CS2 Academic question

As a student, I purchased an "unregistered" academic version of CS2 from an eBay user. It works correctly and always has. I am considering upgrading as I am to start a website that may generate (pocketchange) revenue in the future, but it has come to my attention that my copy/licensing may not be considered exactly legal because it was not to be resold? Is this still true if the product was never/appears to have never been used before?

I don't suppose there's anyone here who can help you. Contact Adobe Customer Service and see what they can do for you.

  • Much more cumbersome than CS2, several questions

I just got back from a 10 day trip having shot about 2000 picutures and dowloading them to Aperture day by day. I had previously used Abobe CS2 but since I have a new Macbook Pro I decided to give Aperature a try. Now I'm not sure I won't regret the decision.
A few quick (I hope) questions.
If I just shot a jpeg instead of Raw+ jpeg for some pictues, doe sthis still show up in Aperture.
When I used to import to iPhoto I could go into Finder and locate either the Raw or JPEG or open the Raw in Adobe Bridge/camera raw. Now, the only thing I see in a Finder Window is an icon for the entire Aperature library. IS there no way to locate individual files?
I don't see anyway to locate the raw files except within Aperture. Does this eman I have no option to process the Raw in anything but Aperture?
While I was on the road, I did process one raw image. Now, the original shows up in the main window, the processed shows up in the thumnail, and I can't seem to bring the processed image back up in the main window. This seems very cumbersone compared to CS2.
    thanks for your help,

in short, yes. the Aperture library is actually a special folder called a bundle. the OS generally treats bundles as a single file, but actually it is a folder. if you right click on the Aperture library file and choose "Show Contents" it will open the file as a folder. in here you can see all the projects and XML files that make up the library. unless you really know what you're doing, i wouldn't mess with anything in here. the potential for corrupting your library is very, very high.

the easiest way to get your RAW files back out of the Aperture library for something like this is to select an image in Aperture and choose Export->Masters from the File menu. however, if you want to have the choice of editing RAW files with another editor, consider importing the files as referenced rather than managed (see the manual for an explaination of the difference).

Aperture lets you toggle between showing the master file (unprocessed RAW file) and the version (which is the file with all the adjustments applied). maybe what you were seeing was the master. showing the master could easily be done by accident as the 'M' key is what causes it to toggle. it would show a badge at the top center of the image with the word "Master" if you were viewing the master image though.
    good luck,

  • CS2 Upgrade Question

I recently installed CS2 on Windows 7 64-bit.  CS2 has Acrobat 7 Pro and I can't install the Adobe printer because its 64-bit.  From what I've read you need to have at least Acrobat 8.1 in order to install the printer on a 64-bit system.  So my question is, can I just buy the Acrobat 9 Pro upgrade or would I need to buy the full version?  I don't know if you can upgrade just one program from the suite.  I don't use the other programs enough to spend $600 to upgrade the whole suite.
    Thank you,
    Phil

You cannot upgrade individual components of the suite. You must upgrade the entire suite.
Be careful to choose the proper upgrade. The path from CS and CS2 is different from the path from CS3.
The CS/CS2 to CS4 Design Premium can be found here http://bit.ly/8j4Ngr
Whether you buy at Amazon or somewhere else make sure you buy from an authorized dealer, not ebay.
You should note that CS2 is unsupported completely in Vista and Win 7 and 64 bit makes it even more funky.

  • CS2 uninstall question

I am trying to uninstall CS2 in preparation for installing CS5 and the uninstall instructions say to: Double-click Activity Monitor.app in Applications/Utilities, select AHCRemind, and click Quit Process.
Only there is no AHCRemind process that I can find. Any ideas?
    Thanks

It becomes necessary if you start running out of drive space!!  However, it's more of an issue of getting rid of the excess 'stuff' that's not being used . . . trying to keep the computer more efficient . . .

  • Academic Question about Classes Method and Constructor

Given the similarity between the Constructor class and the Method class, why don't they have a common super class for the methods they have in common that are unique to them?

    I've found that the most common reason for invoking a constructor or method through reflection is because you don't know what you need until runtime, commonly because what you want can vary based on context, or is otherwise being specified external to the bit of code that uses reflection. Not true. The fact that I don't need it until runtime never means I don't know what I need.Never? Then your experiences with the reflection API have been different than mine. Either that or I wasn't very clear. Let's take Apache Commons BeanUtils;
It doesn't matter how you access a class. You can't use it unless
    1. You have a goal in mind
    2. That object in some way fulfills that goal.
    3. You know how that object fulfills that goal.
And as I already pointed out you can't use a JFrame for a JDBC driver. Simple as that. Nor can I create a new class that implements, for example, ProC (Oracle method to embed access into C code) using my own idiom despite that it provide database access. It MUST match what jdbc expects.
Sometimes it's not even clear before runtime whether a constructor's needed or a method.
I disagree. That isn't true in any OO language.Perhaps not out the box, but it can be true when using certain tools built from the OO language. Let me continue using the Spring framework as an example. It does not know whether to use a method or a constructor to instantiate any bean defined in the XML configuration metadata until that XML file is read and it determines whether or not a given bean definition has the "factory-method" attribute. The XML file in not read until runtime, therefore with any given bean defined therein, Spring does not know until runtime whether to use a constructor or method. Not apt at all.
As I already said those are two different idioms. Spring supports them because they are used to solve different problems not because they wish constructors didn't exist.
    >
The basis of OO is the "object". You can't have a method without the object in the conceptual OO model. (And in Smalltalk that is always true.)
True, but one may not always care how the "object" is provided. When the method [Properties.load(InputStream)|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/util/Properties.html#load%28java.io.InputStream%29] is called, it isn't going to care whether the InputStream argument was instantiated by one of the FileInputStream constructors, or if it came from a [URL.openStream()|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/net/URL.html#openStream%28%29] method call. It'll work with either regardless of their respective origins.
That of course has nothing to do with anything. Unless you are suggesting that construction in any form should not exist.
A factory is not a constructor.I'm not saying it is. I'm just pointing out a number of the similarities between the two.
So? There are many similarities between RMI and JDBC but that doesn't mean that they should be the same.
With your argument you can claim that construction doesn't exist because any method, regardless of intent, that uses 'new' would eliminate the need for construction. And that isn't what happens in OO languages.I wouldn't claim that construction doesn't exist in any OO language. But I do know that in ECMAScript construction exists on the basis of whether or not a method is called with the 'new' operator. So in ECMAScript a single method can also be a constructor.
And in C++ I can entirely circumvent the object construction process. Actually I can do that in JNI as well.
I would still be a bad idea.
    >
They are not interchangable.Normally, no, but with a high enough level of abstraction, they can become interchangeable. Again, the Spring framework is a great example. It doesn't care if a method or a constructor is used, and it won't know which one has been chosen until runtime. I don't even think Spring checks the return type of a method, so you could use a void return type method. (Although I don't know what that would buy you because the bean would always be set to null, but still...)
    No.
Based on that argument every possible programming problem could be solved by simply stating that one must implement the "doit()" method. One just need to generalize it enough.
Different APIs exist because there are in fact differences not because there are similarities.
Over generalization WILL lead to code that is hard to maintain. Actually generalization itself, even when done correctly, can lead to code that is actually more complex.
Because construction is substantially different than calling a method. In all OO languages.Yes, construction is different, but the actual call to a constructor and a method is only syntactically different with the presence of the 'new' operator. With reflection the difference is between calling Method.invoke() and Constructor.newInstance(), and, as I mentioned earlier, there's enough similarity between the two methods that they could be called by a single method specified by a common super class.Which does not alter the fact that the process of achieving the result is fundamentally different.

  • Purely Academic Question...or maybe not...

I was wondering if anyone knows how FCP chooses the order in which it displays clips in Browser bins set to Icon View. The inability to display subclip icons in chronological order--or any logical order, for that matter--has been a major thorn in my side for years. My workflow involves pulling huge numbers of subclips (and no, I don't intend to rename them all) from long captures into multiple bins. If I could just keep these clips sorted by their in-points (like I can in List View, with one click), I swear I'd be able to edit these boring industrials twice as fast. Anyway, I was just curious if anyone wanted to take a crack at deciphering the mystery of why this weird random ordering occurs (so that maybe I can develop a work-around!).
    Thanks,
    Zap
    Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 Mac OS X (10.3.6)
    Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 Mac OS X (10.3.6)

The default order is by Name. The only other automated option - if you control-click - is by Duration.
Otherwise, if you manually sort by dragging clips around, FCP will remember the order that you've placed the clips in for that Bin. For instance...
move clips around in Icon view
cycle back into List View and alter your sort parameter there
cycle back into Icon view. FCP remembers your sort order from the last time you where in Icon view.
Having said all that, I believe the best workaround for you is to show the Thumbnail column in your List view. In the off chance you've never done that, control-click on any column but Name, and select Show Thumbnail from the contextual menu.

  • Illustrator cs2 pathfinder question

I am trying to break up a shape based on the shape underneath it, but I want to keep the shape underneath intact.  The only way I've found to do this is to use pathfinder and select "divide" which deletes the portion of the bottom shape which is covered by the shape on top.  I want to keep the bottom shape in tact and just manipulate the top piece based on the bottom piece.  I hope this makes sense.  Thanks for all help.

    lurdolayne,
Copy the bottom shape and destroy the copy only. Some deeds can only be done by paying the highest price.

  • Yet another academic question - Latest Graphics Cards

For those of you with the latest towers and graphic cards -
Is there any option to effectively chroma/luma clamp the output from these ?
Or if not is there the ability to adjust values in a meaningful way ...
With nVidia software or with some third party application ?

ok - I've headed over to nVid's site and got this snippet
    "Video Color Correction
Corrects differences in color characteristics of RGB monitors and TV monitors and ensures videos are not too dark, overly bright, or washed out regardless of the video format or display.
    Integrated TV Output
    Provides world-class TV-out functionality (Composite/S-Video/Component) up to 1080i resolution."
Can anyone have a quick squiz in the nVidia app to see if the above can be got at or altered -
or is it a blanket, "We know better than you - so we have set it up to compensate for your own ineptitude."
    lol, no offense meant.
    cheers
    edit: What there ?
RGB's, gamma, luminance values - sorry don't have access to check it for myself. tia

  • Academic Question using HINTs

    Hi all
I have a stored procedure with the code below (this is an excerpt)
    create or replace procedure queryone
    as
    abench integer;
    bbench integer;
    begin
    select count(*) into abench from bench where kseq=2;
    select count(*) into bbench from bench where k100k=2;
    dbms_output.put_line (abench || ' KSEQ');
    dbms_output.put_line (bbench || ' K100k');
    end;
Now I have to use HINT as part of the assignment.
I know I have to use SELECT /*+ all_rows*/ from ....and this is where I get lost..
Am I on the right track? Do I put abench or bench after the from? I can't get either to work.
    Thanks so much

If you really have to use a hint:
    select /*+ all_rows */ count(*) into abench from bench where kseq = 2;

  • Asking the Bridge Team:  Bridge "working color space" setting when one does not have the Suite?

Common sense tells me there is really no such thing as a
"working color space" in Bridge, because
Bridge is not an image editor, just a browser
Therefore, this may turn out to be a purely academic question; but that doesn't keep my curiosity from forcing me to ask it anyway. ;)
Is there a way to set the Bridge
"color settings" when one does not have the suite?
The only Adobe program I keep up to date is Photoshop, so I've never had the suite. My version of Photoshop is 11 (CS4) and I run updated
(not upgraded) versions of Adobe Acrobat 7.x, Illustrator 10.x and InDesign 2.x. Consequently, the Synchronize color settings command is not available to me.
It seems to me that Bridge is behaving like a proper color-managed browser (e.g. Firefox with color management enabled), in that it displays tagged image files correctly and assumes sRGB for untagged image files. This normally works fine.
But what if I wanted Bridge to assume my
Photoshop color working space for untagged images
so that it behaves the same as Photoshop? I'm just curious, as I deal with a minuscule, practically negligible amount of untagged files.
My reason for bringing it up now is that I don't recall this being explicitly mentioned in forum replies when users inquire about color settings in Bridge. A recent post regarding Version Cue in the Photoshop Macintosh forum got me thinking about this. Just wanting to make sure that I'm right in my assumption that
there is really no such thing as a
"working color space" in Bridge, because Bridge is not an image editor, just a browser.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Ramón,
Thanks for sharing the outcome of your tests. However, I may have found a bug/exception to Bridge's colour management policy!
It appears that CMYK EPS photoshop files are not colour managed in Adobe Bridge, even if they contain an embedded ICC profile.
I've tried every combination in the EPS 'Save As' dialogue box, so it doesn't seem to be an issue with file encoding. Also, Bridge doesn't rely on the low-res preview that is held within the EPS itself.
My guess is that Bridge is previewing the CMYK EPS with a Bridge-generated RGB image, but it's being displayed as monitor RGB (assigned) rather than colour managed (converted to monitor RGB). For most users the difference will be barely perceptible, but the problem became very noticeable when using Bridge to preview Newsprint CMYK images on a wide-gamut monitor (images that should have appeared muted really leapt off the screen!).
How do I report this to the Colour Police at Adobe?!?

  • When I open a second Profile while another is running the second cannot access the Internet until I close the first. Why?

I often have occasions to run more than one Profile simultaneously (usually because of different add-ons I've installed on different Profiles). In the past this worked fine. Now, all of a sudden, if I open a second Profile while the first is running the second cannot access the Internet until I close the first. It keeps looking for a website, and failing, until the system "times out". If I close the first Profile, the second is then able to access the Internet.
Note: this is not a problem with opening a second Window in Firefox. As long as they are from the same Profile they will both work fine. Nor does this stop me from using a second Profile to look at website files I have saved to my computer. The only problem is that the second Profile cannot get on the Internet.

I just checked, the setting was for "Automatic proxy configuration URL", in the past it was set on "No Proxy". So I'll try changing that (and/or try other proxy options), and see if that solves the problem.
If it does, then just one (academic) question remains: why did that happen in the first place? I don't care what the answer is, so long as your suggestion solves the problem.
    Thanks.

  • How can I pass a docking container to a program in a non-simple context?

    Dear colleagues,
I want to pass a docking container like the one in SE80 to another program.
    The following code works fine:
    REPORT z_moving_dock.
DATA: cl_docker type REF TO cl_gui_docking_container.
    PARAMETERS: test.
    INITIALIZATION.
      CREATE OBJECT cl_docker EXPORTING no_autodef_progid_dynnr = 'X'.
    END-OF-SELECTION.
      WRITE:/ test.
But I cannot extend this to my current program. There I sourced out anything related to the GUI into a function group to obey the MVC paradigma. (That's maybe the error in reasoning, but I'm following the book Design Patterns in Object-Oriented ABAP from SAP Press and -- of course -- good and healthy programming style.)
So it's a function group which knows the dynpros and controls, the main program knows only the data.
Now I have a docking container like the one in SE80. We have many working older programs and I want to switch to them carrying the docking container with me. I have searched the Demos in SAP, the Online Help, the SAP Library, Books, the Web, this Forum, but none of them goes beyond the simpler examples that always work.
I tried the LINK method on the docking container. I tried it before calling the new program (btw. by SUBMIT). I tried it afterwards from the called program (via a function module from the aforementioned group -- but the group is tied to the old program context and therefore I am in a new "instance" of it). I tried different values for REPID and DYNNR in LINK. I debugged SE80 -- too complicated!
If it works well I get the container back when I return to the calling program. If it works badly the container is completely lost.
Perhaps I should export something to memory?
But I strongly would prefer not to alter the called programs: In the future I might also want to call a SAP standard program.
I also didn't find some documentation explaining what is going on in the background so I could figure out in which direction to "think".
I also tested the following code on SAP R/3 4.7 and SAP ERP 2005 with the same results.
In the meantime I also created a minimal example. First the triggering report:
    REPORT z_moving_docking_container.
DATA: g_example TYPE REF TO zcl_moving_docking_container.
    CREATE OBJECT g_example.
This obviously calls the main class ZCL_MOVING_DOCKING_CONTAINER which has only this constructor:
    METHOD constructor.
      CALL FUNCTION 'Z_SHOW_DYNPRO'.
    ENDMETHOD.
Normally this class should handle the business logic. Here it only calls this function module. In the appropriate function group, say Z_MOVING_DOCKING_CONTAINER, I have these declarations in the TOP-Include:
    FUNCTION-POOL z_moving_docking_container.
    DATA:
      gv_okcode TYPE ui_func,
      go_docker TYPE REF TO cl_gui_docking_container.
The function group also contains a dynpro 9000 with this flow logic:
    PROCESS BEFORE OUTPUT.
      MODULE status_9000.
    PROCESS AFTER INPUT.
      MODULE user_command_9000.
    The modules are straightforward:
    MODULE status_9000 OUTPUT.
      SET PF-STATUS '9000'.
      IF go_docker IS INITIAL.
        CREATE OBJECT go_docker
               EXPORTING no_autodef_progid_dynnr = 'X'.
      ENDIF.
    ENDMODULE.
with at least the function code ONLI defined in PF-status 9000 and
    MODULE user_command_9000 INPUT.
      IF gv_okcode = 'ONLI'.
        SUBMIT z_sample_report AND RETURN.
      ELSE.
        LEAVE PROGRAM.
      ENDIF.
    ENDMODULE.
The report Z_SAMPLE_REPORT can be any report you like.
At last the function module contains the following code:
    FUNCTION z_show_dynpro.
    *"*"Lokale Schnittstelle:
      CALL SCREEN 9000.
    ENDFUNCTION.
As I see this, this is a straightforward application of the working example at the top and the principles of MVC and encapsulation of the dynpro logic (to "avoid" global variables as best as possible).
Clearly in some sense this is an academic question, but I have built a fairly big application like that up to now ...

You'll either have to pass the data in as parameters in the applet tags or create a JavaScript tag and have the JavaScript pass it in. If the array is very large then you open a connection between the Applet and a servlet and pass the data that way.

  • Why does my TM/TC back up so much?

Before I refer this to AppleCare, I wonder if anyone on this forum can help?
I am waiting for AppleCare to call me back on another matter, but my excellent Level 2 geek is on hoiday so it may be a while before he comes back to me.
The reasons I am dealing with AppleCare, in case they are relevent to this current problem, are:  replaced optical drive, replaced video card, replaced LCD - all at 30 months old and all in the past 6 weeks!  Also, duplicated iCal/Calendar events and non-sync'd events between my iPad and iMac (now resolved, a corrupt version of iTunes) and more latterly a suspected corrupt partition map on the iMac as I cannot create a new partition.
But, on the assumption that those do not affect my Time Machine to Time Capsule transfers, here is my current problem ...
I run a 27" i7 1TB iMac with 16GB of RAM under MacOSX.6.8 and I have recently acquired at 2TB Time Capsule, to which I backed up my 669.45GB full HD via Ethernet.  I am now backing up the iMac wirlessly.
I have a G4 Tower and a G4 eMac, both running under MacOSX.4.11, on my network and they appear on my iMac's Desktop as networked devices.  I have an Alias to my HP DeskJet 840C printer which is connected to the eMac by wire and I have Chicken of the VNC as an Alias so that I can lazily control the two G4s from the comfort of my lounge should the rare need arise!
I run Stanford University's Folding@Home v7.1.52 24/7 and that is the only User process which, to the best of my knowledge, runs when the iMac is unattended.
I back up a 64GB iPad [3] via iTunes to the iMac from time to time, but there shouldn't be massive changes in that.
So why are my backups seemingly so large?
So large, in fact, that several take over an hour so that the default hourly backups are "late" and the iMac seems to be backing uop non-stop!
I have, in an attempt to stop cache files, etc, excluded from backing up (in case they changed so often that they might account for the number of files allegedly copied, if not the size) the following ...
    /Library/Caches
    ~/Library/Caches
    ~/Documents/Parallels
    ~/Library/Appliction Support/TechTool Protection
I have seen posts on this forum that advise excluding the Time Machine file and network disks from backing up, but when I go to TC Preferences, I cannot find them shown so I cannot exclude them.
Each back-up appears to be in two parts, as demonstrated by the following most recent log ...
    Starting standard backup

    Backup completed successfully.
    Ejected Time Machine disk image.
    Ejected Time Machine network volume.
... first it asked for 12.91GB and then 3.48GB - massively larger than i would expect for a machine left unattended all day.  It backed up less, but that's what it asked for.
And 44,382 and 34,176 files respectively?  Where on earth did they come from.  I'm aware, or think I am aware, that many seemingly single files are in fact a number os smaller files - but even so!
Recent sizes backed up, for which logs are still available, are (in GBs) ...
    96.55 + 4.62

    3.44 + 2.87
    3.44 + 2.84
Note the two of them at over 90GB!  What on earth are those?
I'm pretty sure that TC is an incremental back-up so I would have expected much much smaller files!
Anyone help whilst my excellent AppleCare contact is away will be very much appreciated!
    Thanks.

Thanks, Pondini, much food for thought on there and I will read it all in more detail later.
And what a veritable gem BackupLoupe is, Bob, and I am grateful for you pointing me toward it.  It has already given me some pointers and looks to be £3.29 very well spent.  I mention those pointers below.
I had, before seeing Pondini's post, looked at the BackupLoupe indeces on the very large 90+GB back-up and identified a Sparse Disk Image file of around 75GB as being the major component.  Quite why that changed I do not know as I cannot recall modifying the contents (I may have done, it is an archive file to which I add data from time to time, I just can't recall so doing in the last couple of days), but I have nevertheless now excluded it (and a few other unimportant dmg archive files) from future back-ups and I shall see if that helps.
I also have another sparse image file which contains approximately 35,000 jpg files amounting to 8.45GB.  This is currently "open" and mounted on the Desktop and is being accessed by the application Change Desktop (http://www.bergstrand.org/brian/software/ChangeDesktop/) which changes the desktop picture every "n" minutes using pictures from the mounted disk image.
I have not added or deleted any jpgs to or from that dmg for at least ten days, but it seems to be registering as changed from time to time and this, after reading Pondini's link, seems to account for the periodic "larger than usual" backups.  I wonder whether Change Desktop works in such a way that the content appears to be changing to TM?  I can't see how, as it merely reads files into RAM (I am assuming, I have no real idea of how it works) but it is an academic question, really, as that dmg is also now excluded.
All this is unproven theory so far, but there seems to be enough circumstantial evidence to at least point the finger of suspicion at these dmgs.  There are seven of them in total, amounting to 147.93GB, all in one archive folder in Documents and I have now excluded them all.
It seems to be working as the only TM/TC back-up to have executed since that exclusion runs as follows ...
    Starting standard backup
Attempting to mount network destination using URL: afp://Roy@Sue._afpovertcp._tcp.local/Data
Mounted network destination using URL: afp://Roy@Sue._afpovertcp._tcp.local/Data
    QUICKCHECK ONLY; FILESYSTEM CLEAN
Disk image /Volumes/Data-1/Roy’s iMac.sparsebundle mounted at: /Volumes/Time Machine Backups
Backing up to: /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb
No pre-backup thinning needed: 3.63 GB requested (including padding), 737.39 GB available
    Bulk setting Spotlight attributes failed.
Copied 44373 files (698.8 MB) from volume Grumpy.
No pre-backup thinning needed: 2.91 GB requested (including padding), 737.39 GB available
    Bulk setting Spotlight attributes failed.
Copied 34139 files (142.2 MB) from volume Grumpy.
Backup deletion was canceled by user
    Starting post-backup thinning
    Backup completed successfully.
    Ejected Time Machine disk image.
    Ejected Time Machine network volume.
The reason I cancelled the deletion, see the log, was because it seemd to be taking an absolute age to "finish up" and I was worried it might be hanging and I wanted to get this post done before calling it a day and retiring to bed.
Thanks for excellent advice, Bob and Pondini.  I shall investigate Pondini's link, etc. in due course as thre seems some excellent information there and I shall also look around BackupLoupe to see what other facilities it provides.
I shall report back when I have sufficient evidence to be sure my overly large back-ups are a thing of the past -but it's looking good right now!
Very many thanks for the most excellent advice, Guys.

  • Is there a way to prevent LR from reducing size (pixels) of files transfered to Photoshop as a psd file for editing?

The subject line says it all.  I have discovered that LR reduces the size of files transferred to Photoshop for further editing when compared to the same RAW file processed in ACR in Photoshop.  For example, a psd file created by LR from a 36 MB RAW file will typically result in a 100 MB psd file.  The same RAW file processed similarly in Photoshop will result in a file around 300 MB.  This makes a huge difference when the files are converted to JPEGs for printing.  The smaller LR psd files result in JPEGs typically under 500 KB where the Photoshop JPEGs are typically around 1.5 MB.

Whew!  I didn't think this would turn into such a long discussion!.     OK - my error,  spatial data not color.  But that is loosing focus on my question.  My objective is to get the best print possible from the final JPEG file used for printing..  As previously noted, for a given RAW file w/similar adjustments but with one processed in LR and the other in PS , a print made from the larger of two resulting JPEG files, the larger JPEG file resulting from only  PS ACR processing (i.e., no LR) will result in a better print.  Elie-d appears to have answered my basic question. If LR will always pass a 103 MB file then I assume there is no way to change this size.  In case anyone is interested here is some additional info for consideration.  Both LR & PS using 8 bit mode and 240 ppi..  Procedure in LR: 1) download RAW files from camera CD; 2) make adjustments to photo;  3) using Edit in External Processor, photo transferred to PS in PSD format, 8 bit. 4) file size around 100 MB (103 MB per elie-d).  Procedure in PS:  1) download RAW file to hard drive with Nikon View2; 2) open file in PS - auto opens in ACR; 3) apply essentially the same adjustments (e.g., exposure, highlight, shadow, etc) ) as applied in LR;  4) file opened in PS editor;  5) resulting PSD file size with no further processing (i.e., no layers, etc.) is 310 MB).  The resulting JPEG file created from the LR PSD is typically less than 200 KB whereas the JPEG from the PS PSD will generally be around 1.5 MB.   As an academic question it would still be interesting to know why one gets different size PSD files from LR and PS and what, if any, affect this has on print quality.  As for now I will not use LR to process RAW files.  I prefer the larger PSD & JPEG files I get using just PS
