CS 5.5 is sloooow!

Is CS 5.5 noticeably slower than CS 3?
I just purchased upgradges for CS 3.0 to CS 5.5 for ten co-workers now I'm mad because I feel like I took a step backwards in speed. Everyone is running on MacPro tower and 10.6 or 10.5 and everyone is complaining about how slow, latent and seemingly buggy CS is now. By buggy I mean something like make a box, grab it, move it, release the cursor, and it jumps to a different location.
$10500 for a step backwards is wrong (that cost includes a RAM upgrade to try to solveness… to no avail)
Is this a known issue?

Whatever application you’re asking about you should be posting in that forum.
This one is for suite specific issues only and each application is going to have different requirements.

  • Michael C stopped my MacBook booting into Darwin/BSD, but it is now sloooow

I am testing a MacBook 2.16 GHz for possible use at work. Upgraded to 3GB RAM and Hitachi 200GB HD. Performance was great after a week, but one day I got a dark screen at bootup with the Darwin/BSD-login-password message that a lot of people seem to get. I followed Michael Conniff's advice (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4550428) and got the system to boot into the GUI properly. But ever since then performance has been very slow: e.g. selecting the Date and Time takes 5 seconds to launch and clicking on the AirPort icon takes the same amount of time to produce the drop-down menu. It's like the MacBook is running in slow-motion. The exception is the Dock: it pops up quickly and the Apps scroll by quickly. Launching the Apps is another matter, though.
NO OTHER APPS INSTALLED. Really. No MS programs or even freeware. Just iLife '08. All the current updates have been installed. Zapped the PRAM, ran Disk Utility to check the disk and verify permissions--even booted into single-user mode and ran fsck (disk was okay). Tonight I reinstalled the OS in a clean install, installed all the updates, and afterwards the MacBook is just as slow. What is going on? If it's this slow, I guess I won't be using Parallels anytime soon to replace my Dell!

Well, this has been frustrating. The original hard disk also will occasionally boot into Darwin and menu selection is still very sluggish. The local Apple Store won't touch an Apple recertified MacBook--even one that was just delivered a couple of days ago from the Apple Store Online. I then spent several hours on the phone, mostly on hold, but sometimes transferred in a closed loop from Customer Support to Tech Support and back to Customer Support. Sadly, the case number I was given by a rep (the third one I spoke to) isn't showing up as valid either. At this point I just want to return the MacBook (which I think I still can), but I can't reach anyone to arrange for this!

  • Mail in OS 10.8.2 very sloooow!

The new mail (OS 10.8.2) is very slow. I click on Inbox and it could take up to a minute for anything to load. The same w/SENT. Also, click on get mail, nothing happens. Eventually, it will download one or two, more later. Finally, one more question: how do you "delete" mail in such a way that it doesn't reappear under the Inbox?
I wish I had the 10.6.8 Mail back! No problems with that!
    Thanks!

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Quit and relaunch Mail, and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

There is certainly no downside to use OpenDNS.

  • Creative Cloud Software Sloooow to start and crashes

    Hi Everyone
Does anyone have any problems with their CC programs (AI, PS and PP) taking forever to start up or crashing? It takes me about 75 seconds for PS to start up, over 2 minutes for AI and Premier pro starts, but once I try to open an existing Project it doesn't happen, it just hangs then crashes. Any thoughts?
    I'm running
    Mac Pro (Mid 2012)

HHey John thanks for the reply.
it was like this on Mavericks (for the past 6 months at least) and I just updated yesterday to Yosemite hoping it would improve, but it's still the same.

  • Disk Utility - Create encrypted disk images super sloooow

Trying to create encrypted disk images via Disk Utility on my iMac (i7 8GB) is super-slow in 10.8.   It worked quite fast in 10.7, but now it's super-slow and doesn't even seem to ever finish.
    I've tried re-installing 10.8 with no difference.
Anyone else having trouble with this?  Even a small dmg (~200MB) doesn't seem to work.
Unencrypted images seem to work OK (if not a little slow).
I realize that the encryption process will be slower but something is definately wrong with 10.8 disk utility in this regard.  I have 1TB+ free space.  I have tried with another user account as well.
My task was: (new disk image, read-write, 128bit encryption)

    Good morning,
Have you tried using Disk Utility from within the recovery mode? (Hold down CMD and R when booting)
I used to have this problem but creating them this way really improved the time.

  • AFP and Xserve RAID very SLOOOOW

Recently we have been having problems with AFP pegging the Xserve RAID activity lights. Xserve RAID Disk access is very slow.
    Machine Specs:
    Dual 2.3 GHZ G5 Xserve
1GB RAM (recently downgraded because of memory problems after a power outage)
    1x80GB Xserve drive module
    3TB Xserve RAID 5
Xserve RAID has been upgraded to 1.5 FW and has both ethernet connections connected.
The whole story is we had a power outage last week. The servers all came back up fine. Throughout the day we noticed that the file server was acting strange. We checked server monitor and it said that RAM slot 3&4 had problems. We opened up System Profiler and it reported that modules 2&3 were only 256MB! (These are 512MB modules). We brought the machine down and pulled the modules. The machine is now at 1GB of memory with more coming. The next day the machine was incredibly slow and the RAIDs access lights were pegged. Also something was pulling all free memory into inactive memory. After trial and error I've found that if I turn off AFP the RAID is no longer pegged and the memory goes back to normal. I thought AFP was the problem and did a complete rebuild of the server last night. This morning the same thing is happening. Also the logs show nothing is wrong.
All of our Macintosh users are Mobile accounts over AFP. We have around 60 Macintosh users. All of our PC users connect using SMB. We have around 20 PC users. All of our network users work off of the file shares.
Thanks for any and all help,
    -dustin

Check so that the Xserve RAID diskcache settings are not reset/off.
I have had to take apart the RAID controllers and putting them back togheter again to alleviate slowness/"malfunction" making a couple of RAIDs operating like normal again.
I use Helios Lantest http://www.helios.de/ and XRG to measure/stress disks locally and over the network to see if they are working correctly.

  • SSD Sloooow boot windows 7

    Hello,
    Happy new year.
I have replaced  my old sata disk with a ssd disk . Intel 520 240 gb. on my  T520.
I have a Windows 7 and a minor Linux partition. Dual boot.
I have moved the old image  with Arconis True HD.
However, there is a HUGE difference in boot times between Windows  and Linux.
Windows is 1 min and 35 sec with windows logo until login screen appears. Then additional 20 seconds.
Linux is 7-10 seconds from Lenovo sign in bios until I'm ready to go.
Off course I did not expect Windows to boot  as fast as Linux, but things has worsened after the change.
When Windows is up and running  the SSD disk is preforming in the same speedy way as under Linux.
It is just the boot situation which is terrible.
    AHCI is enabled .
Is there a solution out there??
    Anyone with experience.
    Rgds.
    Frank
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Just download the iso here, X17 and use your existing key.  Perfectly legit, perfectly legal.
If you really want to do it right, slipstream all the latest updates via WUD with 7Lite, then install your personalized recompiled DZT (Day Zero Today) version!  Bam!  Your 520 will thank you.

  • Problem with very sloooow printing of pdfs in Acrobat 7 Pro and 9 Pro

Some pdfs print with no problem but others are painfully slow. We find that some that are slow with Adobe 7 Pro print fine with Adobe 9 Pro, while others are slow with Adobe 9 Pro but print fine with Adobe 7 Pro. Still others are slow with both. A huge productivity problem for us. Any suggestions? Thanks.

when you get to the print screen it looks fine on the page, I've tried all the other options for scaling and when it prints it prints really tiny in the middle of the page. I have the paper set to letter. I did't see any options about shrinking the print.

  • SLOOOOW during themes; Causes computer to crash

Help! I just spent quite a bit of money (as you all know) on my new powerbook G4 last weekend and have so far been exceedingly satisfied with my purchase. Then, today I upgraded my standard iLife program to iLife 06, and was particlarly excited to start making movies with my pictures and video using the themes category.
However, whenever I try using themes, by comuter automatically freezes up for minutes on end, and goes SO slow! I can't even watch the video because it freezes and skips and goes extremely slow, causing my computer to crash every time. My computer completely freezes after awhile!
I've seen that I'm not the only one who has this problem... thankfully I didn't purchase iLife with my own money in addition to the computer, but still... I don't want it taking up a bunch of wasted room on my hard drive! It's a neat concept and everthing with the themes, but I don't necessarily HAVE to use it.
What recommendations do you guys have? (Those that have had problems and know what I'm talking about-- not those who have had perfect experiences. You've just been lucky, or we've just been unlucky. Who knows). Anyways, I would LOVE some help/advice on this because I don't want this wasted space on my hard drive, or have it cause my computer to run slower.
Has anyone had a problem outside of the themes page? I notice that there aren't as many options as there were on iLife 05'. Anyways. Let me know!!!

    Powerbook G4, 12 inch   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Interestingly I had this last night. Used the shuffle, attached to my MacBook... closed the macbook, unplugged the shuffle and the macbook sprang into life (while closed). When I opened it, I had the kernel panic screen and had to power it off.
I've updated the firmware to 1.0.1 this morning, hopefully that will stop it happening again.

  • Sloooow MacBook

    Hello fellow Mac users.
I am a newbie to Mac and have had my MacBook for about 6 months. It seems to be running VERY slow at present both in loading web pages, composing and sending Email (the text is freezing) and occasionally it takes ages to open a document. A Mac using friend tells me it could be a working memory issue. So far I have reset the cache in Safari, but it has made no difference to the speed of my MacBook. Does anyone have any ideas what could be going on before I call Apple support? Any assistance would be appreciated and I thank you in advance.
    Ciao - Debpwine

    Hi Sig,
When I say slow I mean that it is so slow that it occasionally times out. Most of the time I can click on a website, such as a newspaper site, go out, grab a drink and come back before it has finished loading. Accessing something like Google is pretty good, but anything beyond that takes up to a minute or more.
My Email is the most frustrating. The text freezing is the problem and the length of time it takes to send a simple message. Whilst typing the text can freeze several times during the space of a three to four line Email for around 20 seconds each time. It can also take between 1-3 minutes to send.
Same issue from time to time with pages or numbers. Just to open pages to start a fresh document can take a minute or more and the same for opening an existing document.
I will check my Internet speeds, but I am thinking that it would probably not have anything to do with the text freezing and the opening of applications.
I hope this is enough info for you. I will also look at updating to 10.6.3 too and see if it makes a difference.
    Many thanks.

  • Airport Express sloooow ethernet connection

Using an Airport Express base station as a wireless access port on my ethernet network. Configured the out of the box AE using the set up assistant over wireles form my laptop. Got the DHCP IP assigned in the reange of the router and made the connection. Email works but slow. Mounting a Google search page took 90 sec! Configuration: Netgear router with 8 port switch and T1 down service. Four of the router ports serve 4 locations of a business network. Second tier switches serve the puters in the 4 locations. The AE is ethernetted to one of these. So the path is: router-switch to distribution switch to AE wireless to laptop. Big problem pulling another cable direct from the router to the AE. Moving the AE to the router puts it 100 feet and 4 walls away, no bars on the rf signal strength indicator. Am I screwed or what?

  • Sloooow MacBook Air

My MacBook Air is slow. It is slow from start up. After entering the password at the login window it shows a beach ball. The screens do no open with a whoosh. They open staccato. First grey screen, then wait, then a window, then a wait, then sudden appearance of the desktop. I move the cursor to the bottom of the screen and I can count to 5 before the dock appears. Moving the cursor across the dock movements are jerky not smooth. Clicking on a window in the background does not immediately bring it to the front. There is a delay/wait for every click. I often can't tell whether the computer has registered my click until later. Scrolling is jerky and sometimes near impossible.
Upon somebody's recommendation I did an erase and re-install of the system, but the improvement was not overwhelming. But now I have virtually nothing on the computer, so obviously and overfilled disk is not the culprit. Re-installing took many hours. I tried re-installing the system. This was slow too. It took about 6 hours. I have tried most of the recommended maintance procedures: repairing permissions, safe-boot restart, SMC, etc. most several times.
I don't really understand the display of the activity monitor, but the CPU activity looks like a red wall. System activity is 85% even with nothing running. One "kernel_task" has a CPU% of 150+ (How can a single task take up more that 100% of CPU?).
Any help would be much appreciated. I'd really like to use this machine to actually do some useful work.
Machine is 1.86 GHz 2GB memory.
System is 10.7.4, but the problem already started when I was running 10.6.x

    Macintosh HD/Library/LaunchAgents
    -- is empty
    Macintosh HD/Library/LaunchDaemons
    -- has
    com.apple.remotepairtool.plist
    com.barebones.authd.plist
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents
-- this has several things related to my (former) use of syncing through MobileMe and also
    com.apple.FolderActions.enabled.plist
    com.apple.FolderActions.folder.plist
Can I just remove any/all of these? The MobileMe plists certainly seem superfluous now.

  • Sloooow file browsing....

    Hi all
Just got a new Mac Pro (YAY!)....
One thing kind of bugging me is how slow it is when displaying the contents of folders.
I keep my windows in columns view. When I click on a folder, there is a lag of 2 or 3 full seconds before the contents of the folder displays in the next column. This happens for every level of the folder contents and so file browsing is very slow and tedious.
It was not like this on my old Macbook under Tiger, and I am wondering if other people have this experience or if it is unique to my system.
Possible culprit.... I have my files on a 1TB drive, which I did not partition because I have been led to believe it is not necessary with new drive technology.
Running 10.5.2, 10GB ram, system and apps are running on a 320GB internal, files are on a 1TB internal, and 1TB internal for Time Machine.
Anyone have any thoughts that might be helpful?
    Thanks!!!!

  • Leopard on a Mac mini Core 2 duo 1.8  is unbearably sloooow...

Hi All/any one: I set up a sandbox/test server to check on Leopard before deploying it(Leopard) on a Dual G5 next fall. I set up a a standalone with a static IP so I can begin to experiment with it in my school environment. I have 4 grade-level groups total 320 accounts and each group has its own folder/share. I took the mini home with me to complete the work. Every time I complete a task (set permissions or preferences) in WorkGroup Mgr or Admin it takes several minutes to save. Last time I made or applied a global change to an entire group, I had to leave it overnight and in the morning it was still a spinning BB. Only AFP file services are set, no web services, TCP streaming etc. Any ideas as to what is causing this? Regards, J Langlois

    Hi Issac,
    Are the flashes asociatedwith beeps?
The following table lists the new tones and their meaning:
    Tone(s)          Description
1 tone, a 5-second pause, repeat          No RAM installed
3 successive tones, a 5-second pause, 3 successive tones          RAM does not pass data integrity check
1 long tone when holding down the power button          Firmware upgrade in process. See About firmware updates for Intel-based Macs for more details.
3 long tones, 3 short tones, 3 long tones          Firmware restoration from CD in process. See About the Firmware Restoration CD (Intel-based Macs) for more details.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2538
    Older meanings...
Can you count the beeps or flashes?
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.
