CS2 and Leopard

Running on a G4 1.42daul, clean install of everything. InDesign is quitting sometimes on startup and sometimes on export to pdf. I have to fix permissions, toss prefs and restart to do anything, and it's getting progressively worse.
Any thoughts?

FWIW when I've discovered that it's something in my user account that's corrupted (twice so far in 5 years of using OSX); I've been able to fix it by forcing OS X to build new contents for my Library folder. For me it's a lot faster than migrating to a new account or wiping the drive or whatever.
It's the same end result because the only thing different between a one user account vs. another user account, as far as apps and the system are concerned, is the content of the user's Home > Library folder.
So I quit all my programs, make a new folder on my desktop called "Old library items" and drag the contents of Library over to it (but leave the original Library folder itself in its current location, now empty). Then I restart.
As you start programs, the apps or OS X recreate default settings and folders inside it as necessary.
Of course then you're forced to rebuild important things like Keychain; but since you still have the old contents you can test dragging it over to replace the default and see if everything's still working.
The last time this happened, I dragged out just my "suspect" folders from Library; like Fonts and Preferences; and tried that ... it fixed itself.

  • Camera raw CS2 and Leopard

I have been using CS2 with Leopard.I upgraded from CS online with a download to CS2. My hard drive crashed. I was sent a link via email thru Adobe to download CS2 again. When I downloaded/installed the program, when opening Bridge the message I got was"The Application could not load Adobe Camera Raw. Use the Adobe Bridge Installer to install the adobe camera raw plug-in. I have 3.7 in the place that Ramo'n mentioned and no where else. What am I doing wrong can it work with out having to go to a lower Operating system?

    Kellie,

That error message is incomprehensible. There is no independent "Bridge Installer" and Bridge has absolutely nothing to do with installing the Camera Raw plug.in.
I can't begin to imagine what would generate such a message error, ever.
I hope someone from the ACR Team responds to your post in this forum. The creator of both Photoshop and Camera Raw, Thomas Knoll, and one of the ACR Engineers, Eric Chan, are very active here, as is Jeff Schewe, who wrote THE book on Camera Raw.
I'm sure no one is ignoring you here, but, as I told you earlier, CS2 is not supported under Leopard. Basically, it it runs fine, if it doesn't, too bad.

  • Photoshop CS2 and Leopard

I recently upgraded to 10.5 (now 10.5.7), and I have the CS2 Creative Suite. My Illiustrator seems to work fine, but my Photoshop will not open. Any patches or solutions? I can fine CS3 help on Adobe.com, but none for CS2 regarding Illustrator.

CS2 is not supported in Leopard and never will be.
There are no patches, there will never be any patches.
CS2 is running in Rosetta another level of problems. Its time to upgrade.

  • GoLive CS2 and Leopard 10.5.5

Is anybody running Leopard 10.5.5 on a Mac Pro and using GoLive CS2?
I have to upgrade to Leopard and would like some feedback if there is any issues.
    Thanks,

There might be problems installing it though if you already have CS3 installed. General rule for other Adobe apps is that if you have CS3 installed and want to install CS2 apps you first need to de-activate and de-install CS3, then install CS2, then re-install cs3. my CS2 was already on the machine when CS3 came around and later Leopard, so am unsure if that implies for GoLive CS2 as well. It might as the adobe apps use some common files which can complicate installations.

  • CS2 and Leopard. Place image crashes program

I installed Leopard (latest updates) yesterday. Everything is playing nice except IDCS2 that crashes when I try to place an image into an existing CS2 doc..
So many of my clients are only CS2 compatible, so must work on their docs in CS2.
I accidentally posted this in another thread. Apologizing in advance.

Thanks all for the messages of doom ;-)
Trashed ID 4 prefs and now all is well.
Did clone my Tiger system just in case, but switch has so far been very good.
I did an archive and install, and made sure to run repair disk and permissions before installing new system.
Machine runs faster, even GoLive (CS2, not 9) is faster. Benefits have so far outweighed any negatives. Only had piddly stuff that was easy to fix.
Of course ID4 on Leopard is unsupported by Adobe. That would have been a given. LOL

  • CS2 and Snow Leopard ?

My mac (G5) is out of order. I am waiting for a mac pro 8 core. But I still work with Photoshop CS2 and can not today buy the CS5. Is the CS2 can run on Snow Leopard and on this mac pro ?
    Thanks

CS2 was only written for PPC. It will run on an Intel Mac through Rosetta emulation, possibly slower than it did on your G5.
This is a really good time to consider an upgrade to CS5, especially since you will not be able to upgrade to CS6 from CS2.  (or stick with PPC Macs to continue to run CS2)

  • Adobe CS2 and Snow Leopard  - do I have to buy CS4 to use SL?????

    That is RIDICULOUS!!!!
In order to use Snow Leopard I have to spend 1,000 in a new CS suite!!????
Adobe is in debt with all the CS, CS2 and CS3 users who can't install a new OS on their Macs
because there is no support for CS old Versions.
    Shame on you Adobe!!!
We demand a patch to solve this situation!!!
    Old CS users United!!!!

Have you yet complained to St. Steve of Cupertino that Apple does so little to maintain application compatibility when they release new versions of their operating systems?
It is a primary rule of operating system development and maintenance that you maintain full compatibility with existing applications and not break such compatibility just for the purpose of being "neat and cool, cool and neat."
If you are willing to spend time and $$$$ to upgrade your operating system to a new and incompatible version, you should be prepared to also spend money for versions of applications that had to be seriously rejiggered to work with these incompatibilities.
Adobe didn't break compatibility, Apple did. Complain to them!

    Hi,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when trying to open CS2.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS2 with Leopard?

Has anyone got experiences with Photoshop CS2 and or InDesign 2.0 and Leopard?
I know, if problems occur there will be no help from Adobe, but how bad might the problems be?
    Any experiences or advices?

I just started running into a new problem while trying to resize fonts in Photoshop CS2. When manually scaling up or down outside of the given size list (6, 8, 9, 10, etc.), the number input field seems to get a little confused and disregards your request. When hitting Enter, it applies a space. Sometimes if I click off and then back onto the input field, and then type my number in it will work about 50% of the time.
Oh yeah, and Photoshop simply crashes from time to time. It doesn't recall having the particular file open that you were just working on, so you essentially never really worked on it. At this point I'm just going to assume this is acceptable program behavior to both Adobe and Apple.

i upgraded to lion when it first came out but today i tried to open my photoshop cs2 and its telling me the powerpc applications are no longer supported is there any fix out there for this

Lion is Not compatible with PPC (Power PC) based software, such as your older version of PhotoShop.  Your choices are you can either upgrade to the newer version of PhotoShop, or you can backup your data and apps, erase your harddrive and reinstall Snow Leopard.
    Hope this helps

  • CS2 with Leopard?

I just received my new shiny 24" iMac to replace my old 20" one.
    I have been running CS2.
I understand that CS2 will not run on the new Mac OS, is that right?
I hate to have to go buy new software to do photo editing.  I use nothing in the CS2 suite other than Photoshop.
Hasn't Apple upgraded the OS yet so it works with older adobe products, like CS?>
Or vice-versa - hasn't Adobe upgraded their still used products like CS2 so it can operate on a new version of OS X?
I think it's been over a year now; more than enough time.
I do not want to pay for the full CS4 at this time.  I am thinknig of doing Photoshop Elements instead. What Photo Editing tools will I be missing in Elements that I'll have in PS? I won't be doing video, 3D, sound.

Your Milage may Vary and it depends a lot on what use you put photoshop to, but I've found that photoshop CS2 and Illustrator CS2 both run well enough for my purposes on my top of the range shiny new imac running the latest and greatest version of Leopard - using a Firewire 800 drive as a scratch disk, it copes perfectly well with the 8mb 20D RAW files I edit on it (and it's actually snappier for lots of purposes than the old G5 imac).
I'd point out that those bench tests linked to were with the 2006 models where the intels had similar amounts of memory and processing power to the G5/G4 units they were replacing. Now with 4Gb of memeory as standard and dual core intels (and with the top of the range imacs, reasonable graphics cards) things are a bit different running Rosetta - many of the old applications that aren't intel native run much better than I expected. (I've been using the new imac for over a month now so I've had plenty of experience)
My advice woud be to install CS2 and see how it goes for your uses. If it isn't fast enough then either upgrade or try Elements.  It's the pen tool and the ease of layer masking I'd miss in Elements - there are work arounds but they get cumbersome. (you could always use Elements for the stuff that can be slower like running filters and drop back to CS2 for things like the pen tool)

  • Photoshop CS and Leopard

I've read contradictory reports about CS and Leopard. I know Adobe wasn't going to do anything to improve compatibility, but there could have been issues with earlier versions of Leopard. So I'd like to bring this question up again. I gather that CS will "run," which is more than PS 7 will do, but are there any significant issues?
    Thanks.

I use File-->Open all the time, and it appears to work just fine for PhotoShop CS under Leopard.
The problem isn't so much that I **can't** use File-->Open, it's that I've routinely used File-->Browse over many years to quickly view thumbnails and file information of related shots (mostly jewelry photos for my wife's website).  So the risk of losing 30-60 minutes' work by absent-mindedly selecting a menu item that I've gotten in the habit of using is non-trivial...

Thanks for the info!  My first task will be reinstalling PhotoShop CS, but after that I'll definitely look into Onyx.

I'm aware that PhotoShop CS and CS2 are noted as having known incompatibilities with Leopard.  Not surprising:  they were both released before Leopard, so incompatibilities are to be expected.
I'm also aware that CS3 is no longer officially available.  Upgrading to CS4 would be problematic for a different reason though:  the system requirements state that it requires either a G5- or Intel-based Mac, and mine's a dual-G4.  So I either upgrade to CS3 -- which is compatible with both Leopard and a dual-G4 -- or I risk attempting an upgrade to CS4, which is not officially supported on my Mac and might not even install.

  • 10.5 with Adobe CS2 and epson 1280 - no printer dialogue box

I have recently upgraded from Tiger to Leopard and now when I run Photoshop CS2 and try to print on the Epson 1280, there is no choice for paper quality and other settings. It just prints and it is just awful.
I have the latest drivers installer (CUP and Guten).
I also have CS3 put that wouldn't work with any Epson printer and had to de-install it (year ago).

    John,
In photoshop, the triangle jut opened up the main parameters box. In there is a 'printer features' button this is where the media selection is. They changed the tags. Thanks for the help.
