CS: image brighter than in Explorer

hi all,
I noticed that when exporting image through "Save for Web", it looks a little brighter than when you see it in Explorer afterwards. Due to this now, when exporting, have to add some brightness always not to keep my pictures dimmer.
I use sRGB profiles always. Can you help pleas?
thnx

Are you using the Photoshop SDK, a programmer tool? If so, please
focus the question so the people here know how you are using it. If
you aren't using the Photoshop SDK, I recommend asking in the general
Photoshop (Windows or Mac) forum.

I have noticed that web page images display differently in Safari than in Explorer on a PC. On a PC, the web page may display three images side by side. In Safari, I might get two images side by side and the theid image below. Is there any correction for this? Thanks.

  • Images in CS4 are Brighter than LR 2.4

I'm using both CS4 and Lightroom 2.4 on a Mac with an external (calibrated) monitor. Images opened in CS4 are significantly brighter than the same ones in Lightroom. What could cause this?
    Thanks

There is a bug in CS4 that causes PS to use the wrong profile on external displays in certain circumstances. You can test whether this is the problem by disabling the OpenGL acceleration. To do this, go to Preferences->performance and disable the openGL checkbox. If this fixes it, check in the advanced checkbox whether color matching is enabled and if not, enable it and reenable openGL acceleration. This bug doesn't always show up and for some reason it has not been fixed yet even though Adobe is well aware of it.
Lastly, you indeed need to calibrate both your screens with a calibrator, but you already knew that I am sure. LUT based profiles have some minor issues (most notably shadow posterization) in Lightroom as the other poster noted but you are unlikely to notice it.

  • Image Brightness Changes When Authoring DVDs

    Hello,
To encode footage I export 720 24p footage from FCP as a Quicktime .mov using Microcosm then encode in Compressor using the standard Best Quality, 16:9, SD setting. The Quicktime .mov and the encoded .m2v file plays with the same image brightness and contrast as does the original footage in the FCP timeline, but once I author it in Studio Pro it consistenly looks lighter and consequently washed out when played back on the same monitor from the DVD. It also ends up looking lighter when played on a TV than programs from a typical rental DVD movie.
I set up my 23" Cine display carefully with with Apple's advanced profiling software, and images and color bars match footage displayed on my Sony PVM-14M that has been set up with color bars through a decklink card.
Can anyone offer advice about why this may be happening? So far my only fix is to arbitrarely change image brightness when encoding with Compressor. Is there some change I should be making in FCP to go from 720 24p HD footage to SD encodes?
    Thanks,
    Drew Harty
    G5 dual 1.8   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I have read on various forums that people are getting better encodes from HD footage by exporting to a Quicktime file before encoding. Several people have complained about the results exporting directly to Compressor. I take it you haven't found this to be a problem?

  • Screen Issues: Strip of extra brightness? Corners brighter than others?

I got my iMac back in August (just before the 24" came out, I'm kicking myself in the butt for it) and back then I noticed that the top-right corner and bottom-left corner were slightly brighter than the other two corners, but didn't think much of it. Now it seems to have gotten worse, and by worse I mean there's a kind of strip of brightness in the top-right corner.
Here's a contrast-enhanced image to show you what I mean:
    http://static.flickr.com/93/321933700051e2a84b9b.jpg
In the top-right corner, going down the side.
Here's another contrast-enhanced image to show you what I mean by two corners being brighter:
    http://static.flickr.com/97/321933701ddbae09dd6b.jpg
Should I bring it in? and if I do bring it in, what are the odds of losing my data? (I'm getting an external HD for xmas, I'm wondering if I should ask for it early and use it before sending it in or not)

Ok, I'm going to try and help you, but when I put a post explaining what this problem was, AS APPLE TOLD ME THEMSELVES, my post was removed. I then added a thread to another post trying to share what I'd been told, and that was removed. So I have low hopes for this attempt...
What you have is backlight leakage or backlight bleeding. it happens mainly when an LCD panel has not been properly sealed and the backlight escapes. If you can live with it, fine, but if you can't then I suggest going for a replacement or getting an engineer to fix it.

  • Lightroom brighter than nikon view

Windows Vista, lightroom 2.3, nikon d300 shooting raw images. Monitor calibrated using spyder3
If I open an image in nikon view and compare it to lightroom, the lightroom version is significantly brighter than the nikon view display even though the histograms look the same. When the full size view initially pops up in lightroom, it looks the same, but when it finishes rendering it, it suddenly jumps brighter. If I export the image from lightroom to a jpg and compare its histogram to the orginal in nikon view, the exported jpg histogram is significantly slid to the right and no longer matches the one lightroom (or nikon view) orginally displayed for the image. Color and tone seem pretty close. My question - is there some setting that lightroom is using that bumps up the brightness or is it just the difference in the programs? I love lightroom, but its display and the proofs it exports just aren't as good as I'm getting from nikon view

  • Preview Panel Appears Brighter than Loupe View In Develop Module

    Settings and Hardware:
    - Macintosh 15" Power Book G4
    - Lightroom Version 2.1
    - Attached Apple Cinema Display
    - Mac OSX 10.4.11
When viewing Lightroom on the PowerBook monitor all is well and the Preview Pane shows the same brightness value. Yet when the Lightroom interface is brought over to the Cinema Display the Preview pane in the Develop Module is significantly brighter than the main image in the Loupe View.
Any help with getting the value of the Preview Pane to the same brightness value of the Loupe view would be of help. Or if there is a simple explanation as to why this happens, that would also be appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Jarrod.

Monitors should be calibrated at around 120 cd/m2. This is usualy around 2/3 brightness for Cinema displays and around 4 to 5 clicks back from maximum on a mac book Pro. If you don't, you'll think all your prints are far too dark.
    >being a different luminance than the loupe view image on the same monitor
huh? I thought you were comparing between monitors?
Lightroom might not realize that you moved the entire interface to a different monitor and use the wrong profile or it forgets to use the different profile for the preview. This is very common even in managed apps. Lightroom does have a nice dual monitor interface now that uses the correct profiles for both monitors, but I don't think it likes the main window being dragged over.

  • JPEG is brighter than PSD

I am trialing PSE for Mac 8.  I have a photo that has a bright background, but the subjects of the photo (my family) are in shade.  In trying to "rescue" it, I brightened the entire photo so that the subjects look pretty good.  I then used the magic selection brush to brighten the faces of the subjects (this created a new layer).  Then I used the magic selection brush again to darken the now too-bright background.  The resulting file has three layers - the background, the layer to brighten the faces, and the layer that darkens the background.  The PSD looks OK (not great, but the picture wasn't much to work with anyway), and I saved it.  I then did a save as, and converted it to JPEG.
The strange thing is that when I look at the two photos (in Bridge), the JPEG is very noticeably brighter than the PSD.  It's almost as if the background darkening layer was ignored when the conversion to JPEG was done.  I tried re-doing the conversion - same result.  I made sure that all the layers were selected.  I even tried flattening the image and then saving as a JPEG - still too bright.  I am not sure whether in all this I tried quitting and restarting Elements, but I'll give that a try later today.
Has anyone ever seen this before?  Any suggestions on correcting it?

    James,
You state:"I even tried flattening the image and then saving as a JPEG "
I think that JPEG format requires flattening befoe one can save it.
What is the resolution of your file?
Has the JPEG file been saved, reopened, manipulated repeatedly? There is degradation of this compression format with serial interventions.

It depends upon the capabilities of your printer. If you have an HP printer with a photo tray then the Photo app will print to whatever size you load in to that tray.
    There's some more information here:
Using AirPrint to Print Various Photo Sizes
With other printers the user is given a choice from the printer's loaded paper sizes. You can see an example of that here:

  • Save for web color shift - only on images smaller than 150x150px

I'm getting a color shift only on small images (150x150px or smaller) when I save for web in Photoshop CC and CS6. That's very weird as it doesn't happen to images larger than 150x150px! That issue happens with images with different measurements as well (e.g. rectangle), the small looks dull and the larger display the right color.
My Color Settings are set to "Monitor Color". Under save for web I have the following options not ticked: Embed Color Profile and Convert to sRGB. (viget.com/inspire/the-mysterious-save-for-web-color-shift)
I'm running the OS X 10.8.4 on a macbook pro, I tested that on both, Safari 6.0.5 and FF.
The squares in the screenshot were saved exatly the same way. The largerer displays the right color #FFCB32, but the smaller displays the color wrong.
    I appreciate your help.

  • Why is the image brighter after converting H264 to Apple Prores 422 in Compressor ?

    Hello -
Very strange situation, keep reading please!
I am using Compressor to convert H264 1080p footage from a D600, to Apple Prores 422HQ for editing. Normal.
I am using the default Quicktime Settings named "Apple Prores 422 (HQ)".
The converted file is a bit brighter than the original... Why is this even possible! I find this a bit problematic because I'm loosing some details in the whites, at a way too early stage for signal alterationt!
So I tried different other stuff that you will find interesting:
    • changing gamma correction in the codec settings had no effect
    • I can see the change happening already in the Preview window
    • and this is the best one : if I apply a resize, to anything, like 1919 X 1079, or 1280 X 720... then the color change does not occur, even when exported! If I apply a resize to the same size, then the output is brighter again.
I am proof checking in Quicktime 7 of course, with "FCP compatibility" enabled and disabled.
I know this is a hot topic and there are many unsolved aberrations like this around this topic, but maybe there is something I don't get ?
    Thanks

Alex CVideo > I am so happy that you wrote about this
Yes: this is the exact problem. Very nice screencap, this is exaclty it (even if I said it 2 times now).
I have a little secret for you:
I read in another discussion saying that he had this problem too.
The only time I ever did in the entire Internet.
    here it is :
this guy re-installed her entire system
mac os + final cut systems
    and this time it worked.
Right now I prefer to convert to 1079p than risk this entire operation even it it worked 100% lol
    At least not right now
but maybe you will be boosted up enough to give it a try
Good luck to all of us  and thanks again to Apple for these great moments we spend together talking about their wonderful mysteries

  • Edge Animate CC 2014 issue with SVG - Images greater than 1024 x 1024

Hi, since i updated my Edge Animate CC for Edge Animate CC 2014 i have issues when i import .svg files. Edge told me "Images greater than 1024 may cause unexpected behavior on mobile device" when i import .svg files smaller than 1024 x 1024 ?
When i publish my animation i have a weird things happening and my image scaling default is 10% instead of 100% when i import. Someone had this issue ? Something we can do ? My images a less then 1024 x 1024 and work perfectly in Edge Animate CC 2.0

Ok. I've solved. I needed to load some things:
    EC.Parallax.setup (sym);
The full code (that works for me) is:
    -- compositionReady:
    EC.Parallax.setup(sym);
    // Load Edge Commons
    yepnope({
    load: [
    "http://cdn.edgecommons.org/an/1.1.0/js/min/EdgeCommons.js",
// Load style sheet for the overlay
    "http://cdn.edgecommons.org/an/1.1.0/css/style.css"
    -- click
// Open image in spotlight overlay
    // Set up configuration
    var config = {
    width: "1024",
    height: "768",
    type: "image",

    EC.Spotlight.open( config );
    I hope to serve others.

  • IDVD create disk image larger than DVD-R capacity

    Here's the background:
    - I made an iMovie 6 in 16:9 NTSC that is 1:32:00:06 long. I put that into iDVD 6, use the 5.0 Theme called "Wedding White", no slideshow, just a few photos and one 128k audio AAC file for menu music. Motion menu right now is about 5min45sec, but I can change that no problem.
    - In iDVD 6's "Project info", left hand column shows "NTSC", "Widescreen (16:9)", "Best Quality", "Single-Layer (SL) - 4.2GB"; all correct.
Right hand column - Project Duration is 97:47min, Motion Menus is 5:46 of 7:30, Tracks 1 of 99, Menus 3 of 99; all green.
"DVD Capacity" was shown as ~3.3GB before the burning.
    Here's the problem:
    - When I first burned directly onto a single-layer DVD-R, an error will come on during burning or multiplexing near the end. Disc will eject, and the disc IS PLAYABLE on all DVD players. Only problem is that the movie will end (or says "Disc scratched or dirty", then crashes DVD Player on my Mac) at around 1:30:50; about 1min 11sec short. iDVD will also hang, and need to be forced quit.
    - If I check that finished DVD-R with Disk Utility, it'll show:
    --Capacity 4.4GB (4,706,074,624)
    --Used 4.4GB (4,739,385,344)
    - Same results with two decent media, a Sony 16x and a Ritex G05 8x.
    - After reading a lot of posts in this discussion board, I tried two things:
    1. Clean up my primary HD, which was down to <10GB free. I realized that I need double the disk space to properly burn. Now, it's at around 30GB free.
    2. Instead of direct burn, I saved it as Disc Image. Results:
-- Video_TS file totally fine when played with DVD Player.
-- Disc Utility shows: Capacity 4,739,923,968 Bytes, Used 4,739,385,344 Bytes
But when I tried to burn that image onto a disc in Disk Utility, it says the media doesn't have enough room.
    3. I went back to iDVD 6's "Project Info", and the "DVD Capacity" bar is now filled, yellow and says "4.2GB of 4.2GB".
[I actually tried earlier with a slightly different version with longer motion menus, and a slightly longer movie. And the DVD it tried to burn is even larger, at 4,847,159,296 Bytes. Similar results, but that DVD will end about 4 minutes short. But I didn't write down all the iDVD 6 details that time.]
    SOOOOOO....
It seems to me that iDVD 6 is miscalculating its rendering or compression ratio, and is creating a final disc image larger than the capacity of a single-layer DVD-R, even though all parameters are set and displayed correctly.
For me, I'll cut down on the motion menu duration to see if that will help, as I'm right now JUST BARELY over the capacity.
Because of the early audio problem with iMovie/iDVD 6, this is the my first "finished" iDVD 6 product. Before, I have had no problem with movies that are close to the 120-minute limit, though this is the first time I use a 5.0 Theme with motion menus.
So, any ideas, any comments? Please post. Also, what else should I do besides posting here to let Apple and other users know of this problem? Thanks!

    G4 Gigabit Ethernet Dual 1.6GHz Mac OS X (10.4.5) Pioneer DVR-110D, 1.12G RAM

    An update:
I cut down the loop duration of the motion menus, from 5:46 to 2:50. The resulting disc image is down to 4.25GB (4,563,716,096 bytes) and will fit onto a single-layer DVD-R.
So, I finally made my first successful DVD using iDVD 6. Still don't know why this has been such an adventure compared to earlier iLife versions.

  • My InDesign program is printing my placed images lighter than illustrator.

I am trying to print a colour logo in Indesign with black type on my inkjet printer.  The colours are appearing fine on screen and so is the black but when I print everything is washed out.  I tried just printing a black box and it appears black on screen but in print it is grey.  I have tried changing the preferences Appearance of Black to rich and accurate but that did not make a difference.  Do I need to do anything in color management I am using Indesign CS2.  How can I solve this problem?

Acrobat worked, thanks for that advice.   I set my Convert to Profile under the Edit Menu to  Color
Match RGB.  That helped a little bit but it is not printing like the
pdf.  I would like to get this problem resolved. I normally use
illustrator most of my work.  But I would like to have InDesign working
properly as I need it to do other jobs.

    Jen,
This is a problem that you have no time to fool with, correct?
When printing from InDesign and all looks hopeless, export to PDF and print from the PDF.
    Why?
I don't know for sure but it seems all printers made recently accept PDF better than straight from InDesign. It could be the printer driver and it could be InDesign but you don't have time to mess with it now. Wait for some free time to sort it out, but for now output to PDF and print from Adobe Reader or Acrobat.

  • Page set up as an image rather than text: why?

I built my website using iWeb and added several of the same type of page. For some reason, 2 of the 6 pages appear as images rather than text. Seemingly search engines don't pick up the information on them in that case and since these are my two most important pages, I need to fix this. Can anyone tell me how to do this?
    Thanks.

I downloaded the software you suggested
What software was that? I didn't recommend any software in this topic. Are you referring to the software I suggested for adding "alt" titles to photos? That shouldn't have anything to do with text boxes getting converted to images. What type of page are you working with, welcome, photo, etc? Have you set iWeb's Texts preferences so that it will display this indicator when a text box is converted to an image:
Make sure the text boxes are not overlapping any other object on the page. Can you provide the URL so we can view the problem first hand?
