CS2 camera raw plug-in no longer working

Issue description
Summary: I currently have CS2 installed on my Dell desktop. In September, I noticed that I could no longer open raw files and I looked on the Adobe site, found the plug-in, downloaded it and all was well.
Just the other day I went to use more raw files and this is the message that I'm receiving:
"Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document"
This is the same message that I had received in September before downloading the plug-in.
I have been back on the site, have downloaded the CS2 security update, the plug-in (as the number seemed to have changed from 3.5 to 3.7), and the DNG converter and nothing is working.
If anyone knows what I can do, I would be very grateful...

> Should I be looking for the earliest version of the plug-in and not the latest?
Of course not! That would be the ultimate nonsense.
You should be looking for the latest one that will run with your version of Photoshop: 2.4 for CS, 3.7 for CS2, 4.6 for CS3 and 5.2 for CS4.
Then look up in the tech note whether the camera is supported by the latest version of ACR that can run with your older version of ACR.
If you had been able to open raw files from a D300 in ACR it means you have to have had a Nikon plug-in installed, and it was the Nikon plug-in you were using without realizing it.
You will
NEVER
be able to open raw D300 files directly in CS2 and ACR 3.7. You must use the DNG Converter as Jim explains in #5 until you upgrade to the current version.
The capabilities of ACR 5.2, which only runs in CS4, are light years ahead of your ancient version 3.7. The upgrade to CS4 should be a no brainer for you.

  • Lightroom Camera Raw Plug-in won't work with Panasonic RW2

I've just upgraded to Lightroom 5.7 (from 4) essentially to access the RW2 RAW files from my new Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS50 (DMC-TZ70) as this camera is supposed to be supported by the camera raw plug-in (link).
Basically I got fed up of messing with the DNG converter and wanted inbuilt support for these files.
However having installed 5, upgraded to 5.7 (& rebooted) it still won’t read these RW2 files - the import tells me that the RW2 format is not supported.
According to the About info I've got Lightroom 5.7 and Camera Raw 8.7, installed. However I have download the camera raw plug-in 8.8 installer (link), copied it to the Lightroom directory and run it, but it's still saying Camera Raw 8.7 in the About screen and I still can’t access these files.
    What am I doing wrong?

The link you posted had all the details to indicate that your camera is not currently supported by any release of Lightroom. It is only currently supported by Camera Raw version 8.8 which is a plug-in that cannot be used by Lightroom (and only by Photoshop). Adobe's free DNG Converter can be used to convert your RW2 files to DNG which is supported by any Lightroom release. Download it here:
    Win: Adobe DNG Converter
    Mac: Adobe DNG Converter

  • PSE 8 - Camera Raw plug-in no longer loading

Hopefully someone has run into a similar problem and help set me straight.  The way I've usually been processing my RAW files (.CR2 from a 60D) is by opening them in the organizer (adding to the organizer, highlighting, then right clicking and clicking "edit with Photoshop Elements").  Usually this loads into the Camera Raw viewer, allowing me to do quick edits of White Balance, exposure, etc.  Today I tried to do this as I always do and instead of launching the Camera Raw viewer, it has been simply opening PSE 8 and opening each picture into sub-windows.  Not fun when I'm doing 50+ pics at a time.
Any help is appreciated!  I'm wondering if some setting was changed that is telling it to just open the files as regular instead of RAW files.

Have you changed your screen resolution?
What happens if you load the camera raw file using the elements editor; File>Open?

  • Camera RAW plug-in not working

    Hi,
I recently downloaded the Camera RAW 5.6 update for Elements 8 but even after following the instructions carefully and verfigying that the plug was added I cannot open a RAW file in photoshop. I am not sure what the problem and am hoping someone with more experience in this area can help me.
    Help?
    Thanks,
    Cara

Yes, we didn't start supporting the D3100 until the 6.3 version of the camera raw plug-in (Source: Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras). This version of the camera raw plug-in doesn't work with Photoshop Elements 8 (Source: Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications). In order to natively support the D3100, you'd need Photoshop Elements 9 or later (10 is the current version). The other option is to convert your raw NEF files to DNG (a universal raw format) by using the DNG Converter: Mac|Windows.

  • How can I download Camera Raw?  I bought CS2 a long time ago and it was upgraded to CS5 but I do not have Camera Raw plug in.  Thank you

How can I download Camera Raw?  I bought CS2 a long time ago and it was upgraded to CS5 but I do not have Camera Raw plug in.  Thank you

Which camera make and model are your Raw files from?
Camera Raw ships with Photoshop and is constantly upgraded by Adobe to keep up with new cameras as they are released to market.
It's likely that your camera requires a version of Camera Raw which is not compatible with your CS5. Or you may simply need to upgrade Camera Raw via Help > Updates in Photoshop.

  • Will new Camera Raw plug-ins run in CS2?

I am running Photoshop & Bridge CS2 and have recently upgraded from a Canon 20D to Canon 50D. Bridge & Protoshop will not open the RAW files. I have looked at previous discussion threads, and know that I need to update the Camera Raw plug-in, but I an not sure whether the latest Camera Raw plug-in is compatable with CS2 (the Adobe site keeps refering to CS4). Can the latest plug-ins be used with CS2?

    Nope.
The last version of the Camera Raw plug-in to work with CS2 is ACR 3.7.
You can, however, run the free, stand-alone Adobe DNGC Converter to convert raw files generated by cameras supported by the current ACR version to raw DNG files that can then be opened in ACR 3.7 hosted by CS2.
You always want to run the latest version of the Adobe DNG Converter, as it is totally independent from the version of ACR that works with CS2.
EDIT:  JJ types faster—and more succintly—than I do.

  • Camera Raw Plug-in for CS2

I have an iMac running OS 10.5 with Photoshop CS2... I am unable to open raw files produced on my Kodak pro14n camera. They are coded as ".DCR"files. I have been searching for days at the various adobe downloads/plug-ins sites and have downloaded several "Camera Raw" plugins, but still I can't open any raw files. I get the error--"Not the right type of document"..Wondering if someone knows of the appropriate plugin.or what I'm doing wrong.
    Thanks..

[EDITED this post. Please see next one.]
    Chris,
Support for that camera was added after CS2 had ceased to be supported by Adobe. That means that you will
never be able to open the raw files from that camera
    directly in CS2.
    You have two options:
    * Either update to Photoshop CS3 so you can run the current version of the Adobe Camera Raw plug-in (ACR 4.4.1 or ACR 4.5beta, neither og which runs under Photoshop CS2); or
    * download the latest free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter (version 4.4.1 or 4.5beta), to convert your files to raw DNG files that you can open in ACR 3.7 hosted by Photoshop CS2.

  • Is there currently a Camera Raw Plug-in for Photoshop CS for the Nikon d-600 ? tryed downloading version 7.3 but did not work

Is there currently a Camera raw plug in that supports the d-600 ? I tried downloading the 7.3 version and it didn't work !

You have photoshop cs (photoshop 8) circa 2003?
If so, which operating system are you using?
In addition to upgrading to photoshop cs6 or subscribing to the creative cloud, you can probably use the Adobe DNG Converter to convert your nikon D600 nefs to dng copies, which should then open in photoshop cs.
You need to have the 2.4 camera raw plugin for dngs to work in photoshop cs.

  • Camera RAW plug-in for Photoshop 8 Doesn't Work

I downloaded Camera RAW plug-in 5.6 following the instructions, for use with a Canon Rebel EOS xTi.  The file downloaded and was pasted in the proper folder ( C:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 8\File Formats\ ). And when the RAW file still didn't open I downloaded Camera RAW plug-in 6.2 and pasted in the same folder as above. When I couldn't access the plug-in from Photoshop Elements 8.0, I tried Help-Updates. I still can't access or open RAW files. How can I fix this problem?

Make sure you delete all previous versions of the 8bi file from the File Formats folder before you start.
Make sure you use the correct download link:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4810
Extract files from the download folder then drag or copy the new 8bi file into the File Formats folder.
You can confirm successful installation by opening Full Edit and clicking Help >>About Plug-in >>Camera Raw

  • Installer, application manager and camera raw plug in issues

    Hi - I need help.
I'm running on Windows 7. I have just upgraded Photoshop to CS5.5 from CS4 (on my laptop not a creative cloud version). I have since uninstalled Photoshop CS4. I was trying to install the camera raw plug in 6.7.1 but it would not install and I got a message saying that the application manager was damaged and to download it again. I have downloaded the application manager file but cannot install it. I am getting the "installer failed to initilize" message. I've read through the forums on this and cannot find a solution.
I have extracted the file so I am not trying to open a zip file. I have downloaded a second time to a different location and tried installing again while logged into creative cloud but got the same message. I saw the comment about deleting the Adobe/OOBE folder and trying again but was wary about doing this as I don't know what this folder is. Can someone tell me what this is and why I would delete it?
I don't think I had this issue before I uninstalled CS4. I think I had already downloaded a camera raw plug in for that version. So I am wondering if deleting CS4 caused the issue.
I then downloaded CS6 cloud version thinking that perhaps I would get application manager installed correctly within that. I have now been able to install the camera raw plug in and this is now working in CS5.5 but strangely still cannot run the setup.exe for the application manager (So perhaps it is just a problem with Installer?).
Can someone tell me if application manager is just relevant for cloud based products or is it required for desktop versions as well? Could creative cloud be interferring with my desktop version? Where can I find the application manager files? If I uninstall CS6 will I have the same problem with application manager not working in future? I do not really want to use a cloud based version (CS6) and don't want to keep unnecessary programs on my laptop.I signed up to Creative Cloud when both desktop and cloud versions were supported and may not continue when my subscription expires.
To fix this problem without CS6 do I need to reinstall CS5.5? (To do this I will have to reinstall CS4 as it was an upgrade version). Would just reinstalling CS4 fix the problem? Can I just reinstall the application manager part of either of these or is there a simpler solution?
Thanks in advance as I am not super tecchie and am running out of ideas.

    Hi
I have Creative Suite 5.5 Master Collection but have only installed Photoshop and Bridge ( this includes files associated with that install). Since installing that I have also installed Photoshop 6 (with Bridge etc).
The issue I had in Photoshop 5.5 was I was unable to read files from Canon EOS 5D Mark 2. I was trying to install the camera raw plug in 6.7.1 to fix this. I got a message saying that the application manager was damaged and to download it again. I downloaded the application manager file (adobe application manager 8) but couldn't install it. I got an "installer failed to initilize" message.
So I downloaded CS6 to see if that would fix the application manager issue. I have now been able to install the camera raw plug 6.7.1  and this is now working in CS5.5. So the initial problem is fixed for now but what I want to know is -
    - Is the Application Manager associated with the version or does it stand alone as a separate file?
    - If I now uninstall Photoshop 6 will the Application Manager uninstall also, or will it continue to work in 5.5?
    - What is the best way to uninstall version 6 - should I do this through Application Manager not Windows Control Panel? I cannot see where to do this.
The Adobe site says to start AAM by :
Choose Help > Updates in a Creative Suite 5 product.
    Double-click PDApp.exe in the following locations:  Windows 64 bit: \Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\OOBE\PDApp\core\
If I chose Help in Photoshop 5.5 - the update option is greyed out and not available.
If I follow the second option I get the Creative Cloud Application Manager (version 9) offering me updates for version Photoshop 6 only.
How can I find out if I have a working Application manager for 5.5?
What is the best way to uninstall version 6?
You are right I have found folders / files which need to be cleaned up from CS4 eg: plug ins and a lot of empty folders. What is the best way to clean up these - can I just delete them in Windows Explorer?
Sorry this is long - I am learning as I go

  • Outdated Camera Raw plug-in for CS5 Extended

As a long time user of ADOBE products, (Flash, Reader, Acrobat, Photodeluxe, and photoshop)  I was first introduced to PHOTODELUXE2 that came with a scanner. Got to like it, then over the years, I've had the opportunity to try out other PS titles like PS7, and the last version I have is the PS CS5 Extended, which I bought at a garage sale a few years ago.  Are these Photoshop programs only for the RICH AND FAMOUS?
I have cancer, and I am on disability, so for obvious reasons, and financially, I can not afford the $700.00 plus price tag for photoshop full licensed program. I have tried to open RAW photos from my Canon G6 Digital camera, but the plug-in needs to be updated. I also have a newer Canon SX50, that does have a RAW plug in, but that only works with this cameras photos, not my old CRW Images.
The G6 Raw plug-in was a 32-bit, that came with the Install Canon disc, but since changing my 32-bit OS to a WIN 7 64-bit, that plug-in no longer works, unless I get a hold of another XP 32Bit computer, and install it on that, which I do not wish to do,
Is there a third party Camera raw plugin that might open these G6 RAW files?  or do I have to buy the expensive full licensed program, which I can not afford? I have taken a photoshop Class at a local School, and received a 'Certificate of Completion", but as a student, I did not know at that time, that I could have got a discouted price for being a student, and looking back, it was still too expensive for me anyway, even at that price.
Since being diagnosed with cancer, I find myself at home all the time and enjoy editing photos for my self and family, I do not use this PS software for any financial gain, just self enjoyment, which takes my thoughts of having cancer away whenever I dabble.
I certainy appreciate the work that the Adobe developers go through, and I certainly do not want to take away from their livlihood buy using a product I bought for $15.00 for at a garage sale last year. But the CS6 Standard costs $700.00, or the CS6 Extended, at $1,000, what are my options?..I haven't won the lottery just yet.
i guess I'm looking for a Camera raw Plug-in to be able to open older CRW RAW Images. OR find a licensed PD CS5 Extended at a nominal price. Thank you for any help!  Sincerely, Jim

I think the G6 should be supported by camera raw in PS CS5.  You can download camera raw 6.7.1 -- the latest camera raw plugin for PS CS5 -- from  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates.html
Scroll down to Camera Raw, click on Windows then download the 6.7.1 update.  Direct link:  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Windows
PS CS5 usually installs both a 64-bit version and a 32-bit version on 64-bit systems.  You might look in your Win 7 program listing (Start key, then All Programs) where you should see both Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64-bit).  Your older 32-bit plugin that you used before might work with the 32-bit version of PS CS5.  Plugin would need to be installed in the 32-bit version only -- in C:\Program Files (x86).

  • Camera Raw Plug in for CS3

I still use CS3 because I am really fluent in it and can do all the things I need to... scared to upgrade:) My issue is that I just started shooting photos in RAW and cannot open them in Photoshop. I downloaded the camera raw plug in and followed the steps posted on the Adobe site but it still isn't working. Is it impossible for me to open the RAW files in CS3? I have a Canon Rebel T3i. Please help!!! Thank you!

Your version of Photoshop will not open T3i images directly.  Support wasn't added until Photoshop CS5.
Prior to the Creative Cloud Adobe stopped updating older versions to be able to read raw files from newer cameras whenever they released a new major version of Photoshop. The version you have is no longer receiving Camera Raw updates.
    You can check it yourself:
First you need to determine whether Adobe has released support for your new camera in your version of Photoshop. To do that, look at these two pages. You'll want to find out the earliest version of Camera Raw that can support your camera, then what version of Photoshop can run that version of Camera Raw.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
If you were to have found your camera is supported by your version of Photoshop, you would have needed to download the latest update for Camera Raw. There's more information on how to do that here:
    Keeping Photoshop Up-To-Date
However, since your version of Photoshop cannot support your camera, you can download and install the latest version of the free Adobe DNG Converter, which can take your raw files as input and put out DNG format files, which your version of Photoshop can open.
Photoshop Help | Digital Negative (DNG)
The DNG converter DOES work, but if you want maximal quality from your raw files (not to mention the convenience and ease of use of directly opening your raw files) you'll want the latest version of Photoshop. Adobe has made substantial improvements in raw conversion quality in recent years.

  • Problems with layers after Camera RAW plug in installed

    Hello all,
I am rather new to Photoshop, so please excuse what maybe an easy question, I have made a few images into black and white and added color to them in select parts.  Not to long ago I downloaded the new Camera RAW plug in to work on NEF pics.  Now I can not get the layers to work.  For some reason it is not allowing me to remove the black and white layer and bring out the color.  This is true in RAW-I get an Alpha Channel error if working in RAW or the brush will not work in the BW image saying it is not allowed on a layer?
What am I missing?  I am thinking there is something really basic that I can not figure out.  Any help is appreciated.
    Mike

The Camera Raw plug-in is part of the original default Photoshop installation.  If you downloaded a newer version, it should have replaced the original one.  Where did you install it?
Layered files have absolutely nothing to do with Camera Raw.
However, you have not given us details and your description of your problem is far from clear.  Please explain.
