CS 5.5.2 and still no GTX480 support for Mecury Engine?What are you guys smoking when supporting 470

Never buying a Adobe product again. I'm in supporting for death of Flash. This is gone too far. I'm pissed to the core with Adobe. I would rather have FCP do the job than this crap where i don't get support.

Meetajhu,
MPE with GPU acceleration does indeed speed up both renders and encoding (when exporting from Premiere Pro 5/5.5) by a factor of generally between 1.5 and 1.8. See the following thread to better understand what I mean by this:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/3459631?tstart=0
I just ran a test with all files on a single drive and to export 7.25 minutes of AVCHD to MPEG2-DVD (NTSC, progressive, wide, HQ) and comparing HW assisted vs. SW only I get:
w/ GTX 580 = 90% CPU + 54% GPU (takes 1:21)
software only = 98% CPU + 0% GPU (takes 2:00)
As you and others point out, when using MPE w/ GPU can speed up the time required for "Timeline Rendering" by up to a factor of infinity, but that can be useless if only doing a "render effects in timeline" (Enter key) is not enough rendering for your hardware to provide smooth playback from the timeline!
For example, if you have a timeline that show fully "red", as the AVCHD example above does on my PC, then PPro will force a partial render before it will even play back the clip (even though on my PC it plays flawlessly by simply pressing the spacebar). Then, when I shift over to "MPE with GPU accelaration" the whole timeline shows a yellow bar indicating that it is ready for playback without any rendering.
Finally, try to give PPro a chance; FCP had years of being at the top, but it is PPro's time now!

Jim

    Only the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.

    I have no idea what may have caused your MacBook to stop working, but from your description it kind of sounds like it may have started before you ran Software Update and installed the new Apps. Just the general slow feeling and bugginess is what tips me off. You said that you weren't sure if you had closed all open windows, that doesn't matter if the computer restarts itself. It automatically closes all other open applications when restarting.
    As to your data being retrievable, if when you take it in they do a fresh install of the OS, then no, it will not be unless you want to pay several thousand dollars to a software retrieval company.
    I am glad to hear that you have taken into the Apple Store to get it fixed, and that you have all of your purchased music backed up to your iPod. You should be able to just transfer it all back to iTunes once you get your computer back should it be necessary.
    As a side note, the proper place for this topic would probably in the MacBook forums, not iTunes since there is no evidence that iTunes started the issue.

  • Can I stream a movie from my Macbook to my Apple TV on one display, and still use my Macbook for other things?

    I have a Macbook Pro and an Apple TV. What I'd like to do is stream a movie from my CinemaNow Account to my television by using my Apple TV and my Macbook. I know that I can do this my using the mirroring feature, however then I can no longer use my Macbook for anything else because my TV will only display what is on the screen of my Macbook. Now with this is mind, what then is the point of having multiple displays through the use of my Apple TV, if only one display can be used at a time unless they both show the same image? Or is there a way for me to be able to stream the movie to my TV and still use my Macbook for other purposes (multi-tasking)?

    To enable a second display over AirPlay, you first need to be connected to the same network as your Apple TV. Next, open System Preferences > Displays, and select your Apple TV from the “AirPlay Display” drop-down menu.
    Once you do this, your display may flash as the second display connection is acquired, and the Apple TV takes over as the second display. If the displays are mirrored, then you can correct this by opening the “Arrangement” tab in System Preferences > Displays, and ensuring that the “Mirror Displays” checkbox is unchecked.
    In this same “Arrangement” tab, you can move the displays around in the pane to ensure that they're positioned correctly, relative to your physical space (usually side-by-side, or top-down). The primary display here is denoted here by the Menu bar on the display. The arrangement helps with being able to drag windows from one display to the next: if your secondary display is arranged to be to the right of your primary one, for example, you can drag things to it through the right side of your primarcy screen.

    Hi frogjt,
    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
    Great question! You can absolutely do this in OS X 10.9. The attached article explains how the process of using AirPlay with Apple TV to create a second display. Also, towards the bottom of the article there are instructions on how to set your Displays preferences on the computer to make sure the TV and MacBook Pro displays are set up the way you want them to be.

    Using mountain lion operating system, downoaded iphoto 9.4 update, aperature 3.4.3 update and still cannot access photo stream.  now what??

    With Aperture, you should be able to use Photo Stream now, but you need iPhoto 9.4.2 > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1608
    After updating iPhoto to the latest version, open System Preferences > iCloud and tick Photo Stream. Finally, you will have to turn on Photo Stream on iPhoto and Aperture choosing Photo Stream on the sidebar of both programmes

  • Can time capsule be connected wirelessly and still use ethernet ports for other devices?

    can time capsule be connected wirelessly and still use ethernet ports for other devices? we have it connected wirelessly but devices connected to the ethernet ports are not working.

    Not as an additional router.. the TC will be plugged into the main router via ethernet (or ethernet equivalent)..
    Then the TC is setup in bridge mode. It will simply act as a Switch and HDD.
    The wireless can be setup in a number of ways.
    From your convenience point of view use it in roaming network mode..
    you simply give the TC the same Wireless Name as the existing routers SSID.
    Same security setting and password. WPA2 Personal = WPA2 AES which is the best.
    But they both use different wireless channels.. normally if you leave the TC on auto it will work fine, but I prefer to control the network.. so set the main router to say 1 and the TC to 11.
    You can also use a completely different wireless name etc.. that is up to you. It is still a single flat network and the only thing that is important is only having one router.

  • Forms and validations - here's some of my ideas, what are yours?

    One of the big things still missing from the JFX space (especially where JEE is concerned) is forms and form validations. Maybe you guys have been luckier but at least 80% of the screens I've had to build in my career have been boring old forms - enter data in the fields, validate them and hit submit.
    So, I've been hacking around on this to try and get a pattern and hopefully some reusable classes for doing this in JavaFX. I have something that works but the code is verbose and less than elegant. I'm hoping some of you guys might want to kick around some ideas on this with me here. If we can come up with something that works, I'd like to either include it in [url http://www.zenjava.com/jfx-flow/]JFX Flow, or put it out as a separate open source project (whichever makes more sense).
    What I think needs to be supported:
    * Map between a normal Java bean and the fields on a form
    * Validate the data, i.e. specifying the constraints on a field and then checking those constraints
    * Show a validation summary at the top of the form
    * Highlight individual fields if they have validation errors
    * Support auto-validation, i.e. the validation highlights and messages will instantly update as the user types
    Some extra restrictions:
    * The data input will ideally be a normal bean and so it won't have observable values on it. In most projects I use, the beans are coming from the server and sometimes may be shared between desktop client and a jsp/web client, or even be a third party API so they can't be changed. End result: we don't want any JFX complexities or dependencies in our server code (design leak). This rule could be bent but only as a last resort.
    * The validations must be defined relative to the normal data bean not a JFX model or controller, etc. This is so the bean can be validated on the server as well as the client. The server must do validation to prevent dodgy data getting in (never trust a client). Ideally we don't want to be specifying the validations in two places (i.e. once for the client and once for the server) as this creates maintenance problems and weakens the integrity of the system over time.
    * Ideally the validation mechanism will be based on [url http://java.dzone.com/articles/bean-validation-and-jsr-303]JSR 303 - Bean Validations as this is quite nice. This is flexible however if there is a suitable alternative that integrates better.
    To give us something to reference in conversation, I've created a small working sample. This is only meant to be a rough starting point (at best) and I'd really like to get feedback on both the code (i.e. should we have a 'presentation model', how could bindings be better used, etc) and the general way I'm representing errors (i.e. should we use tooltips to show errors, or actually show the errors next to the field, should we use border colours or put a little exclamation mark over the field, should the fields be auto-validated or only validated on submit, etc).
    The example is a single form for editing a person. It has three fields, first name, last name and gender. When the form is blank, auto-editing is off. When the user submits the form it is validated and from that point on auto-validating is on. Error fields are highlighted with a style change, and a tooltip is added with details (I think we can do better - what's your ideas?).
    I have used all plain Java to keep thngs simple, but I'd be looking for the end result to translate to FXML as well. I've also coded everything into the one class but the eventual goal would be to have the common stuff moved out to reusable base classes, etc.
    Here's a workspace with some example code in it: http://code.google.com/p/jfxee/source/browse/trunk/jfxforms/
    Here's a running deploy of that code: http://zenjava.com/demo/form/forms.html
    (edit: I've moved the code to its own project and changed the url for the launch - the values above are the new, correct ones)
    Looking forward to hearing some thoughts on this topic.

    At Devoxx I did some straw man prototype that you might find useful (or hopeless, I'm not sure which, I did it in a hurry :-)). I followed some principles that I was influenced by years back by JGoodies, but I haven't looked at the JGoodies stuff in forever and know it isn't all the same. But anyway, like I said, I'm not sure it is actually useful but maybe there is something genius hidden in there.
    I have a Validator, which is just a simple SAM:
    import javafx.scene.control.Control;
    * @author Richard
    public interface Validator<C extends Control> {
        public ValidationResult validate(C control);
    }The idea is that it is given a Control, it will validate that control, and then return a ValidationResult. ValidationResult is actually only needed in cases of errors, since returning null indicates success, so the following is somewhat of a crock but you could rename it ValidationError or something and remove the "SUCCESS" type and there you are.
    public class ValidationResult {
        public enum Type { ERROR, WARNING, SUCCESS }
        private final String message;
        private final Type type;
        public ValidationResult(String message, Type type) {
            this.message = message;
            this.type = type;
        public final String getMessage() {
            return message;
        public final Type getType() {
            return type;
        }For good measure I threw in a ValidationEvent.
    import javafx.event.Event;
    import javafx.event.EventType;
    * @author Richard
    public class ValidationEvent extends Event {
        public static final EventType<ValidationEvent> ANY =
                new EventType<ValidationEvent>(Event.ANY, "VALIDATION");
        private final ValidationResult result;
        public ValidationEvent(ValidationResult result) {
            super(ANY);
            this.result = result;
        public final ValidationResult getResult() { return result; }
    }Because Control's don't presently have the notion of validation built in, I created a ValidationPane which is like a specialized StackPane, where there is a bottom layer, the control, and a glass pane layer. And from CSS you can style it however you like. The ValidationPane has a CSS style class set in case of errors / warnings. So without augmenting controls, the idea is that a ValidationPane subclass would exist to wrap each type of control you needed to validate. It did this because somebody has to wire up the listeners to the control to react on text input etc, and so I thought I'd like that encapsulated in something reusable, and there it was.

        public TextInputValidatorPane(C field) {
            this();
            setContent(field);
    }This should also be usable as is from FXML since you can easily wrap a TextInputValidatorPane around a TextField, and CSS does all the styling, so I think it all just works. You probably need to have some library of sophisticated Validators which know how to read text from a TextField and compare against the validation annotations, but otherwise it should work well enough. Anyway, in the actual implementation I think I would omit the ValidationPane stuff completely and just build that part into the controls / skins. Like I said, this was a quick hack but seemed to get the "how do I visualize validation errors" part of the problem solved.

    There are a lot of posts in the forums today with people having problems with iMessage.   There was also a published outage yesterday, so it's possible there are still some issues that may be impacting you both.
    I would just wait it out - I'm sure it will be sorted out soon.

  • Still on PS3? What are you waiting for?

    Are you still playing PlayStation 3? Why haven't you moved to the new generation with PlayStation 4? What are you waiting for? A specific game? The right price? Morpheus?

    i'm broke at the moment, but in all fairness, I've got plenty of stuff to keep me busy as it is on my PS3 (as well as my WiiU, Amiga, Spectrum, 3DS, PC and Atarti2600) so I have no real need to upgrade. Furthermore, I'm not sure where to go next gen yet. It's tooe arly days to make a sensible decisison. Morpheus is callling to me, but currently I am much more impressed with the XboxOne with all its functionality, external HDD support and codecs, than the rather barren and user-unfriendly (for me anyway) PS4. I am also very angry and unforgiving with Sony for all the content removal on both my PS3 and SmartTV (which has lost Facebook, Midnight Pulp, Sony Entertainment TV, Crackle, Viewster and a whole host of other apps they decided they didn't want to run anymore.) As well as loads of things on the TV that just dont work properly that they cant be bothered to fix, incluing something that casues Youtube to crash all the time. The loss of PSHome was the final straw for me with Sony. Contrary to what a lot of people like to think it was very busy, and for me it was quite important, due to health issues I am fairly housebound, and it was a very good way for me to socialize.I just don't trust Sony anymore to make something that won't be downgraded in the near future. If Morpheus is great then I might be tempted to PS4 in time, but with rumors starting to emerge that the XboXone might support the Oculus, Sony have even lost the VR edge. Just wait and see for now.

    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
    How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
