side.  The images are titled 1 thru 8, and they are ordered in the dialog box 1 thru 8.  No matter what I do, all the photomerge panorama functions, except interactive, reverse the image order making the sun coming through the trees the center of the panorama, and not the ocean.  So the panorama I get is always 4 thru 8, 1 thru 3 not the 1 thru 8 that I selected.  All images were taken on a Canon G10 with 30% overlap for each image, on a tripod, no change in focal length, but some small variation in exposure.  My only solution is to use the interactive feature, but the results are not nearly as good as using auto or cylindrical.  The perspective option does not work because it is a 360 view.
    Thank you to those who have read my mini essay to this point, and an even bigger thank you in advance if you can help me solve this challenge.  So far I have not found this issue in any other post.
    Cheers,
    Ryan

    Now that you mention it I've never seen any way to specify which image is leftmost.
    You could create a slightly less than 360 degree pano, then merge the last image in separately...  I suppose you'd still chance it going in on either end though.
    Sure seems like a feature they definitely should have included.

  • Photomerge Panorama produces small image

    I'm trying to use Photomerge Panorama with 3 10MP images. It's a vertical panorama but if I arrange the images manually, Photomerge stitches them nicely.  The result is a high quality HDR panorama - but it's only about 1K pixels wide, and therefore useless.  I don't see any step where I can affect this resizing, which seems to happen on its own, arbitrarily.  Is this a bug? Is there any way to get Photomerge to preserve the resolution of my photos when stitching them?

    This is happening with Elements 8.
    I'm reviving this thread because I'd really like to use this feature - but it's apparently broken, and if Google is telling me the truth, it's never really worked reliably in any previous version of Elements.
    By selecting manual positioning, and flipping between 'perspective' and 'reposition', I can sometimes trick Elements into trying to stitch a full size panorama; I see the images suddenly pop back to full size; but E8 then grinds for a while, then the Photomerge UI closes, and no image is produced.  Nothing.  Or sometimes E8 just locks and has to be killed with Task Manager.
    My source images were TIFF - I tried converting them to JPG - it made no difference.  There's nothing unusual about these images, they're just 10MP photos. I've tried other options in Photomerge Panorama, and the result is always the same.   Apparently it will only produce a panorama at about half the resolution of the original images - basically useless.
    Does anyone use Photomerge Panorama to successfully get a full size image?  Does anyone know if this feature works properly in Elements 9?

  • Printing PDF to HP Color Laserjet 2550Ln result in Red images

    When printing PDF documents to my networked HP Color LaserJet 2550Ln, usually the embedded images are covered in a red hue. This was already the case with MacOSX 10.4, but still continues with Leopard 10.5.2, using Bonjour. Printing the same document (also using Bonjour) via a windows machine (Windows XP SP2) results in a perfect copy.
    Anyone an idea of the cause of this behaviour?

    Gerard

    This works for me, because I'm tired of waiting for Adobe to find solutions: open your pdf document with Preview and print from there. It will print cleaner and faster than any Adobe application.

  • Exporting video results in still image with original sound background

    I've tried several times to export my home movie (MOV) into smaller formats using the export function. It worked fine on QT 6 but now I'm on version 7 and it's not working. The final product is a still image of the first frame and the original recording. I've tried exporting to various formats as well with the same result. Any help out there? Thanks!!!

    Would it matter if the very first file from the camera was an AVI file? I first had QT convert that file to an MOV file which plays just fine.
    As long as the MOV file plays in QT, it shouldn't matter at all. In fact, placing it in a known "space" should indicate it is convertible to other target formats even if only on your system configuration.

  • Printing to any PDF printer results in an image of the page instead of searchable text from all websites

    When I print to any number of different pdf printer software I've tried, it always yields an image of the webpage but never searchable text in the pdf which is the result of printing to pdf from IE or Chrome.

    I suspected as much.  I was hopeful it was something like a setting that needed to be changed or a reg hack that needed a bit changed from 0 to 1 to make the printing work as expected.  I only installed the local printer to see if the RDP session
    tunnel was in fact causing the print size to balloon so I will continue to instruct users to use that instead of the local redirected printer.  I am disappointed but not surprised.
    Edit:
    Additionally I have tested the functionality of setting the GPO settings for Easy Print to use the redirected printer's drivers instead of the ones used by easy print, by setting “Computer
    Configuration -> Administrative templates -Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host -> Printer Redirection”.
    to “Disabled” but
    with no luck.  In fact the printer received the proper Adobe PDF driver, but the job went out into print spool hell and was lost to the ether.  I have concluded that this approach will not bear any fruit.

  • CS4 Photomerge Won't Align Images Correctly

    I've used PS CS4 successfully several times to create panoramic images. I decided to re-do a panorama that I had created with an older version a few years ago, but CS4 won't align the images correctly. It keeps trying to make the horizon into a wavey line. It also is not giving me the option of adjusting its results. Is there anything I could do to fix this?

    You probably don't want to hear this, but Photoshop CS5 apparently has improved horizon handling over CS4.  I've noticed the horizons in my panos are coming out better with CS5.
    That said, have you tried "Cylindrical" mode instead of "Automatic"?

  • Downloading images from Canon EOS 7D camera results in corrupted images.

    Hi,
    I'm struggling to download images from my Canon EOS 7D camera. The images appear corrupted on my hard drive. This does not happen consistently. Some images get corrupted, but could appear properly when trying a second time. The errors occur in EOS Utility or in iPhoto: same (bad) result. I tried to repeat downloading on a Windows machine (separate) and in a Ubuntu environment (Virtual Machine on my mac). In both cases, I had no problem. Canon states that the problem resides in my iMac. The dealer of my camera mentioned that if they see those problems, it usually relates to bad connections or a poor USB cable. I also tried several USB ports and cables, but could not resolve the problem that way. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    I've had this issue a few times and found it falls in to a few buckets, just a few things to consider if the images show up fine in the camera but not when you copy them out.
    1) The format (version of RAW in my case I was using with Aperture
    2) The reader
    3) The drive
    4) The connection
    Format: when I first got the 7d I wanted to use the RAW.2 version. The .CR2 file format (Canon RAW version 2) is a digital photography RAW format created by Canon. "RAW" here means that this file stores information directly coming from the sensor, almost without processing. This file would show up corrupt every time i tried to open in in Aperture, or IPhoto on my Power-Mac
    G5. I could only open it up in the supplied Canon software After some poking around I found out that I had to upgrade to Aperture3 to get the new supported RAW formats. Since I can't buy a new mack I changed the version of RAW I used.
    Once I changed from using that RAW format it was fine. There are times Aperture will say that the file is corrupt but
    when I restart the application it is fine I think there are some memory issues when it does this and I have to reboot the application over time.
    The READER:I used to use a USB reader which was fine for the 10D but with the 7D and the 5D the files are much larger in RAW from 10 megs on the 10D to 25 megs or more on the 7D/5DMk2. After shooting 500 - 1000 shots in a night I'd have to download overnight in order to get everything. Some times the file would be corrupted coming over. If I pulled the file off later one by one or in smaller groups it would be fine. I have since upgraded to a Firwire 800 cards reader. Hours becomes 10 minutes for a 16Gig fill loaded card. not 8-10 hours.
    The Drive: I've seen every files copy except 1, if I am able to hook up another drive and it works I run DiskWarrior, TechTool or SoftRAID. Usually thy confirm a bad sector in the drive. I'll back up the drive with time machine or a disk dupe software and then format the drive it it's part of a RAID I replace the drive entirely from the chain.
    The connection: bad cables have also been a culprit but not often with firewire.

  • CS4 photomerge cannot align my images- period...

    I have downloaded the plug-ins and reset my preferences.  Still: the message "some images cannot be aligned" and no suggestion on how to fix the problem.  I have always successfully used CS3 toi merge edited tif files.  Any other ideas except to reload CS3

    Hi
    Can you explain a little further what these plugins do? I guess the key here is Photomerge UI. I have CS5, and I sometimes miss the interactive alignment feature of the Photomerge from Elements. Interactive alignment is not possible via the Photomerge feature of CS5, although it is possible to move pictures around and auto-blend them. Would installing the Photomerge UI to my CS5 restore the interactive alignment feature of the Photomerge I had in Elements?

  • How to continuously ping and result changes an image.

    Hi there developer network!
    I am having a issue figuring out how to loop a piece of ping code and result ( if true or false ) changes an image.
    here is my code running on a button click,
    My aim here is to basically automise the app so the user does not have to click the refresh icon,
    I have read a bit and am thinking I could use a while loop, But am unsure on how to use sleep with it.
    The other method would be to use a thread with sleep?

    Hi Gareth,
    >>My aim here is to basically atomize the app so the user does not have to click the refresh icon,
    My suggestion is use a
    Timer Class.  The Elapsed event will be raised every X amount of seconds, specified in milliseconds by the
    Interval property on the Timer object. It will call the Event Handler method you specify, in the example above it is
    OnTimedEvent.
    public static void Main()
    System.Timers.Timer aTimer = new System.Timers.Timer();
    aTimer.Elapsed+=new ElapsedEventHandler(OnTimedEvent);
    aTimer.Interval=5000;
    aTimer.Enabled=true;
    Console.WriteLine("Press \'q\' to quit the sample.");
    while(Console.Read()!='q');
    // Specify what you want to happen when the Elapsed event is raised.
    private static void OnTimedEvent(object source, ElapsedEventArgs e)
    Console.WriteLine("Hello World!");
