CS2 12.1 Won't open

I've trashed preferences, repaired permissions, tried opening with command-option-shift key and I still get the same "Could not complete the requested operation" at the very beginning of opening sequence. I don't move beyond five seconds of first splash screen!
Many thanks--Harry

Did you trash the Illustrator Preferences or the whole settings Folder it is important to trash the setting folder and not just the Preferences. If you did that already I would say a font possibility or font cache or database corruption or you may have to reinstall.
I was recently having problem with an application that did not allow me to use type at all.
So I deactivate everything except the system fonts and the reactivated them the fix the database and all is well. It was the first time I have ever used this approach and never heard of it used by anyone else so perhaps.
You will know right away if that is the issue since after deactivate if your first attempt at launching AI will be successful if it is still a problem then it is probably not a font issue.
By the way it was just the database and not a font.
Worth a try.

  • CS2 Reinstalled - Now Won't Open

Several weeks ago, iMac G5 crashed.  Reinstalled Mac OS (archive and install) and updated all the way back to 10.4.11.  Moved files from Previous System to new System.  Clearly didn't get 'em all moved.  Photoshop CS2 was a  little erratic, but it worked.  (Illustrator CS2 worked fine).
Several days ago, a handful of fonts totally disappeared from Suitcase Fusion, which, until then has been quite reliable.  (Fonts couldn't be found anywhere on computer.)  Suitcase Fusion support recommended reinstalling the application and then recreating Suitcase Fusion's Font Vault.  Successfully completed.
Then Photoshop wouldn't open.  Decided it was time to uninstall CS2 and reinstall it.  Followed Adobe's enclosed pdf of uninstall instructions.  Clearly didn't get me totally installed because the installation DVDs wouldn't allow the reinstall.  Detective work led to removing more obtuse files.  Ah-ha.  Now, CS2 DVDs would allow installation.  Installed successfully.  Ran all upgrades.
Now Photoshop and Illustrator won't open.  (I don't use InDesign or GoLive.  Haven't tried Acrobat.)  Both Photoshop and Illustrator go thru almost all their process of opening and then, just before opening should be complete, they crash.  In the "Report to Apple" window, both reveal almost the same problem:
    PHOTOSHOP
    Exception:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
    Codes:      KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0xbf7ffad0
    ILLUSTRATOR
    Exception:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
    Codes:      KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0xbf7ffaa0
Suggestions to get me back on track would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Bill

Thanks for the suggestions, but still no luck.
    1) Photoshop failed to open in an alternate user.  Same error message in the "Send to Apple" window.
    2) The machine is maxed out at 2GB RAM.  I've not opened the case in more than 6 months.  "About this Mac" says there's 2GB RAM.
A thought -- should I try to uninstall all of Photoshop and Illustrator again and then reinstall only these two applications?  (Acrobat and InDesign open just fine after the reinstall of a couple of days ago.  I didn't install GoLive b/c I don't use it.)
If yes, can someone point me to better instructions for uninstalling Photoshop and Illustrator than the incomplete information in the "How to Uninstall" on the first disc of the CS2 installation set?  As I wrote earlier, when I use these instructions several days ago, all the applications were grayed-out in the installer b/c components were still scattered about.  Using Spotlight, I searched for every single file that seemed to have something to do w/ the various CS2 applications, deleted those files, and then the installer showed the applications as active.  That's when I executed the reinstall that has only half the applications working.
My continued thanks for any guidance ...
    Bill

  • I upgraded my iMac OS to OS X Mavericks and now I my CS2 InDesign files won't open?

How can I access my old InDesign CS2 files after I upgraded to iMac OS X Mavericks operating system?

Yes thank you - I have done that and it worked - for one month while I have a free download. But I ultimately have to pay. I don't think it's fair to sell software, make it obsolete and then charge customers to upgrade.

  • CS2 Help Center Won't Open

All of a sudden I can't open the Photoshop Help Center. When I click on help, a tab appears in the bottom tray, yet, it opens nothing. Clicking on it produces no result. What am I missing here?
    Thanks! :-)

Right-click on the tab in the Task Bar and select "Restore" that should do it.

  • CR2 files won't open in Photoshop CS2

I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT and my Photoshop CS2 software won't open these images. CR2 is listed in the Raw file format but selecting Raw doesn't open them. I have downloaded the latest Raw update. I am using windows. Can anyone help me??? Many thanks, Patricia

If you have CS2 the latest version should be ACR 3.7.
ACR 4.x is only for CS3. If you download the 3.7 ACR and install it correctly ( be sure to follow the instructions precisely!) you should be OK.

  • CS3 InDesign won't open a CS2 In Design .INX file

CS3 InDesign won't open a CS2 In Design .INX file.
I sent my graphic designer an .INX file created on CS2
and he got an error message and said he could not open.
He said it is not possible.
He lost the job - because he didn't want to investigate further.
I can't imagine ADOBE leaving this problem unsolved!
    What do I do??

I don't recall that. I can visualise the situation, but then I would expect it to create the same lost feature problems as encountered in opening with an earlier version. So there would still be a risk that the file would lose something in translation.
And then again, if a CS2 plug-in has been used and is required to open the file, I would expect the translation into XML to ignore anything that can't be translated, and for the depleted file still to open in CS3.

  • .CR2 from canon G9 won't open with DNG converter or CS2

Hi I've tried opening .CR2 raw files fro a new Canon G9 with Adobe DNG converter but message says 'files won't open problem with parsing the file'
I downloaded both Camera raw 3.7 and 4.2 to use in CS2 but can't open them there either. Does anyone have any advice?
    Malci

Canon G9 RAW files will only be able to convert in the latest (and free) ACR 4.3 but ACR version 4.x only works in PSCS3
for CS2 the max version is ACR3.7.
    You have 2 options left:
1- upgrade your version to CS3, apart from being able to directly open the RAW in ACR you will benefit from a lot more options in ACR4 and CS3 that are worth the money.
2- use the DNG route, download the (free) DNG converter version 4.3 from the Adobe site.
convert the G9 RAW files to DNG and then open the files in the ACR 3.7 converter in CS2

  • How do I enable plug-ins for InDesign CS2 - files won't open

    How do I enable plug-ins for InDesign CS2 - files won't open.
    I own CS2.
    I shouldn't have to buy CS6 InDesign.
How do I open CS 2 files and get the plug ins again.

Asking the same question over and over will not change the answer.

  • Cannon Rebel XS EOS CR2 files won't open in CS6

My photoshop is completely up to date, my RAW plug-in is up to date, and I even attempted to download the DNG converter all to no avail. No matter what I try my CR2 images won't open in anything. My camera is listed as one of the supported cameras. I've tried everything I could find on the forums and on other searches but still cannot get my files to open in Photoshop. The worst part is that they were opening last week prior to my updating. Are there any suggestions as to what I can do to get this solved?

If you have CS2 the latest version should be ACR 3.7.
ACR 4.x is only for CS3. If you download the 3.7 ACR and install it correctly ( be sure to follow the instructions precisely!) you should be OK.

  • Photoshop CS 3 won't open Jpgs

I upgraded computers (now run leopard on a mac book) and therefore had to upgrade my Creative suite. Unfortunately, my Photoshop CS 3 is useless. Anything I create in it is, according to other programs considered an invalid file format that other systems won't be able to read and it considers all Jpegs that I try to open as invalid and gives me this message. "Cannot complete our request because an unknown or invalid JPEG marker type is found." Eve those created in CS2
Any other program can open these same files, just not Photshop CS3. I haven't touched preferences. Is there something in there that could be causing this? Does hte program just not work? If not, is there a way to get rid of it without getting rid of everything else and put Photoshop CS2 back on? I'm not the most computer literate but this seems a very bizarre issue to be having.
    Thanks,
    Sarah

    Hi Barbara!
Thanks for the patience; I did succeed in creating a new account/admin. user, but I'm not sufficiently schooled in Mac procedures to know how to install PE 3 from that account. I did (again) delete the two files and the PE 3 folder, and reinstalled the program with the same result - it still won't open.
As a matter of interest, after completing the foregoing steps, I found the MS Word (from Office:Mac 2004) would not open, so had to reinstall that program; that corrected that problem. Have no idea what the connection is - if any between the PE 3 and Word problems.

  • CS4 won't open TIFF with IBM PC Byte order

When our team tries to open images saved as TIFFs with a Byte order for IBM PC with Photoshop CS4, we get an error message that we do not have enough RAM to open the image.
We then opened the image on a machine running Photoshop CS2 with no problem, resaved the TIFF with a Macintosh Byte order and that seemed to fix the problem.
Is this a glitch that Adobe is aware of and will it be fixed in any upcoming updates?

I know of one bug like that, reading PackBits compressed images (the bug is very rare).
But if you could send me a copy of the file that won't open, I'll take a look and see if it might be a problem we don't know about.

  • Photoshop CS Won't Open

I have Photoshop CS and have been using it for a long time on this computer - and it has always been fine. I'm now trying to open it - and it basically won't open. The initialization takes forever (it was always long - but is REALLY long) and then I get a message that the application is not responding.
There is nothing new about the computer - no new hardware or software. And everything else runs fine.
I'm currently going through a procedure to see if I have a virus or some other kind of malware - but I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar experience - and if so, what the solution was.
Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Just found the answer to my problem. Getting rid of the twain files. Here's the link to the solution we found at another forum.
    http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7programs/thread/2ed659f5-8f3f-44d8-8a9d -a78f2abb7313
    Here is the answer:
So I've been looking at this for quite a few hours over the last few days and good news!  My thanks for your suggestions, but whilst trying multiple uninstalls of various software/services/drivers I noticed that when Photoshop fails to open it stopped at the same point.  Before clicking "Look for solution online" or "Close program" I noted down that it was at the TWAIN loading screen.  TWAIN is for scanners (took me a few moments before I remembered that).  A search for "CS3 TWAIN problem" gives a few results but about third on the list for me was:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/330/330344.html
This is a link to an Adobe tech note that explains the exact problem I was having.  Just in case the link stops working, here are the very simple steps:
    On Windows:
Go to Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Plug-Ins\Import-Export (Photoshop CS2), or Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Plug-Ins\Import-Export (Photoshop CS3).
Right-click the Twain_32.8BA file and choose Rename.
Add a tilde (~) in front of the name and press Enter.
Note that Photoshop will no longer talk direct to scanners, but to be honest who cares.  You can scan whatever you want using your scanning software and open the resulting image files in Photoshop.
I hope this helps others.  Plus GREAT news, CS3 really IS compatible with Windows 7.
    Good luck
    Larry

  • Project Won't Open!

    Hi all,
I've been working on a FCP project for the last week, however when I try and open up the file today FCP 6.0 freezes on 36% of the 'reading project' bar. Eventually it comes up with a message that says something like 'the file is newer than the current software version' - which I know is not the case.
In a possibly related issue Photoshop CS2 won't open today either.
A friend mentioned that the QT update to 7.4 has been causing problems, but I'm still running 7.3.1.
Does anyone have any other suggestions for the sudden cause of my problem?
System: Mac Book Pro 2.2GHz running Leopard 10.5.1
Any help here would be appreciated! I'm due to start a big project tomorrow!
    Thank you.

I'm having the same issue with 2 projects that I know of.
Both were originally created and finished in 5.1.4. I since upgraded to FCP 6 and had to go back work on those again. While working on those I upgraded to 6.0.1 to resolve some issues and everything went fine from there. I finished the work needed on those.
I've since upgraded my 2 systems (a MacPro and an Air) to Leopard and upgraded FCP to 6.0.2. the Air is using the original username and the MacPro is using a completely different username. I now need to work on one of those two projects again. We'll call that Proj1. I have the original 5.1.4 file and the newer 6.0.1 file. I cannot open either in 6.0.2 using the new username on the Mac Pro. If I login with the old username on the Mac Pro then Proj1 saved in 6.0.1 will open. Same results with Proj2 when I tested that. I took the project files to the Air that is using only the original username and they open fine.
Basically, it's a username issue and very annoying. How can I change the username of the project? I checked the sharing and permissions in the Info screen for all the project files and media and the new username does have read and write access for all of them. I've repaired permissions as well. Still no luck.
EDIT: I'd email the projects, but they're each over 100MB.
