CS 6 file now only opening in Cloud
Today, I "accidentally" opened a CS 6 project file in Cloud, and am now getting a "this project appears to be damaged, it cannot be opened" error message when I attempt to open it in CS 6 (I do understand this is a backwards compatibility issue, but in the past, I have been prompted to create a new CC version of a project with a _1 appended to the name, and today, it just seemed to "happen" without those dialogue boxes appearing). I could continue the project in Cloud, but the problem is, I need to share this file with another editor who only has CS 6. Is there a way I can get us back on the same page, without him needing to upgrade to Cloud?

How exactly are you trying to open the project in CS6? Are you double-clicking the project file? Or launching CS6 and using the Open Project command?
Nothing has changed in the way that CC and CC2014 operate when you load a project from an earlier version. That is, you should still be prompted to save the project to a new name (default "..._1"). I frequently test with old projects, and I'm always prompted to do the save-as. That's not to suggest that you haven't run into a problem that we don't know about but rather to just assure you that your current predicament is not the result of any intentional change in PPro's backward compatibility behavior.

HELP! My .ai file now only opens as a pdf!
Last week I finished my artwork and saved as usual as an .ai file. I checked it again a few days ago, made a few amendments, and it was fine. Today I tried to open it but a box I have never seen before seems to think my document is a pdf and I get the option to open either 'image' or 'pages'. I open pages and the artwork does not look such great resolution as it did previously. How did this happen? Anyone enlighten me. Many thanks.
OMG. Working too late, I tried to open it in Photoshop not AI. Ooops, nite niteDoes it respond the same way if you use File>Open from within Illustrator? If it opens as an illustrator file, try doing a SaveAs and save it in a new place. If the new file works correctly, throw away the other.

After reinstalling CS6 the bridge photo downloader isn't able to read raw files and fails to convert the raw files to DNG. Previously downloaded raw files, now DNG, open up successfully in Camera Raw 7. How do I get the photo downloader to read and convert raw files. MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard. No such problem before this reinstallation.
You should install Camera Raw 4.6.

As stated in my question I tried to open a manual I have on my desktop and it opened it Photoshop Elements edit page in a thumb nail format. I checked and all my desktop items will only open in the photoshop elements edit page. what do I need to do to correct this?
Now that we have your post in the correct forum, I have a few questions, please:
What is the file format of this "manual?"
What OS version are you running?
If this is Windows (a PC), then what is that file format associated with in File Types? It is likely that the particular format has been associated with PsE. If that is not what you want, the association can be changed from the Control Panel, to link it to the desired program.

Hello! I'm hoping someone can help me with a recent problem on my MacBook Pro. When I try to open a document from one of my files, it only seems to open in a small screen and I can't seem to make that screen any bigger to work on it. Has this happened to anyone else before? Oh, I wanted to add that trying to drag the little diagonal lines to the right of the page doesn't seem to work.

Why Do Preview Sidebars Now Only Open In Table of Contents View?
All of a sudden Preview's PDF Sidebars, which always used to open in “Thumbnails” view (which I prefer), only open in “Table of Contents View” (which I hate) when I open any PDF. How can I get Preview to always use the “Thumbnails” view like before without having to select it every time I open a document? There doesn't seem to be a way to set this in Preferences.
Maybe the LaunchServices plist is messed up. You might try this:
To reset all of your files to open with the original default application, you need to delete a certain file. Go to your user folder, and navigate into the Library folder then into the Preferences folder. Find the com.apple.LaunchServices.plist file, and drag it to the Trash. Alternatively, drag it to the Desktop if you think you might change your mind and want to put it back later.
Over time, you may find that the Open With menu gets cluttered with duplicates, older versions or applications you thought you deleted long ago. To get rid of these, you need to use Terminal. Open up Terminal (from Applications/Utilities) and paste the following line:
/System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServic es.framework/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
Press return and your Open With menu should have been cleaned up to only include the most current applications.

Moved file now only thumbnails
i-Photo 6.
Back in October, I moved my Pictures file over to my external hard drive to free up disc space on my PowerBook G4.
To replace this, I created a new file: Home/i-Photo Nov 05. Everything worked fine. I have had two or more updates since then.
However, a few days ago, after reading that the correct path should be:
Home/Pictures/iPhotoLibrary
I moved iPhoto Nov 05 back to to Home/Pictures/
Now, when I click Library or any folder in my iPhoto, all I get is a grey screen with dotted lines where the thumbnails should be with the slide number under each dotted rectangle.
I am tempted to move the file iPhoto Nov 05 out of Pictures/ and back to Home/iPhoto Nov 05 but I hesitate to do this in case I screw things up even more.

You can have your iPhoto in places other than the Pictures folder. Your problem is that you moved the library and you didn't tell iPhoto where you moved it.
Hold down the Option key while launching iPhoto and keep it held down until you get a message screen. In that screen, choose to open another library and navigate to your library, highlight it and then click "open"
Hopefully this will get your photos back. -
I moved a completed dvd file. now cannot open it to make more copies
I moved my competed files (dvd made with premier 9) and now want to open it, but it will not open. Even though I moved it back to the pc hard drive, it loads the clips, but with a red screen saying something about no media???

Premiere Elements project files (project.prel) have been known to failed to open for a variety of reasons, one being that the source media that went into them was moved, deleted, or renamed after the save/close of the project file (project.prel). In some cases, one of these media disconnected project.prel files may open but greet you with "Where is the file.....?" messages which you use for the reconnect. You may want to check out the Adobe document on troubleshooting damaged projects.

How did you do with the mini test troubleshooting that I suggested in the prior post
Do you have all the source media that went into the project? If so, move it to a hard drive save location. Remember where everything has been placed.
Open Premiere Elements project to be greeted by the "Where is the file.....?" messages (one after another). Indivdually use a message to browse to the file that the program it looking for and select it to reconnect the missing media. Repeat that for all the "Where is the file....?" messages.
Have you actually tried to open any of the older projects that you have treated in the same manner as this current one?
Just moving the saved closed project.prel file (project file) or even renaming it on the hard drive after the save close should not be creating problems with opening that saved/closed project. That is why I am focusing on your workflow and media disconnect. How are you trying to open the saved/closed project that will not open? If you start a new project and save/close/reopen it immediately without any relocation of the project file, does the saved/closed project re-open?
We will be watching for that screenshot to determine if we can spot important information in it to direct us in the troubleshooting.

In 10.4, an internet audio file now opens with Quicktime?

When I was using 10.3 (and before), when clicking on an audio file on the internet, RealPlayer 9 automatically opened.
One could see the % of the file being downloaded and then (quickly), one would automatically hear the audio clip.
Most often, I am talking about audio clips available on NPR (National Public Radio).
Since I have installed 10.4 (now at 10.4.3), when I click on the same audio file, now Quicktime opens instead. And then nothing happens. Quicktime opens, a Quicktime Player is seen, but I hear nothing and nothing tells me whether the audio file is being downloaded, is ready to be listened to, or anything.
With Quicktime 7, is RealPlayer now supposedly superfluous?

But think I need more step-by-step directions.
1. I have RealPlayer (9) already.
2. MIME settings in QuickTime Preference Pane. Set it to use RealPlayer for the Format .SMIL How?
3. In the QuickTime Preference Pane, there is a box for .SMIL, one box only, under "Miscellaneous." It IS unchecked already. But NPR still opens with QuickTime.
4. By "Change your Mac to use Real Player to open .SMIL files - ." I assume you mean, I will be on NPR, download a QT file and then try to change it to a RealPlayer file under "Get Info?"

I have a MacBook pro version 10.6.7 with snow leopard. After an scheduled software upgrade I could not open Quicken (It said it could not open the files). Now I can only open it if I have my external drive on. Can you help?
All the information that I had input on Quicken is gone. I have to have the external hard drive that I use to back up to be able to use quicken now. It is as if it was erased from the laptop hardriveTry repairing permissions. My favorite way is with a utility called AppleJack. Info and download here. It's free. It only works when you boot in Single User Mode. When restarting or booting, hold down the Command key and S keys.
You will get a very different startup screen that looks like the Terminal app has hijacked the screen. Just let the lines of text scroll by. When that happens you will get a text entry prompt. Type in "AppleJack" without the quotation marks.
A DOS looking menu will appear. Choose 1 or d to run Disk Repair. If you get a message that Disk Repair found and corrected errors, run it again. Repeat until you get the "your disk appears to be ok" message. This rarely happens with my experience, though. This does the same thing as as booting from an external drive and running Disk Utility's repair. Only, no external drive is required!
Next, choose 2 or p to repair disk permissions. This will take a little while. AppleJack warns that it will take up to an half hour to run repair permissions. It'n never taken more than about ten minutes for my MacBook Pro.
As permissions are repaired, you will see each repair scroll on the screen. When done, the menu returns, choose q to quit. Then at the prompt, enter "exit" without the quotes. Your MacBook Pro should restart into Mac OS normally after this.

I get a dialogue box asking "What should Firefox do with this file" Options open with or save file. My wife selected save file and now it only opens note pad and displays the text of the file to be saved. OK in windows Internet Explorer.

I can't export my video which contains only photos, sound tracks nor play it in fullscreen iMovie it shuts down. And now my whole file won't open at all it'll open with nothing inside ??
I also have Jolly's problem. I found the iMovie 9.0.9 folder and tried to launch the older version of iMove. It would not launch. I removed all of the iMovie preferences from the Preferences folder, removed iMove 10 from the applications folder, and restarted my Mac. iMove 9.0.9 still won't launch and I can't access my videos created with the older version of iMovie. Is there a way to uninstall iMovie 10 and reinstall iMovie 9.0.9?

I have just downloaded the latest "Office" update, and now my xls files only open in "Numbers". Can this be fixed?
You can try right clicking on one of your xls files select get info then select open with, select other then choose office excel and check the box to say always open this file type.

My AI program (CS5 Illustrator 15.1.0) will not open some PDFs. It was working just yesterday, but now will only open a PDF if the graphics of the PDF is visible in the box that appears in the lower left corner of the dialog box after you click Open. The file size does not seem to matter. Any ideas?
