CS 5.5 - Can I export Discrete Audio Channels w/ MXF OP1a

I created a new Sequence as 16 channel audio, each as mono. I've populated 8 channels.
I export an MXF 0P1a.
I brought the MXF back in and cut it to a new sequence to test the audio export. And on the new sequence the mix tool is only showing audio on the first 2 channels, even though the file imported with 8 channels. So it seems like PPro mixed the channels down.
Can I export an MXF with 8 discrete audio channels?

I have checked it and it doesn't work  6.0.3. I have proper 8 chanel audio on sequence and audio master shows this cannels properly. After exportin i have only 2 channels.
Please report how to do it properly.

  • Why does compressor settings of aac audio, stereo, create 2 channel mono from 2 discrete audio channel movies?

Why does compressor settings of aac audio, stereo, create 2 channel mono from 2 discrete audio channel movies?

well depending on how your audio is brought into your system you can select it as two streams of mono or a stereo pair. In reality, unless it's mixed in stereo, that's just two streams of mono locked together. Other streams brought in via other means, can have a lot more audio channels, e.g. 8, 16, 24.
In your case, with what you're doing, two separate channels works best, so you can control the levels of two very different audio sources. If, for instance, you were taking the feed from the mixing board during a concert, you might want their stereo out. Otherwise you might be dealing with the 1.2 zillion channels that they're mixing live.
I like separating the tracks coming in. I work with people who prefer to lock them together. Locking means the tracks move together during editing. Ok, fine, but I'm usually dealing with different audio sources, like you are: a camera mic (safety on location) and a close mic (shotgun, lav). Or I have a shotgun source and a lav. I want to determine the best source audio for the shot. Sometimes it's a lav, sometimes a different feed from somewhere else, sometimes the shotgun, and sometimes a mix of two sources. But if they're locked together and pre-set to come out evenly from both speakers there no way for me to make a determination. The other guys like to cut and figure out the audio later.
To each his or her own. . .

  • Exporting multiple audio channels Final Cut 6

Does anyone know how to export multiple audio channels out of Final Cut Pro 6 from one quicktime export?

You want a multichannel QT, or AIFF files of the individual channels with one step?

  • 6 Discrete audio channel export

    Hello all,
does anyone know how I can export a wav with 6 channels of discrete audio from PP?  According to the drop-down I can export 5 or 7 or anything above that but not 6, which is often what I want, as it represents either 5.1 or stereo dialogue music and effects splits.  I know I can select the 5.1 option, but that tags the file as 5.1, which I usualy don't want.
whats up with that? just add the number between 5 and 7.

This is a shot of the Audio export dialogue for DNxHD files, this might be of some use.

  • How can I export an audio track

I have made an audio track with three songs in GB and now I want to export it and use it as a track for a Keynote slideshow.
How can I export it as AAC or similar?

I don't remember Reason being that straight forward, but the obvious way to go, is to mute all sends and bounce.
Then solo the reverb channel, in aux, checking it isn't shared by other sources, and bounce. You should have a dry and a reverbed signal, at your convenience.

  • Can't export MP3 audio from Premiere Elements 9

I want to export the audio from my movie.  The File, Export option appears to be unavailable, regardless of what I do; I saw elsewhere on the forum that all exporting is now done through the Share tab, and referring to PE8, the post recommended the "share to computer" tab.  Under advanced options, I set the audio to be exported as an MP3, with no video.  However, the "advanced" button leads to a screen with 3 tabs: "Format," "Video," and "Audio."  I can make those changes under the "Audio" tab with no problem, and because I have chosen to export only the audio, there is no information under the "video" tab.  The problem is that the "Format" tab only gives me two options, ".flv" and ".fl4" or something like that, and the resulting file appears to be a 7 second long, blank and silent video, played by Windows Live Movie Maker.  How can I get my audio exported?

Are you using version 8 or version 9? It's hard to tell because you reference both.
In version 9, if you go to the Share tab and select the Computer option, you'll be taken to a screen with seven output options.
Audio wil be listed as your last option. (You do have to click on the Audio listing to select it.) and MP3s are certainly among the options listed on the Preset menu.
If you can't see it, you need to scroll down or resize your panels -- or your computer monitor may not be large enough. But it's there.

  • How can I export an audio track with just the effect signal without the audio?

I want to export dry audio tracks and their effects signals as separate tracks. For instance a track with a reverbed snare would be one track with the dry snare and one with just the reverb.
I know from people who use Reason that it's just a box you need to tick, but I'm struggling to find out how to do it in Logic. Surely it must be a way?

  • Exporting multiple audio channels from Premiere Pro CS6 in MXF OP1a

I have a Premiere Pro project with multiple audio channels and I want to export them as individual channels in a MXF-file.
    Method:
When I created a new sequence I choose "Multichannel" from the "Tracks" page. When I export the MXF OP1a, I choose 8 channels from the "Audio" page. I make sure that none of the channels are muted.
    Result:
The rendered file contains 8 channels as I want it to, but only the first two channels contains audio (main left + right), the rest of the channels are empty. Channel 1 and 2 contains the audio from all channels, but I want the channels to be seperated in the same way as they are layered in Premiere.
Any ideas what I can do?
    Thank you for your help!

    Hey Guys,
I'm having problems exporting an 8 channel audio mxf for a broadcast client. The mix they want is as follows:
Track 01: Full Programme Mix L
Track 02: Full Programme Mix R
    Track 03: International Sound L
    Track 04: International Sound R
Track 05: Music and Effects L
Track 06: Music and Effects R
    Track 07: VO Mono
    Track 08: Interview Mono
I have setup the sequence following this video on vimeo and am fairly confident I have the sequence settings correct. https://vimeo.com/38501157
I also can export a multichannel mxf. But all my tracks are exported as mono and I am therefore not maintaining my L and R as set up in my sequence
The problem is on exporting that since Tracks 01 and 02 are bounced down to 1 + 2 it means that my Track 01 (Panned L) is getting bounced down onto my Track 02 aswell and thus it does not remain seperate. Has anyone delivered a similar format for a broadcaster and come across this problem with Premiere Pro and know a solution?
Any help would be much appreciated
    Thanks
    Eamonn

  • Compressor only exporting left audio channel in AIFF! Please help!!

Hi, I just realized that the files that I have been exporting using compressor have been only exporting the left channel of audio. I am not sure what the problem is and would appreciate any help anyone could give me, as I'm on a big deadline and need to solve this ASAP.
The way I've been doing it, is I right click on the sequence name in Final Cut Pro and select Export > Export Using Compressor. Then I selected the DVD Best Quality 90 Minutes option. The AIFF file that is created seems to only have audio in the left channel. The original files themselves are definitely stereo, and play both channels in Final Cut.
I really don't understand. The Inspector within Compressor shows this information for the AIFF file:
    File Extension: aiff
    Estimated file size: unknown
Audio Encoder: 16-bit Integer (Big Endian), Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz
It says Stereo, so I don't know what the problem is! Please help!!!

    Glad I could help.
Sorry for being a bit unclear, and actually misguiding you a bit on the reference files. Reference files are referring to the original media/render files. As long as you do not change the actual media/render files, you should be able to do changes to your FCP project. If you have not rendered before you export a QuickTime Movie reference file of your sequence, it will render on the fly and put the render files inside the reference file with the audio.
I would recommend reading more about self-contained files and reference files in the Final Cut Pro User Manual -> Volume IV -> Part III -> Exporting QuickTime Movies -> Choosng the Type of QuickTime Movie to Export
    From the manual:
Choosing the Type of QuickTime Movie to Export
You can create two kinds of QuickTime movies with the Export QuickTime Movie command—a self-contained movie or a reference movie.
Self-contained movie: A self-contained movie contains the video and audio media— all of the data used to create your movie is within a single file. This single file can be safely and easily copied to another computer without worrying that you need other files to play it back.
Reference movie: A reference movie is a very small file that contains pointers, or references, to all of the captured clips used in your sequence. The actual media is located in the original media files. If you rendered your transitions and effects before creating the reference movie, then there are pointers to your render files as well. Otherwise, all of your transitions and effects are rendered using the current level of compression, and then embedded inside the resulting reference movie, increasing its size. All audio tracks, mixing levels, cross fades, and audio filters are rendered and the resulting stereo or mono audio tracks are embedded in the reference movie.
Exporting a reference movie saves time, since you don’t have to wait for every frame of your edited sequence to be duplicated. It also saves hard disk space, since pointers to other files require little space. Reference movies are particularly useful when outputting your sequence for compression using a third-party compression utility.
However, reference movies are not very useful as a means of delivering video files to other people. If you give someone a reference movie, you must also give them the original video files associated with that movie, which can be complicated since you may not know where all the referenced media is stored on disk.
In general, exporting reference movies increases the risk that the movie may not play back. Reference movies are best used when you have short-term uses for the exported movie file, and you only plan to use them on the system you exported them to.

  • IMovie App Only Exporting Left Audio Channel

Dunno what's up with this. My iPod takes video just fine, with stereo audio. When I export anything from the iMovie app, however, just the left audio channel is active.
    Known bug? What's up?

yes, you are not the only one with this problem. I think we have to wait for another update sadly . But strange thing is, one of my projects successfully exported both channels, left and right. Trying to find the difference between these projects but currently I can't find any.

  • Split/discrete audio channels?

How do you split audio tracks on export? So that the quicktime or exported video file can have, say, dialogue on channel 1 and music/sfx on channel 2?

It should work if you setup your sequence as multitrack.

  • Does FCP 4.5 have audio channel bug, and can only do 2 audio channels?

I transferred my digibeta project with 4 audio channels (2 are Music & Effects) to an uncompressed QT at a dubbing facility. I can play the QT with all 4 channels heard on my G-5 Powermac, but when I import the QT file into FCP 4.5 (to do some re-cutting), it will only import two audio channels (the Music & Effects) and not my other two stereo tracks with dialogue. and it's not the timeline because I have four channels available -- it's the actual imported file losses two of the audio channels on import into FCP. I tried importing the same file into iMovie and it plays all four channels, unlike FCP. I have three computers with 4.5, and each of them have the same problem. Is there a setting that will change this, or should I just throw FCP 4.5 away. Will I have the same problem with 6.0?
    Bryan

If you want to work with 4 Channels, throw out version 4.5 and get 6. Version 4.5 could only work with 2 channels. This changed with the 5.0 version. It's not really so much of a bug with 4.5 as just not being implemented in that version.

  • Missing one audio channel from MXF video

    Greetings,
I have a bunch of footage shot with a Canon XF300 camera. Two wireless lav mics were feeding into the camera. On the day, I was monitoring audio and am 100% certain that it was recorded correctly. I found a couple of unerased CF cards from the shoot and was able to verify that the audio is good when I pop the CF card into the camera.
However, when I transfer the footage to hard disk and attempt to play it out using either Premier Pro CS5, or VLC, I'm losing channel one of the audio. I've been attempting to troubleshoot, and have found a couple of references on the Web regarding missing audio channel 1 from MXF video files -- but nothing that is relevant to this situation.
I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.6 and am running Premiere Pro CS5 5.0.3. No video cards.
I've tried bringing the files in using: Finder, XF Utility and ShotPutPro. I'm copying the complete directory structure in all cases.
Has anyone seen this problem before? Any troubleshooting thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Cameron

It turns out that the MXF files are coming in with 2 mono audio tracks, and for some reason, in the clip viewer, one of the audio tracks doesn't play, but if you move the clip to the timeline, both audio channels can be heard. Ran into the same issue with Cineform encoded material coming in with two mono audio tracks. So I'm going to file a bug report.
Ah, OK... now I understand. No need to file a bug report; maybe a feature request, but a bug report isn't necessary. Here's why:
When you bring in clips with mono channels, by default, you only hear the first mono channel when playing back in the Source Monitor. If you toggle over to Audio Waveform view (click the Output button), you can select which of the channels (called "Tracks" which is a little silly, frankly) you want to monitor. Here's what this looks like:
This applies to any format that has mono channels. If you interpret the footage to stereo (you must do this before you use it in a sequence), you can listen to both channels at once. Of course, then you have to deal with the audio as stereo, which is not always what you want. That's why I do a lot of my editing with MXF material (primarily P2) that has multiple mic sources in a sequence, where I can monitor more than one source channel.
In any event, that's why this isn't really a bug; it might be a poor design decision, but it's otherwise working correctly. I'd definitely suggest making a feature request for a "Mixed" or "Plus" audio source option in the Source Monitor. I'm going to do the same.
Anyway, I hope that helps explain the issue. Good luck!
