CS2 and Vista

This has probably appeared here many times: CS2 Premium got installed on Dell+Vista, worked for some time, then suddenly quit opening, showing a message like "you don't have adm status, log as adm".
Well, I was logged as adm. Called Dell, no clue. Called Adobe: try uninstall and install: wouldn't install. Called Dell back, they told me to reinstate original Dell Vista that came with computer. Did that, still didn't install.
Called Adobe, they said, well, CS2 doesn't support Vista, no patch or update available. End of story.
Anyone knows any workaround here, short of installing XP on my computer just to run CS2?

32- or 64-bit Vista?
Lots of users have managed to get CS3 to run, and some CS2, but you need to provide full details about your OS and system.

  • Help CS2 and Vista

    Hi,
I’ve been running CS2 on Vista for about 4 years on my laptop with no problems. Last weekend  I got a Malware virus that had to be removed by McAfee. They made some changes to the Vista OS and also installed Service Pack 2 for Vista. Now CS2 won’t load- it asks me for an authorization code and asked that I activate by phone. The Adobe rep directed me to a support page on the Adobe website and to remove the .DAT files in the program licenses file. I tried this – no go. Also tried to run as administrator- no go.
When I looked thru my hard drive folders, I saw that I have adobe program licenses folders in TWO PLACES
    C:\ProgramData\Adobe Systems\Product licenses
    And
    C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\ProgramData\Adobe Systems\Product licenses
I’m guessing here, but It seems like McAfee uninstalled CS2 and then reinstalled it and tried to protect my license in a quarantined folder. In any case, the files in each of  the License folders are different. Should I try to move my “quarantined” files to their original folder? Would this be safe? Would this work?
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions here? I didn’t get much help from Adobe on this. They said that CS2 is too old to give phone tech support. ( even though I bought Photoshop CS5 extended and Lightroom to run on my home computer 2 months ago)
I really would like to get this back because without reinstalling from disc. I have customized many CS2 programs, brushes, actions, printer settings etc, that would be lost if I reinstall and from other forums, It seems that a lot of people are having problems installing from disc to Vista.
    Help!!!

My suggestion is to forget about CS2 and Vista and give serious thought to upgrading...NOW! CS2 is totally unsupported under Vista is the earliest version eligible for upgrade pricing. Why now? Because CS5.5 has already been announced and in the mean time you can get the CS2 to CS5 Design Premium upgrade for $768: http://amzn.to/ekY9fa. That will make you eligible for a free upgrade to CS5.5 when it ships in the next few weeks. http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/153/tn_15304.html
The CS2 to CS5.5 upgrade will cost about $200 more. By buying CS5 now you'll save that $200 and get a free upgrade as well as having a supported combination of software and operating system. You'll also keep yourself eligible for upgrade pricing for the foreseeable future.

  • Droplets with CS2 and Vista

Can anyone help? I'm having a little trouble with CS2 droplets. They work fine on one of my PCs with windows XP but when I try to use them on a machine with Vista a message comes up 'Photoshop CS2 has stopped working' This also happens when I double click on the droplet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

you mean that the droplet you made on XP doesn't work on Vista? in that case you have to drag the droplet over the Photoshop icon for it to update it

  • DEP error on CS2 in Vista

I've done some googling and troubleshooting but can't seem to find a fix for this. We've recently "upgraded" to Vista at work. We run Photoshop CS2 (with unfortunately no plans of upgrading in the very near future). Installation of CS2 appeared to be fine, but didn't seem to activate properly. I closed it out, made sure the old copy of CS2 was deactivated on our previous computer. When I reopened CS2 on Vista (64 bit), it asks me to register. Whatever I do with the registration fields doesn't seem to matter, photoshop immediately shuts down with the following Date Execution Prevention error:

A strange thing is that I can't even try uninstalling photoshop to try reinstalling. Trying to run Windows Installer on Photoshop brings up the same error.

I've gone into the DEP settings and manually set it to ignore photoshop and run it without DEP oversight, but it's made no difference.
I thought I'd read that CS2 generally ran fine in Vista (32bit or 64bit), but obviously it's not working here. Any thoughts?

With Vista you have to run the .exe file as Admin.
Also insure that in msconfig, that in the start up tab, Adobe CS2 Service Manager is checked. (least in CS4 it is called that so it should be the same or close to it.
Also if you google PS CS2 and Vista you will see that on a lot of systems there are issues running it.
Edit: also when you do get it up and running to update CS2 and also if you have video card driver problems to update those too.

  • Installing CS2 on Vista 64

After many struggles, I recommend the following...
    1) Install ALL Service Packs and updates for Microsoft Vista. If you read the details of those upgrades, many of them mention fixing compatibility issues with Adobe CS2 and other Adobe products.
    2) Activate the Vista Administrator account, and log in as the actual administrator. (instructions can be found all over the web)
    3) Create a Vista Restore Point
    4) Copy the CS2 discs to the desktop. Create a folder called CS2 on the desktop. copy the first disc into that folder, then copy the subsequent disks to the "Adobe Creative Suite 2.0" directory in the CS2 directory on your desktop.
    5) Right click on the Setup file in the "CS2\Adobe Creative Suite 2.0\" directory and choose Properties, Compatibility, Run in Compatibility Mode for XP SP2.
    6) Double Click on Setup.
    7) This is important - Install to "c:\programs\adobe" Do NOT install to "progra~2" or "Program Files" or this will cause you much grief later on.
8 ) Right click on the Vista Start Button and choose "Explore all Users" Brouse to the various Adobe Program Shortcuts then choose "Properties, Compatibility, Run in Compatibility Mode for XP SP2" for each program shortcut.
Installing the Macromedia programs was a similar process - especially the need to switch to compatibility mode for the setup file.
After far too many battles, this seems to be the best way to get the job done... I will update this posting if I find anything more to report.

I haven't deleted a prefs file in PS in years, where on earth is it in Vista 64? Googled lots of tutorials that refer to other PS versions, but 64 bit has a different file structure.
I can have 2 documents open in the same PS window, if one was created 4 days ago, I get the printer error message, if I simply focus on the newer file, it prints fine. That leads me to believe that the document itself is carrying print information. Wish there were a way around it, I have to actually take a screen capture and start again to get the old docs to print. Even making an new file and copying and pasting the work from the old problem file does not work. The new file will then exhibit the printer problem. Screen capture does work, its a small pain, I am working on low res stuff, so screen capture works ok for the moment.

  • Help missing for PS CS2 on Vista

I installed both Premiere Pro 2.0 and Photoshop CS2 on Vista. The Help files are available for Premiere Pro 2.0 but not available for Photoshop CS2. Tried all steps outlined in Adobe TechNote 319210 for cases when Help Center content is missing. However, none of these steps solved the problem. Help for Photoshop CS2 is still not listed in Help Center.
Thanks for any tips or directions on getting Help to work for Photoshop CS2 running on Vista.

Thanks for the replies. Tried the following, as suggested, but no success.
    1) Looked in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Help\en_US\ but no Photoshop or Premiere folder. There was an Adobe Reader folder with the Help.html however.
    2) Went to FAQs and followed steps provided in post there. Cleared the Help Preferences, then deleted the Cache, Database, Preferences, and Search folders under ...\AdobeHelpData\. Left the Packages folder with the Photoshop_9.0_en-us.zip and PremierePro_2.0_en-us.zip files, then double clicked the ahc.exe file. Help Center appeared but no indication that rebuilding was taking place, and the Help Center content was empty (not even Premiere Pro). I looked at the directory structure under ...\AdobeHelpData\ and Help Center did rebuild the folders previously deleted.
Restored folders under ..\AdobeHelpData\ to original status and executed Help Center again. As expected, Premiere Pro appeared in the content but not Photoshop CS2.
The product version of Help Center I am using on Vista is 2.1.212002.0.
Tried to reinstall Help Center (using download from Adobe), but installation was aborted. The error mesg only said that a problem occurred, but gave no details.
I do not think this is a Vista problem since Help Center works fine with Premiere Pro 2.0. However, not sure.
Is there anything else I can try?

  • Bridge CS2/PE4/Vista

I know this question has been answered before in this thread: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/402/kb402799.html
However, I tried Solution 1, but the registry folder specified is not there...
"Inside the Products folder, right-click on the D47ABDE8686099C4FBDD8F4976E82500 folder and choose Export."
    The folder is not there.
I cannot try Solution 2 as my other computer is having the same issue (with both CS2 and PE4 installed).
Any thoughts?  I am running Vista (unfortunately?).  Thanks in advance!

Nobody is answering as we don't know anything beyond the tech note you refer to.  Sorry.
Seems like there was a conflict between PE4 and CS3, don't know about CS2.  But might go to control panel and uninstall PE4 and see if CS2 will install and run.

  • Studio8 and vista ultimate64

I just bought a new laptop, but it came with vista ultimate
64-bit OS. I do not have any money for cs3 this year and would like
    to install cs2 and studio8.
Is this ok or a BAD idea?
Has anyone tried it and what happend?

While I can't speak to the whole suite since I only update
Photoshop on Windows and that is CS2, I can say that there are no
problems running it on the 64-bit edition of Windows. You will want
to run the installer as an administrator (right click and run as
    administrator).
Also be sure to get some updates from the web because there
was an update recently done for Photoshop CS2 that was not put
through the CS updates system for CS2, but it was for CS3. I don't
know if this is updated, but I remember I had to do that last one
manually. It could be changed now, but if it is not this is the
    file I am referring to:

CS2 is completely unsupported under Vista and 64 bits adds more problems.
Best advice is to upgrade. CS5 will be shipping soon.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Photoshop CS4 on the same system?

    Hi all,
I was wondering is it possible to have both Adobe Photoshop CS2 and CS4 on my computer at the same time.  I heard that this would cause errors, but if there is, is there a work around for it.  Thanks in advance.

Quite a few people keep an older version in case there is something not right for them in the newer version.
Just make sure they are installed in that order.
Be prepared to have your file associations changed.
What is you OS by the way?

I am using a Photoshop cs2, and I wonder if it is possible to keep the settings of the guidelines when closing an image, with the actual document ? It would be nice to have the guidelines locked down, I find it than when opening the same or another image, the guidelines are not locked, it is annoying to have to lock them down again. and it would actually be nice, to ba able to give specific directions when placing the guidelines. Thanks

Then why are the guides unlocked when I reopen a document that I saved with the guides locked ?
    Thanks.

  • I have Adobe Photoshop CS2 and it closes down every time I open it.

I have Adobe Photoshop CS2 and it closes down every time I open it with the following error: "Photoshop Quit Unexpectedly". Is there anything I can do to troubleshoot this?

The first question is have you used this version on this computer with the operating system you have now. The issue might be (if you are on a Mac) that CS2 was a Power PC application and you have upgraded to a new computer with an Intel processor. CS2 will not work on an Intel processor with system (I think) OSX.6 or greater.
If you have used this release on this computer with the same OS, than try deleting the preferences by holding down the Comand/Control-Option-Shift keys when starting the application. You will get a message asking if you want to delete the preferences, say yes.
Let me know if any of these work.

  • Saved Tiffs will not open in CS2 and generate a "Could not complete your request because of a program error".

this was supplied by Ann Shelbourne.
Saved Tiffs will not open in CS2 and generate a "Could not complete your request because of a program error".
These files will often open in Photoshop 7.0.1 or in CS1 but not in CS2.
The trouble may be caused by bad dates in the EXIF data and can originate from an incorrectly-programmed digital camera; or from a scan that was created after after Jan1 of this year (because of a known bug in some scanner software).
If someone runs into the "Could not complete your request because of a program error" problem, and does not have CS1, try opening the Tiff in TextEdit.
The EXIF data is right at the top. Check the EXIF data for bad creation dates and change any incorrect ones there.
Save and close; and then the file will probably open in CS2 without a murmur.

    > If iPhoto causes problems why not open the images from the Finder?
I get the error if I open a file from within iPhoto using "OPen in external editor" and then alter it (or do not alter it) and try to save it over itself, or save it anywhere else.
I get the error if I do "Show file" in iPhoto to see the file in the Finder. Then, if I double-click and it opens in PS, and then alter it (or do not alter it) and try to save it over itself, or save it anywhere else.
    > And with »save it anywhere« You indicate that You use the Save As-command?
    Right.

  • Windows XP Pro (32-bit) and Vista Ultimate (64-bit) on the same Mac Pro HD?

Has anyone been able to install both Windows XP Pro (32-bit) and Windows Vista Ultimate (64-bit) on the same dedicated Windows hard drive? I have four HD in my Mac Pro, and one of them is dedicated for Windows (and bootable via Boot Camp). I found the following technical articles about installing Windows XP & Vista on the same hard drive (using two separate partitions) using a VMWare machine as the test system:
    http://apcmag.com/howto_dual_boot_vista_and_xp_with_vista_installed_first__the_stepbystepguide.htm
    http://apcmag.com/howto_dualboot_vista_with_xp__stepbystep_guide_withscreenshots.htm
Has anyone successfully installed Windows XP (32-bit) and Vista 64-bit) on the same NTFS partition?
I already have Windows XP Pro (32-bit) SP3 installed on my single NTFS hard drive. I am looking for the best way to add the Vista 64-bit installation on the same hard drive.
Any thoughts and advise are appreciated.

Windows has its own list of boot OSs, and default, from msconfig. It will sit and wait for xx-seconds on startup in Windows if you want to boot from an alternate.
As to whether Apple's OS Switcher (aka startup disk bootcamp control panel or tray icon) sees both, I had Windows Home Premium and Ultimate 64, and pretty sure OS X saw both. That was pre-Leopard and before there were 64-bit Apple drivers.
I can't think of any scenerio of wanting to mix 32-bit and 64-bit on the same paritition, you realize you can't install the one over the other and must do a clean install.
When I added a partition out of main partition (I wanted to put search index and page file on their own partition) those partitions aren't seen - are hidden - to Leopard.
