CS 5.5 screen size - required vs. recommended

Hi -
I installed CS 5.5 Design Standard on my desktop, which has a 1440 x 900 monitor, and it works fine. I plan to buy a new Windows 7 laptop and want to install the software on that machine as well. I'd like to get a smaller 15.6-screen laptop, but they have a resolution of 1366 x 768. The bigger 17.3-screen laptops have a resolution of 1600 x 900.
The CS 5.5 Design Standard tech specs on the Adobe site say 1024 x 768 is required, but 1280 x 800 is recommended. So it sounds like I can get the smaller 15.6-screen laptop because that fits within the requirements. But the second dimension is just a tiny bit smaller than what Adobe recommends (768 vs. 800). Will CS 5.5 still work well on the 15.6 laptop? How will it be affected by the screen size?
By the way, the main function of my new laptop will not be to do intense graphics work. I'll mainly use Word and other Office programs, plus watch movies, use the web, etc. So while I will be using CS 5.5, it will not be my focus, so I'd hate to buy a bigger laptop for that purpose alone.
Thanks for whatever help or advice you can give.

Thanks, Manish_1988. I guess I'm wondering what I will be missing by having 768 instead of the recommended 800. Will some menus disappear off the bottom of the screen, or anything like that?
It's a scaling issue; there's no cropping.

    Hello,
Once I try to open 'full interface' on color finesse 3 on After Effects CS5.5, why do I get: "Color Finesse requires a minimum screen size of 1024x768" yet I've got two full HD screens?
    Thanks.

In addition to Dave's suggestions, if you haven't already done so, restart your computer. All we do is ask the OS for the screen size and check against 1024x768. We've seen on Windows that the OS gets confused sometimes and reports an incorrect size. Restarting fixes that.
When checking your screen size, be sure to subtract the size of the toolbar and any similar add-ons you might be running. Those all reduce the usable screen size, and we've seen cases (mostly laptops) where that reduces the height of the screen below 768.

  • Embedding and Screen Size Recommendations?

When embedding a Captivate movie in a course that uses PowerPoint/Artculate do you embed the Captivate in the slide as a Flash movie or do you have it open in a seperate browser window? And for each option what size do you recommend recording the Captivates?

    Use VitualHub instead. Works great.

    APDivs cannot be resized.
APDivs in primary layouts won't work in Responsive Web Design.
APDivs are a very poor layout method.
For this reason, Adobe removed APDivs from Dreamweaver CC.
Example of Fluid Grid Layout with floats & margins, no APDivs required.

  • Final Cut Studio 2: Requirements and Recommendations

Hello Final Cut Studio 2 Experts,
I'm considering purchasing Final Cut Studi 2, and to make sure that I'll benefit from the full range of specific application (FCS/motion/color...) and I'd like to ask few questions (5 main points) regarding requirements and recommendations. So, please be prepared for much reading as I am not an expert on the matter. I like to know if my computer accepts any further hardware parts highly recommended and if I can purchase and install them myself. And yes, you should also know that I intend to use a Panasonic multi-format (HD/SD) camera for capturing and exporting videos.
N.B. Please note that the full list of my Hardware contents appear at the bottom of this text.
THANKS IN ADVANCE for your expert advise!
    So, here we go:
    Application-Specific Requirements
    Final Cut Studio
Capturing HD resolution video using the ProRes 422 format requires a Mac Pro with an Intel Xeon processor or a G5 Quad computer and a qualified third-party capture card.
    1) Do I need an Intel Xeon processor? If yes, can I purchase and install the component by myself (like RAM)?
    Motion
The standard graphics card in any Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, iMac with Intel Core Duo, Power Mac G5, or iMac G5; 1.25GHz or faster PowerBook G4; or 1.25GHz or faster flat-panel iMac:
ATI Radeon 9800, 9700 Pro, 9600 XT, or 9600 Pro
ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 or 9600
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT, 7300 GT, 6600, 6600 LE, FX Go5200, or FX 5200 Ultra
For 16- and 32-bit rendering: a graphics card with at least 128MB of VRAM
    2) Do I need one of the ATI Radeon 9800, 9700... or ATI Mobility Radeon? Why does my Hardware contents say ATI Radeon 9600, and not ATI Mobility Radeon 9600, is there a difference?
    Color
The standard graphics card in any Mac Pro, 17-inch MacBook Pro, 24-inch iMac with Intel Core Duo, or 2.5GHz or faster Power Mac G5 Quad:
    ATI Mobility Radeon X1600
    ATI Radeon X1600
NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT, 7600 GT, 7300 GT, 6600, or Quadro FX 4500
A display with 1680-by-1050 resolution or higher
A three-button mouse for full functionality
    3) Do I need and ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 or ATI Radeon X1600?
    DVD Studio Pro
For playback of DVD Studio Pro 4-authored HD DVDs: a Macintosh computer with a PowerPC G5 or Intel Core Duo processor
For writing finished projects to disc: an Apple SuperDrive or other DVD recorder
For writing finished projects to a double-layer disc: a double-layer-compatible recorder and double-layer media
For transporting HD projects to a replicator: an external drive or Internet transfer of the project’s disk image
For transporting SD projects that contain copy-protection or dual-layer features to a replicator: a DLT drive, external drive, or Internet transfer of the project’s disk image
    4) Do I have an Intel Core Duo processor? Do I need an Apple SuperDrive?
    What is a "replicator"?
    Application-Specific Recommendations
    Motion
One of the following graphics cards is highly recommended:
ATI Radeon X1900 XT, X850 XT, X800 XT, or X1600
NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT, 6800 Ultra DDL, 6800 GT DDL, or Quadro FX 4500
For 32-bit rendering: a graphics card with 256MB of VRAM or more
    Color
The following graphics card is highly recommended:
    ATI Radeon X1900 XT
Dual displays with 1920-by-1200 or higher resolution
    5) Do I have one of the highly recommended cards ATI Radeon X1900 XT etc...? How do I get it and can I install it myself?

SORRY, BUT MY PREVIOUS POSTING DIDN'T HAVE THE FULL LIST OF HARDWARE CONTENTS of my Power Mac G5.

  • Screen Size reduced

Have just switched my Ipod on and have noticed the screen size has reduce all the way around the outside by about 2 or 3mm. It used to fill the complete LCD display. Anyone know why this is and how it can be fixed?

    hiya!
this is a longshot. by any chance, are the affected videos DV format videos that were converted using QT Pro? if so, perhaps check on this possibility:
QuickTime Pro: DV format movies may require adjustment for iPod
otherwise, it might be worth checking to see if it's all files that are showing up funny, or just some of them. the sample files and techniques in this document might be helpful with that:
Verifying iTunes video conversion and iPod video syncing using sample QuickTime files

  • TOC, streaming video and screen size

    Hello,
A recent project is shaping up to be a video based course.  The purpose of the project is to introduce and explain a sales software package.
    Before I start to work I need to ensure Captivate 7 can cover three basic requirements;
    1. The end user needs must have access to a table of contents so they can switch between slides/content and have the freedom to move about.  I know that Captivate 7 can accommodate this.
    2. To be able to embed streaming video.   It is important  that the video appears to be a part of the content and not open to a new window at anytime.  Also, the rewind and pause buttons for the video are controlled by Captivate 7 inbuilt buttons and not those of the video streaming host.
    3.  Ensure the screen size for the learning package is restricted to a specific size.  Reason being, some users will have desktop screens at 1920 x 1080 and this will "blur" the video content if stretched to that size.
Might Captivate 7 fulfill items two and 3?
Your feedback and thoughts are most appreciated!
    Sincere thanks

Hate to answer my own question, but I figured out a way to do what I want.
    1. open movie file in QT.
    2. Resize it and save.
    3. Open file with skin movie (see link in my orig post).
    4. then view < normal.
It basically fits it to the screen which is the exact dimensions of the movie. If I do not view<normal then the movie is offset I can not even see it. And resetting the offset does nothing.
If anyone has a better way (less steps) to get a borderless movie to resize and fit to screen, please let me know. This works but it is cumbersome.
    Thanks.

  • Disk size requirement

    Hello,
I'm planning the installation of an SDS. I don't find any reference to the disk size requirements in the documentation. Is the any recommendation ?
We will be managing Solaris Sparc 8,9, 10 as well as Soalris X64 and Linux RHES 3 and 4. Around 100 servers for the whole farm.
Could someone point me to some recommendation ?
    Best regards

For installing an SDS, here is the recommendation:
    Disk Space Requirements:
Installation: 512 MB minimum free in the file system that serves /usr/local
    Software Components: 500 MB minimum
    SWAP: 500 MB minimum

  • Creating app for multiple screen sizes?

Hello.  I've recently created an .apk file from Flash Professional using AS3 (probably obvious in this forum, but I wanted to be clear).  I've been testing it on an ASUS Android tablet.  However, I realized that even if I get the app to look fine on this tablet, there are other tablets out there with many different sizes that could have the app look weird.
I've been searching Google for tips on this, but a lot of it doesn't make sense.  Is there a pretty easy way to get your app to 'read' the tablet's dimensions and scale itself to those dimensions?  I know I could make a different file for each screen size, but wouldn't that require putting several different app files in the app store?  That seems silly.  Any tips?

first, you should check the scaleMode property of the stage which will allow you to specify how your stage is sized to fit the display.
then, you can use the stage's stageWidth and stageHeight properties to size and position your display elements, if that's needed (because with showall you probably won't need to do any sizing/positioning).

  • Can the Parameter Enter Value screen size be adjusted?

I have a report that will have up to 4 to 5+ different individual Parameters that will require the users to populate.
Since I am using a larger number of parameters the Enter Value screen size is small and not all of the parameters are displayed on one screen.   the users are required to scroll down in order to see and populate the other Parameter selections.
Is there a way to adjust the default size of the Parameter enter Value screen that the end users will see when using the Cyrstal Report Viewer?

Try Service Pack 3, if still not then it's likely the type of parameters you are using.
Bottom line is if there is no option to change the size of that window. I believe someone asked for this and I entered it in as an enhancement request. Some future version may eventually have the ability to auto-size.
At the top of this forum you'll see a Feature Request link, add your suggestion there, search first though in both of the links.
    Thank you
    Don

Perhaps an option to set the default font for discussion threads in the user preferences would be the best idea. One would think however that the Jive developers would have come up with something like that already.
    For what it's worth:
    http://www.w3.org/QA/Tips/font-size
Do not specify the font-size in pt, or other absolute length units for screen stylesheets. They render inconsistently across platforms and can't be resized by the User Agent (e.g browser). Keep the usage of such units for styling on media with fixed and known physical properties (e.g print).
Once again, I wonder about Jive development. Anyway, 10 pt is not best practice. It's standard for printed media, but not for screens. A search in Google shows that most recommend 16 pixels or more. Not sure what this is in points. I think 10 points is about 12 pixels, depending on screen dpi/ppi. I cannot imagine how tiny 10 pt must look on any of the high resolution Retina displays, which have twice or more density than conventional 72 dpi.

I am facing the some problems relating to screen sizes on iphone mobile. The ITS service and the templates were working fine at the desktop level..But, in iPhone, screen sizes are too small to view.We need to zoom it and enter.I have tried with screen format 16X20 and 16X20ITS.
Can any body provide the solution to fix the problem?
    Regards,
    Mahesh

You must have a very high resolution screen, also called HiDpi.
If you have Photoshop CC 2014, you can go to Edit > Preferences > Experimental Features and checkmark "Scale UI 200%"
If you have CC, CS6, or below, there is no way to scale the UI as of yet. There may not be. These products are no longer being updated.
At best I can recommend reducing the resolution down to around 1400 px horizontal. That's not the native resolution and defeats the purpose of having a Hidpi screen.
So only thing left aside from returning the laptop, is to work with a large external monitor, or for $10/monthly, join the Photography Plan and you can use CC 2014 and the 200% UI.

  • Air 15 known issues - wrong screen size and dpi

Will the next update of Air 15 solve the issues below..
the dpi problem with iPhone 6 plus is a show stopper,  i cant get away with delivering a reduced dpi
... under pressure to update 20+ applications  ...
    Known Issues AIR  15.0.0.183
[ iPhone 6 Plus] [Launch image] A blank screen observed in apps when Default-568h@2x is packaged.
[ iPhone 6 Plus] Wrong screen size and dpi is returned through the runtime APIs .
[ iPad 3 and later] iPhone Launch image(Default@2x. png ) appears on iPad if iPhone launch images are packaged along with iPad launch images
Well done to the Air team for the good work done so far, not easy keeping up with Apple on IOS8  at the moment...

I am having simliar issue where I can get the iphone 6 launch image to work but not the iphone 6+ when using [email protected], 2208x1242.  Also the stage.fullScreenWidth/Height give 1472x828, which is 2/3 the expected dimensions or 736x414 at scale factor 2, not 3.  I hope adobe fixes this soon or we won't be able to launch new games with Apple as it is a requirement to have your apps Iphone 6/6+ optimized.  If this isn't fixed soon were pretty much forced to abandon adobe and move onto another software solution that will allow us to build for Apple.

  • Screen size issues

    Hi it's me again
Another problem I am struggling to resolve at the moment is
the screen size on published files. For example, if I publish in
swf and link it to a menu the screen size is too big on that movie.
I have saved the movie as full screen (menu screen size is fine).
If, however, I save my movie as exe and attach it to the menu (full
screen option) the size of the screen is right, but I get a warning
message up first, entitled File Download - some files can harm your
computer...and then gives options to open, save, cancel or more
info. If you select open then the movie starts fine and the screen
size is perfect, but I don't want this warning message up each
    time.
Does anyone know what I can do to achieve the right screen
    size without the error message?
I've been hunched over this thing and my shoulders ache - I'm
off to get some red wine!
    Cheers
    Julesy A

Hi Julesy A and welcome to our community
Sounds like you are creating .EXE files and pushing those to
a server. When you do this, you will always receive the "Save file
to your hard drive or run from here?" dialog. There simply isn't a
    way around it.
What is the recorded size of your movie? Hopefully it is
smaller than your existing screen size. 1024x768 is typical for
Windows XP systems. It's best to avoid recording full screen.
Especially at that resolution. I always opt for the lowest common
denominator and my personal favorite size is 640x480. I find there
isn't much I can't display using this size.
Also, perhaps you are confused about what the "Full Screen"
option does for you when you publish. If you publish in .SWF
format, you have the option of including an HTML "companion page".
This page is intended to display your movie. If you choose the
"Full screen" option, you get TWO HTML pages. One you will link to.
Then when this page is displayed, your user will click a link that
opens the second in the "Full Screen" mode.
From what you have posted, I'm guessing your best bet is to
use the .SWF output. I also highly recommend using the HTML pages
    to display the .SWF content.
    Hope this helps... Rick

  • Best Adobe Captivate Screen Size for all Devices?

Which would you say is the best screen size to use to cater for all device types (pc, laptop, tablet, mobile, etc.)?
    Thanks.

    Hi there,
You can select any moderate screen size and publish the course and on the publish dialog box, check "Scalable HTML content" (only in case of .swf, HTML5 and PDF).
If you are not sure about which screen size to choose and you are creating a course for large audience for devices and systems of different resolution, then  800 X 600 is recommended.
But now, with scalable HTML content checked, your course window will fit to the screen size of the device, and there will not be any scroll bar.
    Thanks.
