CS v1 under rosetta

will creative suite v1.1 or v1.3 run under rosetta?
I know cs2 will and fully planned to purchae it. After reading reviews it appears that most were not happy with the upgrades and consider the previous version to be superior and to run faster!
Kalel

Hmmm well I have heard cs3 might be coming before the end of the year, but that is still going to delay my project. I have an old copy of elements 2.0 for mac.
It's is pretty old and I'm not even sure where it is. Could I use this under rosetta in the mean time?
Photoshop is what I use 80% of the time so this may get me by for several months, although that may just be wishfu thinking.
Does anyone know i there is a definitive list of what will run under rosetta or is it just a try and fail process?

  • Endianness when running under Rosetta?

    Hi all,
I have a Carbon application which is reading binary data from a file's resource and then has to work with that data. I know the endianness of the data on disk so I used to do a byte-swap when necessary (after using ReadPartialResource() to get the data into my variable).
I dutifully converted all those unconditional byte-swaps to CFSwapInt32BigToHost() in order to make sure that things work correctly when running on an Intel machine (since the application is not universal, the app is running under Rosetta on Intel machines).
Today I tested the application on an iMac Intel CoreDuo (in my local Apple Store) - things worked just fine. However, even the old version with unconditional byte-swapping works correctly...
Does this mean the "Host" on in Intel machine is still big endian? Anybody can corroborate this or point me to documentation of this behaviour?
    Thanks,
    Andreas

    Hi,
to support the other posters intention: I would not need an emulator, if any code could be run between to processor types. If I have an emulator, it has to give a complete emulation of one processor another. If VirtualPC would have used BigEndians, no wndows would have ever started on those. So the other way round I assume that Rosetta will think Big (in Endianess).

  • Safari issues "fixed" running under Rosetta

I have found that unless you run Safari under Rosetta there are compatability problems with some sites. In particular, I was unable to load images of my old computer to that auction site when running native but it works fine if I run Safari under Rosetta. I read elsewhere in this forum that there are Flash issues as well.
I have reported this to Apple so let's hope we get a new version or an OS update soon!

    viking79,
Choose Get Info for the Safari app. Click the
    checkbox "Open using Rosetta."
    Jim R.
Is there a way I can make a shortcut for each method of opening Safari? So I could click one icon to launch it in Rosetta, and another to launch it native? Or it would be nice if I could just right click on the icon in the Dock and select Rosetta or native.
    Thanks

  • Scrolling lag in MS Word 2004 under rosetta

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has any tips to speeding up scrolling in MS Office 2004 under rosetta on an intel mac. In particular, word seems to lag, sometimes for a few seconds, sometimes it does this each time I scroll with the scroll wheel. If I click the mouse while it is lagging, it seems to come back to life and scrolls again.
I understand that rosetta isn't going to give me native performance, but I don't seem to have this lag in other PPC programs. Will rosetta performance be improved in Leopard? I really can't wait for Office 2008 to be released, I use Word every day for my work and it will make a huge difference to me!

    Hi,
I tried pulling out the margins all the way the the edge, but I'm still experiencing the problem. I also tried reducing the image size significantly with no success. Any suggestions?
I also tried deleting the image. With the image gone, the extra page goes, too. The page with the section break is still there but mysterious page #2 is gone. When I import the image again, though, I re-create the problem.
I just realized I didn't try the 'Use Printer metrics to layout document' that Paul suggested and might look into that.
Any other suggestions? I hesitate to do it because the document is somewhat elabourate, but I might try rebuilding the first few pages in a new document to see if I add the image first and then add the text if it will solve the problem.
One other question. When I reveal invisible formatting, it does show two paragraph marks in the footer. This is the same for all footers on every page in the entire document. Could that be causing the problem? If so, do you know if it is possible to delete only the footer on the first page?
One other clue: I used to have a graphic on the back page and now that I think of it, there was a blank page after it, too. It sure sounds like your tiling description...
    Thanks again for your help.

  • [Intel] Any list of Universal Binaries and apps running under Rosetta?

    Hi!
Sorry, I'm not sure about posting into the right group, but found no other place with similar threads...
I just try to figure out if all my apps will run under Rosetta or are available as Universal Binaries (and how much will the vendors charge for them). It's really a pain...
Do you folks know any web site or forum with a "Rosetta compatibility list" and an overview about available Universal Binaries?
I will not consider a change without e. g. a working backup solution (Retrospect), AppleWorks, EyeTV and a few other apps...

    Mike,
AppleWorks seems to work unter Rosetta (referring to

My greatest concern is Dantz' Retrospect and I haven't found a testing or even an information a Dantz' web site, yet.
But replacing my iBook with a MacBook wouldn't happen in the near future anyway...

  • InDesign under Rosetta

    Hello All,
I've had a moderately stress-free transition to my new iMac (a few probs with quicktime and an HP2600n printer). I installed Adobe CS 2 and everything seemed OK - PS and Illustrator so far seem fine and relatively snappy. Unfortunately I'm having a bit of trouble with InDesign.
When setting the default measurement in preferences to mm (or any other) the computer adds a ridiculous amount of decimal points to all measurements in the application.
For example if I add a text box and enter a width value of 3.5mm, InDesign changes it to 3.5005005005005003mm.
I've never had this issue in 4 years of everyday use
Could anyone with the CS Suite installed on an Intel Mac see if they can replicate this problem? I'd like to work out whether it's happening exclusively under Rosetta. I've checked the Adobe forums and there's nothing there so I'm hoping you guys could shed a little light.
    Many thanks

    iMac 20" 2GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Hi Dan,
Do you mean CS2's Version Cue pref pane? If so, I don't think it could be that as I was aware of the 'won't work' issues and purposely didn't install Version Cue. I don't think CS2 has any other preference panes. The problem is with all units of measurement and I've searched high and low for anything about decimal points etc.
With ref to CS2 in general, like I said earlier all appears fine so far (apart from Indesign). I was pleasantly surprised by photoshop and ran the radial blur test on the horse image in 59 seconds! It all seems quick at the mo but I have installed maximum RAM and my last Mac was a 1Ghz iMac!
I had a probelm printing to my hp2600n yesterday (it's driver was not in the list of supported printers). I reinstalled the driver this morning and it seems to be working OK. The hp2600 icon doesn't appear in the dock or in the list of printers but thats only a cosmetic thing. I've yet to try my scanner - it's about 5 years old so I'm not too confident. Hopefully I'll be able to use Vue Scan with it.
Please everyone let me know your CS2 feedback/issues
    Cheers

  • Error starting PhotoShop Elements 2 under Rosetta on 10.6

First, yes, I know that Elements 2 is quite old. But, I've been using it under Tiger on my PowerPC for years. I do plan to purchase CS 5 in the near future. But, for now, I'm using Elements 2.
Just installed Rosetta on my new iMac. I'd like to run Photoshop Elements 2. When I try to run it, I get some errors in my logs:
    +Apr 6 20:51:33 imacman /System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Versions/A/Support/LaunchCFMApp[452 8]: launch failed with error code -2857 (cfragCFragRsrcErr) for application /Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 2/Photoshop Elements 2.0/Contents/MacOS/Photoshop Elements 2.0+

So, who can decipher the above and explain what might be the problem.
    Thanks.

Unfortunately, Photoshop Elements 2 is not compatible with 10.6 (or 10.5, for that matter). You will need to upgrade to a later version for 10.6.

  • Graphics apps running under Rosetta

I'm VERY unhappy with the speed of Rosetta. Graphic apps like PhotoShop 7 run at 30% that they do on my G4 iBook.
I didn't buy a new Mac to run applications at one-third the speed.
AND.... I notice that even with 1G of RAM, running just two or three applications (like Mail and Safari) takes up almost all the RAM. Same apps running on my iBook leave a LOT of RAM.
Anyone else seeing terrible speed from the new iMac?
17" iBook Duo Core   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I believe that it is on option when you order to get 1x1GB chip or 2x512MB chips. If you got it from a local Apple store, it will be 2x512MB.
I re-read your post and didn't realize that you already had 1GB. I used Photoshop last night and think that I confused speed with GUI responsiveness. Doing processor intensive things like unsharpen mask did seem a bit slower, but not too bad.

Reboot your computer and immediately start a PPC application. Did it run?
If not try creating a new user account, restart and log immediately into that account. Now try running a PPC program. If it runs you know there's something in your user account causing the problem. If it doesn't you need to reinstall your MacOS.
If you rebooted and a PPC application didn't run or if the test above shows that the problem appears to be in your user account, run the Activity Monitor. Select All Processes and then look for a process called translated and force quit it. Now try running a PPC program. If this works then whenever you try to run a PPC program and it won't, repeat this step. Why? I dunno. But it seems to be an almost universal fix.

  • MS Office Under Rosetta on the MB 2 GHz

Anyone else find that scrolling down in the document freezes for a while and then suddenly jumps 10 to 15 seconds later?

Just for kicks I googled "large word document" and it came up with this link:
    http://www.cobar.org/group/display.cfm?GenID=3676
I downloaded the 522 page word document. It took about a minute to open all 522 pages but when it did I can scroll up and down WITHOUT any pause whatsoever.

  • How to force Pages 2.0.2 to run under Rosetta?

I browsed Apple's Support site and found this document:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303120
I can find the check box for Safari 2.0.4, but I don't have this box for my Pages 2.0.2.
I have also confirmed with System Profiler that my Pages is an Univerisal Application, not a Power PC or Intel.
    Any suggestion?
(I need it because my Fiery printer driver is not Universal Binary yet and I need to access some of the features).
MacPro, iMac (intel), PowerBook G4, iBook G4, MacMini Core Solo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi Joshua,
    Welcome to the forums!
I've not yet made the move to intel, so I can't check this out on my Mac. But while you wait for a driver update, you might want to check out the Gutenprint printer drivers for Mac:
    http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3
They are free, cover a very large range of printers, and may be able to run your Fiery (though it may not access all of its features).
    Hope this helps.

  • Does MacBook come with rosetta?

Hi tomorrow I am going into the City to buy my MacBook and I was wondering does the MacbBook come with rosetta?
From what ive heard it's inbuilt into the OS but I just thought id double check.
And I was wondering will Rosetta let me run Macromedia Flash and adobe photoshop 7.0 ??

If an application is written only for PowerPC, it will automatically open and run with Rosetta. You needn't make any changes.
There are a few anomalies that programs have hit under Rosetta, but they are few.
Here's a compatibility list, with problems and workarounds:

  • How to deactivate the rosetta option if it is not shown in information page

    Hi,
by accident or why ever I clicked the option "start with rosetta" on my eyetv.app. STRANGE now the option is no longer viewable in information field and I can't start the application inside of the application folder because I get then the message "EyeTV can't run under Rosetta-Emulation" please deactivate the Option via Menu Ablage and unmark the option. BUT I can't see this option in information field. AND if i try to start the eyetv.app in an folder outside of applications it works.
    Anyone an idea

    Hi,
thank you for the hint with command+i BUT THIS DOES NOT help of course, because I already wrote that I used this.
I solved it now in different way which leads to a general question that somewhere the osx seems to note versions of programs and how to open them.
Description of this issue now in detail:
    - I installed EyeTV in Version 3.0 on OSX 10.6 and started it.
    - a message appears that this program is not made for this OSX version (it was made for 10.5)
    - stupidly Elgato has no direct access to update from 3.0 to 3.1.2 which works with 10.6 WHICH means EyeTV has a buildin update BUT is useless if you can't start this app
    - OK this leads me to idea to enable the "Start with Rosetta option"
    - Didn't work
    - I took then an 3.1.2 Version from my TimeMachine Backup and copied it over the old ones
    - tried to start it and the message appear "This cannot run in Rosetta Mode"
    - HERE IT COMES the little option field where you can disable or enable Rosetta in the information of the eyetv 3.1.2 is not shown so I was unable to disable it of course
    - so i copied the file to a different directory and it works there normally
    - ..... AFTER 2 hours i remembered that I had set the "Start with Rosetta" option on version 3.0 and the Snow Leopard seems to have noted this somewhere and i need a trick to see this option and the only way is to use a version 3.0 file maybe the option will appear there again
    - ok copied Version 3.0 over the 3.1.2
    - AND AH the rosetta option appears and was enabled and I had here the possibility to disable or unmark it
    - then copy back the 3.1.2 Eyetv version file and AH it runs
So imagine that someone else uses today an application which really needs rosetta, and a user activates this and after some month a Snow Leopard 64bit version comes and nobody tells the user to deactivate the rosetta version on old package before installing new one.... poor user, I guess the 64bit version will tell the crap "This application can't run under rosetta" and the user will never find the way to disable it.
Hope there is a better way to find out for which application in which version was set the "start with rosetta" option in the system.
IF ANYONE KNOWS PLEASE let me know

  • Can't view WMP files in Safari on Intel machine unless in Rosetta??

I am trying to set up my parent's new Mac Mini w/ a core Solo Intel chip. They want to be able to view videos on CNN, but the only way i've been able to get them to work is by downloading the WM9 player, then launching Safari under Rosetta, which is noticably slower than if it were running natively. Is there any other way to get streamed WMP files to work on an Intel machine using Safari? Should I just get Firefox set up on their comp. for compatibility?

    Hi,
Windows Media Player and Flip4Mac are both PowerPC only at the moment, so yes you'll have to use Rosetta for the time being.
Windows Media Player never will be available for the Mac Intel platform (Microsoft no longer develop it) but Flip4Mac are working on porting their plugin 'sometime soon'.

  • Trying to open rosetta but not an option in menu

I'm trying to open black and white the game using rosetta as it is a power pc game and not intel.
I cant seem to find the option to use rosetta in the 'get info' menu. However i can find it for almost every other application.
What am i doing wrong? Is there a way around this?
    Thanks
    Moose

It is not possible to open rosetta. It is not an application as such but an operating environment to allow some older software to run that was not compiled for an Intel chip. Your game is most likely simply not going to play as most games will not run under rosetta. Games require dedicated resources and dedicated hardware and it it won't run without access to those resources. Black and White may have been written to take advantage of certain features built in to PPC chips, like AltiVec that simply do not exist on Intel chips and cannot be duplicated through a run time environment like rosetta. Most games need control of the video card, which is not going to be provided under rosetta.
If the game is that important you could always buy a used Power PC Mac on e-bay for almost nothing and use it to run the game but don't count on a game that old running under emulation, it just won't work.
