CS 5.5 on new i7: amazing editing, rendering & exporting, lousy indexing/conforming

I just had my machine upgraded to an i7 with 24GB of RAM and an SSD OS drive.
Overall performance of the app (and other apps) is fantastic, quite happy.
However, one aspect is quite mediocre: the performance while indexing and conforming files. Opening System Monitor, only one core is doing anything, with an overall processor committment of about 2-3%, and not much RAM in play.
As soon as I render or export, I hear the fans kick up, and all cores join the party.
The files are HDV. Card is a 570GTX.
What am I missing?? Is this standard behaviour?

After capturing HDV material, it needs to be indexed, and the audio conformed and PEK files created. Those are simple tasks for the CPU, but heavy on memory and especially on the disk I/O system. A lot of files need to be written and as we all know SSD's are not very good at writing. With only a single SSD you are creating a situation that resembles rush hour with a lot of traffic that needs to go from 6 lanes to use only a single lane on the highway. That creates huge traffic jams. Same in your system.
I agree with Jim and Bill that is your major bottleneck. Keep in mind that every system is only as fast as its weakest link allows, and in your case that is definitely the single SSD. You also mention:
the 2TB platter drive is yet to go in the machine.
Is that singular? If so, then get a couple more disks, you can never have enough of them and disks are usually the weakest link in a system setup. BTW, there are no 2 TB platter drives available, but that is a detail. You are talking about 4 platter drives with a capacity of 2 TB.

Premiere Pro CS3-CONSTANT Memory issues when editing/rendering/exporting

Alright, as said in the title I am currently using Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, and my issues are horrendous
No matter what, within 10 minutes of editing, Premiere will warn and then crash because of memory issues, starting with the message:
"Adobe Premiere Pro is running very low on system memory; please save your project and proceed with caution"
Also, whenever I try to export this project, within 800 frames of a 7000 frame project (currently), it displays the message:
"Error Compiling Movie", and then the previous message above if that hasn't already happened before
And eventually, the program will crash out of nowhere, with random windows errors
Here's my specs:
Intel i7 920 Processor
6 GB DDR3 RAM
Nvidia 480 GTX
750 watt power supply
24" Dell Ultrasharp Monitor
Now, I've noticed that whenever Premiere is getting close to crashing, my RAM gets up to around 4.7 GB being used, and then it crashes.
I have already gone into Edit-Preferences and tried switching from Performance to Memory; that hasn't fixed anything
I noticed that when I was just running my video over and over again, it stayed stable at 4 GB or so, so maybe its a rendering issue?
I have already tried lowering my number of processes running at any given time, including my antivirus program (Kaspersky) and even explorer, but it still crashes no matter what.

This is a SERIOUS issue for me, as even with all the normal crashes I could finish the video; but now I cannot even export my video at ALL without it crashing, and I have a plenty strong-enough computer to handle this, so what gives?

Ok, well this has been getting me nowhere
I tried importing (both my CTRL-X method, and literally importing the project), and now the program won't even RENDER the footage, it just errors out at 800 frames (just like exporting)
What is going on???
I used to use Premiere Pro 2.0 all the time, on a separate computer, but I have 6 GB of RAM, is this really impossible???

And now, even after finally getting it to render (by saving after rendering before what crashed, and then starting it up and rendering again), all my footage looks like crap XP

Just thought I'd add my solution, I decided to go with WebDAV and I think it actually works better than the iTunes way, the steps are pretty much the same but avoiding the iTunes interface just makes things easier and faster.
I followed this guide but it does have a small mistake in the httpd-dav.conf file, on line 2, where it's WebServer/WebDAV">, it should be <Directory "/Library/WebServer/WebDAV">.
The tricky part is setting permissions which if wrong will give you errors when connecting with the iPad, I opted to set all to Read&Write since my home network has a hardware firewall. Another convenience was to add an alias to the webdav share on the Desktop.
I'm still expecting the call from Apple but even if they fix the iTunes I'm sticking with WebDAV, atleast until I see what's new with iOS5 and iCloud this fall which should bring true sync for documents (I'm hoping that they will offer encryption with my own keys, if not, then I'll probably keep using WebDAV).

Please rephrase Your Question - I'm not clever enough to get it
There are lot's of Cameras that record in lot's of different ways that can be edited in iMovie.
No iMovie can not use all Video-Codec's in the World - they are zillions and many needs to be converted to something iMovie can open and work with.
• Still digital Cameras as Nikons - Import into iPhoto and then in iMovie Event's window import from iPhoto-videos title
• miniDV tape Cameras - connects only via FireWire - then just Import from Camera into Event's
• SD-Card or Hard Disk Cameras Connects most ofthen via USB and Import from "File or other"
• from Internet - (out of my range - Guessing) - most will need to be converted into something iMovie likes - I would try
- StreamingDV .dv - or -
- AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec)
So as You see - I don't get it !

Best way to edit in audio first for a news story type edit

Whats the best way to do a news story type edit?
I want to lay down audio narration ( voiceover track ). Next I want to add picture. I want to have some flexibility to edit and move around parts of the voiceover track. I will also want to be able to move the video clips around. What's the best way to do this?
Which method would you use? All ideas are welcome.
So far I hear:
1. Edit in a text track ( as a placeholder ) the length of the proposed narration
2. Add audio ( narration)
3. Add video clips
Additional questions:
A) When I add video clips, should I do cutaways? Which offers the greatest flexibility?
B) If I do use cutaways will I eventually be able to delete the original placeholder text track?

Try the following:
Simply delete all the Messenger apps (Yahoo, MSN or Live) which you might have upgraded recently / delete apps which were recently installed before the error which actually started occuring .
After that unplug the battery while the phone is still "on" and restart the phone.
In fact I had deleted a whole bunch of apps to facilitate my OS upgrade as I did not have enough memory on my Device.
This not only helped solve my above mentioned problem but also made my phone restart in less than 3 minutes (the earlier reboot was done in not less than 15 minutes !!).
Therefore my conclusion as from the above incidents is to keep your apps in the bare minimum so that your phone performs to the best.

Cannot add new selectors or edit existing CSS file with my Mac

I have just subscibed to Dreamweaver CC and I cannot add new selectors or edit the exisiting "main" css that comes with the tutorial. When asked to add selector a box appears but when I press enter/return twice it disappears. Also there is no option to edit existing properties. for example, to change a font color I pick color but there is no enter or "OK" option. I'm very puzzled and stuck.

The trial version of Dreamweaver is fully functional. The only limitation is that it stops working after 30 days. If you're having problems with getting the software to work correctly, it might be a good idea to try posting a question in the Downloading, Installing, Setting Up forum, mentioning the fact that you've already posted here (otherwise, they might just transfer you back to this or one of the other Dreamweaver forums).
If you can't make changes to files, it might have something to do with permissions or the user account that you've logged onto the computer with.
When asking for help in the other forum, mention your operating system, and which version you're using. The problem might be related to your computer setup.

Per my understanding, you might want to remove the link “new item or edit this list” of a list view web part using Client Object Model.
As there is no such property in
WebPart object can be used to hide/remove the link, I suggest you apply custom CSS style to the page which contains the list view
web part to hide it.

I have custom workflow and first step in the workflow is contribution step. I do not want my folio to go into default Contribution Step. I want my Folio to go into first step in my workflow. Is there any way to send new folio revision in custom contribution step?
Also CREATE_FOLIO_SNAPSHOT trigger email to Author of the Folio. I don't want to send email to Author while creating snapshot.
Is there any way where I can stop Email notification?

By using above i am getting my template FOLIO but when i am calling through code then its showing me the Error that {System Error: Unsuccessful attempt to find an unknown revision of '197'. Use 'latest' or 'latestReleased'}.

Yes, no matter whether I choose Native Packages or Zip, I get the same file to download. These are the options I am selecting for each:
1) Directory Server Enterprise Edition 6.x
2) 6.0
3) Compressed Archive (ZIP)
4) Solaris 10 SPARC
OR

I want to buy a new premiere elements to replace my old one (vrsn 3), can I upgrade it still or is it too old? Or should I still stick to Premiere elements?
Also, will the new premiere pro edit and save changes to avchd files from Panasonic and Canon without losing any quality?
I came across 'provides native support for avchd'; what does it mean? Does it mean that I can edit and save avchd files with out losing quality?
