CS2 - CS4 in 64 bit OS?

I want to step up to a 64 bit Operating system. I have CS2 and a CS4 upgrade and I install into XP 64 bit or Win 7 64 bit will the CS4 override the CS2 limitations? Apparently, from what I have read here and other places, CS2 is not compitable but if I load it then my CS4 upgrade will it run?

So, what you are telling me is that an upgrade disk, or at least CS4 this case, is actually a complete copy of the photoshop software and that Adobe controls access by serial numbers. This is a revelation for me, as I was unaware. Do other softwae upgrades work this way too or is it different from one manufacturer to another? Oh, and thanks, as my whole reason for changing to a 64 bit OS is to take advantage of more ram and NIK's HDR program will not run on my 32 bit XP.

  • Custom File Info Panel CS2- CS4

    I have a Custom File Info Panel that has been created in Adobe Photoshop CS2 and works in CS3.  I am having trouble figuring out how to get it to work in CS4.  Is there a way to port the Custom File Info Panel into CS4 without entirely recreating it?
    I am seeing references to FileInfo SDK and creating a new Flex UI but I can't seem to find a definitive method on this pre-CS4 File Info Panel to the new UI - and I am in unfamiliar territory.
    Any assistance or points in the proper direction would be most helpful.
    UPDATE:  Answering at least some of my own questions, I have followed the procedure here:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/gunar/2008/11/customizing_metadata_ui_in_cs4.html
    I am still having some trouble with a couple of the unique properties but I expect that they will be typos... I hope...
    Any good reference information is still welcome.

    Thank you for suggesting the PS Scripting forum but I think the next stop might be the XMP SDK Forum as there are a few similar questions there such as http://forums.adobe.com/thread/540397.  But before I go impolitely cross-posting...
    I've had some success and it appears that my custom file info metadata edited and saved in CS2 is now visible in CS4 and the reverse is also true - metadata edited and saved in CS4 is visible in CS2.  This was built using the Generic Panel from the SDK according to the instructions shown at the link in my original post.
    The only problem is that the external application that relies on the custom metadata doesn't see the CS4 version of the metadata.  I suspect that this is just some general namespace issue.  Perhaps if an XMP expert would be willing to comment on the conversion of the Custom Info Panel based on the following single portion of the metadata to see if I am doing it correctly - I would very much appreciate it.
    In the CS2 Custom Info Panel XML I have this field:
    <panel title="$$$/CustomPanels/XYZ/PanelName=XYZCorp Graphics MetaData" version="1" type="custom_panel">
      group(placement: place_row, spacing: gSpace, horizontal: align_fill, vertical: align_top, reverse: rtl_aware)
      static_text(name: '$$$/CustomPanels/XYZ/fullName=Full Name/Title of Graphic', font: font_big_right, vertical: align_center);
      cat_container_edit_text(xmp_ns_prefix: 'xyzcorp', xmp_namespace: 'xyzcorp', xmp_path: 'FullName', container_type: seq_struct, horizontal: align_fill);
      mru_popup(xmp_ns_prefix: 'twcable', xmp_path: 'FullName', no_check: true, vertical: align_top, container_type: seq_struct, mru_append: true);
      <!-- many more fields -->
    </panel>
    In my CS4 properties.xml the corresponding field:
    <xmp_definitions xmlns:ui="http://ns.adobe.com/xmp/fileinfo/ui/">
    <xmp_schema prefix="custom" namespace="xyzcorp" label="$$$/Custom/Schema/Label=XYZCorp Graphics MetaData" description="$$$/Custom/Schema/Description=CS4 Version of XYZCorp MetaData Custom Panel.">
        <!-- simple properties -->
       <xmp_property name="FullName" category="external" label="$$$/Custom/Property/FullName_Label=Full Name/Title of Graphic:" type="seq" element_type="text"/>
    <!-- many other properties -->
    <ui:separator/>
    </xmp_schema>
    </xmp_definitions>
    It seems that the following CS2 => CS4 translations should be true:
    "xmp_namespace" => xmp_schema namespace property (in this case "xyzcorp")
    "xmp_path" => xmp_property name property (for this one property, "FullName")
    is there another translation that I am missing?  I am betting it has something to do with the CS2 "xmp_ns_prefix" but I am not entirely sure how to map this.  Also perhaps something in manifest.xml (though it didn't seem like it)?
    Many thank you's to anyone that can offer words of wisdom.

  • Moving installation of InDesign CS2 to Vista 64-bit computer

    I've been running Adobe InDesign CS2 on my Windows XP laptop and yesterday I installed the program, instead, on my desktop computer which is running Vista 64-bit version. It has a much bigger screen, and I'm looking forward to using the computer for my desktop publishing work and reserving my laptop for my teaching work.
    When I try to load Adobe PDF presets, so that I can send a pdf to a client, I get mysterious messages about their not being accessible to me. The preset files are in the preset settings folder, under All Users. That folder is grayed out in File Explorer but permissions are set so that EVERYONE can use it.
    I disabled Windows User Accounts and Firewall.
    InDesign can't see the preset files; if  I scroll up from the folder the program begins to look for them (the folder with the document I have open), and get to Users, All Users does not appear at all.
    I'm at a loss of what to do. Any ideas, anyone?
    --D

    You are in completely unsupported territory. While some users have been successful, no CS2 software is Vista certified or supported in a 64 bit environment. This is especially true for all versions of Acrobat prior to 8.1.
    I strongly suggest upgrading to CS4.

  • CS2 & CS4 Extended on the same system

    I have downloaded the CS4 Extended Trial but did not uninstall CS2 before doing so. Can these both exist on the same system without issues?
    Thanks!

    Yes. I have Photoshop 2.5.1, PS 6, PS 7, CS, CS2, CS3, CS4 all playing nice together on the same machine.

  • PS CS4 and 64 bit Win7, RAW problem???  Help!

    My old system up and died last week, so I ended up with a new computer.  I have the fastest AMD Phenom processor, 4mg fast RAM, an ATI video card with 1mg RAM, and a complete new install of Windows 7 64-Bit.  I installed PS Elements 8 and PS CS4 this morning.  PSE8 went on without a glitch and seems to work perfect in RAW.  CS4 had a couple of install errors, but installed saying that "a few features" may only work partly   I downloaded PSE8 from a disk and CS4 from the Adobe site, and I am  fully licensed for both programs.  I down loaded new photos (same ones) to both programs (RAW only) and PSE8 opened all of them perfectly with full controls.  When I opened BRIDGE in PS CS4, all of my thumbnails were an icon files that said NEF but no actual pictures like PSE8.  When I tried to open them in RAW they would not open.  Any ideas out there?  I am not sure where to start looking.  I tried to re-install CS4, but the program would just "hang".  Also, PSE8 automatically put an Icon on my desktop where CS4 did not.  So my guess is an installation problem.  Any Help is appreciated!

    Sounds like you do not have ACR (Adobe camera raw) installed, or it is in wrong folder.  Go the PS help/about plug-in/camera raw.  It should give you a version 5.x.  There can only be one file listed.  If you have none download it in updates I believe.

  • CS2- CS4 upgrade, copy print presets?

    I recently upgraded to IDCS4 from IDCS2. While this may not have been the "preferred" method, I installed CS4,then uninstalled CS2. It seems the CS2 "Print Presets" didn't make the upgrade trip.
    Can anyone suggest where I might locate my CS2 Print Presets, and (ideally) be able to import them into CS4?
    thanks in advance,
    Mike

    In CS2 you would need to go to File>Print Presets>Define and save the file as a .prst, then load that file into CS4.
    I'm afraid that if you haven't saved them from CS2 then they are most likely lost. Perhaps someone knows a sneaky file they reside in?

  • Upgrade from CS2 CS4, can I get CS3?

    Our company is slow in upgrading. Still on CS2. Hopefully we will get CS4 soon. But I need to work on some documents in CS3, somehow... If I get CS4 is there a legal way I can use CS3 to avoid the potential pitfalls of backsaving etc?
    thanks

    I suppose the company is worried that if it sells it to you, you might expect support for the older version. Also, it might take sales away from the latest version. I agree though, it would be nice.
    But then I'm in revolt against the constant pressure to upgrade OS, software, new computers to run it all, for often very little actual benefit. I buy individual apps and upgrade when I see a genuine need, often skipping a version. Amazing how the best thing since sliced bread, according to the hype, can be derided as old fashioned a year or so later - it's like washing powders used to be 'New!!!!!" again every so often.
    But I know that attitude doesn't go down too well round here - shutting up now ;)

  • Installing Indesign CS2 on WIN7 64-Bit

    Hello,
    i tried to install InDesign CS2 Upgrade from the original CD-Rom on a new PC with WIN7 64-bit.
    To activate the installation I used the serial number from the version 1.0 IGP100R7012137-635 from the original register card from InDesign 1.0.
    This combination was used since any years on my old XP-PC and now I want to use it on the new system.
    What happened: InDesign CS2 said during the installation process: this serial no. IGP100R7012137-635 is not an InDesing serial no.
    I contacted Adobe via chat and they said, I need an InDesign CS2 version without need for activation, because Adobe killed the server for this function because of technical reasons.
    My question: from where can I get these InDesign CS2 version without need for activation?
    The serial number from my CS2 InDesign is: Deleted by moderator.
    Who can help or knows an easier solution?
    Thank you in advance for help!
    Renate.

    NEVER post a serial number on a public forum and be aware that CS2 is totally unsupported on Windows 7 and will be even worse on a 64 bit system. Heed the warning on that page:
    Adobe does not support CS2 applications, which were released more than seven years ago. Adobe strongly advises against running unsupported and outdated software.

  • CS2 and XP 64 bit issues

    This is a strange problem I encountered the other day:
    I decided to switch from running 32 bit Windows XP to 64 bit so I could run 4GB of RAM...because I could ;) and all of my programs and drivers installed fine but the only program that has given me trouble is my CS2 Premium(Student Licensing version)
    The program installs fine, goes out and installs updates fine and it activates fine. But, when I try to open it, I get the "Serial number not found" in Acrobat 7 and "Name, Company or Serial Number missing or incorrect" in Photoshop. The serial number is correct of course. I did notice that when trying to install CS2, it says that it can not install into the C:\Program Files (x86)\ directory because it contains invalid characters. So, I choose to install to the regular Program Files directory and it installs fine, but it installs into the Program Files (x86) directory when I just told it to install to Program Files because it didn't like the characters :argh:
    I had looked around and noticed a thread about the registry values being located in the HKLM/Software/Adobe and Adobe Systems section. My computer did not have those for some reason. To try to remedy this, I went as far as loading Virtual PC 2007, installing XP 32 bit and installing CS2 onto that and pulled the registry from that and imported it into my 64 bit Windows XP. Still no dice. The Program Files/Common Files/Adobe and Adobe Systems directories were missing as well, so I copied those over as well. Still nothing.
    Is there some kind of stupid trick to get this CS2 to install correctly onto 64 bit Windows or am I screwed here? I've reinstalled CS2 3 times onto my 64 bit machine and I end up with the same problem every time.

    After many struggles I got a successful install. I recommend the following...
    1) Activate the Vista Administrator account, and log in as the actual administrator. (instructions can be found all over the web)
    2) Create a Vista Restore Point
    3) Copy the CS2 discs to the desktop. Create a folder called CS2 on the desktop. copy the first disc into that folder, then copy the subsequent disks to the "Adobe Creative Suite 2.0" directory in the CS2 directory on your desktop.
    4) Right click on the Setup file in the "CS2\Adobe Creative Suite 2.0\" directory and choose Properties, Compatibility, Run in Compatibility Mode for XP SP2.
    5) Double Click on Setup.
    6) This is important - Install to "c:\programs\adobe" Do NOT install to "progra~2" or "Program Files" or this will cause you much grief later on.
    7) Right click on the Vista Start Button and choose "Explore all Users" Brouse to the various Adobe Program Shortcuts then choose "Properties, Compatibility, Run in Compatibility Mode for XP SP2" for each program shortcut.
    Installing the Macromedia programs was a similar process - especially the need to switch to compatibility mode for the setup file.
    After far too many battles, this seems to be the best way to get the job done... I will update this posting if I find anything more to report.

  • Installation issue CS2 / CS4

    Goal
    I have CS4 Design Premium but want to install CS2 Premium for having GoLive.
    Issue
    When system starts autoplay to install CS2 Premium I can just choose language (only choice finnish) and then I have 2 error codes and the process ends. Error codes are 1) .\Autoplay\LangData\fi_FI\lang.dat, 2) DATA_FILE_VERSION. I also tried to install directly from the folder but there is only setup.exe.manifest which does not run anything.
    Specs
    I'm using Windows XP, CS4 is installed, took Acrobat out, install disc is flawless, I have 2 times left for install, same issue checked with another computer, tried CS4 installation and it started fine, Adobe help does not want to help CS4 customers anymore.

    There are no setup.exe. But there are setup.exe.manifest in the main folder (in the pic). öhöm... I found "Suite installer" from the folder you mentioned above... and it rocks, I have now what I wanted - Golive working with all CS4 programs. By my experience I was just looking for setup.exe, just blind for anything else. And when put CD1 in there poped up Adobe chat and got some more info about my case and I'm very happy to Adobe again.

  • Why no AE CS4 for 32-bit users?

    I am still using AE 7.0 Pro. However, I would like to upgrade to AE CS4.
    CS5 looks great but we don't have a 64-bit system to work on, and we only have anough budget for an upgrade. But CS4 has disappeared from Adobe's web store completely.
    It is still available, or are Adobe holding a 64-bit gun to our head?

    Thanks Todd,
    Installing now.
    Sorry for being thick, but I'm sure that I'm not the first to be in a hurry and not reading things thouroughly enough and looking on the application discs.

  • Adobe CS2 on Windows 64 Bit

    Hi people,
    Please can someone help us, having just called Adobe Tech support they have informed us that they no longer support CS2.  We are trying to install CS2 on Windows XP 64 Bit, but during install the setup does not recognise the characters in the path C:Program Files (x86).
    We tried loading into the following path 'C: Program Files' it loads but once loaded the program will not run.
    Sorry to put such a lame question up but we are struggling and have work to do.
    Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.
